Author's Note - I know I'm supposed to work on Chapter 4 of Crossing the Lines and I promise you, I am, I'll post it in a couple of days I hope, but I wanted to do this short one-shot in the honor of... SLEXIE REUNION. BECAUSE OUR BABIES ARE BACK PEOPLE.
Although I haven't watched Greys after season 10, the last episode was just beautiful... Slexie being happy and together is everything.
I'm not a native English speaker, so my grammar and spelling may not always be correct, but I try my best...

Dear Lord, when I get to heaven
Please let me bring my man
When he comes tell me that You'll let him in
Father, tell me if you can
All that grace, all that body
All that face, makes me wanna party
He's my sun, he makes me shine like diamonds
Young and Beautiful - Lana Del Rey
"I know you want to go back." Mark exclaimed to Meredith, "So why are you hesitating? What are you afraid of?"
Meredith bower her head down and looked at the sand. She was afraid. So much… of a lot of things. Some simpler than the others. But still scary. Still unknown. There were so many things she couldn't understand, so many things she couldn't explain. But one thing, she did know.
Being there, on the beach with the people she lost felt good. It felt... perfect. It felt like her safe place. A place where no one could hurt her anymore. A place she would choose to spend the eternity.
"I saw Derek." she finally admitted, "I know he's here. And if I stay now, I know he'll be here with me… Maybe he's here now, because I'm supposed to join him." she told Mark as he sat down on the sand beside her. A wave after wave, glistening sea was drenching the sand, as well as their feet.
"He'll wait for you wherever you come back. You'll find him... When it's your time. Trust me. He'll be here... waiting for you."
"You sound so sure..." Meredith heavily sighed. She felt slightly relieved, but still concerned, "Was Lexie here waiting for you? Did you find her as soon as you died?" She wanted to be sure. She needed to.
"No." Mark replied, and by the confused and suddenly frightened look on her face, he explained smiling, "She was the one who found me."
"Okay, that does make sense." Meredith breathed out and chuckled, the worried look on her face disappearing.
"And I wasn't even here."
"What do you mean?"
"I remember..." Mark started, deeply inhaling, "I remember the hospital, I remember doctors, I remember the terrible ache in my lungs, in my chest..." he told her, grabbing one small grey rock near them and throwing it into the water.
The rock fell into the water with a loud plop, but that didn't manage to hide the shakiness of his voice from Meredith. "Because of Lexie?"
"Because of Lexie." he affirmed. "I saw her face. Back then. That was actually what I remember the clearest. That was what I saw every time I would close my eyes." Mark explained, his lips curving into a smile. And now I get to see that face all the time... his smile was saying. I get to touch it, to kiss it...
"But that ache was also because..." he continued, throwing another rock into the water, "...because I had that feeling... feeling like I was about to die. And I didn't want to give anyone false hope that I won't. And then, the next thing I remember is waking up."
"Here?" she asked, throwing one rock into the water herself. She woke up here... she opened her eyes and saw the beautiful blue sky, and everything she could hear were gasping waves. She felt like she was at peace.
"No." Mark retorted again and earned another confusing look from her. "I didn't wake up here. I woke up in a bed. For a second I thought it was all a bad dream or something." he chuckled, "But then I looked through the window and there were no people on the streets. And it was so... utterly quiet. Then I figured I wasn't even in my apartment. I was in my old the hotel room. And I was completely lost, completely torn apart... I didn't know what I'm supposed to do, I didn't know what was the right thing to do..."
Meredith carefully listed to him, absorbing every single one of his words and then remembered, no matter how peaceful she felt when she opened her eyes and saw the beach, she felt lost too. Until she saw Derek. Until she heard his voice again. "Yeah, I felt like that when I came here as well." she told him, "But then..."
"But then you saw Derek."
"Yeah... And I wasn't lost anymore."
"Exactly." Mark smiled, figuring she almost got the point "I was in the hotel room. Then I heard a knock on the door. And I wasn't lost anymore... or torn apart."
"Because when you opened the door... you saw Lexie." Meredith finished his story, in the only way she knew it could be finished. Like nothing changed. In life or death. She knew what kind of man Mark was before Lexie knocked on his door. Lost and torn apart.
"Yeah... I saw Lexie. She was at the door, and she had that beautiful smile on her face... and she waited for me. The same way Derek will wait for you." It was something in his words, some kind of security and comfort, that actually made her believe him.
"But now Lexie and I are here. Because of you. Because..."
"Because you shouldn't be. You shouldn't be here, Mer." It was Lexie who cut him off. Both, Mark and Meredith turned their heads and smiled at her as she sat down on the sand as well. "Not yet."
…
The vibrant display of flowers covered the ground around them. Most of them yellow, orange, light blue and purple, their bright and beautiful colors could literally bring a sense of remedy and calmness to the eyes. The dreamy sea was gently caressing the sand they had sat on until a few minutes ago.
"You think she'll figure it out? How to wake up?" Lexie asked Mark, as they watched Meredith casually stroll over the sand. Probably without knowing where she was going, or what was waiting for her. Lexie was still worried, still concerned, still fearful about Meredith. She still couldn't understand.
"She will. She always does." Mark assured her, pulling her hair aside and pressing a light kiss on her cheek. They were sitting among the flowers, as the sweet smell of the blossoms filled the air. Lexie was tucked in between his arms, her back leaning against Mark's chest. She was calmly sitting between his legs, as his hands were tightly holding her around the waist.
"You're not saying that only to make me feel better?" she wondered, her fingers softly caressing the smooth skin of his forearms. She closed her eyes, waiting for his answer.
Mark could see her skin glowing under the sunlight... as well as her light pink cheeks, long eyelashes and warm lips. He could swear she was more beautiful every day.
It was like she could literally feel him chuckle into her hair, before finally answering, "Nope. I'm doing this to make you feel better."
Mark put his palm gently onto her cheek, and Lexie turned her head, facing him. She gazed into his eyes for a second, the only thing she knew was bluer than the sea in front of them, before she felt his soft lips against hers and closed her eyes again. Like in a dream. Like in a movie. Like in a heaven. And she knew, there was no place she would rather be, no arms she would rather want to hold her so close and tight, no lips she would rather kiss for eternity...
She wished for all of this, a long time ago, without even knowing it... She wished for him to be the one she ends up with. Anywhere. Everywhere. In any aspect of reality or non-reality. And it was him.
Sometimes, Lexie liked to think about their life in a bunch of different parallel universes, every time with a different story, at the different places, under different circumstances... She was sure all of those words existed. Sometimes she would even tell Mark about them. And he always enjoyed listening. He believed in them too.
I love you... Those were the words he whispered between the kisses. He told her that a thousand times before. A million times. And those words would still, after all the time that had passed, made her feel like she was on the top of the world. Cause she was there. With him. They were together, and even after everything that happened, they were still beautiful. More beautiful than ever.
"I love you." she whispered back, and her lips found his again. One of her arms encircled his neck, holding him close.
Until the next life.
…know that we have met before, and that we will meet again. I will find my way to you in the next life, and every life after that. - Mia Hollow
Always happy to hear your thoughts...
That episode really gave me all the closure I needed after season 8 finale, although my heart still lives in all the worlds where they're spending a whole happy life together with two or three kids and all the people they love...
