Prologue: The beginning after the end
"I'll grant you this, you are more powerful than I, for now!"
The golden servant attempts to dodge the slash by jumping back but—!
"Go to hell" Shirou quickly spoke, his body is low on mana, his reality marble is already vanishing from the world but his determination and willpower were not.
'My body reacts on its own and closes the gap in an instant
with Kanshou and Bakuya on my hands.
I slash him with all my might.'
'Suddenly a bright light covers the entire battlefield
The light coming from the lake eliminates the hill of swords.
The reality marble was crushed by Gaia, the will of the planet.
it crushes projections and any other foreign object it encounters no matter what.
I'm not an exception to this rule, I knew the reality marble wouldn't last forever. It was either running out of mana or Gaia crushing it.'
'That 's fine.
It doesn't matter anymore the battle has already ended.'
Shirou discards his twin swords knowing that the match has been settled.
Eventually, his eyes adapted to the light, in front of him stands a golden servant, the king of heroes Gilgamesh wounded, his right arm has been cut off and he has a huge slash on his chest.
The servant in front of him shouldn't be alive.
Were his eyes tricking him? No, he remembered that his opponent was not a normal human but a servant.
But Gilgamesh was not an ordinary servant.
The King of Heroes, Gilgamesh.
A servant who carries all treasures in the world, a god-like servant born of a human and a goddess.
If he took the previous battle seriously.
Shirou wouldn't stand a chance even inside his reality marble if Gilgamesh went all-out or used his trump card early.
He would be dead where he stands.
The only reason why Shirou came out victorious was that his opponent underestimated him.
Shirou was well aware of that fact, that's why he needed to act fast.
Shirou attempts to project Kanshou and Bakuya once again but.
His circuits cried out in pain unable to supply any magical energy.
'Damn it!
Why he is still standing
He is not supposed to be alive
I was sure I slashed his chest open'
Shirou decided to take another look at the servant in front of him to confirm his suspicions
His suspicions were quickly confirmed.
The servant was glaring at him; his eyes were filled with bloodlust.
Compared to the bloodlust he sensed from a certain blue lancer there was no comparison, his killing intent was out of this world.
Slowly the servant spoke.
"Running out of mana is such a pathetic end."
Gilgamesh called out his Gate of Babylon preparing a spear to impale the boy in front of him.
"Victory is yours but it won't save your life, Faker"
'I have to dodge it cannot end like this.'
Shirou prepares himself to create nerve circuits but.
Suddenly an explosion of magic expands like a waterfall.
In the center of the explosion, a dark sphere of void radiating curses materializes under the servants' missing limb.
Gilgamesh looks down at his body in astonishment.
…His body is being swallowed.
The golden Servant is swallowed by the void appearing on his body.
"What?!"
The servant said in shock as the black sphere rose and grew larger.
"What are you doing? How dare you drag me in you lich WAIT—!"
The sphere grew larger now covering almost the entirety of the servant's body.
"The hole, the Grail". Shirou gazed at the void in disbelief.
Suddenly a chain materializes from the hole grabbing his arm pulling him towards the void.
'A chain on my left arm.
I react in time and avoid being dragged in.
He is no longer holding back, the chain he just used is called "Enkidu" a noble phantasm that held Heracles'.
"That sick abomination doesn't realize that a fellow servant cant be made its core."
"Crap! It's trying to pull me in with you", Shirou quickly positioned himself to resist.
