While scouting for any nearby demons, Inuyasha made a horrifying discovery that pierced his heart.

His blood run cold at that sight. He was hoping for some time with Kagome while enduring some 'sits' from her but this...

The jewel hunters group have been traveling and had to rest at a nearby forest hoping to find a village tomorrow.

Kagome called out to him. "Inuyasha! Do you want some ramen? It's your favorite."

To her surprise, Inuyasha flatly told her. "No thank you. I don't have any appetite."

Sango looked confused. She did notice the half-demon being sullen and made a mental to ask him if they have the time.

After lunch, Kagome and Koga went into a secluded place in the forest with a river. They did not notice Inuyasha secretly trailing them and they made love...

Inuyasha couldn't take it anymore. He ran away as far as his legs could take him. He just wanted to be alone and away from her.

He felt tired and managed to sit on a log letting some tears fall from his eyes. It had been quiet for about five minutes until he felt a familiar presence in front of him.

"Kikyo..."

The undead priestess in front of him, her single objective involved bringing him down with her so they can be in hell together...forever.

She's wasn't expecting to see him so broken. "Inu..Inuyasha.." She mutters.

He stands up and manages to speak without stuttering in the calmest voice he could muster. "I know why you're here Kikyo. I will not fight you and I'm ready to join you in hell."

Kikyo was speechless in Inuyasha's defeated voice. He was even daring her to send him to hell with her. She wanted to console the poor half-demon as she asks. "Inuyasha, what is wrong with you? Why are you like this?"

She was surprised when Inuyasha shot back in an aggressive manner. "Why do you wanna know? More importantly, why do you care? Isn't this what you wanted, to see me like this all miserable so you could take me to hell with you? Why the change?"

Despite this, Kikyo gently tells him. "Because I can see that your heart is aching. Even though it's my goal to take you to hell with me, I can see that it is not my actions doing this. I wish to know so I can help you with whatever's causing this."

Convinced, Inuyasha sat down at the log. "I saw...your reincarnation and Koga making love together. He claimed her as his...I watched as she gave herself to him willingly."

Kikyo let out a soft gasp. For all his faults, Inuyasha didn't deserve to be betrayed by one of his closest. She walked closer until she sat beside him on the log. "Can you share any of your pain with me? I will listen if only you would talk."

"Besides this, I remember the time my mother died when I was young, killed by spiteful villagers because she had a half-demon for a son. In my rage, I killed them all but spared one because he and his family were kind to me." He looked at Kikyo. "I met you and we would have been happy together had it not for this whole business with Naraku."

Kikyo looked down sadly. "I wish that day had never come as well."

Inuyasha his eyes become blurry as he said. "It's becoming the lowest point of my life. First, my mother dies. Then you die by treachery and you want to kill me. Then your reincarnation who is supposed to be with me makes love with someone else behind my back. Why? Why must I suffer like this? What did I do to deserve this?"

Kikyo took all of this in, never interrupting him. She gently pulled his head to her chest while he gripped her as he cried. She saw him pass out to sleep then she summoned her soul collectors to carry her and Inuyasha to a nearby tree. She gently laid Inuyasha to a comfortable position then laid down herself next to him.

She whispered to his sleeping face. "I'm not leaving you Inuyasha. Not again this time." She too fell asleep next to him.

Meanwhile Kagome, accompanied by Sango were searching for him were they noticed Inuyasha and Kikyo sleeping together.

"Should we wake him up?" Sango asked.

"No." Kagome replied without emotion. "He can return if he wants to." They both left.

Inuyasha woke up to see Kikyo sleeping peacefully beside him. He kissed her making her moan in pleasure. He smiled as he kissed the side of neck which she giggled. "Stop, Inuyasha. I'm ticklish there."

Inuyasha lifted himself up and sniffed for a bit as Kikyo sat up too. "Kagome and Sango. They've been here and saw us."

Kikyo asked him. "Do you plan on rejoining them?"

Inuyasha shook his head. "No. I want to take some time and space away from Kagome."

"Inuyasha, you should know that my body is made of clay and dirt. Give me a moment to collect nearby souls then you can tell me what are your thoughts." Kikyo said as she moved away from him to have her soul collectors harvest souls for her.

Once she's done, Inuyasha said. "I have made a decision."

"I'm listening."

"I decided to travel with you Kikyo. I'll leave the group then hunt for the jewel shards separately and maybe take down Naraku together."

Kikyo beamed at him, happy to spend time with Inuyasha. He then said. "I'll just go and tell the rest of the group my plans."

"I'll follow you."

Inuyasha returned to their camp with Kikyo beside him. He told them that he is leaving the group to travel with Kikyo and needless to say, some of them weren't pleased.

Inuyasha dropped the bomb on Kagome. "I saw you yesterday and the day before that. Making love with Koga behind my back. I wanted to spend some time away from you and be with Kikyo." Kagome felt like she had been slapped with this revelation and bowed her head in shame.

"I knew it! I expected this from you Inuyasha and I was right!" Shippo shouted at him.

"You're leaving us just for that molding slab of a corpse you call a priestess? She may smell like Kagome but at least Kagome's alive and she's not." Koga sneered at them.

Inuyasha fired back sharply. "How dare you mock Kikyo, even in death!" This outburst stunned the jewel hunters group but Inuyasha wasn't finished. "If it weren't for this rosary on my neck, I would've gut you down where you stand!"

Sango was the first to recover as she said to everyone. "Guys, he's not joking."

Kagome nodded. "I know."

Miroku said in a rather dangerously low tone. "You really are an idiot Inuyasha. Do not think that we will welcome you back so easily if Kikyo decides to stab you in the back and leave you to die in the wilderness. And in the event that you come back, we will make sure that you will remember this moment for the rest of your time with us." Kikyo glared at the monk for suggesting such a thing.

Miroku and Shippo continued raining down threats (Miroku) and verbal barrages (Shippo) at Inuyasha and to a lesser extent, Kikyo. Kagome snapped and said something that might probably be out of character.

"WE ARE NOT NARAKU!" Everyone looked at Kagome as she calmed down and said. "Please...let him go."

Miroku narrowed his eyes at Inuyasha and backed down. Shippo glared at him then did the same. Inuyasha couldn't care less as he said to Kagome. "You made the right decision for once, Kagome. Thank you."

He turned around and said to Kikyo. "Let's go, we're leaving."

"I'm with you." Kikyo nodded.

Inuyasha left without looking back. Kikyo at his side.

Whilst walking, Kikyo commented. "That defensive comment you made to that one named Koga...you were talking about the subjugation rosary?"

"Yes. Placed by you if I remember correctly. Kagome used the magic word of 'sit' to keep me in line." Inuyasha replied.

"I see. From what I can observe during your times with her, she often abuses it whenever you tried to be yourself. And since she's my reincarnation, I'm responsible for that." She tells him. "When we find a place to rest, I will remove it from you."

"Thanks Kikyo." Inuyasha said.

When they did arrive at a clearing near a rather poor village, Kikyo declared to him. "I believe it's time for me to do what my reincarnation should have done a long time ago and remove that rosary on your neck. I trust you and I feel no need to place a leash on you, Inuyasha." She removed the rosary on his neck and with great effort, destroyed it.

"Thank you Kikyo." Inuyasha replied and gave her a deep kiss on the lips which surprised her but she reciprocated it.

As their lips parted, Inuyasha felt a surge of energy bursting within him. Kikyo saw this and explained. "It turns out that my sister Kaede made some slight...modifications...to the rosary as she explained to me that in the event that the rosary itself is not enough to stop you from taking innocent lives, your strength will be cut in half. Because I destroyed it, your strength is doubled than before." She smiled at him.

Inuyasha nodded, clearly liking the explanation. "Sweet. Now I feel like I can take on anything."

They arrived at the outskirts of the village. Kikyo noted. "This village must have fallen on hard times. Poor crops. Dry soil. Poor people living here and cold nights. If we can, I'd like to help them."

Inuyasha shrugged. "I don't see why not. Let's go."

They happened to find a hunter living in his tent and sitting near a campfire.

The hunter noticed them and said. "Hello."

"Greetings." Kikyo greeted back. "What are you doing in these parts?"

"I'm hunting wolves that are harassing some of the travelers. I'm also trying to collect their pelts so I can blankets for the villagers."

"I presume that something went wrong?"

"Yes. Damn demon dog managed to bite me in the leg while I was sharpening my sword. I killed it but I won't be able to go on hunting soon."

"If you two can collect I think at least ten pelts, I will be able to craft them to blankets for those poor villagers."

Kikyo smiled and nodded. "We'll aid you for this kind deed."

Inuyasha said whilst walking away. "I'll do it. Wait here, I'll be back."

Two hours later...the hunter is cooking food on the campfire while Kikyo is meditating. In her meditation, she mused. "To think that it take my very own death to realize the beauty around me..." she opened her eyes and saw Inuyasha's presence, covered in blood but got the pelts needed. "..and in the people that I love." She finished and smiled.

"Here are the pelts you wanted." Inuyasha told the hunter who took them.

"Hmm..not the best quality but passable. Here's some cooked meat I've been preparing." Inuyasha took the meat, gave one to Kikyo and ate the other. "Now, I'll go inside the tent and prepare those blankets. Thanks."

They went to the village where the villagers are either offering their services to them or begging. They found a small child wearing a kimono who ask them. "Are you good or bad people?"

"We're not evil. What's the matter, little one?" Kikyo asked gently.

"May I have some water?" The boy asked.

Inuyasha pulled out a wooden cup of water then gave it to him. He yelled out gratefully. "Yay, thank you! I'll take you to my papa!"

He ran to his father who is working on some crops and called out to him. "Papa! I got some water for you!"

"Thank you. Wait, how did you get so much water?" The father asked.

"Big demon with kind lady gave it to me papa." His son answered.

Only for a bandit to snatch it away from the child's hands. "And now it's mine! I'm thirsty!"

"No! Give it back!" The child shouted back.

Kikyo fired an arrow from her bow at the bandit's head, killing him.

The poor villager said to Inuyasha. "Thank you. It's a shame the water you gave us is now lost."

He replied. "I don't have any more water to give. Sorry but is there another way we can help you?"

"Wi-will you help us? There's a fountain a short walk to the east but bandits built their camp around it and don't share it with anyone. If you can get rid of them, you would be doing a great service to us!" The poor father requested.

Kikyo replied. "We'll take a look but we make no promises."

The followed that poor man's directions and saw the fountain being guarded by five bandits.

"You take two and I'll handle the other three." Inuyasha tells Kikyo as he carefully snuck near to the bandits.

Kikyo carefully nocked two arrows into her bow and made aim. Fired and hit bullseye. Inuyasha run the third one with his sword, broke the fourth's neck then brutally split the fifth's one torso in half.

They went back to the poor man where Kikyo said. "That fountain is clear of bandits now."

"Thank you! I wish we can reward you with something but we don't have much."

Kikyo smiled warmly. "We need no reward. I ask only that you people use the water in that fountain for yourselves, your crops and your children."

That poor villager loudly called to everyone. "Everyone. If you're hearing this, this priestess and her demon companion have helped us by ridding the fountain of bandits!" Cheers erupted and he turned to her. "You are free to use that fountain whenever you like. Thank you priestess, you and your companion have given us our hope back."

Kikyo bowed and left with Inuyasha.

As they sat down to rest, Inuyasha felt a familiar presence. "My brother is here."

Indeed. Sesshomaru appeared along with his servant Jaken and Rin.

He announced. "I'm here to take that sword of your corpse Inuyasha. I also noticed that you left the company of your group. I thought that you would prefer the company of friends."

To his slight surprise, Inuyasha didn't seem hot-headed. "Let's just say that I didn't want to see a certain person who'll be unnamed for a time."

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at him and looked at Kikyo. "You've left the company of a group of friends for one human priestess and a dead one no less. Like our father, you have grown attachments for humans. At least he had someone who is alive."

Inuyasha growled and said in a low dangerous tone. "I can handle your insults just fine. But do not dare. Insult. Kikyo!"

They readied their swords but then Jaken reported. "Lord Sesshomaru! There is a horde of demons bearing down on us!"

Kikyo interjected. "You are Inuyasha's brother, Yes?" He didn't answer but she continued on. "We don't need to fight. Right now, we have a common enemy by those demons which I can assume came from Naraku."

Sesshomaru thought for a minute then replied. "Very well, I will assist you two in ridding us of this filth. But only because it is also threatening my life and my followers with me."

A horde of fifty demons, some strong, some not charged at them. Sesshomaru charged and killed twenty of them in an instant with the abilities of his sword, he was then backed by his servant Jaken. Inuyasha killed ten in a single slash but sensed something wrong.

Rin, being on her own and had nothing and known nothing to defend herself, just stood by afraid of five demons walking menacingly at her. Kikyo killed one with her bow but she noticed Rin and ran to her, hugging the girl but leaving her vulnerable.

Inuyasha observed the two but didn't noticed a demon dog pounced him to the ground. Blocking it with his forearm, he grabbed his sword and yelled. "KIKYO!" He threw his sword at her.

Kikyo caught it and despite never using a sword before, managed to kill the demons charging at them. She kneeled to Rin's level and gently asked her. "Are you okay?"

Rin nodded then embraced her.

Inuyasha managed to get the demon off of him and punched it hard, killing him.

He also saw Sesshomaru wiping out the remaining demons by his lonesome.

Inuyasha walked to Kikyo and asked. "You okay?"

"I am now. Thanks to your sword." She gave back Tetsuiga back to him.

Sesshomaru said. "I believe it's time for us to part ways for now." He did notice the closeness his brother has on the undead priestess. 'He is rather close to her. I wonder if that is what father felt with his wife.'

Rin however remained adamant. "Rin doesn't want to leave your brother and the nice lady! Rin wants them to join us!"

Sesshomaru sighed irritably, knowing that he would hate to hurt Rin with this. "Very well. Jaken, we will travel with Inuyasha."

"Yes, my Lord."

Inuyasha raised an eyebrow. "May I ask why you decided to come with us?"

"Mostly because of Rin. However, I am not doing this out of the goodness of my heart, assuming I had any but for her sake I will join you."

Inuyasha shrugged. "Welcome aboard." Rin beamed.

Meanwhile the jewel hunters group came to the very same village where Miroku asked the eldest of the villagers. "Excuse me but have you been harassed by demons? We can rid you of them if you wish."

The elder replied. "No need. Since that priestess and her demon companion went here, things have been turning for the better. The priestess is quite young and beautiful and I'm surprised that she had a demon accompanying her but they helped us a lot so I'm not complaining."

Kagome chimed in. "Is this demon a young man with silver hair wearing a red outfit?"

"Yes. They just left some time ago. Why do you ask?"

Kagome shook her head. "Nothing. Just asking."

Shippo commented. "Inuyasha must have been here and I'm guessing Kikyo's the one who helped them. Really nice of them to do that."

Kagome looked at the horizon, wondering what Inuyasha's been up to.

Kikyo is seen hugging Rin where the little girl noticed her hand and asked. "What's wrong with your hand?"

Kikyo saw it and cursed silently seeing her hand paler than usual and suddenly feeling weak. "I'm sorry Rin but I have to be away for now."

