KawaBoru Week: Day One

Prompt: Soul/Body swap "This can't be happening"

Boruto stretched in the dark and cold room, tensing when he felt someone moving beside him on the mattress. This wasn't the first time he had woken up with a stranger, but he wished more than anything that it would be the last. When a hand suddenly wrapped around his dick he jumped out of bed, covering his naked body with the blanket and glaring at the blond head of hair poking out from the covers.

"Get the fuck out," He ordered and watched the smaller man pout.

"Aw, but Kawa—"

"Out," Boruto cut off, wanting the blond to leave as soon as possible. Without waiting for a reply, he made his way to the bathroom and slammed the door closed, turning on the light before staring at himself in the mirror. "You goddamn manwhore."

The reflection looking back at him wasn't his own and this was the sixth time he had woken up in this bastard's body. Kawaki . . . he was as frustrating as he was handsome. Without rhyme or reason, the two of them had begun switching bodies randomly and it had been one hell of an experience, the first few times making Boruto think he had honestly gone insane. It was hard to accept and even harder to pull off. They were so different in both personality and lifestyle, but then again he blatantly ignored the similarities they possessed, needing his irritation to help him get through the day until they switched back.

Kawaki was such a loose cannon. His penthouse was beautiful, but it was littered with clothes and empty bottles. His sink was filled with dishes and his phone was either dead or going off nonstop. The man was popular, rich, and a walking wet dream that refused to wear more than just underwear at home. Boruto might have taken a few peeks here and there, but for the most part he respected the other man's privacy. For better or for worse they were in this together and needed to work as a team rather than bickering and fighting. Sadly, that was easier said than done, especially with someone who didn't like to be told anything by anyone.

With a long sigh, Boruto turned on the water and took a quick shower before starting what had quickly become a routine. The unwanted guest was gone and he pulled back the curtains to let some sunlight in. After that he went about cleaning the penthouse, determined to make it spic and span. He had to take out the trash a couple of times and do multiple loads of laundry, but at least he was able to enjoy stocking the fridge with food, seeing it as fun instead of a chore. Boruto loved anything that had to do with food and took buying groceries very seriously. He even made a few meals for Kawaki to heat up and eat later during the week despite wishing the man would take better care of himself.

He was surrounded by all these men and had plenty of money, but even his closest friends seemed to be kept at arm's length and he refused to hire a maid. It seemed that aside from fucking, he didn't let anyone into his personal space or his home. The kinder and less of a hothead side of Boruto wanted to make things easier on him in any way that he could. He knew what it was like to pretend to be happy and honestly Kawaki wasn't all bad, he just liked to get under the blond's skin from time to time. Things had changed for Boruto in the short amount of time they had been switching bodies. Men that used to give him unwanted attention on a regular basis left him alone now. His neighbors stopped playing loud music at night and treated him with respect rather than brushing him off. Even his landlord had transformed her attitude, being more understanding and less of a bitch.

It wasn't hard to figure out what happened when his friends interrogated him about his 'mood swings'. When Kawaki was in his body, he was able to back up his words better than Boruto could ever do himself, not that he would ever admit it out loud. In a number of ways he was thankful that this whole switching thing had happened. Not everything was perfect and he caused some trouble a couple of times, but for the most part the raven had made life better for him and he wanted to do the same in turn. It was just harder on his part given the bastard was so stubborn and sometimes thought with his dick rather than his head.

Knowing they would switch back in the morning, Boruto left him a note on the kitchen counter after he ate dinner and before he went to bed for the night, knowing the other man would see it when he went to make coffee. It was a habit that they both developed halfway through their random switches and he knew a note would be waiting for him on his nightstand. Strangely enough as more time went by Boruto was less worried about solving their mysterious problem and more concerned about the day they would meet face to face. As much as he tried to remain indifferent, there was something about Kawaki that made it impossible and he couldn't get him out of his head.

.

Kawaki woke, feeling around his torso to see if he was himself or not. He never knew these days, which was just as ridiculous as it sounded. Though he was in bed with a shirt on—something he never did—Kawaki had woken up in his own body. He got out of bed and dragged himself to the bathroom for a shower.

When he went into the kitchen for something to eat, Kawaki found a note from the short blond who'd been taking over his body and cleaning his penthouse, and running off all his friends with benefits.

Stop being such a manwhore.

Rolling his eyes, Kawaki crumpled the note and sighed. As if all the changes forced on him weren't bad enough, Boruto thought he could tell Kawaki what to do and he hated that more than anything. While Kawaki lived in Tokyo, Boruto lived in a smaller city, just a bullet train ride away, yet the two of them still hadn't met.

