AN: So this is the second time I've posted in twelve hours. Consider yourselves lucky. This will certainly never happen again.

Thanks to PhieillyDinyia once again for beta reading and giving me some ideas for this. Dankeshire!

So now it should be back to The Worst Time. I hope to aim to have it out by Sunday, but this is me. There is a chance that won't happen.

Also, I just want to say, no-one is forcing you to read it. If you disagree, then fine. If you agree, great. Read this at your own will, and don't hate just because I'm explaining why I think Kataang is better and more compatible than Zutara. If you do, then that makes you immature. I'm not 'hating' on Zutara. I'm just explaining why I think it wouldn't work. And yes, the language may oppose what I've just said, but I'm from the north of England. It's impossible to not use this languange.

Just to re-iterate, you are choosing to read this. So don't be toxic about it in the reviews. If you disagree with this, then tell me in at least a T rated way (since that's what the story is rated and so younger viewers than yourself may read this so be considerate). No-one is making you read this. Or at least, I'm not.

Why Zutara is inferior

In this essay, I am going to show that there really is no such thing as Zutara and that Kataang is superior.

Firstly, I want to start off with what I have observed on Instagram since September regarding Zutara fanart. Whenever I see a picture on Instagram that portrays Zutara drawn by a fan, the picture only ever seems to depict lust. The pictures are always sexual, which is only part off a relationship. A relationship is built on more than just lust, there is also adoration, communication and trust, as well as other things. When I see Kataang fanart, yes, I do see some lustful pictures, but I also see pictures that include other aspects like adoration, communication and trust.

I also want to address the fact that really, there are no Zutara moments in the series. One main moment in the series that is often used in argument for Zutara is when Zuko takes Azula's lightning for Katara. I truly do not think that this is Zutara. Zuko literally says "No lightning today? Afraid I'll redirect it?". This causes Azula to shoot lightning. If Zuko hadn't said this, Azula probably wouldn't have sent lightning after Katara. Zuko realised his mistake and takes responsibility for this instead of risking Katara's life. He would've done this for anyone in the Gaang, not just Katara. Also, when Azula attacks them at the Western Air Temple in The Southern Raiders and Katara was about to be crushed by the falling rocks until Zuko pushes her out the way, this is just Zuko earning her trust. Isn't that what the whole episodes about? He tries to prove to her and the others that they can depend on him to have their backs. Another moment in the show which is actually against Zutara is during the EIP episode. When the Katara and Zuko actors are in the catacombs, the Katara actress says during a conversation with the Zuko actor that "[She's] had eyes for [him] since the day [he] first captured [her]" and at this comment, Zuko and Katara (the actual ones) slide away from each other, as though they are repulsed by the idea of them being a thing.

Now, I will be referring to an article I have read (I will include the link at the bottom but I will specify the point as I get to it, so you don't have to read it).

The first point from this article I want to address is that 'Aang kept her from seeing her dad'. No, he didn't. At first, Katara even went with Sokka and Bato to find Hakoda because Aang 'betrayed them', when in actuality he was scared that they would abandon him, which is what the children from the Air Temple did to him. In the end, it was a choice that they went back to Aang. Aang didn't force them to do anything.

Another point I want to address is the fact that Aang was a 'bad dad' and favoured Tenzin over Kya and Bumi. I disagree (to a point). Aang knew from the moment Tenzin was born that he would have pressure on put on him once he himself died. Can you really blame Aang for wanting Tenzin to grow up without the burdens of being one of the only two airbenders in the world for as long as he could? Aang also probably wanted to give Tenzin a traditional Air Nomad upbringing, which includes travelling the world. And I can guess that you're thinking 'Well couldn't Aang have taken his other children with him?'. Well, if you remember, in Book two, it is revealed that Kya and Bumi would be typical older siblings and would tease and pick on Tenzin, so Aang probably wanted Tenzin to enjoy himself without being teased by Kya and Bumi. But the only reason I somewhat agree with the statement is that nothing ever stopped Aang from taking Bumi and Kya sometimes. And also - 'Tenzin was denied a childhood'? What are you prattling on about? TENZIN WENT TO RIDE ELEPHANT KOI AND MADE SAND CASTLE'S ON BEACHES! THATS BETTER THAN MY CHILDHOOD! Aang is a lot better than other fathers out there. No-one's perfect.

Also, for those of you who feel like hating on the pet name 'Sweetie', did you ever realise that they call each other that because that's what Kya (Katara's mom) would call Katara? If anything, it makes it sweeter and a whole lot better than 'babe' or whatever bullshit Zuko would've called Katara.

And what is this crap that Kataang was 'one-sided'? Like, did you see how Katara looked at Aang when he went into the avatar state in the catacombs (before he was shot with lightning)? Or when she looked when Sokka said that Aang and On Ji looked good together? Or how about when she was asked to dance with Aang? Or when they were dancing together? Or when Chong (if you don't know who this hippie is, then I suggest watching book two episode two) sang "even if you're lost you can't lose the love because it's in your heart"? (SHE BLUSHES HERE!)