Rin watched as Kikyo stood up and started collecting nearby souls through her soul collectors. Rin wondered aloud. "What does she need all those souls for?"

Inuyasha answered with arms crossed. "Kikyo's dead. Her soul is incomplete and she needs souls to sustain herself. She losses them, she'll die a second and permanent time."

Rin looked at Inuyasha with a horrified expression. "But Rin doesn't want her to die! She's so pretty and nice!"

"Worry not, little one. I will not die so long as Inuyasha is here to protect me." Kikyo came back, having heard everything and looking at Inuyasha with loving eyes. "I trust him with my life." Inuyasha beamed at him.

Sesshomaru called out. "I am seeing yet another flying demon heading our way. I believe it's coming for Kikyo."

And he was right. A swarm of flying demons somehow swept through and distracted both demon brothers. One of them grabbed Kikyo in the arm and carried her away.

Hearing Rin's scream of horror, Inuyasha saw Kikyo being carried away and managed to make a very high jump and grabbed her wrist. Unfortunately, his grip begin to slip and he let her go and fell.

Inuyasha crashed into the ground on his back and could do nothing but watch as Kikyo was being kidnapped.

Sesshomaru stood beside him and said. "Let us go and rescue your priestess."

Inuyasha stood up and asked with a raised eyebrow. "I take it you're not doing this out of the goodness of your heart?"

"Rin will be quite upset with me if you go find her alone and the both of you die within the span of one day and she will cry when something terrible befalls the priestess and you by a lesser extent and I can't have that." He turned to Rin and Jaken. "You will wait here for our return. Jaken, look after her for us."

"Yes, my Lord."

"Will you two come back?" Rin asked worriedly.

"We will." Inuyasha rubbed Rin's head. He then turned to Sesshomaru. "Okay, you lead I'll follow."

The two ran towards what appears to be a deserted battleground. Inuyasha commented. "A great battle took place here. The ground is red with fresh blood."

"Is there nothing in this land beyond dust and carnage?" Sesshomaru wandered aloud.

Inuyasha sensed something and ran forward to his brother's annoyance and shouted to him. "Wait! I know those wolves! They must be Koga's pack and fighting Naraku's creatures!" He pointed at the pack of wolves that seemed completely fine.

Sesshomaru's eyes narrowed at them. "Perhaps, they did not fight those demons after all." He noticed that something is wrong with them.

And it is as no sooner had they approached, the wolves attacked them which they killed with ease. Sesshomaru summoned Tojikin while Inuyasha summoned Tetsuiga.

They kept walking among the battleground where Sesshomaru stepped on something. He looked down and saw a broken bow along with a quiver. Inuyasha kneeled, picked up the bow and sniffed it.

"Kikyo's bow. They must have stripped it from her when they dropped her off."

"Which means we're close." Sesshomaru added, seeing his brother pick up the bow and quiver of arrows.

On the way, they found a man wearing a brown robe stained with dried blood. He has orange glowing eyes and black, graying hair. He has tentacles where his arms and legs should be. He seemed to be working on a wolf lying on a table. He finally noticed them and said. "Oh! I didn't notice you there! I did notice that you were killing my guards on this battleground. You're not going to hurt me are you?"

Inuyasha looked at his brother who just shrugged. He answered. "We're not planning on it."

The figure sighed in relief. "Oh, thank goodness! My name is Karanu. Pleased to meet you."

Sesshomaru replied coldly. "The only reason you live is because we need information."

Karanu's spirits dropped and said. "Oh. Well feel free to ask away."

"What of the pack you attacked here?" Inuyasha asked.

"That was by Naraku's orders. I just simply used them as test subjects and bodyguards. A regrettable situation and I wish it had been avoided. As a result, the jewel hunters group came before you did. They were pushed back and they have been licking their wounds."

Sesshomaru went back to their original task. "We're looking for a woman wearing priestess clothes. Brown eyes, pale skin and black hair."

To their surprise, Karanu knew what they were talking about. "You must mean that one named Kikyo. We also captured that girl with the odd uniform."

"Kagome." Inuyasha said.

"Yes. They have been sent to a recently constructed cobblestone tower due north of here which also happens to be my laboratory." Karanu said, pointing at that tower standing very tall, you can see it.

"Can you lead us to that tower and gain entrance there?" Sesshomaru asked.

"I can. We can't go to the entrance though,that place is heavily defended. I'll escort you two to my laboratory then we can begin the search for your priestess." Karanu said, leaving his makeshift table and started walking with his tentacled feet.

As they walked what appears to be a cobblestone tower, Sesshomaru mused. "This tower seemed to be complete only recently. I can see its construction is rushed."

Karanu nodded. "Indeed. It was designed to be an outpost of sorts commissioned by yours truly. The two priestesses have been held captive as we speak."

They entered the laboratory through a back door underneath the bridge of the entrance where it looks to be of everything of a laboratory.

The next door opened and it beheld a very wide area of various test tubes filled with infants inside of them.

"Ah..my cloning lab! My pride and joy! I have been producing clones for Naraku's army you see and every single one of them has been cultivated and bred through clones of original demons." Karanu said proudly.

Inuyasha asked curiously. "And what were the original hosts?"

"Various dragons, wolf, giants, foxes that I asked either Kagura or Kanna to capture. Overseen by Kohaku to report to Naraku." Karanu explained. "Wait here guys, I'll just collect something."

He went to some sort of basket and picked some egg shaped objects and placed them on a bag hanging on his back. "There. I'm ready."

They walked past the cloning lab and into the staircase. Good thing for the both of them, Karanu was there to guide them to the prison area at the bottom.

"Inuyasha!" A weak and pained voice croaked. "Is that you?"

"Kikyo! Can you tell us where you're at?" Inuyasha called out.

"Just follow my voice. You must be near." Kikyo called out.

They went into the prison cell to notice Kikyo's arms dangling almost lifelessly on the chains and shackles. Karanu said. "Hold on. I'll get her out."

Turning his tentacles to blades, he quickly cut the chains free. Kikyo collapsed to the floor and Inuyasha caught her in his arms. He noticed that she looked paler and weaker.

"I'd knew you'd come for me..."Kikyo croaked, seeing the man she loved swearing to protect her. "Naraku drained most of my souls, only keeping a few to keep me alive..."

Inuyasha nodded and stood up with her in his arms while Karanu held a brown bowl with white soup. "Please drink this. It will rejuvenate your current souls and can last another day without hunting for new ones later on." Kikyo was too weak to protest so she let him gently tilt the bowl allowing her to drink from it.

Sesshomaru asked suspiciously. "You've been helpful. Why should we trust you?"

Karanu looked at the demon lord and he detected traces of regret through his eyes. "Well you see when Naraku found me, my arms and legs were cut off by angry humans who thought I was a demon due to my rather...unethical experiments. I know some of the things I did for him were questionable and rather downright cruel by performing experiments needed to create his army but a man needs to make a living..but now it's time for me to leave."

He waved his tentacles at them. "I'll travel with you guys and do my research at the same time. I help you, you help me."

Sesshomaru nodded. "Very well. You may accompany us but betray me or my brother and I'll cut off both your hands and tentacles before your head." He threatened.

"Yes, I understand completely." Karanu nodded humbly.

"Wait, what about Kagome?" Inuyasha asked.

"Ahh...yes. She's been delivered to Naraku outside of the tower. I'll escort you there." Karanu replied.

"If I can, I'll help. I'm still weak but I can support you with my archery." Kikyo chimed in after Inuyasha gently set her down. Inuyasha gave her back her quiver of arrows while he had Karanu repair her bow.

"Sesshomaru, you lead and follow Karanu. We'll join you." Inuyasha tells Sesshomaru.

"You presume to give me orders now?" Sesshomaru said, a little miffed.

Inuyasha replied tiredly. "Brother, please don't fight me on this."

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes. "So be it. Lead on Karanu."

They went outside and encountered heavy resistance in the form of demon clones. They did find Naraku who is entertaining himself by watching Kagome fighting the demon clones hopelessly outnumbered.

Naraku noticed them and said. "So, you are the group that managed to barge in my outpost and rescue your priestess. I would be glad to fight you but I have matters elsewhere as I have personally defeated Kagome's team." He turned to his demon army. "Destroy these interlopers and bring me their heads...if you can." He disappeared into a smoking breath of miasma.

They fought off the clone army with relative ease and Kagome was stunned to see Inuyasha and Sesshomaru fighting together.

"Inuyasha...you're here." Kagome trailed off.

He nodded. "To save you and Kikyo."

She nodded. She then noticed that tentacled man speak out. "Now that is over and done with. We must destroy this tower before Naraku can send Kohaku to retrieve anything out of it."

"What would you have us do?" Kikyo asked.

"Simple. All you have to do is push the stones in each side of the tower marked by a yellow paint. Once that's done, you better run and fast."

Sesshomaru found the stones and slide them forward, causing them to crumble and finally collapse.

Inuyasha asked Kagome. "So how did you get captured by Naraku?"

"While we were traveling, we were attacked by a large number of demons. We killed most of them but I got separated from the rest of the group and subsequently got captured. I tried to call for anyone but they're either busy fighting the demons or -in Koga's case- running to find his pack."

Sesshomaru called out. "We have company. Your friends are here."

Sango, Kilala, Miroku, Shippo and Koga ran to them. Inuyasha called to them. "Here's Kagome. She's safe now."

Koga spat. "Who died and made you leader?" Without his meaning to say it.

"Actually, I'm the leader you fool. And if you must know, we have been fighting these demons clones while you were too busy licking your wounds to join in." Sesshomaru shot back.

Koga looked at Karanu who demanded. "I saw some of the members of my pack being mind controlled. Was it your doing?!"

"I admit those infected wolves were my responsibility but I had nothing to do with your pack's demise. You can thank Naraku for that one." Karanu said.

Inuyasha shook his head. "That's enough of that. Kagome, We'll be leaving you with them now."

"Inuyasha...Thank you." Kagome had all but whispered but Inuyasha heard and nodded.

"Inuyasha, you can still return to us. Kagome misses you." Miroku offered.

But Inuyasha merely looked over his shoulder, made a salute to Kagome then left with Sesshomaru, Kikyo and Karanu.

"You came back!" Rin cried and jumped, hugging Kikyo.

"Inuyasha and his brother rescued me. With the both of them here, I doubt there's anything that can stop them." Kikyo replied.

"You hear that Sesshomaru? She trusts you." Inuyasha said while Sesshomaru let out a noise.

Karanu said. "Now that we're here. We gotta talk about the steps defeating Naraku."

"Mr. Octopus wants to say something." Rin says.

Karanu chuckled at the nickname for him. "I believe that the first phase of our plan is to rescue Kanna and Kagura. They are incarnations of Naraku, created by me of himself. Now I know what you might say just let me finish. They are currently staying inside Naraku's castle, resting. The plan is to make a mock attack on Naraku while getting Kanna and Kagura out."

He looked at Sesshomaru. "You and I will attack him and hold him out for as long as possible while Inuyasha and Kikyo would try to persuade the two to follow them."

Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow as he said. "You don't look like much. How can you hope to assist me against Naraku?"

"Thanks to my powers, I can temporarily augment your powers or physical strength as support. If not, I can clone demons to serve as your army. You can chose between the two choices."

"I believe I prefer to lead an army of demons." Sesshomaru replied.

"Very well. It'll take time for me to cultivate your army. I still have the eggs needed to produce such a thing. Give or take six days for me to breed them." Karanu said while Sesshomaru nodded.

"How can we hope to convince Kanna or Kagura? If I remember right, they are not going to come with us by our word alone." Kikyo inquired.

"As I recall, their hearts are being kept in glass cases in Naraku's chambers before we left for that tower, hopefully they're still there. You need to retrieve them, it is the only way for you to convince them to betray Naraku. If they are still skeptical, promise to them that I will return their hearts to them, they'll cave."

"Why need them on our side?" Inuyasha asked.

"Like I said, they're both Naraku's incarnations. He will absorb their hearts to be given the extra edge he needs for the final battle soon." Karanu repeated.

"I see." Inuyasha said. "Let's take a break for now."

"I understand. You need rest from that nasty kidnapping business with Kikyo. Besides, I need time to breed my clones. I'll talk to you Sesshomaru when they're ready." Karanu brought out his bag filled with eggs then walked away.

Inuyasha and Kikyo spent the latter part of the day with each other as Inuyasha smiled and he finally made his confession. "I'd like to talk about us Kikyo. I love you. I want to be with you no matter what. Love is the sole thing of beauty in these times."

Kikyo looked at Inuyasha in wonder. "Inuyasha..."

"I can change my habits, take fewer risks, maybe adopt Rin if Sesshomaru lets me. We can settle down in a village together and I'd build us a house.."

Kikyo's heart inflamed at that as she droned on. "A house...yes. We can spend the rest of our lives together and I would be happy if I would bear your children and raise them..we can help other people in exchange for what we need...we can grow old while our children grow up and have their own and finally you can hold me in your arms as we reminisce our moments..." she unconsciously placed a hand on her belly as she was saying these.

She let out a light gasp as she felt Inuyasha's hand on her shoulder and looked up. "Inu..Inuyasha..." she trailed off as his hand went from her arm all the way to her belly above her hand. She couldn't make out his odd expression, golden eyes looking deeply into her brown orbs as if he could stare at her very soul and implored. "Inuyasha? Please say something."

"I. Can't. Lose. You." Inuyasha said with sincere desperation. "And I will be very happy to start a family with you Kikyo."

Those very words from Inuyasha brought Kikyo to tears as she cupped Inuyasha's face and kissed him deeply. Inuyasha reciprocating it.

They stopped when they heard a gasp. They looked and saw Karanu standing there and said. "I'd hate to interrupt this beautiful moment but it wasn't I who interrupted it." He looked down and saw Rin hiding behind his robe. He gently pushed her aside and off of him when she tried to hide by clutching onto his robe.

Rin avoided looking at Kikyo in the eyes as she said meekly. "Rin is sorry for watching."

Kikyo kneeled to the child's level and said gently. "Nothing to be ashamed for little one. You have done nothing wrong."

Inuyasha rubbed Rin's head and added. "Yeah, moments like these can be pretty nice to watch."

Karanu said. "If I may, Kikyo I'd like to have a moment of your time in private. There's something I want to discuss with you. And do not worry Inuyasha, I do not plan on hurting her."

"Very well." She said though she wondered what would the researcher speak to her about.

Karanu and Kikyo disappeared a little further in the woods though not very far.

Rin asked. "What's Mr. Octopus going to talk with the nice lady about?"

Inuyasha lifted her up and placed her on his shoulder. "Probably something important. Let's go see your Lord Sesshomaru."

Once they are alone, Kikyo asked. "So what is it you want to talk to me about?"

"The Closing Plan. My personal plan in defeating Naraku. All you need to know is that like Kagura, I have a personal vendetta against him and I've been spending months planning, maneuvering and calculating every single scenario, resource and powers I can get my hands on."

"I see. So what are the stages of the plan?" Kikyo asked.

"The first stage is to bring Kagura and Kanna by our side. They desire freedom above all else and they trust me enough to honor my word. They were like children to me and it was I who molded them using Naraku's template, incarnations of himself."