They never knew when they would switch and were causing chaos in each other's lives due to the switching, even when it wasn't intentional. Last night, before Kawaki went to sleep while he was still in Boruto's body, he left a note with his number, telling the blond to call him threateningly. Kawaki was just chugging some milk straight out of the carton when his phone rang.

He didn't recognize the number, but he knew right away it was Boruto. "Oi, Boruto," he answered lowly.

"Oi, Kawaki," he replied in the same manner and the raven could hear the laughter in his voice.

"Asshole. Stop leaving me notes telling me what to do just cause you're not getting any."

"I don't want any from the company you keep and you shouldn't be complaining," The blond huffed. "Why the sudden desire to have an actual conversation?"

"Don't you think it's about time we try and get to the bottom of this?" It was obvious. "Anyway, I want to meet and discuss this shitfest properly."

Boruto hummed. "I suppose so. I have no idea what we're going to do, I doubt we'll find any outside help either. How do you even start solving a problem like this especially when you don't know what caused it?"

"Fuck if I know." Kawaki sighed deeply. "You're off today… I'm coming to see you, I should make it in the next few hours."

"Alright, just make sure you wear clothes like a normal human being." He teased.

"Shut up." Kawaki ended the call with a frustrated groan. He was going to give that annoying blond a piece of his mind when they finally came face to face.

Kawaki did wear clothes, simple black joggers and a green and black hoodie. The train was his quickest option, and just as he assumed, just before three hours had passed, Kawaki arrived in the small city he'd recently been becoming acquainted with. It was much different from Tokyo, and yet much the same at the same time.

After hailing a cab, Kawaki made his way to Boruto's apartment and was soon knocking on the door. A few seconds later the blond was pulling it open, dressed in a large t-shirt and shorts that were just barely poking out underneath. He stepped aside to let the raven in without delay.

And yet Kawaki didn't move.

He'd been in Boruto's body. He'd seen it all. But it was completely different standing before him like this. "You…"

"What?" Boruto asked and wiped at his mouth, afraid that he had food on his face from breakfast.

Kawaki's chest tightened at the action and he walked in, pushing past the blond. "Tch. Forget it. Is there a reason you're not wearing pants?"

"I like to keep my place warm unlike your frozen ice palace and I'm wearing shorts," Boruto said in his defense as he shut the door. "It's nice being all toasty."

"Too toasty," Kawaki muttered, taking hold of his hoodie to pull it off. He didn't intend to remove his shirt too, but it got caught in the process so he just got rid of it too.

"Already stripping." Boruto shook his head at the taller man and went ahead to the living room, quick to turn his back so he could get control over the heat in his cheeks.

"It's hot as hell in here," Kawaki said, pointing out the obvious. "I had way too many layers." He followed Boruto, thumbs playing along his waistband. "It's not like you haven't seen it all anyway…"

"True." The blond didn't bother denying the fact knowing if he tried it wouldn't get him anywhere. "But it's not like you're one to talk either." Of course he hadn't put it past the raven to take advantage and look at his body as well, but most of the time he ignored the information because it was too embarrassing.

"Please… I've barely glimpsed at anything." Kawaki shrugged his shoulders, lying easily.

Boruto didn't believe him for a second and said as much as he took a seat on the couch. "You can pretend otherwise, but we both know the truth."

Kawaki moved to sit next to him on the couch, pushing his waistband just a bit further down once he was settled. "Or maybe I forgot…"

"Sure you did." The blond rolled his eyes but a smile was tugging at his lips. "Anyway, where should we start?"

"We should track back to the first time it happened and what we did in the twenty four hours before that," Kawaki suggested.

Thinking back, Boruto couldn't remember anything out of the ordinary. "It was just a regular day for me . . . what about you?"

"For the most part, yeah, but we could not be digging deep enough."

It had all started a few weeks back and the six times they had switched didn't have a pattern. Boruto was at a loss, but he thought it over and kept trying to remember, coming up short once again. There really hadn't been anything special about that day. He had gone to work at the restaurant, cussed out a few drunkards on his way home, and dreamt about the day he would become a professional chef and own his own restaurant. Then again, that wasn't the only thing he had dreamt about that night. He recalled wishing that someday he'd fall in love with a man that would support him and treat him right. It wasn't an odd wish nor was it the first time he made it, often getting jealous at the happy couples he saw when he was on waiter duty.

"Can you think of anything?" He asked curiously.

Kawaki hummed thoughtfully before saying, "I remember the night before I had a shifty one night stand and I was pretty mad about the whole thing the whole day. Nothing of significance though…"

"So we've still got nothing." Boruto sighed and rested his chin in his hand, shaking off his passing thought. Just because he had wished to find love didn't mean anything. He and Kawaki certainly weren't a match and the raven had plenty of guys to choose from anyway.