"You fool, I will not die like this today, stay where you are mongrel at least until I can get back over to you."
'I try to resist but I can't get this chain off of me.
I'll be swallowed into that void along with him.
Even if I hold my ground, he'll pull himself out.
It means I'm going to die either way.'
'No, I will survive.'
"Fat chance, it ends now even if it costs me my arm", Gilgamesh smirks at him.
'Why is he smiling?'
"Too bad Faker I no longer require you!"
He summons another portal from his Gate of Babylon and launches it towards a tree and starts enveloping himself with the chain.
'Crap he launched the chain towards the tree!
He is pulling me in while he is slowly pulling himself out!'
"Damn it—!"
Suddenly the tree where the chain was holding onto was cut in half and the chain went back to the golden servant.
Gilgamesh was in shock.
A familiar voice Emiya Shirou never expected to hear again spoke.
"Move you fool!", The voice spoke from above.
'Archer?!
How the hell is he alive'
The red archer materializes on the roof.
"Archer!"
"I said move!"
The red knight materializes a bow and a single arrow and aims towards Gilgamesh's head, Emiya Shirou moves to the right to avoid the arrow but—.
Suddenly the void grows even larger trying to pull everyone in, the knight loses his concentration and misses the shot.
'Crap not like this.
I don't want to die like this.'
'I attempt to turn on my magic circuits but my body refuses to cooperate.
Crap! I attempt to create nerve circuits once more but blood comes out of my mouth.
My body refuses to move the pain from overusing my circuits and the drawback of creating nerve circuits.
Archer is at his limit too he shouldn't exist anymore but—.
I approach him with all of my willpower.
He stretches his hand.'
'I didn't hesitate and I took his hand.'
'We are going to survive this.'
The void quickly expands, the force from the explosion it's too great even Gilgamesh it's no longer visible but the chain stood still.
'I hold archer's hand with all of my strength
He is struggling just to stand still holding a pillar'.
The knight who always thinks a step ahead has no counter for this.
"Damn it all!" Archer said worried for the boy's safety.
The chain on Emiya Shirou's left arm is dragging him in
Meanwhile, on Emiya Shirou's right arm, Archer holds his past self.
It's a battle of willpower and determination
Only one would win at the end and they both knew that very well.
The windows and doors from Ryuudou Temple shattered like paper unable to withstand wind pressure they were never meant to sustain.
The void started shrinking and expanding like a heart, the "heartbeats" affecting the wind currents.
As abruptly as it started it suddenly stopped, the black sphere of death stood still.
The face of a golden servant face is seen escaping the void and quickly grabbing a pillar and freeing Shirou's left arm, but before anyone could react, he spoke.
"Don't you dare to try using me as a vessel."
The world stopped.
An abomination made its presence known.
Its body looks like it is made from crimson flesh attempting to simulate a human form
Its facial features were incomplete by dark spots where the eyes and mouth were supposed to be.
Its hands were pitch black with several of its fingers missing.
Its body was covered in pitch-black tattoos.
The lower part of its body was missing, its torso was incomplete, "organs" and "bones" could be seen inside of it.
It looks more like a corpse rather than a human.
An abomination that should not exist.
The flesh drops into the ground crawling its way towards Shirou.
Shirou stepped back and looked away.
'Is that the grail true form?
I crawled away from the flesh.
Just looking at it makes me dizzy and makes me want to throw up.'
'—Still, I have to act.
Archer is in no condition to take on both of them, it's a miracle he is still in this world after all.'
