Perry arranged a meeting with his client Elizabeth Robbins to talk with her about papers she gave him to look over. He arranged to meet him at her office at 1:00pm on a Tuesday. He came promptly. Her office was small, and she was the only employee there. Seeing him, she got up from her desk and gave him a kiss.

"Perry Mason! Wonderful to see you again!"

"Likewise, Miss Robbins." And then, he had a good look at her. "You really are a 'nudist,' when it comes to shoes!" (She was barefooted.)

She smiled. "Sure am!"

"Well, time is money, so shall we get started?"

"Let me make a proposal: When don't we eat at Joe's? You may remember my suggesting it."

"I certainly do. That sounds good."

"And if you don't mind, I'll pay. You can deduct it from your fee if you'd like."

"That sounds ever better!"

She put her shoes on and they left.

Joe's was in the same building as her office. They were able to get a quiet booth away from the regular crowd.

"Now, about your papers—"

"Just a moment, Mr. Mason. Let's order, first; then we can talk business."

"Fair enough."

They ordered drinks—he, a whiskey sour, and she, a gin and tonic—and perused the menu. He ordered lamb chops, she a steak.

"OK, now, we can discuss the files," she said, after the waiter left.

He took out the manilla file she gave him and started looking through it. "Everything looks mostly in order, but there are a few points I think should be changed. First of all, in 1946, Harrison vs Firth established that a land deed can be contested as far as…er if…Miss Robbins?"

She had slipped her shoe off and was rubbing his leg with her foot!

She smiled coyly. "Don't mind me!"

"Anyway, the case established that a land deed can be contested if, and only if, there is some question of the legality of the particular tract of—Miss Robbins!"

She had undid the top two buttons of her dress!

"Just getting comfortable; it's a little hot in here!"

"Before we go on, there's something I think you should know, Miss Robbins."

"Please, call my Liz."

"OK, Liz. I don't deny that you're a beautiful and sexy woman. And I don't deny that I do feel an attraction to you. But there's someone else in my life, so I think we should keep our relationship to strictly business. Is that OK with you?"

She didn't answer right away. "Someone else?"

"That's right."

"It wouldn't be your pretty secretary, would it?"

"Well…"

"I kind of thought so. Well, it was worth a short!"

She buttoned her dress and put her shoes back on.

The rest of the lunch was more sedate. He went over some points and she took notes. The food came while they did this. He asked for an extra $150 for his fee, and she gave it to him. An hour later, they finished their meal.

"Well, it was fun, I'll admit!" he said.

"Yes, it was!" she agreed. "I'll contact you again, if I need you."

"I'll look forward to it. I'll walk you back to your office."

"All right."

They went back to her office. She immediately took her shoes off, behind her desk.

"Thanks for your help, Mr. Mason."

"No problem, Miss Robbins."

"And I'm sorry for the way I behaved!"

He smiled. "Well, I must admit I was sorely tempted!"

She smiled. She walked over to him and gave him a light kiss on the cheek. He left.

He returned to his office. Della greeted him. "Hi, Chief, how was the meeting?"

"Very productive. Say, Della, I have a little proposal—so to speak!"

"All right, Chief?"

"How about you and I spend another weekend at the Miller Hotel? We haven't done that in a while."

"Sounds good. I'll bring my suitcase here on Friday."

"You do that."

"And what brought this on, if you don't mind my asking?"

"You were right about Miss Robbins."

"Did she try to eat you alive?"

"She sure did!" He flashed an embarrassed smile.

"Listen to your Aunt Della!"

"I will!"