"By bringing them both to our side, we will deprive Naraku of his most trusted lieutenants and bring ourselves two allies." Kikyo mused, putting the pieces together.

"Exactly. The second stage of the plan is to get the heart of a crazed dragon demon with a jewel shard embedded on it. I've been keeping track on it for quite some time and while I cannot ascertain it's exact location, we will find it when the time comes."

Kikyo didn't say anything, allowing Karanu to continue.

"The third stage is to acquire the blood of a priestess and before you object Kikyo let me finish. What I need is actually from one priestess you may know: Tsubaki."

"Yes, I'm aware. She saw me as a rival and aimed to surpass me. I heard that she made a deal with Naraku and is allied with him, becoming a dark priestess. Naraku tricked her by taking her making her have the ability to transform into an ogre, took away her spiritual powers and left her to fend for herself." Kikyo said, frowning in thought.

"That is not surprising. Naraku always manipulates and betrays people behind the scenes and everyone, including you, fell for it." Karanu replied dryly. Kikyo didn't take offense for it as he was right.

"What is it you want from Tsubaki?" She asked.

"A small sample of her blood. How you and Inuyasha deal with her is up to you. Just make sure bring a sample of her blood, I will have need of it and you might not get a second chance."

"Understood. And the fourth stage?"

"I'm afraid that Inuyasha won't like it. His friends won't like it and you definitely would not like it. It involves taking the jewel shards the one named Kagome has in her possession."

"You want us to take the jewel shards from them?" Kikyo guessed the fourth stage.

"I did say you won't like it. I'm willing to guess that they won't give it up easily. I will go there and try my best to earn their trust. You will assist me in this."

"Kagome won't be so thrilled if she sees me. Especially when being compared as my reincarnation."

"We will have to try. I need those jewel shards because the sacred jewel itself is the keystone of the plan. I will use it to create an edge for Inuyasha against Naraku."

"But its only one of its kind. Inuyasha hopes to use it to make two wishes for him and me." Kikyo said a little desperately.

"I can create a duplicate version of it but I need your help. Once we've gotten the shards, I'll ask for your help."

"I see. Well this plan of yours had better be worthwhile but why are you telling me this?" Kikyo asked.

"Because in the event that something happens to me, I can entrust someone with this delicate knowledge to continue the Closing Plan. I NEEDED to let someone know and I'm rather picky on who to trust because of Naraku's eyes through Kohaku. It is and will be worthwhile I can assure you. So much has led to this day, so much planning, maneuvering. It's as if the very stars are coming align." Karanu said.

"Very well. I'll make a mental note of it. Just be sure to be honest and specific on your plan and we'll do things on our end." Kikyo said.

"I shall. Thank you for your time priestess, let us go see the others." Karanu replied as they headed back to Inuyasha.

A week later, Karanu proudly declared. "Lord Sesshomaru, behold your standing army!"

Sesshomaru had to admit that it was quite a sight to see the army of human like demons stand uniformly in line. He asked. "Can they follow my orders to the letter?"

"Indeed. I modified the original template to be more obedient and less independent. And worry not, I made sure that knowledge of combat is instilled into their minds."

"Most impressive. I can see why Naraku values you highly. Now let us proceed with the plan." Sesshomaru said. "Inuyasha, Kikyo. You two sneak inside the castle and recruit Kanna and Kagura to our cause. I will attack the castle directly and do as much damage as I can."

"Yup. We have to find their hearts first. Can you keep Naraku busy while we search his chambers?" Inuyasha asked.

"I can. My power rivals his and I can buy some time while you do it." Sesshomaru replied.

"Do not kill Naraku as it is not his time yet Lord Sesshomaru but injure him as much as you can." Karanu requested.

"With the greatest of pleasure Karanu."

They made it to Naraku's castle and Sesshomaru rallied the demon clones and charged at the entrance. The guards outside were instantly killed.

They busted the entrance down and Sesshomaru called out. "Naraku! I have invaded your castle! Fight me like a true demon or die a coward!"

Naraku appeared and replied menacingly. "I had Kohaku assemble my army. You will have your fight Sesshomaru."

Naraku's army, led by Kohaku, attacked Sesshomaru's demon clones. While Naraku's army had the advantage of mass troops, Sesshomaru's army made up for skill what the lacked in numbers. Sesshomaru currently clashed with Naraku.

"Why the sudden boldness to attack Sesshomaru? I thought you cared little for the well-being of humans?" Naraku demanded as he blocked Sesshomaru's sword with his spider legs.

"I don't. But you are a danger to us both and you must be eliminated." Sesshomaru said.

"Then you must have a reason for attacking. What is it?" Naraku asked, trying to throw a punch with his other spider leg.

Only for Sesshomaru to catch it with his other arm restored by Karanu. "That's for me to know and you not to find out."

Naraku summoned a sword then clashed blades with Sesshomaru. He tried to use his powers against the demon lord but Sesshomaru used one of his soldiers as a disposable shield. He charged at Sesshomaru with his spider legs behind him.

Meanwhile, Inuyasha and Kikyo infiltrates the castle and noticed that there are no guards. Naraku had them join to attack Sesshomaru. They made it to Naraku's chambers. They found the hearts and took them. On a side note, Inuyasha found some eggs and took them, knowing that Karanu might use them.

They found Kanna and Kagura in one hall together and Kikyo told them. "Kanna, Kagura? Please come with us."

As expected, Kagura demanded. "Why should we? We are loyal to Naraku and we can't leave because he has our hearts." Kanna nodded.

Kikyo smirked. "On the contrary..." she gestured Inuyasha forward and he revealed their hearts. They were surprised and fearful but Kikyo said. "Come with us and we can have Karanu place them in your chests."

"Well, when you put it like that and adding Karanu how can we refuse? Okay, we'll follow you." Kagura conceded. "Kanna, let's get out of this cursed castle before Naraku comes back." Kanna nodded.

Kikyo ordered her love. "Inuyasha, escort Kagura and Kanna out of here. I will inform Sesshomaru."

"Got it. Okay girls! Let's go!" Inuyasha said and the two followed while Kikyo separated from the three.

Sesshomaru is having the upper hand against Naraku who had to rely on his powers against the demon lord. "What's the matter o great and mighty Naraku? As I have surmised, you are more of a schemer than a warrior. Even my brother can beat you." Sesshomaru mocked.

Naraku gritted his teeth, but before he could reply he heard Kikyo call out. "Sesshomaru! We have what we came for! I believe it is time for us to withdraw!"

"I hear you, priestess." Sesshomaru replied then he called to his forces. "Clones, let us fall back! Begin strategic withdrawal!"

"This isn't over Sesshomaru! I will have your head and heart rolled in one! I will make sure every living day you breathe is a miserable one!" Naraku shouted.

Sesshomaru smirked. "You're right about one thing Naraku, this isn't over! It is only the beginning! The beginning of your downfall!" He dodged one of Naraku's spiritual blasts then he sprinted away.

Sesshomaru's army began falling back though some died because Naraku's took advantage of this to stab them in the backs.

Naraku observed the battlefield. There were some casualties in Sesshomaru's side but far more of his. It'll take a while for him to replenish the numbers. He called out to Kohaku. "Kohaku, call Kagura and Kanna! I have need of their services!"

Kohaku did so but after eight minutes he returned. "Lord Naraku, they have both been missing. The lack of disturbance in their area means they have left of their own free will."

"They must have left with Kikyo who offered them an incentive to leave my side! This entire attack is nothing but a distraction to steal those two away!" Naraku said as the realization dawned on him and he made out a rather frustrated cry of rage making Kohaku wince.

"Well done everyone! Although I am saddened by the loss of my clones, this is well worth the cost." Karanu said to the three as they returned to the forest.

"Hope you don't mind me saying this but you kept your word after all this time Karanu." Kagura said.

"Yes, it's really a difficult time for me being under Kohaku's watchful eye. It's a good thing that a culmination of years of planing paid off."

"Karanu, I found some eggs and their hearts. Hope you like them." Inuyasha said handing them over.

"Well done! I wasn't even sure you would know where to look. This'll help replenish Sesshomaru's army's numbers." Karanu said, taking the hearts and the eggs.

"Now, about your promise..." Kagura said.

"Of course. Follow me and I'll place them back into your chests." Karanu said, then he looked at the others. "Feel free to do whatever you wish as rest. I will call for the next stage of the plan."

A whole day finished and Kagura announced to everyone. "As Karanu told me, I'm willing to throw my lot in with you guys since I doubt Naraku will welcome us back when he discovers we have our hearts back. Kanna and I will aid you finish Karanu's plan." Kanna nodded firmly.

Sesshomaru replied. "I speak for everyone when I say that we welcome you to our group but know this: if you betray us and rejoin Naraku, I will personally rip your hearts and crush them before your very eyes. And if not that, we will hunt you down and we WILL destroy you."

Kagura smirked and placed a hand on Sesshomaru's shoulder. "I expect nothing less from you."

In the meantime, the group traveled to a clearing filled with mud as Inuyasha mused. 'I honestly didn't expect things to go out the way they did. I don't know how to learn a married life yet. I wonder how my mother can teach me if she were still alive."

His musings were interrupted when he was hit in the face with mud. He looked to see Rin giggling at him with hands closing her mouth. Smirking, he grabbed a fistful of mud and threw it back at her.

Kagura rolled her eyes at this immature fight but then a mud ball stained her kimono. She angrily shouted at the source that was Inuyasha. "You wretched half-demon! You know how hard it is to clean up this mud from my lovely kimono!"

Inuyasha ignored that as he threw another at her. Enraged, she grabbed two fistfuls and threw them both at him while Rin laughed madly.

Kikyo smiled at the carefree moment while Sesshomaru watched emotionlessly, the two being the only bystanders while Inuyasha, Rin and Kagura kept throwing mud balls at each other, Jaken chuckling at that. Kikyo mused. 'I never knew he was so good with children. I believe that he will make a fine father someday.'

Unfortunately, the fighting stopped when Sesshomaru was hit in the face with mud accidentally by Kanna who wanted to join the fight. The mirror-using girl was ashamed and she thought that he would punish her. However, Jaken was laughing at the top of his lungs and Sesshomaru retaliated by summoning Tokijin and sliding a good mass of mud at his servant, covering him with it and making him stop laughing.

Sesshomaru smiled at that and saw everybody who participated in the mud fight laugh while Kikyo giggled.

The next day, Karanu called a meeting and announced. "Everyone, let us proceed with the second stage of the plan: I have discovered the whereabouts of a crazed dragon demon that is rampaging near a village to the northwest. I believe the reason for this is due to a jewel shard on its hind leg. Inuyasha, take Kikyo and Kagura with you and retrieve the dragon's heart from its corpse and the jewel shard if you can."

Suddenly Kanna appeared and reported. "Masters Karanu and Inuyasha, I have done my scouting of the area and noticed that the jewel shard hunters group is engaging the dragon demon in combat."

Karanu said. "Then time of the essence here! You must leave immediately Inuyasha! Remember, I need that heart. The jewel shards are optional."

"Got it." Inuyasha said. "Girls, follow me!"

"Let's go make trouble." Kagura replied.

"We'll follow you." Kikyo seconded.

Flying on Kagura's feather ride, Inuyasha and Kikyo saw Kagome, Miroku, Sango and Kilala fighting the dragon demon with great difficulty.

"Kikyo, you're with me. Kagura stay up here and be ready for anything." Inuyasha ordered.

"I get to watch the fun from above huh? All right Inuyasha." Kagura replied as she watched Inuyasha take Kikyo into his arms bridal style and jumped off.

"Inuyasha, I am detecting the jewel shard on its hind leg as Karanu predicted. Maybe I'm mistaken but I am also detecting another jewel shard on its upper left arm joint." Kikyo said as they landed to the ground and Inuyasha set her down.

Shippo was the first to take notice of them and called out. "Guys, it's Inuyasha and Kikyo! And wait, Kagura is flying above us!"

"We're here to help you take out the crazy dragon demon about to threaten this village. But when we kill it, anything it possesses are ours." Kikyo said.

"Fine. This demon has been erratic since it has a sacred jewel shard. Just aid us get rid of it." Miroku said.

And in a minute, Inuyasha rushed towards it and cleaved it in half with Tenseiga. He grabbed its heart and the two jewel shards.

"You were right Kikyo. There ARE two jewel shards in that demon." Inuyasha said, covered in blood and carrying the three items.

"Inuyasha, how did you kill that dragon demon so quickly? Kilala and I would have trouble due to the boost the jewel shards have on it." Sango asked, fascinated by his new found strength.

"I just did Sango. It turns out that my strength was cut in half when the rosary was on my neck. Now that it's gone, my strength has returned and made me stronger than ever. Maybe I can match Sesshomaru in terms of strength and power." Inuyasha answered, Kikyo nodded in confirmation.

"Wait! You're telling me that Inuyasha has been fighting in half strength in all the times he's been traveling with us and has slowly been stronger overtime?" Kagome asked.

"That is correct. I am partially to blame as I have created the rosary and Kaede being the one to modify it." Kikyo replied.

"I admit this is useful information. Inuyasha, can you return with us? If Kagura promises not to harm innocent lives, we won't pursue her." Miroku offered.

Shippo protested. "Miroku, she's a servant of Naraku! She can't be trusted! Inuyasha can't-" He didn't finish as Inuyasha growled.

"Inuyasha what? Inuyasha can't be trusted? Is that what you're going to say?" Inuyasha demanded and Shippo not replying and looking away.

"Inuyasha, there is still time for you to return. Believe us when we say that we are not your enemy. We'll let Kikyo join us if that's what you want." Miroku tried to say.

"Don't listen to him Inuyasha! The word of a monk -especially one with wandering hands- means nothing. They'll turn on us the moment our backs are turned." Kagura called out from above and Inuyasha frowned while trying to weigh her words against Miroku's.

"Inuyasha I-" Miroku was cut off when suddenly Koga charged in and tried to hit Kikyo but Inuyasha shielded her and taking the brunt of the damage.

"Ha! Take that you motherfucker!" Koga said proudly.

Inuyasha backed off and placed Kikyo gently off of him. He threw the heart and the shards at Kagura and shouted. "Kagura, take the heart and the shards to Karanu and tell my brother to send reinforcements!"

Kagura obeyed immediately and flew off.

"Reinforcements?" Sango parroted, unsure what that mean.

Inuyasha saw Kikyo dodging Koga's attack and when he kicked her, it greatly angered him.

"Koga, stop your attack!" Miroku ordered but the damage was already done when he saw Inuyasha's eyes of betrayal.

"So that's how it is then monk, you talk about friendship and faith but in the end you'll have Koga stab us in the back like Naraku would do when our guard is down! Well I won't be deceived again!" Inuyasha said and charged at the hesitant monk.

Suddenly, Kagura flew and brought twenty demon clones on her feather. "Reinforcements have arrived!"

She tells Kikyo. "I'll deal with the little brat. You help Inuyasha and deal with the carbon copy."

"Duly noted." She replied and ran to assist her love.

Kagura ran to Shippo and Kagome and fired blasts of wind against them. She angrily shouted. "How dare you stab us in the back and betraying Inuyasha!"

"What are you talking about? Inuyasha is our ally!" Shippo protested.