'Who knows what that thing is capable of'
But before Shirou could think what to do, the golden servant spoke.
"Disappear", Gilgamesh opens a portal and launches a spear towards the crimson flesh without hesitation.
The beast of flesh screams in pain.
"hmph, What a disappointment you are not even worthy to be touched by my treasuries without the control and mana from the grail you are worthless."
"Pathetic to believe the being who managed to take so many lives in the previous war would be a weak parasite".
'Previous war?'
The monstrosity softly spoke.
"Die, Die, Die"
"Huh, what did you say? you dirty beast!".
The monstrosity smiles at the golden servant with malice.
"Die!" The monstrosity yells at the bottom of its lungs.
The black sphere reactivates itself growing much larger than before.
The force from the wind is so great that the structure of Ryuudou Temple starts to collapse and gets absorbed into the void.
The monstrosity laughs and falls into the dark void once again.
"Don't even think about it you lich!" Gilgamesh opens the gate once again and envelopes himself with the pillar certain red archer was holding"
'Crap!'
'I attempt to move my legs but my body no longer responds.
Just maintaining my consciousness it's taking everything from my willpower just to stay awake.
The debris from Ryuudou Temple hits my body in every direction
I fall to the ground unable to withstand the constant rain of debris
My senses are slowly failing me.'
'Damn it all...
I dropped my guard and now I'm going to die in vain.
I'm sorry Rin, fuji-nee, Saber, dad, everyone, I failed.'
…
'I'm being dragged in and there's nothing I can do
My mind is slowly going blank
I slowly try closing my eyes, hopefully, it won't be painful
but—'
'Who is holding my hand?'
'I open my eyes for the final time to see the person holding my hand.'
In front of Shirou, a familiar person holds his hand.
'Archer.
He projected a knife and stabbed it into the ground.
but it's not enough, the knife is an incomplete projection'
'It's not going to last the weight of both of us.'
'The knife snaps—Archer and I fall into the grail to meet our end.'
The knight and boy cross the barrier between this world and the grail never to be seen again.
The golden servant starts to laugh.
"HAHAHA", Suddenly like if it was a miracle or karma itself the pillar where the chain resides cracks.
Crack
"What the h—" The golden servant attempts to grab into anything but it's too late, the entire structure of Ryuudou Temple has collapsed already.
"No, No, No, Wait!"
For the first and maybe the last time in his second life Gilgamesh the King of Heroes tasted despair
The king of heroes was devoured by the darkness of the void.
The void slowly shrinks and disappears leaving nothing behind but a burning memory and the remains of a battle without a winner.
The magical energy inside the grail exploded outward ripping through everything in its vicinity. The purpose of the Grail was to make a path to Akasha also known as the root using the magical energy of seven servants plus the Grail's own.
The amount of magical energy was enough to reach Akasha.
However, things were about to change.
'Darkness
I feel nothing.
It's this death?' Emiya Shirou asks himself.
'No, I can still think, which means I'm alive'.'
'I slowly open one eye.'
'I'm floating in darkness; I can't see or feel anything around me. The air in my lungs is slowly being pulled out.'
'My body feels warm, my circuits and my body
I feel tired like I just did twenty marathons.'
'I see a light, like a point on a map. I try to get myself closer to it. forcing my oxygen-deprived body to swim towards the light.
My senses are slowly kicking in as well'
'I fall into the light, gravity suddenly takes a hold of me and I plummet onto a hard ground, air filling up my lungs.'
