Izuku's POV

This wasn't the first time Eraserhead had gotten him out of a tight spot. It wasnt even the first time the man had found him bleeding and in need of stitches. Izuku wasnt sure what made this time special but it was. And Eraser was pissed.

Honestly Izuku didnt understand what the hero was so angry about. All it was, was a dislocated shoulder and a few second degree burns. He had received worse annoying Endeavour last week. His sweatshirt took the brunt of the damage.

Though now that Izuku thought about it though Eraser hadn't seen him last week. More often than not Izuku could escape even if he was injured. It was once in a blue moon that he needed to rely on help from a hero or fellow vigilante. Most of the time the help was unsolicited but welcome.

His mind went straight to Noise who had rescued him from Endeavour last week. The man's quirk was the most interesting Izuku had ever seen. The ability to materialize his thoughts and comment his thoughts to others. The immense concentration it must take for it to work effectively.

It was the use of his quirk that had allowed Izuku as Kage the vigilante to escape. Kage and Noise occasionally shared the same patrol. Mere luck of the draw had saved Izuku that night.

Currently he was sitting in Eraserhead's apartment. He had stripped down to his under gear, shorts a tshirt with his mask still in place. Every hero, villain, and civilian knew the mask. The black and green fox mask had been his trademark since he debuted two years prior.

His name Kage had come from his ability to disappear into the shadows. It annoyed heroes and police alike. Eraserhead had been the first to draw Izuku in. Curiosity had gotten the better of him when he found the hero on one of his roofs. There were a handful he chose carefully that allowed him to overlook the city. One night Eraser had appeared on a roof and it started an uneasy alliance.

"If you won't take care of yourself, I will," came Eraser's voice shaking him from his thoughts.

Izuku snorted the sound distorted by his voice changer, "You have been trying to catch me for over a year and a half now. If you were able to bring me in you would have already done so."

There was a flash of irritation across the man's face. His hand strayed across one of the more sensitive burns. This caused Izuku to flinch and hiss with pain.

Eraser snapped, "This is why you shouldn't patrol by yourself. What would you have done if I hadn't shown up?"

"I would have escaped," snapped back Izuku, "I always do."

Eraser sighed as he looked up, "Kage you are not invincible. I'm trying to help you."

"I dont need your or anyone else's help! I'm doing just fine on my own!"

This had Izuku on his feet. Anger and pain filled every fiber of his being. He couldn't trust anyone to save him. A quirkless Deku like him wasnt worth saving.

Eraser was on his feet a moment later. His dark eyes held pain and hurt in them. Izuku made to escape out the window leaving behind his gear was difficult. It could be replaced but not easily. Then he was stopped by Eraser. Not physically but by his words.

Eraser tried to soothe, "Kage wait," Izuku didn't turn away from the window but neither did he try to continue, "I just want to help you. To take care of you."

Izuku snarled his volume rising as he swung around to face the hero, "I can take care of myself! I don't need anyone much less an adult!"

His harsh breathing was causing sharp pains in his dislocated. Coming here was a mistake. He should have trusted his instincts instead of letting himself become complacent.

That was a lie. He was barely scraping by but he was too afraid to ask for help. Afraid that when those who chased him found out he was quirkless they would abandon him. Just like everyone else.

"Can you really, though?" softly questioned Eraser, "I've known you for almost two years, Kage. In that time you have lost significant amount of wait. The amount of injuries you have received are more than most pro heroes. In two years. You are just a kid. You cant take care of yourself."

Izuku flinched. He got more injuries from school than he did on patrol. What he's recieved is nothing compared to what he recieved from Bakugo.

Softly he said, "Most of the injuries I've received is nothing. I've received worse from bullies at school. Someone like me isnt worth the protection of adults."

"That's not true," came the alarmed near shout of Eraserhead, "You deserve the same protection as everyone else. Please let me help you."

Eraserhead stepped close to him his hand raised towards his uninjured shoulder. There was a gentleness in his eyes. Izuku wanted to believe in him with every fiber of his being.

Despite being a vigilante and Eraserhead being a hero the man tried to look after him. Helping him when he was injured was just part of it. Other times he would chase Izuku so that other heroes would leave him be. At other times he would bring Izuku food. It wasnt much but it was better than anything had eaten since he ran away.

Izuku questioned softly his green eyes trying to find any deceit in the dark eyes, "Why should I trust you?"

"I've never lied to you," Eraser's eyes pleaded with Izuku to believe him, "I want to take care of you."

Izuku couldnt find any lies or deceit in that gaze. Despite every instinct screaming at him not to do it he said, "Okay."

Aizawa's POV

This was not how he expected the last month to go. It started one night his regular patrol had started out normal until he got interrupted by Noise. Noise was the most elusive vigilante in Japan with Kage at a close second. Few heroes had ever spoken with him. No one had actually had ever seen him.

Per his M.O. Noise had contact him through some telepathic link alerting him that Kage was in trouble. Again. Kage had a knack for finding himself in the strangest of situations. Shouta would know. He was usually the one who got him out of the situations.

When he found Kage that evening he had been beyond angry at the vigilante. The kid, he wasnt stupid he knew Kage was a kid, had gone after trigger dealers alone. One of whom had a fire quirk and nearly burned the kid to a crisp.

Shouta was 90% sure the only reason Kage didnt run when they were brought down was because of his shoulder. Why was this kid so reckless? Didnt he realize that Shouta and Tsukauchi cared about him?!

Things became a lot clearer when they got to his apartment. Incoherent mumblings came through the voice changer. The kid was obviously nervous about being here. It showed when Shouta accidentally vented some of his frustration.

It turned out that frustration had been what was needed to break through the wall between him and the child. A wall he continously tried to get through every night for almost two years. Realizations had been made and some questions answered. Not many and even now he still had questions but knew better than to press. Kage would give them in time.

The vigilante still refused to give his real name and as curious as Shouta was he respected the other's privacy. For now. The compromise being that Kage didnt wear the mask in Shouta's apartment. An agreement being struck that night.

The kid still spent a lot of time away from his apartment but in the early morning hours he always came back. Shouta who had never been a particularly good cook learned to be better. Food and a bed was always waiting for the kid. Even if he was usually gone by morning.

This particular afternoon seemed to be the exception. After dealing with the hellions that was his class he returned to his apartment. Only to find a shaking Kage on his couch with tears in his eyes.

On instinct he tried to check the kid over for injuries. Instead he was given an impromptu armful of the kid. As he was about to ask what was wrong he felt his shirt grow wet.

Shouta sighed, "What's wrong, Kage? You can talk to me? Are you injured?"

There was a swift shake of the boy's head and for once he didnt doubt that it was the truth. Something had spooked the kid if he was here this early. Shouta could only hope that Kage would tell him.

The boy questioned after a moment of Shouta just holding him, "Can a quirkless become a hero?"

Shouta sucked in a surprised breath. Why was he... no. He couldn't be. Could he? The police and heroes alike that Kage had some kind of speed quirk. No one ever considered that he might not even have a quirk at all.

As for the question he answered truthfully but not unkindly, "A quirkless hero is going to face a lot of challenges and prejudice against them. Do I believe someone without a quirk can be a hero? Yes it will be a lot of work but anyone who's willing to put in the dedication in can be a hero."

"Thank you."

Shouta smiled softly as he said, "Of course, problem child. I will always take care of you. Even if you dont want me to."

That got a small laugh and a watery laugh. They were going to be okay. Shouta would make sure of it.
