"What am I to you?" Eren asks her.

It was only five words. Five little words. But no, not little. In reality, little couldn't describe a question like this. These weren't little, they were big. They were huge words. They were five words that gave Mikasa anxiety. They made her temperature rise, her cheeks flush from embarrassment, shock, and anticipation. Worst of all they made her think about things she's already thought about and had forgotten. Or at least tried to forget.

She was fully aware of her feelings for him. They were something she could never forget and never get rid of. They were in a war. Love was the least of their worries, so with that being said confessing was the very least thing she could think about at the moment.

The question he asked her was shocking. So shocking, she could feel herself already choking on her words.

"U-Uhm..." she begins. "You're family," she says quickly, trying to cover herself up.

He stared at her, almost looking so defeated. Guilt immediately took over inside of Mikasa. He was asking her this...so did he want her to be honest with her feelings? Did he truly want to know how she felt about him? Maybe she was overthinking things...

...but then again, what would hurt with her telling him?

Sure, maybe their life full of friendship would be ruined. He might hate her, he might never want to see nor talk to her again. But then there was a slight possibility for mutual feelings. For him to see her the same way...he was asking her this for a reason, right?

There were so many possibilities raking through her mind; good and bad, but all she could think about was being honest. She would say how she felt. Get this weight lifted off of her chest.

"W-wait Eren," she calls out. He turns around and there was no backing out of this. "I-I like you...no, I love you. You're family...b-but more significantly. That's how I feel about you,"

It was Eren's turn to blush. He had asked her this expecting the worse. He was saddened by her first answer but now that she had told him how she actually felt he didn't know what to do. He didn't know what to say. Mikasa was red in the face. She was embarrassed having gone through the struggle of confessing her feelings and here he was not knowing what to say nor what to do.

"It's okay," she immediately says. Eren looks at her, confused. "You don't owe me anything. You don't have to like me back. You don't even have to answer-" Eren grabs her wrist, pulling her close. "No..." he trails, trying to form in his head how this possibility he had dreamed about was so real. "I love you too, Mikasa," he says.

Mikasa almost wants to cry at the thought. She wasn't dreaming, was she? This was something that could only happen there yet here it was, so real. Except the fact was that they probably couldn't be together.

"Can we...Let's run away together," Mikasa says suddenly.

"What?" Eren questions.

"Let's go somewhere far from here, just me and you. Let's get away from the war and live a peaceful life for your last four years."

"W-we can't. What about Armin and everyone else?"

"What about us," Mikasa argues back. "Practically all our lives we lived in this hell. The two of us have worked hard in the survey corps. We've risked everything...this is something we both want right?" she questions. It was tempting. Eren knew that. And he wanted this. To be with her away from all of the conflict. Especially since he knew just what would happen if the two of them didn't get away.

"I want this too but-" "Then no but's Eren," she says. This was probably the most rational decision she might ever make but to be with him and experience just a bit of happiness in this cruel world, she'd do it in a heartbeat.

Eren sighs before clutching onto her hand. "Alright," he says. "Let's go," he says, walking just a bit, but his walk quickly speeds up into a run. Mikasa clutches his hand tightly, running alongside him.

"Is your stamina good?" Eren asks, flashing her a small smile.

Mikasa smirks a little. "Better than yours," she comments.

From there, they board a ship. They had zero belongings but that didn't matter. The only thing they had was money from what Kiyomi had given them, as well as their bit. They weren't sure how much money that would give them, but they couldn't care less. They would go the farthest they could.

It's almost a two-day trip. In the end, they head to another island that was much bigger than both Marley and Paradis. They find a cabin in a mountain area. It wasn't too big nor too small and just contained a kitchen, dining room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and of course a living room. If they ever need any more space they're sure they can just build it.

And thus, after furnishing their new living space, they're met with a new life.