Furthermore, when did Zuko and Katara ever show interest in each other? And if you suggest anything from the paragraph at the start, then reread it, seeing as though I have stated why they aren't Zutara moments.

And why do people ship Zutara because Zuko is 'more attractive'? Since when does that matter? If anything, that's just insulting. Did Aang never stand a chance, just because he isn't as good looking as Zuko? How would you feel if you loved someone and was told you couldn't be with them because they 'have another option who is hotter'? I doubt you would feel so great.

Also, for you firm believers that Aang dictated how many children he and Katara would have, I would think again if I were you. I highly doubt that Aang decided this. If they were wanting to have airbenders, then I doubt Tenzin would've been the only airbending child of theirs. Do you people forget that other factors are counted when deciding how many children a couple have? Like, are they happy with how many children they already had? Are they having another child for the right reasons? I seriously don't think that Aang would've wanted to turn Katara into an 'airbending-baby-making-machine' or however you want to put it. I firmly think that Aang (and Katara) would've wanted their children to be a product of their love, not a product of Aang being the last airbender.

And what is this about not shipping Kataang because Katara lived 20+ years without Aang? Two things: One – this happens all the time in real life and undoubtably in the Atlaverse too, and Two – this, whilst unpleasant to think about, was necessary to the plot. Katara trained Korra, and was also the person who encouraged Korra to go to Republic City. She also heals Korra after she is poisoned by the Red Lotus. And, as Kya put it, Katara was "the only one" would could help Jinora whilst she was trapped in the spirit world. So, this is necessary, and not a reason to not ship Kataang.

Moreover, why do people hate on Kataang simply because Aang is technically ninety-eight years older? Does Aang look, act or think like a one hundred and twelve-year-old man (excluding Bumi)? When Aang was in the ice-berg, he didn't witness it, and he didn't mature during those hundred years. His body is twelve-years-old and his mentality is twelve-years-old. If you truly believe that Aang shouldn't be with Katara because he is ninety-eight years older, then think about it this way. Do you expect Aang to fall in love with someone else whose one hundred and twelve-years-old? No! That's worse! At the very least, being with Katara looks acceptable, since they mentally have a two-year age gap.

Furthermore, Zuko only sees Katara as the sister he never had. Zuko cares about her opinion, he wants to be friends with her, he ends up caring about her, and she him. That's more than his actual sister. This doesn't make it romantic.

As well as that, their personalities would clash too often. They are both too hot headed and stubborn to work. They would undoubtably have more fights than most couples, and when they fight, they would be more explosive than most couples. Eventually they would have to break up before the damage becomes unfixable.

The best romantic relationships are always built on a friendship. The better the friendship, the better the couple. Katara and Aang were friends for nearly a year before they became a couple. How long were Zuko and Katara friends? Two months? Three? The fact is, Aang and Katara had a better friendship before they got together than Zuko had with Katara had at the end. Also, Katara was friends with Aang since the moment they met. How did Zuko and Katara meet? Oh yeah! When he raided her village, looking for Aang! And who broke Katara's trust in the catacombs? Zuko! How long did it take Zuko to come to his senses? About six months! They had the worst start than any friends did!

Also, it is clearly shown in season three episode fourteen – The Southern Raiders – that Aang knows her better. Zuko even admits this. "You were right" - Zuko knew he was wrong and that Aang was right, that Aang knew her better, that violence wasn't what she needed. Zuko thought she had to get revenge, but Aang knew better. He tries to talk her out of it, stopping her from doing something that she would regret for the rest of her life. Zuko doesn't. He just goes along with it.

In that episode, we also see Katara bloodbend. This isn't something she would do, as we saw from her reaction when she bloodbent Hama. Bloodbending is an inhumane action. Yet, when Katara is with Zuko, she doesn't care. Would she have bloodbent the leader of TSR if Aang was with her? No. If not because she would've been with Aang, then because he would've talked her out of it. Katara listens to Aang. She knows that he only wants what's best for her. But what does Zuko care about more? Katara's wellbeing or having her trust? Selflessness or selfishness? All that Zuko does in reaction to Katara bloodbending is go into shock. That does not help her.

Also, I just want to finally address the point that I've heard several times. 'Fire and water are opposites, and opposites attract'. No. Fire and water cancel each other. Water puts out fire, fire evaporates water. One element always overpowers the other. There is no equality. So, if anything, the fact that they're opposites makes the ship worse. Also (this is going to sound terrible and I am aware of that, but it has a point), yes. Fire and water are opposites. But we learn about opposites in physics, not chemistry.

Yes. That was trash.

Overall, I am just going to conclude with this:

Kataang is superior. Zutara is trash. If you don't understand why, then reread everything above.