Kagura rolled her eyes. "Oh please, he was only a weapon for you guys to use. You know when I was scrying, I head some interesting things that came out of your mouth when you're asleep, little brat. 'Inuyasha's nothing more than a good maid for Kagome.' Your words, not mine."

"You stupid lady!" Shippo cursed.

Again, she rolled her eyes. "Looks like mommy Kagome didn't spank you enough kid. I'll be the one to do it so I can teach you some discipline." She blasted Kagome away with her fan and then grabbed Shippo and turned him into a position where his butt is sticking out.

SPANK! SPANK! SPANK! SPANK!

Shippo whimpered from the spanks but Kagura wasn't done as she fanned a whirlwind and threw Shippo in it. After dancing with it, she blew Shippo to a nearby tree. Knocking him out.

Sango had her hands full fighting multiple demon clones at the same time. The skill of those clones kept her in her toes and it was only thanks to her giant boomerang, Kilala, and her skills in demon slaying that allowed her to even the odds against them. Still, she knew that these clones are not like the usual demons she fought and took great care not to underestimate them.

Inuyasha fought both Miroku and Koga at the same time. Koga charged at him but Inuyasha easily grabbed him in the throat, punched him in the face and threw him to a nearby tree. He charged at Miroku and the monk was forced to use his staff as a shield. Inuyasha slowly but surely pushed Miroku to another tree while glaring down at him.

"Do you take me for a fool is that it, Miroku!? You think because I'm such an idiot that I'd be stupid enough to fall in one of your traps!?" Inuyasha shouted.

"No! This is not a trap, but a misunderstanding..." Miroku protested.

"Misunderstanding!? Your precious wolf attacked me and Kikyo at the same time! I bet he's trying to go for a bit of glory by avenging his dead clan and attacking us which we are not responsible for!" Inuyasha yelled.

"Inuyasha, I'm.." Miroku tried to say but Inuyasha kneed him in the groin causing him to make a breathless gasp.

"Enough! Enough of your lies! I'm ending this here and now!" Inuyasha said as he lifted Miroku and threw him into Koga.

He shouted at Kagura and Kikyo. "Girls, we have what we came for! We're leaving!"

The clones rushed to obey and fell back onto Kagura's feather. Kagome however was fighting Kikyo.

"Why!? Why did you turn Inuyasha against me!?" Kagome demanded, readying her arrow against Kikyo's.

"You did that yourself. I blame myself for hating him needlessly and Inuyasha isn't perfect but I have changed my mind and choose to be faithful to him. Something you should have done." Kikyo fired back as she released an arrow at Kagome and the latter doing the same. Both arrows hit each other harmlessly.

"I am faithful to Koga! I only see Inuyasha as a friend!" Kagome protested but it was a weak argument and Kikyo knew that.

"And that's exactly why I saw Inuyasha broken and defeated when I met him. You weren't there to see him crying himself to sleep that night. How can I provide comfort to someone who has seen another who he's promised to go with another behind his back?" Kikyo retorted while firing arrows at Kagome.

"I don't know! You're Inuyasha's past love so you should know how to comfort him or something." Kagome said, evading Kikyo's arrows while readying hers.

Kikyo scoffed. "This. Coming from the girl who wanted to know why I 'turned' Inuyasha against her."

"Watch yourself Kikyo..." Kagome threatened, aiming for her head.

Kikyo shot back. "Or what? You're going to pretend that I'm Naraku and beat me to an inch of my life? Kagura's words about you being my carbon copy are true. Maybe you inherited some of my negative traits that I unknowingly passed on."

Kagome was but a second away in exploding.

Kikyo aimed for the kill. "You blame me for Inuyasha leaving but you burned that bridge on your own. You chose to be marked by that one named Koga behind his back and that broke Inuyasha's heart. You didn't remain faithful to him and that's why he left." Kikyo smirked. "No wonder Inuyasha chose me over you."

Kagome exploded. Letting out a flurry of words so modern, half of what she said, Kikyo didn't recognize. Although Kikyo wasn't a sadist, she took slight pleasure seeing her reincarnation explode like that.

Still, she heard her love's call to retreat and said to Kagome. "We're leaving Kagome. I hope you realize that your actions drove the man I love to fall to my arms."

Kagome replied breathlessly. "Maybe I could speak to him. Clear things up between us."

"Perhaps, but don't expect a warm welcome." Kikyo left after that.

Kagome looked at her teammates. Miroku is staggering while holding his groin. It seems that Koga had a splitting headache while Sango and Kilala were bruised and bloodied bad but can still fight. Shippo was rubbing his butt which looked reddish from all the sparking.

"Well guys, we failed and I believe that we have lost Inuyasha for good as an ally." Miroku said then glared at Koga. "And because of you, Inuyasha believes that we are the enemy and he might attack us out of fear that we might hurt Kikyo."

Koga tried to say something in his defense but failed.

Kagome sighed and said. "Let's go back to Kaede's and rest. We've been beaten badly by Inuyasha and his allies." Nobody opposed her statement.

Inuyasha, Kikyo, Kagura and the demon clones came back to Sesshomaru and Karanu who said. "I thank you for bringing me that heart and I apologize for having to make you deal with your former allies in such a harsh manner."

Inuyasha replied. "Not your fault. It was more of Koga's as he attacked us first."

Karanu announced. "I am willing to commence the third stage of the plan but I'm sure you need rest. If you are ready, come talk to me."

Everyone nodded and took the day of rest.

Sesshomaru said to Karanu. "If you wouldn't mind, I'll lead an army of your demon clones and attack Naraku's base at the southern part of the world."

"Very well, Sesshomaru. Please bring Kanna with you as you can use her for communication." Karanu requested and Sesshomaru nodded as he gestured Kanna to come with him while rubbing Rin in the head as a farewell gesture.

Sesshomaru and Kanna returned and Sesshomaru tossed a scroll at Karanu's makeshift desk. "I have found this scroll while invading Naraku's base. One of the demon servants dropped it when they fell back. Since I don't recognize the seal, I decided to give it to you."

Karanu took it and read it. "Sesshomaru, you have found me the schematics of a clone hatchery. With this, I can breed new clones faster. It wouldn't be as massive as the one you destroyed but you get what you waited for."

"Very well, Karanu." Sesshomaru replied. "I ask that you create more clones as my army took some serious casualties fighting Naraku." He left when Karanu nodded.

(With Kagome and friends)

The jewel shard hunters group stayed at Kaede's while she tended to their wounds. Kagome told the old priestess of their adventures.

"Inuyasha left the group to join with Kikyo and Sesshomaru and Kagura joined them. They saved me and took down that dragon demon without much effort."

Miroku grunted. "Our injuries wouldn't have happened had you not attacked Inuyasha Koga." He glared at the wolf.

"Oh come on guys! I helped you! I was just resting then I smelled Inuyasha's scent and he was in a position where you could take him down!" Koga protested.

Miroku fired back. "What you saw was me trying to convince Inuyasha to come back to us. Because of your actions, Inuyasha believes that I -that we- are his enemy. That my word can't be trusted and he'll attack us under suspicion that we would hurt Kikyo." Koga kept his mouth shut.

Kaede asked. "You said that Inuyasha and his brother are allies now? I thought that they are enemies?"

"We thought that too." Shippo said, having to lie on his belly due to the spanking.

"I am impressed by Inuyasha's strength though. It took him only a second to kill that dragon demon while it took us a good hour to take it down." Sango commented.

Kaede inquired. "If Inuyasha's strength is as good as you say then it's because that rosary is removed. Tell me, did he take any innocent lives?"

Shippo thought it and replied. "Not that we know of. From what we hear from that one village, he and Kikyo helped them out."

Kaede made a sigh of relief. "As long as he didn't take any innocent lives, we'll leave him be."

Kagome on the other hand was wondering..she didn't notice that Inuyasha didn't have the rosary and Kikyo didn't reveal. She made a mental note to check whether it is still there to confirm Kaede's words.

(With Inuyasha and Kikyo)

The two walked towards another village on the request of Karanu to deal with Tsubaki. He had sent Kanna to scout the area in advance. They stopped a distance from the gates where Kanna appeared and reported. "Master Inuyasha, Mistesss Kikyo. I scout the area and it seems that Tsubaki has stolen a good number of clones from Naraku. The numbers are very small but they are always active. Also maybe it's nothing but I am not detecting any spiritual powers from Tsubaki who has the head of an ogre. I don't know what that means but I think it's worth mentioning."

Kikyo said. "I will go in and let myself be captured by Tsubaki. You will sneak in and kill the surrounding guards. I trust you to come find me and kill Tsubaki while she is focused on me."

Inuyasha took a breath, he didn't want to see his love hurt but she hasn't misled him yet. "All right, I'll do it. I hope you know what you're doing."

"That is my hope as well. Knowing Tsubaki, she would prefer to see my pride - or my lack of it - broken and seeing herself as the superior priestess." Kikyo replied as she took off her bow and quiver and handed them to him.

She walked towards gates alone and saw two guards ran to her. She spotted Tsubaki among them. A nod from her and one of the guards hit Kikyo in the back forcing her to kneel.

Tsubaki smirked under her ogre face. "At long last, my longtime rival finally kneels before me. Now you will see which one of us is the better here. Guards, take her to my chambers! I will see this woman grovel and beg before me before sunrise."

Seeing Kikyo being dragged from a distance, Inuyasha threw a nearby rock that distracted one of the guards. One of the went to investigate and the other died by a neck snap. That one died by a fist to the skull.

Kanna used her mirror to silently kill some of the sleeping guards while Inuyasha used Tenseiga to kill many but being careful not to raise the alarm. All in all, they killed every single demon servant of Tsubaki.

They went inside Tsubaki's home where they heard sounds.

"So you have the jewel shard is it? My scouts told me that two were in your possession. Where is it?"

"I'm afraid that I don't have it. Surely your guards searched me thoroughly."

"Yes, we did but we didn't find them. You must have hidden them somewhere, where are they?" Tsubaki's voice sounded angrier.

"I cannot tell you what I do not know." Kikyo's sounded calm, almost unnervingly so.

"LIAR! You must have it! No matter, you are here before me, bruised and dirtied not to mention defenseless. But I have unlocked the power of eternal beauty for the rest of my life."

"Yet I am seeing the face of an ugly ogre staring at me. Tell me Tsubaki, how does it feel to be betrayed by Naraku? I am not sensing any spiritual powers from you. Looks like you fell into his trap hook, line and sinker all in one. I can't say I'm surprised as we have both been deceived."

"At least I'm not dead like you!"

"And I didn't end up with an ogre for a face."

SLAP!

"Touched a nerve did I? I apologize for the rude remark but I cannot take it back now." Kikyo still spoke calmly unfazed by the slap Inuyasha guessed aimed at her.

"I am still alive and I can make you dead again Kikyo but before that, I want you to acknowledge me as the superior priestess and hand me that sacred jewel!" Tsubaki said evilly.

"To think I would have respected you as an equal, but you see me as a rival." Kikyo mused, voice soft.

Inuyasha saw two shadows where one held the other in the chin.

"I became a dark priestess and my power has waxed while yours have waned. And when you die, I'll bring your bow to Naraku as proof. He'll give me his blessing and I will have my beauty back!"

"Naraku doesn't see the value in you. You have lost your powers and please try calling your guards to protect you." Kikyo said gently.

"Guards! Guards!" Tsubaki called out but five minutes later, nobody came.

"You! You must have slipped something to kill my guards! What is it!?" Inuyasha sensed the grip on Kikyo's chin tightening.

"I'm afraid I have no idea what you're talking about. I am here at your mercy and completely unarmed." Kikyo said, the gentleness in her voice didn't change.

"Then who?! Tell me who!" Tsubaki said as her patience was wearing thin.

"Guess." Kikyo said.

"Don't forced me to guess! Maybe I could start by draining your powers against you." The hand on Kikyo's chin grabbed her throat.

"I'm afraid I brought no one with me when I arrived."

"My patience is over and you WILL submit to me Kikyo! And I will kill your reincarnation next because she looks like you!"

"Her name is Kagome and she doesn't want to be compared to me." Kikyo said and Tsubaki's other hand cocked to a fist.

Inuyasha saw the one shadow hitting another and Kanna worriedly said. "Master Inuyasha, we must save Mistress Kikyo and get some material out of Tsubaki."

"Yeah, I know. Wait here Kanna." Inuyasha said.

Inuyasha entered the room where Kikyo and Tsubaki are and frowned at the sight. He saw Tsubaki beating Kikyo senseless. Luckily for him, Tsubaki didn't sense him at all.

Tsubaki growled. "I know you loved a half-demon named Inuyasha. He isn't here to save you and he must have died fighting my guards. You have chosen poorly Kikyo."

Kikyo smiled despite the bruises. "On the contrary, he is here with us." She looked behind Tsubaki. "Isn't that right..Inuyasha."

Before Tsubaki could even turn around, Inuyasha beheaded her instantly. He picked up her head and looked at Kikyo. "Are you okay?"

"Nothing beyond a slap and some punches Inuyasha. Thank you." Kikyo smiled at him. Inuyasha helped her up.

"Uh huh. Now that I've gotten Tsubaki's head, let's go back to Karanu."

"I'd like to rest in my sister's village if that is alright with you Inuyasha." Kikyo requested.

Inuyasha didn't hesitate to reply. "Sure. Karanu can wait."

So Inuyasha, Kikyo and Kanna left the village. Inuyasha ordered Kanna to take the head of Tsubaki to Karanu which she obeyed.

Kanna delivered the head to Karanu where he commented. "Huh..I had hoped for blood samples but I know it wasn't Inuyasha's fault. This will have to do." He thanked Kanna and worked on the head.

(With Inuyasha and Kikyo)

"Kikyo! It's good to meet you after all this time!" Kaede greeted her sister.

"Indeed. Perhaps too long." Kikyo replied.

"Kagome's group told me about what you two had done. Is it true you have Inuyasha's brother and Kagura as your allies?" Kaede inquired.

"Yes. We've been concocting a plan on defeating Naraku and gathered certain ingredients to forward this plan."

Kaede frowned in concern as she noted the slap and the bruise marks on Kikyo as she asked. "Who did this to you?"

Inuyasha answered bluntly. "A dark priestess named Tsubaki. Already killed her."

Kaede stated. "I see. Well spare me the details. Come sister, I will mend any wounds you have." She let them enter her hut.

Kaede healed Kikyo's injuries and the two went outside. Kikyo had to leave Inuyasha's side to collect souls then returned soon after. They walked around Kaede's village holding hand to hand. Inuyasha heard the whispers some of the villagers were talking about them but he didn't care. He is confident that with Kikyo by his side, they won't try to attack him or anything.

On the outskirts of Kaede's village, Inuyasha and Kikyo sat together under a tree. They relished this chance to be together. Inuyasha enjoyed how the wind would blow the beautiful young woman's black hair. As for Kikyo, she loved how Inuyasha radiated calmness and felt safe with him.

Their moment of quiet was interrupted when Kagome's group approached them.

"Hello Inuyasha." Kagome greeted first.

"Hey Kagome." He greeted back. She noticed from the cool look of his eyes as if he was seeing her like a stranger.

"I wanted to talk about us." Kagome said straight to the point.