"Unless…" Kawaki trailed off, grey eyes flitting over Boruto as he contemplated the possibility. It was cliche but also… it could be.

"Unless?" The blond repeated as his blue eyes met his gaze, wondering if the other man had really cracked the case. He was pretty smart even if he acted like a dumbass at times.

Kawaki thought there was a slim chance that Boruto was his person, but it wasn't like he was actually going to say that. "Let's fuck."

Boruto blinked a few times before his face erupted in a deep blush. "E-Excuse me?"

"I said—"

"No, no, no, no!" Boruto hushed him and put a finger up to his mouth in hopes of silencing him so he wouldn't say it again. "I know what you said, b-but . . . why do we—how did you come to that conclusion?"

"Honestly?" Kawaki didn't want his head getting swollen but it couldn't hurt too much to admit it. "You're my type. Maybe I'm yours too."

"Me? But you can't stand me. And we get on each other's nerves," Boruto pointed out without directly denying that the taller man was possibly his type maybe.

Kawaki didn't miss the lack of denial, and that was enough for him to feel comfortable making a move. He turned and grabbed the blond behind his knee, snatching him closer and onto his back while settling over him at the same time.

"Sounds like a good fuck to me. Let's find out."

Boruto's heart was pounding furiously and his voice went up a few octaves. "K-Kawaki, this doesn't make any sense! You're crazy!"

"Are you trying to kill the mood, asshole?" Kawaki glared down at him but there was no heat behind it. He really did find Boruto attractive. Beautiful even. "We're tied together for some reason… I thought maybe we could be it, but if you're not interested then there's no way."

"It?" Boruto repeated his words once again, starting to piece things together. "Wait, you mean like . . . like . . ." Was the raven really taking things that seriously? Was he truly considering him as the answer? Turning his head away and clenching his fists, he whispered the real reason for his hesitance. "But you're just going to leave after you get what you want and we're back to normal."

His words had Kawaki's chest tightening and he frowned. "Not if you're the one… Yeah, I get around, but that's because nobody's worth keeping. Maybe I've been stuck with you for a reason though."

It was a risk the blond wasn't sure if he should take, but he looked back up at him anyway, feeling vulnerable as he hoped that maybe there was something more between them after all. "You don't hate me? Even though I make you wear shirts?"

Kawaki laughed softly, shaking his head at him. "I'm not as terrible as you think… I mean, if I have to be honest… I actually kind of like you. Maybe."

Boruto's heart fluttered and he swallowed. "And my food?" He pressed, trying to distract himself from the startling confession.

"Best I've ever had… sorry for making you look like you lost your mojo or whatever at work a few times."

Now it was Boruto's turn to laugh as he remembered the embarrassing but admittingly funny mishaps his friends asked him about in the kitchen. "They still give me a hard time for apparently mixing up lettuce and cabbage."

Kawaki's whole face erupted in a blush and he averted his eyes, but there was no hiding it. "It was an honest mistake…"

"Oh, this is a sight I never thought I'd see," Boruto mused and wrapped his arms around his neck, pulling him down so he could shyly touch their foreheads together. "Okay . . . maybe you are a little cute sometimes."

"Me—cute?" Kawaki huffed. "As if. Nobody would believe you."

He was right about that. "Even still, I know it." Boruto smiled, curious as to what other sides of Kawaki he had yet to witness.

Finding himself smiling in return, Kawaki sighed, letting his forehead rest against Boruto's for a long moment before he pulled away.

"Let's not fuck…"

Multiple questions popped into the shorter man's head, but one in particular was at the forefront. "Why did you change your mind?"

Kawaki slipped his arm under Boruto and lifted him up, pulling him over to settle on his lap. "Because I'm pretty sure I'm right… so there's no reason to rush."

"You . . . you mean it?" Boruto perked up and couldn't stop his smile from widening into a bright grin. Wanting to let time pass and get to know each other properly, he wasn't taking things lightly and didn't need to confirm things, he was already interested in Boruto and that meant so much to him.

"I mean it. But that doesn't mean I'm a sap or some shit so don't get it twisted. I'd rather you call me a manwhore." As soon as the words left Kawaki's mouth, he was kissed within an inch of his life.

The action stunned him initially, but it only took a couple of seconds before Kawaki was kissing him back, and then dominating his soft lips. There was no lying and saying he didn't want Boruto, when he'd actually wanted him all along, but Kawaki had come to care about him over the six times they'd swapped bodies for whatever reason.

In that time, he'd learned how much his friends thought of him, how great of a son and brother he was, how passionate he was about his work, and how much he cared about others. Kawaki had grown a soft spot for him, maybe from even that first day despite his confusion. At the time, he'd been certain it was a dream, but everything was far too real.