'The light around me is so bright compared to the inky darkness, I can barely see anything, almost like a flashbang.'
'I see a silhouette.'
"Who are you?" Shirou asks the mysterious silhouette in front of him
"Huh?" A masculine voice says
'I close and open my eyes once more
It's daytime
I start looking at my surroundings...
This place is not Ryuudou Temple or Fuyuki
It looks like some kind of European style architecture.'
In the background, human-like humanoids and humans are walking around together.
'Are these what they call Phantasmal Species?'
'The mana in the atmosphere is also dense'
'Just where the hell am I...?'.
"Hey, are you okay?", The mysterious masculine voice concerned asked Shirou
Shirou looks in the direction of the voice, the silhouette clears itself revealing a young boy.
Shirou looks at the mysterious boy in front of him.
He is wearing a black-white tracksuit with orange lines on the shoulders.
His clothing is out of place.
He is carrying a plastic bag filled with groceries that you can buy in any convenience store or supermarket.
Shirou was extremely confused.
'Was this guy also affected by the grail?'
"Yes, I am…" Shirou replies to the mysterious boy.
"But who are you?"
The boy in front of him smiled.
"My name is Natsuki Subaru" The boy proudly proclaimed his name.
A few minutes ago, in another time
Subaru is in his room reading manga when suddenly, "Hey Subaru can you do me a favor and buy some groceries"
"Sure…"
"Perfect."
"You can buy something for yourself once you get there, just make sure you can afford it."
"Oh, and don't forget you can only eat what you buy after we eat dinner." Naoko smiles at Subaru.
"Sigh, yeah I know Mom, I'll be back in a few minutes."
"Hey son, come here for a second" Kenichi grabs Subaru's shoulder.
"Yeah?"
"Shh. Can I ask you a favor?"
"Sure, Dad what do you need?" Kenichi looks around like if he was hiding from someone
"Buy me a piece of chocolate. I need it for my morning coffee."
"Sure…?"
"You see your Mother has been keeping me on a strict diet for a while. Did you notice how I haven't eaten a single piece of dairy products for a week?"
"Now thinking about it, you are right we haven't eaten a single piece of meat this week"
"Correct, you see she has been following a tutorial from ██████, she wants us to keep us healthy but I can't handle this anymore."
"If you buy it for me, I won't wake you up tomorrow."
"Make it 1 week and we have a deal."
"3 Days."
"Deal".
[YES! finally, I'll be able to sleep for a while.
Come on think, I'll need somewhere to hide it from Mom but where?]
Subaru goes into his room and opens his closet.
[Perfect]
Subaru puts on his black and yellow tracksuit.
He grabs his wallet and prepares to leave.
Kenichi walks in.
"Hey, Son can we talk for a second?"
"Sure, you want to negotiate for more chocolate?"
His expression changes from lively look to concerned.
"I wanted to talk about something important" Kenichi closes the door behind them
"It's about scho—"
"Dad we talked about this already I don't want to go to school, its pointle—"
He quickly gets interrupted by his parent
"Pointless"
"I know, you have been telling us the same excuse over and over for years"
"However this time it's going to be different, it's a new school a new leaf"
[It 's pointless…]
"and if that doesn't work there's always tomorrow"
"Stop…"
Subaru hits the wall in frustration
"It won't work"
"I have tried multiple times before it just won't work"
Naoko walks in.
"What's going on?"
Kenichi shows Naoko a tiny gesture.
"I see"
"Subaru, we have registered you to a school 10 minutes away from here"
"I know what are you thinking but you have to put yourself in our shoes"
"We have been really worried about you, it's been an entire year since you quit school, as your parents we decided to make a choice"

