I made this when I was drunk and thought "you know what? I'll just do this myself"

running through the woods was just another day for me.

using everything around me to my advantage was just my training.

spending days at a time away from my home in Menagerie was just preparing me for when I actually left.

hanging out with friends, my fellow Faunus, was just me learning their ability's and worth in combat situations.

despite the fact I can almost past as human my long green hair always felt like it's putting target on me.

my snake traits, my green eyes and reflexes, allow me to dodge, and counter faster than most humans and Faunus.

my daggers that I forged can turn into pistols

my semblance can sense the heat of living beings. the Grimm appear as dark shadows around everything else.

I can be anywhere else right now. I can take the hunter exam and get my license without any problems. I can finally get whatever job i want and live as comfortably as i want.

so why am I protecting this random human village outside of the Vale walls?

these thoughts raced through Selena, the snake Faunus', mind as she killed what had to be her twentieth Beowulf of the night. she started wondering why the Grimm seemed more active then usual. sure they would attack settlements outside the kingdoms, they were easy targets but tonight seemed to be different. a title wave of minor Grimm, Beowulfs, Boartusks, and a few Nevermores, just suddenly showed up without the necessary fear and panic that would normally attract this many Grimm.

suddenly she spotted a boartusk rolling towards her. she cursed herself for getting distracted. she only had enough time to turn and maybe counter. in that instant a fellow Faunus had attacked the rolling boartusk from the side, with what she swore was a rake but it had transformed into a rifle. both used the boartusks disorientation to their advantage and killed it with ease.

the new Faunus turned toward her, his pig nose now noticeable in the moon and village light.

"oh, hello," the pig Faunus extended his hand in greeting "good to finally know I'm not the only one here fighting."

Selena wasn't to proud of a warrior to realize, had he not shown up she might have been unceremoniously taken out of this world. she also knew she had a stronger chance of escaping this night with help and shook hands with the pig Faunus "thanks for the timely assist mr...?"

"hey it was no problem." the pig Faunus replied with a smile on his face "and just call me Patrick, no need of the 'mr.' or even just 'Pigsy' if you want"

"ok...Patrick, my name is Selena, thank you for" at that moment a horrible inhuman/infaunus screech was heard for miles around and it was coming from above. Selena looked up and saw only a large Dark Shadow flying above, and it was heading straight for Vale. its screech and whatever was falling from it was attracting Grimm towards the village center where a handful of other fighters were keeping the monsters from attacking the main building.

Selena used her Faunus trait, she could see that the villagers were all in the main building. those idiots. that was like a dinner bell for the Grimm, anyone trying to defend just one building would get overwhelmed by sheer numbers. she could also see two individuals fighting off the sea of inky blackness.

she looked at her new companion "are you still ready to fight?"

Patrick replied with what she could presume to be a genuine smile "are you kidding? i can do this all night"

despite everything going on around them she almost cracked a smile herself " I hope so, because we're in for a long night"

with that, both of them charged into battle once again to assist the two brave souls that challenge the darkness before them.

this night will be one to remember
