I finally sat down to write a Rollisi story, and this is what comes out. Oh, boy. Tread lightly here, for there is major character death ahead. Enjoy.

"I would be fine if you were right here beside me!"

In the beginning, Olivia Benson wasn't sure if she would ever be able to trust Amanda Rollins entirely. There was something that she couldn't quite put a finger on, something that held her back. And that feeling only worsened when secrets were revealed about the junior detective. Those secrets nearly destroyed her career.

Then Dominick Carisi joined the squad, and Olivia saw an entirely different side of the southern woman. She recognized something in them both, something she had seen in herself and Elliot Stabler a lifetime ago.

Their connection ran deeper than partnership, deeper than friendship. It was infallible and unchanging.

At least, she thought.

Sirens blared overhead as she and Fin sped toward the 10-13 Rollins had called in mere minutes ago. Rollins and Carisi had gone to interview a potential suspect that morning. Nothing seemed amiss and Olivia had gone about her usual phone calls and paperwork that came with being the leader of her squad.

But when Fin barged into her office to tell her Rollins had called in the 10-13, her heart absolutely sank.

They finally reached the address and Olivia hopped out of the SUV, her hand instinctively pulling out her shield to show the officers already on scene. There was a bus idling by the curb and she knew either someone was being worked on inside, or someone wasn't walking out of this place. She cast a glance at Fin, whose expression told her he had the same line of thought. They walked into the townhouse, steeling themselves for whatever lie ahead.

A uni stopped them at the door, a sorrowful look on her face that made Olivia's gut twist.

"What happened?" she demanded, her fierceness startling the uni.

"From what we can tell, your people came in to talk with Devalos. Devalos pulled a gun and opened fire-"

That was all she could hear. Olivia pushed past the uni and rounded the corner. The sight that met her eyes froze her in her tracks.

Amanda was sitting on the floor, her back to the wall and her legs stretched out in front of herself.

Carisi…

She took another step, her chest tightening painfully.

Carisi was cradled in Amanda's arms, his own arms hanging limply at his sides. His head was tucked under her chin, and Amanda's gaze was hollow and unfocused as she stared ahead.

"Jesus…"

Olivia barely heard Fin as she slowly approached Amanda, her hands extended placatingly. "Amanda…?"

The blond woman blinked and shuddered, her grip on her partner tightening. "Hey, Cap…"

Finally Olivia crouched down beside them, her gaze sweeping almost desperately over Carisi. His eyes were closed and there was a smear of blood on his pallid lips. Bringing her gaze back up, she realized Amanda had a matching spot on her own lips. "Hey…" Slowly, almost cautiously, she pressed her fingers to Carisi's wrist. Futilely she hoped she would find something, anything.

She only found silence.

Carefully letting his wrist go, she tried to catch Amanda's eyes. "Amanda-"

"No." The other woman's voice was hoarse, desperate. "Please, Liv."

"He's gone," Olivia heard herself whisper. "We...we have to let the medics-"

Shaking, Amanda held her partner even tighter, freeing one hand to cradle his head. "Please." The word fell off her lips, a broken prayer. "Just...I can't let him go. Not yet."

The look on her face as she searched Olivia's eyes broke the older woman's heart. Finally Olivia moved to sit against the wall, maintaining a respectful distance from the woman who had just lost her best friend, her partner.

Letting out a shuddering breath, Amanda seemed to relax just a bit. She brushed her fingers over Carisi's messy hair and closed her eyes, a tear rolling down her cheek.

"I won't let you go, Dominick."

Wild horses couldn't drag her away.

Finis.
