Seven Day Vacation: Chapter 1
"So, I can fix this cannon for ya… if you pay me 300 rupees in advance…"
The statement echoed in the mind of the hero as he just finished paying off Fyer, the man who owns a business where he shoots PEOPLE out of a cannon to get to higher ground. Why there isn't a safer option to get out of Lake Hylia, he will never know. Link was practically dragging his feet across the ground, his face looked like his soul was sucked out and he swore he can still hear the sound of depleting rupees.
"Hey, come on! Don't look so sad! It's just 300 repees."
The swordsman sighed and slowly turned his head to the owner of that high pitched voice. The imp (in her shadow form) was leaning against his shoulder with a fanged smirk adorning her mischievous face.
"Just 300 repees, Midna? Do you know how long it takes me just to get that many?"
The swordsman usually would have put on an annoyed face by now, but he was too demotivated to bother, instead he just had a blank expression.
"Pfft-ahaha! Not that long if you go and collect those bugs for that weirdo in Castle Town, wolfy~!"
She poked his cheek a few times with her claw, her high pitched cackling ringing in his ear. While she has warmed up to the hero and become his friend in recent months since Zant's ambush and when Link and Zelda saved her life, she still loved to tease her wolf. Especially if he acted like a drama queen over something trivial.
"I know, but it sometimes takes me hours to find, let alone catch those blasted insects. Besides…"
A shiver went down his spine as he started to get out of his dejected mood and replaced with fear. "She kind of creeps me out a bit."
The imp leaped off his shoulder and into the air in front of Link. She lazed backwards and pillowed her head with her hands. "So you're telling me you can face monsters, demons and the paranormal… but Goddesses forbid a bug fanatic appears! Oh no!" Midna waved hands in a state of 'panic' and then proceeded to wrap her arms around her stomach and burst out laughing.
Link rolled his eyes in annoyance as he folded his arms and turned his back on the imp. She would not be laughing if she had to talk to the bug freak, the way she talks just creeps him out to no end. While they are friends, Midna did still get on his nerves at times, at least the teasing didn't revolve around harsh insults anymore like how their partnership first began.
As the creature of Twilight continued to howl in laughter, Link quickly thought of a topic change. "Anyway…" he slowly turned around. "We have a week until Fyer fixes our cannon. And considering we haven't really had a chance to relax in the last few days, maybe we should consider this a vacation?"
Midna's laughter died down as she wiped away a stray tear. She tapped a claw against her chin in thought. "Hmm, a vacation, eh? That does sound pretty good, actually! But how should we spend it?" She shrugged her shoulders as she gave him a questioning look.
"Let's worry about that in the morning, I'm getting rather tired." To emphasize this, he stretched his arms up high and let out a yawn, his eyes half-shut as he gazed at the rising moon, the twilight sky slowly fading into black and shimmering stars.
Midna raised a finger and opened her mouth to protest since they could still do something fun now, but she did realize he didn't really get any sleep in the last few days. The last thing she wanted was for him to get health problems, she stills feels guilty about pushing him so far earlier in their partnership where she would wake him up if he started dozing on the job. She frowns at the memory of her cruelty towards Link back then...
Noticing her frown, he was about to ask what's wrong. She quickly noticed his concerned expression, and not waiting to get into this topic on their vacation: quickly brought out the shadow crystal and changed him into a wolf. He shaked his head in confusion to how sudden the change was, groaning slightly in pain and before he can process anything...
"Alright, next stop! Ordon!" She leaped onto his back and warped them to Ordon Springs as they dissolved into twilight specks and rose into the air. Fyer broke his attention away from the cannon and stared behind as he thought he heard something. Once he did not find anything out of the ordinary, he merely shrugged it off and got back to his work.