He raised an eyebrow at that and gestured for her to continue. "Inuyasha, I know that you saw Koga and I to be together and I am so sorry for that. I have hurt your feelings to the extreme and I know you wanted to be away from me. I respect your decision to be with Kikyo and while I will not be your promised, I can still support you as a friend."

"Hmm...must have taken a lot of courage for your to confess." Inuyasha noted, surprised by her words. "I accept them and I'll help you if you need anything." Kagome bowed in thanks.

Kikyo leaned her head into Inuyasha's shoulders and said. "Even though you are your person, you do have positive traits that I have, perhaps I was wrong about you Kagome."

Inuyasha saw the rest of Kagome's group came and he asked bluntly. "What are you guys doing here and what do you want?"

"We want to see how you guys are doing and I can't speak for Miroku when I say that we won't force you to join us." Sango said.

Miroku added dryly. "Especially with Koga's attack on you and Kikyo."

Shippo said. "After seeing you two, I'm starting to think you and Kikyo are good for each other." He smiled.

Inuyasha rubbed Shippo's head. "Thanks kid." He turned to the rest of the group. "Nice meeting you but we have to go and meet with our ally."

Inuyasha stood up and offered a hand to Kikyo who accepted. Just as they were about to leave, he heard Koga yell out his name.

Koga stomped to him. "I want a match! You and me! We have some unfinished business!"

Inuyasha rolled his eyes but then he wanted to test his newfound strength and sighed out. "Fine."

Inuyasha summoned Tenseiga while Koga grabbed two sickles and then charged at each other. Koga hit Inuyasha's sword with his sickles multiple times preventing Inuyasha from counterattacking.

Inuyasha dodged the next attack and blocked the others. He managed to block the fifth one and called countered with a knuckle punch to the face. He pressed his attack and bashed Koga's face with the blunt part of his sword.

Koga recovered and trapped Tenseiga and disarmed Inuyasha. He tried to swing in one of his sickles but Inuyasha parried it and disarmed that sickle. He even stomped on it to prevent Koga from taking it.

Armed with only one sickle, Koga slammed the sharp tip at Inuyasha's shoulder. But the enhanced demon was undeterred and slapped the offending arm away and removed the sickle from his shoulder and destroyed it. Koga backing away a bit.

Koga charged at Inuyasha with and tried to overpower him but despite the jewel shards on his legs providing him a boost, Inuyasha slowly pushed him to a nearby lake and head butted him hard while using the other hand to the lake in order to drown him.

Out of fear of drowning, Koga was forced to bite Inuyasha's hand to get free, which he did.

Koga decided to taunt Inuyasha. "I think I get why Kagome chose me. Because she preferred a full wolf demon who can satisfy her better than you can. All you got is a dead woman who is a relic compared to my mate. And you're just a hotheaded guy who doesn't know how to be with a girl. Guess that explains your bad luck with the women who fell in love with." He smirked and said. "Oh wait, your mate is dead like I said and she's nothing but dirt and clay. At least my mate is pure blooded."

What he didn't know during his mocking was that Inuyasha has been silent but his killer intent was slowly growing. The only reason Koga hadn't felt it was because Inuyasha kept it contained.

Then he lashed out when Koga made fun of Kikyo one more time.

(With Sesshomaru)

Sesshomaru was rubbing Rin's head absently when he suddenly stopped.

Rin asked curiously. "What's wrong Lord Sesshomaru?"

"I sense that something has shifted in the wind. I can feel a great disturbance with someone of my blood..." Sesshomaru replied slowly as if he is feeling something very ominous.

"I'm going to guess it's about Inuyasha right?" Kagura guessed.

"If I must make an assumption, I believe that whoever the fool is, he just made a grave mistake by insulting Inuyasha's mate." Sesshomaru surmised.

Kagura nodded then stated. "I think I'll play it safe by not insulting your brother and his mate."

"An excellent proposition." Sesshomaru agreed.

Rin said sadly. "I hope this bad person doesn't hurt the nice lady or your brother Lord Sesshomaru."

(With Inuyasha)

Inuyasha used Tenseiga's power to attack Koga and it hit since the dog wasn't expecting it from his mocking.

"What the hell man!? That blast could've killed me!" Koga shouted.

Inuyasha replied, icy voice, cold stare and cracking knuckles once Tenseiga disappeared. "My point exactly."
Inuyasha didn't give Koga a chance to attack as he charged at him. Inuyasha grabbed Koga by the collar and slammed his forehead into his not once, but twice but three times.

While Koga is stunned, Inuyasha grabbed the jewel shards on his legs and pulled them out. He threw them at Kikyo who caught them.

He backed away from Koga who punched him in the face.

He made a mocking cry of pain then he made a small chuckle and said. "I didn't even feel it." He swiped the hand away and saw Koga back off.

"It's time I show you why I'm the alpha male of my clan and Kagome and you're just a weakling omega mutt!" Koga spat.

Inuyasha sighed tiredly and shook his head. "I'm not going to argue with you there. I'll let my brother do all the ranking. He knows more about dog hierarchy than I do."

He charged faster than Koga can see and punched him in the gut. He knocked Koga out by hitting him in the throat and slamming his face to the ground.

"Inuyasha! SIT BOY!" Kagome yelled.

Inuyasha flinched instinctively but he remembered that Kikyo removed the rosary and smiled.

Kagome didn't notice as she continued screeching. "Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit!"

Inuyasha looked at her and raised an eyebrow. 'Does she get this beet-faced when she does this?'

Kikyo looked at Kagome questioningly then back at Inuyasha who rolled his eyes. "Now you see what I have to put up with? Since she's your reincarnation, all you have to do is say that magic word and I'll be face down on a crater!"

Kikyo sighed. "Then it's best that I destroyed the rosary when I did."

Inuyasha nodded. "It's for the best."

When Kagome finished her rant of 'sits', she looked at Inuyasha and realized that he's still standing and not on the ground as she hoped he'd end up on.

She sputtered. "What..the rosary...how?"

Inuyasha sniped. "Who do you think?" His head cocked to Kikyo.

Kagome turned to Kikyo who looked calm. "Do you realize what you've done!?"

"I do. I released a loyal dog from his collar and leash. Perhaps you're scared now that this collar and leash is removed and now more." Kikyo said, unrepentant.

"Without the rosary, how am I supposed to keep him from lashing out? Besides, it's just your fault as you created the rosary and place it on him. I merely used it. You of all people should know that demons like him should be controlled so that they won't harm innocent lives." Kagome ranted to Kikyo.

Slowly and with a cold aura, Kikyo walked to Kagome and crossing her personal space. Kagome backed away until she got cornered to a tree. "I admit that I created that rosary and placed it on Inuyasha but I can readily admit that I'm ashamed to have created it. HOWEVER I was also the one who removed it. By your words, you mean you won't allow Inuyasha to be his true self. You want to make sure he is restrained and won't allow him to express himself except in the way YOU want it. I would rather see him free and powerful than weak and submissive to a person who doesn't appreciate him for who he is."

Kagome felt her heart turning to ice. Kikyo's calm, dangerously soft tone made her terrifying. In all honesty, she would feel better having to hear Inuyasha yell at her than Kikyo talking like she's choosing which punishment to dish out on her.

Still she tried to be defiant. "If Inuyasha suddenly goes rogue or turns on you, you'll only have yourself to blame for letting him loose. At least when he's with me, I can easily keep him in line with a simple sit."

Kikyo placed a hand on Kagome shoulder and asked gently. "What makes you think that you have the right to control his life? To decide where he walks or think he has to answer to you as if he were nothing but a tool?" Kagome didn't answer, not that Kikyo would expect she would.

Kikyo said. "Inuyasha has his strength back and now I believe that he is on par with Sesshomaru in terms of power. I believe in Inuyasha and I do not wish any harm on him. I also have faith in him enough to know that he will use this power to protect me and everyone important to him."

Seeing her reincarnation look at her, Kikyo said. "I hope you reflect on my words and know that there is more than meets the eye. It took my death to take that lesson to heart." Kikyo let go of Kagome who let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in and walked to Inuyasha.

He said in admiration. "Remind me not to make you angry."

Kikyo smiled at him and made a soft pat on his cheek with her palm. "You never could Inuyasha. Let us return to Karanu and Sesshomaru and plan our next motives."

Kagome watched them leave in a dazed manner. It took Sango snapping her fingers near her face to come to her senses.

Shippo commented. "Wow. You got scolded by Kikyo of all people and you didn't fight back."

"Yeah. Honestly, I think it's better if Inuyasha was the one doing it." Kagome replied.

Sango said. "Let's go meet up with the others and travel together."

(With Inuyasha and Kikyo)

"Hello Inuyasha and Kikyo. I have received Tsubaki's head from Kanna. I was hoping for blood samples but I can make do with what you have given me." Karanu said when they meet. "For the fourth part, I'm afraid that you will not like it. I'll let Kikyo explain."

"We will need the jewel shards from Kagome. It won't be as easy as handing them over. Karanu and I will modify the jewel for an edge against Naraku." Kikyo explained.

"I will go to a nearby village with Kikyo here and assist the villagers." Karanu said before turning to Sesshomaru. "Lord Sesshomaru, you and Inuyasha will assault Naraku's newfound breeding hatchery for his new army of clones. Kagura told me that it is overseen by Kohaku and currently trying to clone more demons."

Inuyasha snapped his fingers. "If we could rescue Kohaku from Naraku's clutches, we can use this to get Kagome and her friends to give up their jewel shards to us. I know that Sango loves her brother dearly and she can push Kagome to hand the shards in exchange for her brother."

"An excellent idea Inuyasha. Please give me something so I can write the directions to that breeding cave with Lord Sesshomaru." Karanu said, Inuyasha grabbed a nearby leaf and Karanu use some kind of ink to draw a map on it with an x mark.

"Okay, what do we expect when we enter?" Inuyasha asked.

"From what Kagura has told me, it'll most likely be guarded by Naraku's demons and Kohaku obviously."

"If you wouldn't mind Karanu, Inuyasha and I will destroy this hatchery. It'll make a devastating blow against Naraku and cripple his army production." Sesshomaru suggested.

"Very well. Do what you must." Karanu replied.

Sesshomaru turned to his brother. "We are leaving." He looked at Jaken. "Jaken, guard Rin with your life. She dies on your watch, I'll take your life next."

"Y-Yes Lord Sesshomaru." Jaken stuttered.

"Let's be off!" Inuyasha said and turned to Kikyo. "Guess we'll be leaving each other but we'll come back Kikyo. Stay safe."

"I know we'll meet again Inuyasha. I will see you later." Kikyo replied, she then see Inuyasha and Sesshomaru leave.

Karanu looked at Kikyo. "I have Kagura scout out a few human villages and determined the poorest ones. I have sent out a few of my clones to rid them of demons but you and I will lead this group of Rin, Jaken and my clones to establish a base there."

"Very well." Kikyo nodded.

(With Kagome and friends)

"Well guys, we travel together again but I haven't seen Sango lately." Shippo commented while they were traveling.

"She told me that she's going to meet with Inuyasha and will join us later. When I asked, she didn't say it outright." Miroku replied.

"When I looked at Sango, there is a slight glaze over her eyes. It is very strange but she's acting normal so I let it be." Kagome said.

Then they discovered a strange sight. Demon looking warriors working with normal humans in a nearby village.

"Demons..with humans!? By Buddha, this is an ill omen! Why have they done this?" Miroku asked in shock.

"When have other races other than us be working with demons if not for power and subjection?" Kagome asked in a rather sagely fashion.

Shippo exclaimed. "We're not strong enough and there aren't enough of us to free that village from those demons clutches! We've got to tell Kaede about this now!"

Suddenly a pack of wolves led by Koga attacked the village and killed the demon guards while the villagers flee from the village.

"Hey guys! I got together a new pack and thought that you need help taking out those clones!" Koga greeted while the rest entered the now deserted village.

"My gratitude to you Koga. But I can sense a dark presence as we are walking this village." Miroku said.

They entered halfway where they found a heavily guarded outpost and big hut on what appears to be some sort of hall.

"Although I enjoy a fight as much as the next alpha, this one could prove difficult." Koga mused.

"It turns out a dark priestess is controlling it. I surmise that if we kill her, the group will disperse." Miroku mused.

"I'll do it. I'm small and they won't notice me." Shippo volunteered as he skipped away.

Shippo hid himself in a bush then slowly crawled to the priestess left of the guards. He used his power to turn himself on fire and charged at her. The priestess exploded instantaneously while her guards fled.

The remaining guards in the outpost died soon after.

"Nice work Shippo. Those guards died after you took out that priestess." Kagome praised.

"Thanks and you should know she was channeling her powers to a jewel shard. Keep it." Shippo beamed at her and gave the shard to her.

Suddenly, they were knocked down by a gust of wind. Kagura appeared along with two demon clones. "What are you guys doing here?" She demanded.

"We are rescuing these villages from your vile clutches." Miroku shot back.

"Rescuing? Did you look around? We were PROTECTING them! You didn't notice that the villages fled after you killed those clones and that priestess you killed was monitoring the village by controlling those clones. So I offer you a choice: you leave and I will keep this matter to myself or fight." Kagura fired back.

"How about I shove my fist to that face of yours?" Koga threatened.

"Last warning mutt. Depart!" Kagura sneered.

"Step of out of our way, Naraku's incarnation! Or I will end you here and now!" Koga snarled.

Kagura rolled her eyes. "Typical. Your type thinks the world revolves around you. Well, you can say in your world Kagome that this place is off limits to you."

And so the group fought against Kagura and her bodyguards. Needless to say, while Kagura was distracted by Koga, Kagome fired a holy arrow at her back, causing her to hiss in pain. Realizing that she cannot win, she fanned them back and rid on her feather shouting. "This is not over!" She fled from the deserted village, leaving her bodyguards to be taken down by Miroku and Shippo.

The four travelers walked yet another village. But this time Kagome tells Shippo. "I think you should stay back a bit while we travel onward. This one has a lot of villagers and demons in it."

"And if you don't come back?" Shippo asked.

Koga answered. "You let us worry about that kid."

Leaving Shippo behind, the three travelers entered the village. Lucky for them, the guards didn't attack them. They stopped walking when they noticed Kagura and a man who looked a little like Naraku except for the brown robe and tentacles for arms and legs along with Kagura. He warmly greeted them. "Hail! Jewel shard hunters!"

Miroku inquired. "You're the leader of these demons?"

"Indeed, I am Karanu. Creator and leader of these demon clones you are seeing. Although you attacked us without cause, our mission is one in the same."

Miroku asked further. "You mean defeating Naraku and finding the jewel shards?" Karanu nodded.

"Ever since I have been taken into Naraku's service, I have sought to use unconventional means to defeat him. I hope to enlist Kagura's and Inuyasha's aid for my cause and build an army to counter Naraku's."

Miroku inquired suspiciously. "So you believe that these demons can be controlled?"

"Yes. Rest assured, they are totally obedient and will follow any order I or any other demon lord set upon them. One reason they did not attack you on sight when you arrive here is that I have foreseen your arrival and make sure you are welcomed." Karanu explained.

