Azula x Suki
It was late and the Boiling Rock did not get cooler at night. Suki was trying to sleep on the wrong side to no avail. The cell bed was as uncomfortable as ever but she had gotten used to that. She was trying to sleep on her wrong side.
A clang of a door came from outside. It wasn't shift change time so that was odd. The boiling rock had become so predictable even in the couple of weeks she had been there. But she heard footsteps and that made her heart race with hope.
'No it won't happen tonight.' she reminded herself. But the steps were lighter than normal and they stopped outside her cell door. She sat up and looked at the crude metal. It was dark, she could barely see its outline. She heard the jingling of a key, the clack of the lock, and the Kyoshi Warrior swung her legs around to be sitting on her bed, heart starting to race.
The light from the outside revealed a short cloaked figure as they hurriedly came inside and Suki felt herself smile even though it hurt.
"It's me." the velvet voice purred, closing the door again.
"Azula." Suki sighed happily not holding back as she jumped to her feet and launched herself into the princess's suddenly wide arms. She leaned her head over the short girl's left shoulder breathing deep the clean perfumes. So much better than the stale prison air. She let her hands feel the silken shirt. So much better than her rough uniform. The firebenders hot breath tickled her neck and she wondered what the princess thought of her sorry state.
Azula didn't seem to notice though. All she did was hold her tight and move to kiss the Kyoshi Warrior's right cheek. She pressed hard but recoiled when Suki let out a pained hiss.
The fire bender pulled away.
"What's wrong." It was spoken as an order not a question
"It's nothing."
"Liar."
"Azula."
A blink of blue flashed as Azula lit a few candles set into the wall. Normally a prisoner would get in trouble for having lights on so late but no guard probably wished for death tonight to interrupt them.
The lights were on and Suki watched Azula scowl. The princess took a step and looked at the right side of Suki's face. The lit candles flared blue.
Suki's skin was purple. Suki's skin was yellow. Suki's skin was red. From her ear down to her chin, a composition of colors were sprayed and her right eye was still nearly swollen shut.
"Who did this to you," Azual growled and the candles blazed.
"Azula," Suki whined, she had been thinking about it a lot.
"Don't Azula me. Who did this to you?!" The firebenders fists were balled and she stared only at the wound.
"I don't want to talk about it ok?" Suki tried to turn away and take a few steps. It still hurt. She could still feel how swollen it was. She knew it would take time to heal. But Azula grabbed her hand. It wasn't forceful. It was quick but Azula rubbed her thumb over the back of the skin.
"Suki doesn't turn away from me. Who did this to you?" Azula tried to be more gentle her anger turning to concern.
Suki liked the anger better. She tore her hand away making Azula recoil.
"You did!" Suki hissed. Azula was taken aback.
"I don't-"
"You captured me." Suki cut her off. "You put me in chains, you sent me here!" Suki thought about their night on the beach on Ember Island. How the whole time there they got to pretend they were normal people. That what was between then was normal.
Azula stammered for words. "I told you this is temporary just until after black sun. Then you will-"
"What Azula? Go back to the cell at the palace to be let out like a pet whenever it's not inconvenient for you? And until that great future, I'm stuck here while YOU HURT AND KILL MY FRIENDS." She was shouting and she struck out and punched the wall in front of her. It hurt. It hurt a lot. It hurt like the other times she punched the wall.
The only sound for the next minute was Sukis heavy breathing.
"Or they kill me," Azula said matter of factly. This wasn't the first time they had this talk. This talk about how this could end. How unlikely it was going to end happily. It hadn't stopped them yet.
Azula walked to Suki's good side and she saw the Kyoshi Warrior look at her.
"No matter what the war is almost over. Things will be different after black sun. I will come back here and have your warriors brought back to Kyoshi Island and we... will talk." Suki turned fully to her surprised.
"If," Azula continued. "You tell me who hurt you."
Suki smiled. It was always a fight between them, a good competition. It was what she loved about the fire bender.
"A guard was beating on a prisoner. I stepped in and missed another one who had a club."
Azula went to reach out again but held back. Suki gave a small smile and reached out to take Azula's hand and brought it up to place it on her good side. Like always the firebender was warm and she could feel the mix of smooth skin and earned calluses. She moved into the familiar touch as Azula got closer.
"What hurt worse? The club or failing to doge it?" Azula asked with a smile.
Suki laughed lightly. "The bruise will heal in a couple of weeks but my pride will take longer."
"You poor thing." her smile faded as their bodies were almost touching. She could hear Sukis' breath and see her chest rise and fall in the moments of silence as they enjoyed just being near each other.
"This will be different when the wars over," Azula stated. Suki smiled and pulled away, she walked toward her bunk and pulled Azula along.
"Of course it will." Suki relented sitting down with her back against the wall.
"You don't believe me?" Azula sat on Sukis good side and leaned against her,
"Just being prepared. I don't intend to stay here for a moment longer than I have to." The Kyoshi Warrior put her arm around the princess pulling her close.
"I understand." Azula didn't lie. "I know I would hate to be captive or in chains."
Suki kissed the shorter girl's forehead. "Would you chase after me if I escaped tomorrow?"
"No matter where you go." Azula didn't hesitate. "What's that stupid thing Tylee said? I'd hate to see you go but I would love to watch you leave."
Suki let out a big laugh but winced when it made her face hurt. "That's...ok yeah one way to put it."
"But don't escape tomorrow. I would get blamed for it." Azula offered making Suki smirk. "Wait until after the black sun then I will be sure it's me that will come after you."
Suki sighed dramatically. "Oh fine, I guess I could harass the guards a little longer."
Azula pulled away making Suki confused but the firbender was soon in front of her and then climbing onto her lap, straddling her. Her face now higher, she brought one hand to hold Sukis' good cheek. While the other lightly held her hurt one. She leaned her face close. Suki's heart raced as Azula was on top of her and she could feel her heart beating almost as fast as hers.
"I mean it. Swear you won't escape until I can order your release. I can figure this out. You are...you matter to me and I don't want to lose you if a good plan can prevent it."
Sukis face hurt. She was in a prison on an uncomfortable bed. But she loved this girl as she wrapped her arms around the fire bender. Despite that, her friends could be in danger so she had to escape. Though if Azula's plan worked out she could be released anyway. Those plans could change though. She didn't know what to do. She didn't want to give Azula a firm answer.
Instead, she closed the distance with the girl's lips. Azula didn't resist or question and only leaned into it. In moments their tongues met and Sukis' hands started to roam over Azulas's back pulling tighter. She would enjoy this for as long as it lasted.