Kawaki wanted his person as badly as anyone else did, but he had a hard time opening up and letting anyone in. Whether it was just Boruto, or the circumstances they faced together, Kawaki had somehow gotten curious. Maybe even attached. He couldn't write off the possibility and was willing to try as long as Boruto was.

Boruto moved around the dining room with two trays balanced in his hands. It was another one of those busy days and he was darting around to keep up, going from table to table and helping serve rather than cook tonight. He purposely saved a table in the back for last and put in his best smile as he delivered a plate of their finest steak and sides, noting that the wine glass he had previously filled was empty.

"Would you like me to pour more wine for you?" The blond asked sweetly.

"Please," the customer responded just as sweetly. "This wine is actually delicious."

"I'm glad you like it," Boruto said and picked up the wine bottle, slowly refilling his glass. "Have I told you how good you look tonight?"

"I don't believe so," he mused, grin splitting his lips apart. "Do go on, though. I love it when my server works for their tip."

"I mean it, you're quite fetching in that black suit," Boruto laughed before adding, "and I'd like more than just the tip, sir."

Kawaki laughed, resting his elbow on the table and propping his cheek in the palm of his hand, grey eyes trailing over his lover. "Keep on and you just might get it."

It had been over six months since they began their relationship and just last month they had made love for the first time, putting a stop to the body switching and proving that the raven's instincts had been right, but it was odd to settle back into their regular lives after they had gotten so used to switching. It helped that they saw each other a lot and were getting along better than ever. Kawaki was so sweet on him, and he loved the attention, but he had often been scolded for flirting with his boyfriend on the job. He couldn't help it and his boss didn't seem to really mind as long as he got his work done.

"I intend to," Boruto replied and set the wine bottle down, purposely brushing their fingers together.

"Well, I expect no less from you." Kawaki captured his hand with his own, just long enough to twine their fingers together and give it a gentle squeeze. Then he let go, smile softening. "You better behave though."

It seemed playtime was over for now, but he would be back to check in on him in a bit. "I know, I know. Enjoy your food, it's pretty damn good even though I'm not in the kitchen tonight." He winked at him.

"I'm sure it can't compare to yours, but I'll be nice."

Boruto grinned at him and wanted to steal a kiss, but he had been standing around long enough. He saw to the other tables and seated a couple more people, taking their orders. A few patrons were ready to leave and Boruto gave them their bill and then sent them off to the front where they would pay. As the night went on, his mind wandered to how the last six months had been for him, how great things were and how happy he was. Dating Kawaki was like a roller coaster, they had gone on so many dates and he had seen so many sides of the other man, learned so many new things about him. The raven was way more caring than he first let on, hiding his gentler side, but he felt things deeply.

He was considerate in both big and small ways, taking care of Boruto first before himself. It was clear that Kawaki had decided to put his all into their relationship and he bared his heart to the blond. The change in Boruto's life had been more significant than their switching and he had never felt so spoiled. It was also nice being able to pamper and care for that treated him so well, loving him and supporting his dreams. He couldn't remember the last time he had a relationship like that when everything was so genuine. That man was truly taken with him and he was just as smitten. Of course nothing was perfect, they still clashed and had petty arguments over little things, both in irritation and in a playful, teasing manner.

They were still living separately as well, but before the week was over they had planned for Boruto to move all of his things over. Kawaki's penthouse was more than big enough and half of the smaller man's things had made their way over there already. Everything was falling into place and he finally had the romance and companionship he always wanted.

"Have you decided on what you'd like for dessert?" Boruto asked after he collected the raven's empty plate.

"Think I'll take you," Kawaki said with his usual teasing glint in his eyes, smirk on his lips.

"For here or to go?" Boruto shot back cheekily.

"To go works for me. I like it in bed, nice and comfy."

Unable to resist this time, he leaned down and stole a chaste kiss. "Soon, very soon."

"Don't know how much longer I can wait," Kawaki said with a sigh. "Dessert is my favorite."

There was less than an hour in his shift, but perhaps he could convince the chef to let him go home a little early. "Well . . ." he trailed and pretended to think about it, but he never needed much convincing, easily going along with what his boyfriend wanted most of the time. "How big is that tip going to be?"

"Big enough to either have you choking on it or screaming—but I think you already know."

While he expected and hoped for a naughty response, Kawaki's words still made Boruto blush. "I'll be ready in five."

"I'll be waiting… with your tip."

Scurrying away to plead his case to the head chef, he had the biggest of grins on his face, spine tingling with anticipation. He was thankful the mysterious and crazy body swap had happened between him and Kawaki, bringing them together, but he'd never want to swap with anyone ever again, not when he was already with his perfect match.