Suddenly Kagura chimed in. "These cretins just barged into one of our villages, slaughtered a number of your clones and they cannot be persuaded. One of them is the leader of a pack Naraku had killed and the kid from outside of the village is a fox. The monk is lecherous with wandering hands and let's not forget the carbon copy. Why are you even bothering to use diplomacy Karanu?"

Karanu looked at Kagura beside him and replied. "Because Kagura what you see a threat and judging of appearance, I see a potential ally." He added in a scolding tone. "My clones lie dead partly because of your lack of tact. Do not forget this."

Kagura bowed her head a little and said. "Of course, Karanu. I shall try to keep an open mind."

"These clones I and Naraku made have one weakness: their need for directive. They require a very powerful mind to give them orders and as such only myself or Lord Sesshomaru can command them." He added happily. "Imagine. We can defeat Naraku without losing a single human warrior then we'll have the clones disposed of after our goals have served. We could win."

Suddenly Jaken showed himself and greeted. "Hello travelers, you know me as Sesshomaru's servant. I and lady Kikyo are here to assist Lord Karanu for this very cause. Karanu is correct you know. Your feudal lords will have you all die fighting for honor and glory when there is an easier way. You can help save tens of human lives."

Kagura rolled her eyes. "Ah, the greedy servant arrives. You should know that during his charge of that girl Rin, he asked to oversee the cloning hatcheries in exchange for a standing among us and a large portion of our supplies so that after all of this is over and he leaves Sesshomaru's service, he would live like a god."

"It's true. Lord Sesshomaru grants me little recompense. I am but a lowly servant. But if my efforts can help his goals, who can object?" Jaken all but admitted.

Miroku said with some thought. "Perhaps, this does warrant some consideration."

Kagome added. "The villagers here can't afford an invasion. If your technique actually works, maybe I can convince Kaede and the other lords to try it."

Koga put his two cents in. "I shall take part but be warned, if any harm comes to my brethren, the retribution of my pack will be swift." He threatened.

Karanu warmly announced. "You are welcome at our village. I shall allow you to retain your weapons provided you serve us with honor."

Kagome went back a bit then picked up Shippo and told him that they are welcomed in this village.

(With Sango and Kilala)

Sango received a message in the form of Kilala to meet up with Sesshomaru for information regarding Kohaku's whereabouts as well as Naraku's. Taking of temporary leave from her companions, she took Kilala with her and traveled to a barren land where she found Sesshomaru standing there.

"I'm pleased that you received my message so I'll get to the point: your brother is in one of the hatchery caves my brother is attacking. Rest assured, he will be brought alive and safe. And I propose something that can benefit you along with some information that can be of use against Naraku." Sesshomaru said.

"Looks like you got an idea. Hit me." Sango replied.

"There are three more hatcheries not including the one my brother is attacking plus two more further away into the grasslands. The feudal lord ruling those grasslands has sufficient manpower along with the priestess Kaede that can eliminate those hatcheries. Most of the Naraku's army is aiding Kohaku against Inuyasha so those hatcheries'll be undefended. Convince the feudal lord and the priestess there and I'll handle the rest.."

Sango thought about it but some worry crept into her mind. "I'm not too sure about this. I'm not counting Naraku to have this massive army. Sorry but I think that I'm letting this one lie."

Sesshomaru crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow. "Feeling squeamish demon slayer? I thought your kind would want revenge against demons. You won't get it by sitting on your hands."

Now it's Sango's turn to cross her arms. "And I'm not getting it by undertaking a suicide mission. Sorry but it's too risky. Kaede needs to know about this. You know where to find me." Sango turned around, ride on Kilala then left.

Sesshomaru sighed irritably before scratching his hair. "I would sooner have my replacement arm removed than convince a human in this place."

Sango did tell the feudal lord there and Kaede what Sesshomaru said, even using Sesshomaru's directions to validate her words. The feudal lord agreed and Kaede volunteered to assist them in destroying the three hatcheries. Those attacks were successful and there were no casualties.

Sango ridden on Kilala as she met up with Sesshomaru. She got off of her cat and reported. "It's done."

"You have performed well demon slayer. I'll have Kagura release you from your mind control." Sesshomaru said as Kagura who is beside him snapped her fingers and suddenly Sango shook her head and looked at them as if seeing them for the first time.

"What the hell did you do to me?" Sango demanded.

"You were adamant that this was not going to happen with your cooperation." Sesshomaru pointed out.

Sango shook her head angrily. "This...this isn't right! You can't just take over my brain and use us as fodder!"

Sesshomaru countered. "It was your feudal lord's decision to make. Not yours. I did not take that away from him. I simply used you to give him information." He added heartlessly. "Rest assured that your people will die for a good cause. If left unchecked, those hatcheries destroyed can create more demons for Naraku and wreck havoc among this world."

Sango demanded. "Then get your brother or your allies to do it for you! This has nothing to do with us!"

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes. "I beg to differ but enough of this. I have urgent matters to attend to." He turned to Kagura. "You need to return to Karanu as he will need your assistance."

The three of them went their separate ways.

(With Kikyo)

Inuyasha carried an unconscious but alive Kohaku to Kikyo knowing that she can heal him plus the jewel shard on his back was a nice bonus. She did notice that there were multiple bruises and cuts which she surmised that Naraku used him as a stress ball.

"Greetings Kikyo. I am aware that you are healing Kohaku and will present him to the jewel shard hunters as per the exchange but I'm afraid I must force your hand." Sesshomaru said. "I have convinced the local feudal lord and Kaede to attack Naraku's hatcheries. We can then tell Karanu to tell his guests to join them."

To his surprise, Kikyo turned around and exclaimed. "No! You made a huge mistake! Even though he has lost his chief lieutenants, Naraku managed to employ the use of dark priestesess to control the clones and their control of them is greater and wider than ours as Kanna reported to me. Their command of the clones alone can eradicate the villagers."

Sesshomaru nodded. "I see. Then we won't be leaving as I hoped. Notwithstanding, the villagers' involvement would be put to good use."

Kikyo stood up from her position and got into Sesshomaru's face. "What vile humor is this!? We need to warn them before they are all slaughtered!"

Sesshomaru just shrugged and shook his head. "It's too late."

Kikyo backed away then gave Sesshomaru a cold glare. "For your sake, I hope you see the folly of your actions someday." She stormed off to find Sango.

Sesshomaru could only say. "Damn."

Kikyo managed to find Sango who is currently repairing her giant demon slaying boomerang while Kilala is watching and called out to her. Sango looked at her and said angrily. "You're with Sesshomaru! What the hell are you doing here!?"

"I've come to warn you that your war band needs to retreat. There is a massive army of demons heading for those hatcheries they're attacking." Kikyo said.

Sango scratched her hair in frustration and replied. "Damn it, I already talked to Kaede and the fuedal lord but it's too late, they won't stop the attack. This wouldn't had happened had Sesshomaru used that mind trick on me."

Kikyo's eyes widened at this as she muttered to herself. "Mind control!? I thought Sesshomaru knew better." She said to Sango. "I apologize for his actions but you still need to warn your feudal lord. Take this jewel shard to my sister Kaede and she'll understand."

Sango asked resentfully. "Why do you care what happens to us?"

Kikyo replied. "I am a priestess. It is my duty. Go! Quickly!"

Sango finished repairing her giant boomerang and ran with Kilala. She managed to tell Kaede of Kikyo's warning and when she showed the old priestess the jewel shard, she understood.

Meanwhile...

Naraku is in one of the mountains overseeing his hatchery when a dark priestess behind him reported.

"Lord Naraku, our situation is grim. The villagers destroyed two of our hatcheries and the half demon took away Kohaku. But our backup clones have arrived and the vast majority of the villagers have already begun retreating."

Naraku ordered. "Destroy what little human stragglers still exist. We must give them a message that this land belongs to me now."

The dark priestess answered. "Their retreat is much too timely. They must have been warned by someone."

"I doubt there's anything in my army who cares about the fate of these villagers but if you do find any proof, bring it to my attention." Naraku commanded, the priestess bowed and left.

(With Kikyo)

Kikyo walked until she saw Sesshomaru. She commented. "I sense that you've been trailing me for quite sometime."

He snorted. "Inuyasha will be irate with me if you die on my watch."

"I see that you are pragmatic Sesshomaru. For this I thank you." Kikyo said but she said sternly. "Still, I'm disappointed that you would employ such a method against the demon slayer. You know how I and your brother feel about mind control. This method is something Naraku would use and we strive not to be like him."

Sesshomaru waved it off. "Such methods can be use to achieve peace time priestess. If I have to do it again then I will gladly do so. Speaking of my brother, he wishes to see you in Karanu's village. I shall go to him and acquire more clones for my assault on Naraku's dark priestesses."

The two went their separate ways.

Inuyasha and Kikyo meet each other again. Karanu told them recent events that happened that seemed to turn the tide to their favor with the aid of Kagome and friends. He even added that Kohaku is making a speedy recovery. However he said that Kohaku is not to be revealed towards the group yet as he hopes to use Sango's younger brother as leverage. The two were sworn to secrecy.

They went to a nice prairie to the right of the village where Kikyo asked to meditate. Inuyasha was more than happy to agree.

Kikyo meditates on Karanu's progress so far...

Kagura instructing the jewel shard hunters...

(That dark priestess you killed is trying to control several demons in this area. An assault is approaching our village and we'll need to hold them off until Kanna use her mirror to help me reassert dominance of them.) Kagura.

(You take us for idiots? I want you to help us out so that..) Koga.

(Be patient Koga. We killed that priestess and the demons here are our responsibility. We'll do as you ask Kagura.) Kagome.

(Very well. The next time I have to repeat myself, there will be consequences.) Kagura again.

Kagome, Miroku and Koga secured the gates of the northern border of the village they're in. Kanna and Kagura completed their joined spiritual powers and gained control of the demons...

Kikyo saw that Kagome, Koga, Shippo, Kanna and Jaken arrive at one of Naraku's hatcheries.

She noticed that Koga led a group of demon clones to attack the dark priestess leading the hatchery. To her horror, the demon clones left Koga to fight the other demons alone. In a blaze of glory, he decided to charge straight to the dark priestess and killed her. It allowed Jaken to use some spiritual power to take control of remaining brood.

Even more damning was the fact that they are under an influence secretly by Naraku to abandon Koga when the time is right! Only Kikyo knows that and she doubted that anyone will believe her.

(I'm taking you with me you crazy witch! For my fallen pack mates!) Koga's last words..

(I sense..Koga...no...) Kagome said with sorrow.

(The clones tell me that a fit of battle rage caused Koga to stray from the front lines. He cannot be saved. I am sorry.) Kanna said with sympathy.

(Bring one of the clones here! I want to hear the full story!) Kagome demanded.

Kanna did and one clone explained everything with detail. His story doesn't exactly match what actually happened but there is no evidence to the contrary.

(I don't understand...Koga has learned not to be totally reckless during his travels with me.) Kagome.

(Remember, as a pack leader and alpha. Koga has chosen to protect others under the peril of his own. By falling under the field of battle, he has been granted the greatest virtue ever known!) Kanna said, saying more words than she said in a lifetime and vividly too.

(Indeed. I am sorry for your mate lady Kagome. But now that this brood is under our control, we can return to Karanu's village to rest.) Jaken.

She began seeing more visions but they were so intense that eventually she could barely make them out and the next thing she felt was Inuyasha's chest and his arms holding her protectively.

"Inuyasha.." Kikyo murmured.

"While you were meditating, you were frowning and suddenly got blasted back." Inuyasha explained.

"Yes, I suppose I did. I apologize for that. I will tell you what I saw." Kikyo replied then she told him about Kagome's adventures with her group eventually to Koga's death.

"But there's more. There is a growing dissent coming from both Karanu's village and Kagome's group. Kagome will eventually realized that Koga was betrayed and hold Karanu responsible and they will trap Karanu and kill him. Kagura will eventually find out about the deception and wage a war against them. She succeeded but it was a pyrrhic victory as Naraku's forces enter the village and killed plenty of villagers. But Karanu put his soul into a gem which I can use to execute the last stage of the plan but we need the jewel shards first." Kikyo said in great detail.

"So we don't have proof of Koga's death being someone else other than Karanu?" Inuyasha asked, Kikyo shook her head.

"Sadly no. I lack any hard evidence of this except that the clones accompanying Koga led him into a trap." Kikyo said.

Inuyasha asked further. "So what do we do now?"

"We will go to Sesshomaru first as he is attacking another of Naraku's hatcheries and go back to Karanu to support him." Kikyo answered.

Inuyasha helped Kikyo up then they left to go with Sesshomaru.

(With Kagome)

"Hello friends, what seems to be the problem?" Miroku asked one day in a meeting with Karanu, Kagome, Shippo, Jaken and Kagura.

"One of the priestess Mio is assigned to a slave brood yet the brood assaulted a nearby village and killed several clones guarding it as well as the nearby humans." Jaken answered.

"You really have pushed things too far this time." Kagome scowled at Karanu.

Karanu said in defense. "Such was not my intent."

"Mio herself admitted that she was not ready to control a slave demon brood. We need to maintain control, not expand it! You have foolishly.." Kagome ranted.

Karanu angrily cut her off. "Silence! Sesshomaru is attacking Naraku and I can assure you that the latter is expanding his armies as we speak. If we are to win against him, we must create more for the former!"

Miroku scoffed. "Make more demons? What delusions of grandeur have caused you to entertain such a fancy plan."

Karanu snapped. "Enough! We have the tools, we know how to use it. Now we just need to leverage it. You are all dismissed it."

Kagome, Miroku, Shippo and Jaken went into a hut where Miroku asked Kagome. "Kagome, have you reconsidered your position here?"

Kagome nodded. "I may have to. Karanu has proven to be reckless and greedy. I don't trust him with these clones. But I'm not yet ready to give up this idea yet."

Miroku said. "As I was saying all along. But there is something else you're missing." He turned to Jaken. "Jaken."

"I have spent times amongst the warriors here. By large they still mistrust you. There is still turnout amongst their ranks for this reason." Jaken explained. "I've come here because I believe their wantonness will be their downfall. You should know that they still seek revenge on you for killing their brethren back at that precious village."

He pulled out a scroll. "You were given a false story behind Koga's death. Here's the truth."

After reading it's contents, Kagome let out a yell and a burst of spiritual energy erupted from the hut, knocking everyone back.

Outside Karanu and Kagura sensed it too. "Did you feel that power surge?" Kagura asked.

Karanu answered. "Yes. Take a clone with you and investigate."

Inside, Kagome grabbed Jaken and slammed him to a wall while Shippo and Miroku followed. "You! How long have you known this?" She hissed.

Jane answered frantically. "By my honor, I've discovered it only recently. Yet I have concerns giving it to you for fearing of sowing further discord."

Kagome let go of Jaken and turned to Miroku. "We should never have gotten ourselves involved with these demons Miroku. You were right when you say that we should have continued on our journey."

Shippo announced. "Then it's time we take the fight to them!"

Kagome asked. "You have a plan?"

Shippo beamed at her. "Yep."

Meanwhile..

Jaken rushed to Karanu and hastily shouted. "Master Karanu! Come quick!"

"What is it, Jaken?" Karanu asked.

"Kagome, Miroku and Shippo! They have betrayed you!" Jaken reported.

"What!? Do you have proof of this?" Karanu exclaimed, shocked.