"Resign me"
"Subaru we did this because of you, whatever you dislike it or not"
"Its for your own good"
"You need to move on, leave it on the past"
"Hey son look at the bright side at least I won't wake you up once you go to school and that's a promise"
Naoko looks at Kenichi and does another gesture.
"Oh right.."
"Don't worry son everything it's going to be alright"
"School starts in 2 weeks from now, giving you and us enough time to prepare"
"But I don't want to go…"
"Oh Subaru it's going to be alright"
Naoko and Kenichi attempt to hug Subaru.
Subaru dodges the hug, leaves the room, and hides in the bathroom
[I don't want to go...
Sigh, Could I have prevented this?
Can I talk my way out of this?]

"Subaru, are you feeling a bit better?t" Naoko tries to console Subaru
"When you feel ready to talk about it, let's talk okay?"
"I know this is hard for you but we will do our best to support you"
"Hey son"
"Once you are feeling alright let's go play baseball just like the old days if you win, I won't bother you during the 15 days"

But nobody answered

I made a mistake on hiding here

Subaru finally leaves the bathroom.

"Sit down, food is ready"

Subaru and his family start to eat.
The atmosphere is heavy.
Subaru is hiding his emotions in a desperate attempt to avoid going to school.
Naoko is trying to console her son.
Kenichi is trying to reconnect with his son.
No words were spoken during the entire dinner.
"I'm going to the convenience store"
"Don't forget your phone" Natsuki points at the table in the kitchen.
"Got it".
"Take Care" Natsuki smiles at Subaru like she was waiting for his response.
But no response came.
Subaru looks back at his mother and leaves.
Subaru leaves his house and starts walking towards the convenience store.
[I wish I could just disappear
it's too late to go back to school
I'm just gonna fail and disappoint everyone like I always do.
Sigh
I'm a failure, a parasite, just another shut-in-neet in the world.
Still
Should I give school another chance?]
3 minutes later
Subaru enters the store.
He walks around looking for what he wants to buy.
Subaru finds a manga and gets distracted.
"I see where this is going, this where they suck you in".
[Oh wait, I forgot I need to buy some groceries and chocolate for Dad.]
A couple is seen walking down the street.
[Sigh]
Subaru walks away and goes back to shopping.
"Hmm, Nah maybe this one instead."
[I should be able to afford the ramen, the chips, dad's chocolate, and the groceries mom wanted]
Subaru heads to the checkout counter.
"That will be 363 yen."
[Huh, I was able to afford it.]
"Huh, a grooved-edge ten."
Subaru pays for his stuff and leaves the store.
A car passes down the street.
For a second space, itself begins to warp.
[Sigh]
Subaru looks at both sides of the road checking if there are no cars in the distance.
"That's what I get for holing in my room all day, gaming."
"Guess my eyes are tired."
Suddenly a bright light emerges from the background blinding Subaru.
[Ah, What the hell was that light?]
His vision begins to clear.
It's no longer nighttime.
The sound of a silent street is replaced by people talking and walking.
In the background, a bunch of demi-humans and humans are walking down in what appears to be a market.
He closes and opens his eyes again.
[Am I hallucinating?
I start looking around
Its daytime, it was nighttime just a moment ago
I can hear the footsteps of the people walking around me]
A bell is heard in the background.
"What's going on?"
"I'd say I was dreaming, but this is obviously really happening."
Subaru starts looking around in front of him. There's a wounded orange-haired boy, his shirt and pants are ripped, the shirt it's missing a major section of the right side of the arm, the pants are missing a major section of the left leg as well.
[What the hell?]
Before Subaru could answer a question to the mysterious in front of him, the boy spoke.
"Who are you?"
"Huh?"
[I stare at him
the guy in front of me is confused and wounded
Was he also dragged to this world as well?
But why is he badly wounded?
…
I need to do something]
Subaru grabs and shakes the mysterious boy's shoulder and asks.
"Are you okay?"
[Huh for some reason he looks more relaxed,
Was he also having a panic attack?
I don't blame him]
"Yes, I am…" The mysterious boy replies
"But who are you?"
[This is my chance]
"My name is Natsuki Subaru" Subaru proudly proclaims his name.

Simple it doesn't make any sense at all, Satella gave Subaru RbD because she loves him.
It makes no sense getting rid of Subaru to replace him with another random anime protagonist.
Plus if Shirou had RbD we would get another Greed IF.
Having the two of them there makes more sense.

Indeed he is, rewatch re:zero arc 1 and see it yourself.
He was brave and prideful at the start because he saw himself as an average isekai protagonist then reality hit him like a truck.

The concept of x character has y character personality/power/ideals is overused and I really don't like it since its OOC.

Not so Funny Facts
Subaru had an argument with his parents about going to school before getting sent to Lugnica, this is my interpretation of events that happened during the argument.
He never said goodbye to his parents.
He didn't reply to her mother because if he did, she would have told him to wash the dishes.
In canon there was no chocolate promise. This is something I added to make Subaru suffer more.
Yes the chocolate promise is going to be used in the future.
Subaru was sent to Lugnica in 2013.
Shirou was sent to Lugnica in 2006.
Yeah it's going to be interesting seeing Shirou not get certain references from Subaru time.
Early 2005s internet was weird.
(This is my first fic i had to edit this thing like 7 times to fix grammar issues and other issues and oh boy it when i always think it was ready to be posted suddenly someone pointed out an error and i had to start re-visiting the doc all over again)