"We do not have much time! All I know is that they're heading to the outskirts of this village! They are attempting to contact Naraku! I have already alerted the other clones." Jaken lied.

"Are you appraised of their current location?" Karanu asked.

"Indeed. They should be at the gates shortly." Jaken replied and he and Karanu left to intercept them.

They met up with Kagome, Miroku and Shippo where Karanu demanded immediately. "You three! What is this? What have you done?"

"What have you done?" Kagome shot back. "Your reckless plans to assist Sesshomaru are endangering human lives. We are here to put an end to your imprudent actions."

Karanu retorted. "It is your actions that are imprudent. Soon this entire area will be swarming with my warriors."

Miroku countered. "We have taken certain precautions to prevent that from happening."

Karanu's confidence wavered when Jaken walked to side with the three.

"You too Jaken? I should have seen it coming." Karanu said in shock.

"You did great Jaken." Shippo said to Jaken. "We'll let Miroku and Kagome take over."

While Miroku is readying his sultras, Kagome sneered. "Consider this revenge. For Koga. I'm sure he'll feel much the same for you now."

Karanu crossed his tentacled arms. "I have nothing to do with his death but I was a fool to have allowed sanctuary to you and your group little girl. I welcomed you like family and this is how you repay me? It is true then what they say that monks are fanatics and hypocrites. But it means little, my place will be taken by another."

"Enough talk. It is long past time we send your soul back to hell." Miroku declared as fired his sultras at Karanu, killing him forever.

"Now that's done with, let us go back to our business. We have enough infighting for today." Kagome said as everyone agreed and walked away.

What they did not know was that a certain girl came out of hiding, picked up a brown crystal from Karanu's robes and ran.

She ran towards Kagura, Kikyo and Inuyasha and cried out. "Mistress Kikyo! Mr. Octopus is dead!"

Kagura became angry and shouted. "What!? Who did this!? Give me names, I'll splay them open with my wind powers!" Rin froze.

Inuyasha scolded her. "Kagura, stop ranting! You're scaring Rin!"

Kikyo kneeled down and asked gently. "Can you tell us who killed Mr. Octopus?"

Rin thought for a very long time then answered. "The girl with weird clothing, the monk, the fox, and...Jaken." She answered the last part hesitantly but she was accurate in her discovery.

Inuyasha frowned and scratched his hair. "Kagome, Miroku, Shippo and Jaken. Turns out your visions come true Kikyo."

Kikyo sighed as she looked at Inuyasha. "Times like this are moments where I hate that everything is just as I have foreseen."

She felt something and looked at Rin. "Child, where did you get that brown crystal?"

Rin answered. "From Mr. Octopus' robes."

Kikyo gently tells her. "Please give to me, my child. You did great bringing this. Thank you." Rin handed the crystal over to her.

Inuyasha asked. "What's that?"

"I know what this is for." Kikyo replied as she stood up. "Karanu's soul sealed within. He intended to use his own soul to corrupt the sacred jewel and give you a fighting edge against Naraku. Since he's dead, it's up to me. That is why we needed the jewel shards Kagome possesses."

"We still have Kohaku. With him around, we can easily convince Sango to side with us and use them both to get Kagome to hand them over." Inuyasha pointed out.

"If you three excuse me, I'll just go and avenge Karanu's death." Kagura said and Inuyasha watched her storm away.

"We'll go to Sesshomaru and assist him again. If my vision is correct, Kagura will use all of Karanu's clones to wage war against Kagome and her friends." Kikyo explained.

"Mhm." Inuyasha replied as he, Kikyo and Rin left.

They met up with Sesshomaru where he said. "I have been besieging Naraku for days but it doesn't seem like I'm making a dent anywhere. I hope that Karanu can provide me with reinforcements."

"I'm afraid to tell you that Karanu is dead. Slain through treachery." Kikyo sadly said.

"Damn. I'm assuming that the knowledge to create more demon clones is lost upon his death and none of us have the knowledge." Sesshomaru said, a little fuming that there is no way to replenish his army's numbers.

"We can ask Sango to back us up. We have Kohaku so she'll accept. I know she's a great fighter and Kilala is helpful too." Inuyasha suggested.

"Very well. We'll take your suggestion brother as my numbers have drained from the last attack." Sesshomaru agreed.

They found Sango who has been traveling alone with Kilala.

"Hey Sango. We have your brother." Inuyasha said without preamble and showed Kohaku.

"Sis?" Kohaku asked.

Sango's eyes widened as she walked closer to her brother and touching him, hoping that it isn't an illusion or something. She finally said. "You're alive."

"Yes, I've been recovering under lady Kikyo's care for quite sometime. I've been under Naraku's control but Inuyasha here freed me." Kohaku explained.

Sango walked to Inuyasha and kissed him on the cheek, making Kikyo slightly jealous. "Thank you Inuyasha."

"You're most welcome." Inuyasha replied.

Sesshomaru requested. "Now that we delivered your brother to you, perhaps you can repay the favor by joining us?"

Sango glared at him. "Last time, I 'joined' you, you had Kagura mind controlled me and nearly got us all killed!"

Sesshomaru smugly replied. "But I didn't let that happen did I? After all, we are friends."

Kohaku asked skeptically. "Do you mind control all your friends and throw them into a war that you started?"

Sesshomaru shrugged. "Just the ones that I liked."

Sango said. "Since you saved my brother and you guys have been honest so far, my brother, Kilala and I will help you."

(With Kagura)

Kagome, Miroku, Shippo and Jaken walked until they saw Kagura along with an army of demon clones behind her. "Greetings Kagura, how can we help-" she was cut off by Kagura's glare.

"Silence! We have discovered your treachery!" Kagura boomed and the four saw Kanna and another army behind them.

"We've been surrounded!" Shippo cried.

"Kagura, calm down. Tell us what is troubling you." Jaken said.

"Rin saw all of your actions, how you betrayed Karanu. He welcomed you to our fold with kindness and you killed him for it!" Kagura angrily answered.

"Karanu was getting reckless. He endangered all of your lives. Whatever you intend to do, stop and think about it first." Miroku pleaded, hoping to change Kagura's mind.

To his dismay, Kagura's mind is made up. "I have. I have decided that you will die in the same area you murdered Karanu! All clones, destroy these traitors!" Kagura shouted.

Shippo used his fox fire to create dust. When it faded, the three disappeared and Jaken was left. He tried to plea. "No! Please! I can still be of-" he didn't finish as a spear impaled him in the front.

Kagura has marshaled the full strengths of the demon clones and recalled the true demons from other villages. To her annoyance, Kanna informed her that Kagome and the others actually managed to steal the other clones from under her grasp. But she actually managed to prevail against Kagome and her friends and destroyed the renegade clones.

"We have destroyed the last of their defenses! Finish them off my servants!" Kagura yelled out as she and her forces destroyed the fifth and final renegade village.

However, Kanna appeared and said. "Kagura, I am seeing another wave of demons approaching."

"What is this?" Kagura looked at Kanna and then at the army. "Naraku! Damn! I did not expect him to return so soon."

Meanwhile with Kagome..

"Naraku's forces are advancing. Given our defeat here, our only option is to fall back to our last serviceable village." Kagome declared seeing Miroku, Shippo and what few clones they have with them and the remnants of Koga's pack.

"I'm starting to regret insulting and threatening Inuyasha when I did. If we don't ask him for help, we will all be vanquished." Miroku said in a moment of clarity.

"This isn't looking good. Naraku will tear every human village to find us. Rats!" Shippo said as he gulped.

(With Inuyasha)

Inuyasha and his allies are currently resting in a forest following a successful attack in Naraku's hatchery and killed the priestess maintaining it. As Inuyasha told his brother, Sango, Kilala and Kohaku did prove their worth in kills. Sesshomaru's army suffered no casualties.

Kikyo said. "Now that we have two demon slayers and one cat demon on our side, we can easily attack Naraku's demons besieging Kagura's clones. However I also witness a vision where Naraku will attack Kagome's base where the group is making their final stand."

Sesshomaru declared. "We wait for Naraku's army to thin out fighting the clones, hopefully Kagura and Kanna will eliminate as many as they can."

Inuyasha called out. "Hey guys! Kagura and Kanna are here!"

Everyone saw Kagura's feather crash landing with Kagura and Kanna being thrown to the ground unceremoniously.

Kanna spoke out as Kagura was unconscious. "Master Inuyasha, we tried our best but Naraku easily stomped us like ants. Our armies held out to the end but they only delayed our defeat for me and Kagura to fall back. From what I saw while we fled, the army is ready to move to Kagome's village in any second." Then she lost consciousness.

Sesshomaru declared again. "Inuyasha, Sango, you both are with me. Kikyo and Kohaku, you both will tend to Kagura and Kanna."

Everyone agreed and split up. Sesshomaru left a quarter of his army for Kikyo and Kohaku while he took the majority of it with him.

(With Kagome)

All of the clones, Shippo, nearby villagers and what's left of Koga's pack are armed and ready to defend this last defensible stronghold.

"Warriors! Organize to defend the breach! Ruination comes to claim our souls but we shall not go quietly! For the human race!" Miroku shouted in an inspirational tone to indicate their final stand.

"For the human race!" Kagome also shouted.

Hordes of demons descended upon the stronghold. The first three waves were repelled easily but the next five, they were hard pressed to push Naraku back. Eight waves later, they did force Naraku to temporarily retreat but the cost has been too high. The houses were destroyed, casualties were massive and the defenses and walls broken.

"Naraku's army has come back! We're not going to survive this wave!" Shippo reported and it plummeted what little morale the defenders have left.

And indeed, they couldn't survive this last attack. It was way bigger than your eyes can see and with their dwindling numbers, they wouldn't be able to stand against them. They couldn't flee on account that the next village stretches for miles.

The defenders of the last village threw everything they had at Naraku's forces. The entrance been breached and the protectors killed.

Miroku fired sultras at every demon around when he suddenly got knocked down by a bull like demon. He tried to raise his staff to shoot it but it turns out a blade hit its back and slice it in half.

Miroku's eyes widened at the sight. "Sango?"

She didn't answer. She also took out three more demons with her boomerang.

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru used their swords' powers to kill a massive number of demons.

Kagome froze at this and stared at them. Shippo asked. "Sesshomaru and Inuyasha...working together?"

Naraku oversaw the battle from afar and cursed. "Damn those two! Victory was nearly in my grasp! All forces, retreat!" He knew that with both Sesshomaru and Inuyasha present. They can kill scores of demons by themselves.

All the demons fell back from the destroyed village.

Kagome got out of her shock to say. "Inuyasha...Sesshomaru...Thank you."

To her greater shock Sesshomaru coldly responded. "You seem to think that we have won this battle for you little girl. The reality is much different."

Suddenly, demon clones appeared out of nowhere and captured the remaining defenders. Miroku tried to get up but Sango put her foot into his chest, pinning down. Kilala lunged on Shippo and placed her paw on his throat.

"What's happening?" Kagome asked, surprised by this betrayal.

"I am giving out an ultimatum: surrender the jewel shards from your possession and we will let you all leave with your lives." Sesshomaru said without preamble.

Kagome hesitated and saw her forces being taken hostage at spear and sword point. Sango and Kilala also preventing Miroku and Shippo from escaping.

Miroku looked at Sango and asked. "Why did you do this? Why go with them?"

Sango answered bluntly. "They rescued Kohaku and brought him to me. They have been taking the fight to Naraku while you two were fighting Kagura. That's fine by me." Before he could speak, Sango added. "I won't hesitate to kill you if Kagome refuses. So for yours and Shippo's sake, tell Kagome to hand the shards over."

Seeing as none of Sesshomaru's allies were joking, Miroku tells Kagome in a defeated tone. "Give it to him."

Seeing Kagome look at him, he repeated in a stronger voice. "Now!"

Kagome pulled out a bag containing and handed it to Sesshomaru. "Good." He said before inspecting the bag. "These are the actual jewel shards. You've proven your worth and I'm as good as my word, release the hostages."

The demon clones let the defenders go. Sango lifted her foot off of Miroku's chest while Kilala got off of Shippo.

Inuyasha declared. "We got what we came for brother. We'll leave these guys in peace and go back to Kikyo."

"Indeed. Everybody, withdraw to our camp." Sesshomaru replied as they left the destroyed village behind.

Kagome watched Sesshomaru who holds the jewel shards with Inuyasha and Sango accompanying him. Miroku placed a hand on her shoulder for comfort. "You didn't have a choice. They had us outnumbered and if you didn't do what you did, we would've died."

Kagome nodded and said. "Let's go back to Kaede's to rest." Miroku only nodded and told Shippo and the survivors the same thing.

(With Inuyasha)

When Inuyasha, Sesshomaru, Sango and Kilala arrived back at their camp, they found Kikyo waiting expectant for them.

"Here's the rest of the jewel shards." Inuyasha said, holding out the bag.

"Excellent. Hand it over and I'll begin the final stage of the Closing Plan. Talk to me tomorrow Inuyasha, in private." Kikyo took them then left the camp for a secluded place.

The next day, Inuyasha went to Kikyo who is holding the completed sacred jewel as well as the brown crystal. She asked Inuyasha. "Inuyasha, what I'm going to tell you is of utmost importance. Are you ready for this? We won't be speaking again when you do."

"I'm ready."

"Then hear me, and hear me well." Kikyo said, eyes and voice turning deadly serious. "Naraku will have what he seeks but it will be his undoing at his hands. I will turn infect the sacred jewel shard with Karanu's soul giving you the edge you need against Naraku. Thus is the final part of the Closing Plan. Karanu had hoped to do this himself that's why he told me in private so I can do it in his place. The infected jewel will protect you from Naraku's powers and when released, will destroy anything in its path. How you use it is up to you, what matters is that Naraku is destroyed once and for all. Once we are done talking, talk to your brother. I asked him to assist you while I sent Sango and her brother and Kagura and Kanna to perform mock attacks to drive parts of his army away. There will still be a sizable force to defend Naraku, so be careful."

Inuyasha said confidently. "I'll do it. I'm ending this thing. Once and for all."

Kikyo nodded as she transferred the contents of the brown crystal to the sacred jewel, giving it a more disgusting brown, greenish appearance. She handed it to him and said. "Then I will await your return Inuyasha. Or Naraku's."

Inuyasha took it from her and gave her a quick kiss on the lips before he left to find his brother. Rin asked her nervously. "Do you think they will come back?"

Kikyo kneeled in front of Rin and used her soul collectors to carry both her and Rin to a branch of a nearby tree and replied. "I believe they will come back Rin. They can and will end this nightmare." She kissed Rin in the forehead.

(With Inuyasha)

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru walked into the front gates of Naraku's castle and saw multiple demons charging at them. Inuyasha smirked to his brother. "Wanna have a contest of who gets the most kills?"

Sesshomaru smirked back at him. "You're on."

The two killed the demon guards with nothing but their powers and skill with the sword. It was all too easy for them, killing every body guard will looking for Naraku. Sesshomaru commented. "Looks like the diversions worked perfectly. Naraku had to divide his troops to defend from the two demon slayers and his former lieutenants, leaving him vulnerable."

They found Naraku in his throne room, sitting on his throne and he said. "So it seems my own demons couldn't keep those annoying pests in line and you two decided to march on my front door."

He waved around. "But I have prepared a welcoming committee for you. I hope to see you try and kill so many oh so mighty lord of the Western Lands and his half-breed brother."

He leaned an elbow on his throne. "But I am willing to suffer you two a fancy speech of my own. I am pursuing power so that I may become a god, people will submit their tribute to me with giant monoliths of my own gold like form. I hope to use that sacred jewel to grant me that power and my wish for unlimited power and many supporters. It's a shame I couldn't punish Karanu for his betrayal but I should thank the monk and the carbon copy for taking a page of my playbook to deal with him. I know this because it was I who manipulated the clones to abandon Koga during his time of need."

Naraku leaned on his throne. "The seeds of discord I planted, took root. I am pleased to see Kagura and the carbon copy weak from fighting each other so naturally I took advantage. I would've succeeded had you and your brother not interfered. I'm also aware that Kikyo didn't join you. I would be very happy to use her powers against her and make you watch as she dies forever. But no matter, when I'm done with you I'll go for her next. My servants! Kill these intruders and bring me their heads."

Sesshomaru and Inuyasha fought side by side together, their instincts and attacks with synergy as they killed all demons attacking them.

Inuyasha called out this brother. "That's fifty for me Sesshomaru!"

Sesshomaru retorted. "When did you learn to count? We're even!" Inuyasha only laughed.

"Lord Naraku, our forces forces have routed the demon slayers and the renegade incarnations and are ready to assist you." One demon lieutenant reported.

"Take care of these two nuisances and grab that jewel shard!" Naraku ordered.

Sesshomaru coldly declared. "When I'm finished with your underlings, I'm coming for you Naraku."

Naraku's forces surrounded the two brother but once again Inuyasha and Sesshomaru prevailed. After all, to these two, quality over quantity. One thousand times zero is still zero. A few lucky hits but nothing compared to the massive casualties Naraku's army has suffered.

"This..this wasn't the way things were supposed to turn out..." Naraku droned..wondering what went wrong until he snapped. "INUYASHA! HAND ME THAT JEWEL SHARD SO I CAN HAVE FULL CONTROL OF THIS WORLD!"

Inuyasha coolly replied. "You want control? I'll give you control." He handed the cursed jewel over to Naraku.

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at his brother asking. "What are you doing?"

"Setting up a trap." He replied.

"Finally! The jewel shard is mine at last! Bear witness Sesshomaru and Inuyasha as I turn into a god and rule this era with people's lips whispering the word: NARAKU!" Naraku declared as he used the cursed jewel but something went wrong as the jewel started shaking and convulsing. "What!? What is this!? What's happening to me! This..this isn't right! I have been tricked! Curse you Inuyasha and Karanu! I will have your heads for this!"

Sesshomaru realized that it's time and said to his brother. "We're leaving brother. This is our chance to flee before the resulting explosion buries us both."

Inuyasha answered. "Don't have to tell me twice." They both ran away as fast as they could.

"I will not be defeated! I will find you Inuyasha! Curse you all! I. Will. Not!" Those were his last words as he was being absorbed by the cursed jewel and then suddenly...

(With Kikyo)

BOOOOOOOOM!

A massive green and purple explosion enveloped the castle, completely destroying it and leaving nothing but rubble.

She looked down and had her soul collectors carry her and Rin down. She saw that everybody made it out alive. Kanna and Kagura. Sango, Kohaku and Kilala. And most importantly, her love Inuyasha and his brother Sesshomaru.

Inuyasha happily reported. "Naraku is dead."

Kikyo nodded. "I know. That massive explosion is clear proof it. So ends the Closing Plan. As for your reward.." Kikyo suddenly pulled out another sacred jewel! Completely faithful to original and not altered.

Inuyasha sputtered. "The sacred jewel, it's-"

"A copy of the original. While working to infect the original jewel, I looked at Karanu's memories. He knew how to make another sacred jewel from scratch. So I did so in his place." Kikyo gave it to Inuyasha. "It's yours. You deserved it for all you've all been through."

Holding the jewel, Inuyasha remembered Kikyo's wish: to turn human but he also wanted to have full demon blood to better protect her and be equal to his brother. He instead said to her. "I'll think about what to wish for."

Kikyo nodded in understanding. "As you wish, take all the time you need to make your wish Inuyasha." She placed a hand on his shoulder. "And no matter what you choose, I will always respect your decision."

"Let's go back to Kaede's village to rest." Inuyasha declared and Sesshomaru nodded.

"Indeed. We have earned our rest." Sesshomaru agreed.

While walking back to the village, Inuyasha asked his brother. "Hey Sesshomaru, what are the perks of being a demon?"

Sesshomaru rubbed his chin in thought. "Superhuman strength, superhuman speed, superhuman agility, reflexes, durability and stamina, enhanced senses and healing factor. Why do you ask?"

Inuyasha moved closer to his brother and whispered to his ear. "Keep this to yourself but I want to make Kikyo into a half-demon."

Sesshomaru looked surprised and turned to his brother. "A half-demon priestess is unheard of. But she's your mate in all but name so I'll keep this part to myself. I should let you know that demons also experience greater longevity than humans."

Inuyasha nodded. "That's what I was hoping you would say."

They arrived at Kaede's village where the old priestess's eyes widened at the sight of Sesshomaru, Kagura and Kanna in the group but Inuyasha and Kikyo explained everything. Kaede was relieved that Naraku is finally dead and added that Kagome, Miroku and Shippo are still resting following their near disastrous defeat in their last village.

Inuyasha sat on a log one day as he looked at the jewel shard. He did noticed that everyday saw what he was holding and looked at him expectingly.

"Sacred jewel! Hear my words and grant me the wishes I so desired." Inuyasha began and it began to glow. "I have only two wishes..."

Kagome's voice cut in. "You could use this opportunity to turn into a full human Inuyasha."

Inuyasha looked at her but didn't abide to her request. "I ask that I be made to a full fledged demon and allow me to take full control of my blood so that I will not hurt the ones I love. My second request is to turn Kikyo..." he looked at her and said. "To a half-demon."

"WHAT!?" Everyone yelled. Sesshomaru looked intrigued.

Kikyo looked stunned and approached Inuyasha. "You want me to be a half-demon like you?"

"Kikyo, I know you'd probably be upset by my choice but hear me out: I've spoken with my brother about this and I want you to live a long life, regain the old life that Naraku has taken from us. If it means that you will become like me to experience it, so be it."

Kikyo looked sad but nodded in understanding. "I see. It is your choice and I respect that. I don't want to force you to choose about what I would want but if you think this is the best, then I accept it."

The jewel shined again and Inuyasha and Kikyo become enveloped in a white light.

Inuyasha's upper body became so mature and muscular that it looked to sculpted by the gods. His violet stripes on each of his cheeks look to be of a ritual of sorts. His hair went all over his body making it look like natural armor and his face showed maturity with golden amber eyes. He stands two inches shorter than Sesshomaru.

Kikyo's hair had become a grayish silvery color as it was now a combination of both silver and black mixing together. Her hand were claws like his, while her mouth had its own set of demon dog teeth, and her feet like his...both sharp and pointy as it was clear as by the look of her sandals.

Inuyasha sighed in pleasure. "Now THAT'S much better..." he looked at Kikyo who asked him. "How do I look?"

"You still look as lovely as ever Kikyo. Maybe better too." Inuyasha replied.

"You don't need to turn me into a half-demon Inuyasha. Just a human but still I thank you." Kikyo said, kissing him on the cheek.

Inuyasha looked and saw what remained of Koga's pack approached Kagura. "Now incarnation of Naraku, give us one good reason why we shouldn't tear you apart where you stand."

Kagura crossed her arms. "I have nothing to do with your pack leader's demise. I would have even found the perpetrators if your friends have come forth honestly and openly. But instead, they betrayed me and threw away your chance for real justice. Perhaps you should behaving this discussion with those three." She waved her hand at Kagome, Miroku and Shippo.

"We won't have you dishonor lady Kagome's name when-" one of the pack said when Inuyasha's voice cut in.

"Enough of this. What do you guys plan on doing now?"

"I have grown weary of all of this. Our entire pack has been nearly abolished so we will hand lady Kagome our food then go on our separate ways." One make wolf said as if he was (not by choice) the leader. "She can do with them what she will but we shall fight for Koga never more." The entire pack left, never to be seen again.

"I always knew they were all bark and no bite. No offense Sesshomaru and Inuyasha." Kagura commented.

"None taken and they can get lost in the middle of the wilderness for all I care. They had no problem killing Rin when they invaded her village." Sesshomaru dryly remarked.

"It is of no concern. Their fate is out of our hands." Kikyo declared.

Inuyasha looked at Kagura and Kanna. "Now that Naraku is dead, what do you two plan on doing now?"

Kagura replied. "I don't think I have anywhere to go so I'll stay with Sesshomaru." Sesshomaru nodded.

"And you Kanna?" Inuyasha asked.

"I don't have any family my Lord. I think I'll stay with you." She replied.

Kikyo declared. "Then you will be our daughter." Kanna seemed extremely happy about that and hugged Inuyasha.

Sesshomaru tells his brother. "Well Inuyasha, we part ways. Since you're no longer a half-demon but a full one, I recognize you as my brother and I am ending this animosity between us." He held out a hand.

Inuyasha took it and shook it. Sesshomaru continued speaking. "You and that half-demon priestess of yours are always welcome at my castle if you ever need anything. Farewell my brother, I believe that our father will be happy now that we are on good terms with each other."

Inuyasha made a mock salute to him followed with a nod by Sesshomaru as he, Rin, and Kagura left for the Western Lands castle.

Miroku asked. "What happens now?"

Inuyasha answered. "I'll stay with you guys for a while then Kikyo and I will be gone in a few days. I'd like to spend some time with you guys and Kikyo too."

Shippo said. "Finally, some good news for a change. I am never going to be taking someone like Inuyasha for granted ever again."

Inuyasha, Kikyo and the group stayed together for eight days before they parted ways. Inuyasha made up for lost time with the former group and with Kagome though the latter wasn't pleased at all with his choice but Inuyasha couldn't care less.

(Epilogue, Western Lands castle)

Inuyasha watched as Kanna and Rin played with each other as he reminisced on the happiest day of his life.

He made his vow to Kikyo and her him with Sesshomaru, Kagura, Kanna, Rin, Kaede, Sango, Kohaku and Shippo by Sango's request being witnesses. He didn't bother inviting Kagome and Miroku saying to Kikyo that they can find out on their own.

"I am yours Kikyo."

"And you are mine Inuyasha."

"From this day until the end of our days." They both said at the same time.

Kikyo went beside him as she mused. "It's hard to believe that peace is here after so many days of fighting."

"But now it has. We have earned it and I intend to spend it with you." Inuyasha replied.

Kikyo commented. "I heard that Sesshomaru and Kagura have been a couple after spending so much time together. They did have their arguments and they would have them but their bond grows strong. Rin is happy for Sesshomaru."

"And now Sesshomaru understands what it's like to have a significant other to protect." Inuyasha mused.

Kikyo's expression turned sad as he said. "I heard from Kaede about that argument you had with Kagome Inuyasha. I am sorry."

Inuyasha waved it off. "She made her choice. I made mine."

Kikyo spoke with remorse. "Perhaps you should have stayed with her. I am but a vengeful and hated specter who wanted to kill you for something you didn't do."

Inuyasha shook his head as he looked at her. "No Kikyo, It was my decision to be with you. After all, she cheated on me so I don't feel any obligation to her. If we hadn't met or if you just killed me like you hoped you'd do, I don't know if I'd still be around. You made me want to keep on living again and you've done so much for me in the first four days we've been together than Kagome did in a month."

Kikyo's eyes widened at that as she said. "Thank you Inuyasha. That means more to me than you know."

She continued. "I remembered about the argument that one monk had with you regarding your decision to turn me into a half-demon. And he added that you just corrupted me with your tainted clutches and all that."

"Let me guess, he didn't approve what I did like Kagome?" Inuyasha guessed in an obvious tone.

"In many words, yes. He said you were being irresponsible. That demons' place is being a servant. That romance is a far-fetched concept for demons compared to humans. He even suggested/told you to end it and restore me back to my human condition prior to my death while still possible before we went deep into our relationship that leaving later would only become painful for us." Said Kikyo With Inuyasha's eyes frowned slightly.

She asked him though she knew. "What was it you told him again?"

"I told him to go to hell. I said I'm not you. I don't see every woman in my life as a sex toy or a breeding stock for the next of kin. I told him that if I pick a mate, I'll spend my days making love to her, cast all my devotion to her and make sure it stays that way until the day I die." Inuyasha said firmly, recalling it like yesterday.

Amusingly, he also recalled having seen Miroku flirt with a feudal lord's daughter and was nearly castrated when he was caught. Good thing he wasn't but was nailed with a year long ban from entering that village on penalty of death.

Kikyo nodded. "I recall how that demon slayer named Sango looked at you with admiration and respect." She said that last part with a hint of jealousy.

Inuyasha said amusingly. "Are you feeling jealous Kikyo? It's not like you to be. Plus she told me that she's planning to stay single for the rest of her life."

Kikyo mock glared at him and slapped his arm. "I'm not. Though I admit that she asked me about my...sex life."

"And what did you tell her?" Inuyasha asked curiously.

"'Skillful but understanding. Gentle but fierce. He can make my body come alive' were my words to her. You really can wear me out with your stamina Inuyasha. Had I been in my human condition, you'd have knocked me up before round two." Kikyo replied, feeling grateful that she is a half-demon or else she wouldn't enjoy their lovemaking like she hoped she would.

"Shippo has been staying with Kaede now that Kagome's leaving this era. Turns out that she's never coming back here now that she lost her powers." Inuyasha said flatly.

Kikyo replied. "Turns out the side effect for resurrecting me is that a piece of me is within Kagome. That's how she has her powers. Now that I'm alive and she's lost her spiritual powers, she had to leave the feudal era or else she is staying forever."

"We said our goodbyes and she blamed me for having to make her do this. I countered by saying that had she been faithful to me, you wouldn't have taken me from her. I threw her to the well quite literally." Inuyasha commented.

Kikyo said. "Just recently, I just received a message from Kaede saying that Shippo wishes to stay with you Inuyasha. I know that he likes being with my sister but he needs a father."

Inuyasha snorted. "The little brat has been coddled too much by Kagome. I've been trying to treat him like a man but Kagome's not having any of it. I remembered that Shippo has been complaining that Miroku is pissy and Kagome's angry that she can't sit me like she used to.

Kikyo added. "What Shippo needs is a firm fatherly hand. Same way you did to Rin and Kanna if they ever behave rather badly. Still, you do have fun with them. You're a good father to Kanna and a doting uncle to Rin."

Inuyasha smiled at her. "You have no idea what it means for me to hear you say that. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't have any parent figures. I'll adopt Shippo."

Kikyo nodded. "I'll tell that Kaede when I see her again."

Inuyasha went back to observing Kanna and Rin who are still playing. He looked back at Kikyo and told her. "I love you Kikyo."

"And I you Inuyasha. Till the end of time." Kikyo replaced as she embraced him and kissed.

A love rekindled. Truly.
