Author's Note: Hellloooo! It's been waaay too long. So good news, we finally have a release date. May 28th!
Hope you guys like this one. Thank you!
"Yo, Els!"
Ella almost drops the evidence she just processed when her 'ghost' friend appeared out of nowhere. Again.
"How many times do I have to remind you, Rae-rae?"
"Sorry, old habits, ya know. So, whatcha doin'?"
"Same old. How about you?"
"Ahhh, of course I came here for you. I only ever come here for you. And for my big brother."
"Wait, you have a big brother?"
"Several, actually. But my favorite one is here in LA."
"So, why are you talking to me then and not him?"
"Pretty sure he's preoccupied at the moment," Azrael's eyes strayed from Ella, suddenly reminded of the scene at the penthouse earlier.
She was going to tell Lucifer first, but he's with the love of his life doing stuff that lovers do — she's definitely not interrupting that or else her favorite brother would be plenty pissed — so plan B was set in motion, which was to tell Ella straight away.
"Ohhhhkay? Wait! Your brother can see you, too?"
"Ahhhh, yes! Anyhow! I wanted to warn you about your current fling,"
"Who, Pete?"
"Is that his name?"
"Hmm. What about him?"
"He's bad news, Ella."
"What do you mean? He's such an adorable dork, like me."
"I know you have a penchant for attracting shady dudes — sorry, but it's true — but this Pete, he reeks of death."
"What does that even mean?"
"Just please, Ella. Please, please be careful. I'm so sorry, I gotta bail. Remember what I said, okay?"
"What? Hello?" But Rae-rae is already gone.
Even though Azrael trusts Ella, the latter is too trusting of others so the analyst may not be able to see past this human stain's (as Lucifer would call it) fake kindness. So after guiding a couple of souls in the afterlife, the angel of death goes back to the penthouse with her fingers crossed, praying that he's taking a break of sorts because nothing could reassure her other than making sure Ella is covered.
Lucifer senses her presence right then and there even before she lands on the penthouse balcony.
Lucifer quietly leaves the bed where his Detective is currently in deep sleep. His partner is pretty exhausted after their extensive activities earlier so he knows she's gonna be out for a few minutes.
Azrael waits for her brother to get to the balcony and hears the snore of the woman he'd pined for, for quite some time and wonders how he could stand it.
"Has she always snored like that? Like an Albanian field wench?" The Angel of death whispers and Lucifer couldn't help but snort at the comment.
"I'm used to it. What brings you to Los Angeles, Rae-rae?"
"Oh, now I'm Rae-rae again," She couldn't help but give her brother a big, goofy smile. She missed this. She missed him listening to her endless rants, or about anything, really.
The Devil shakes his head and returns the smile, "Out with it, sister. We have but a few moments before the Detective senses I'm not there. She's a cuddler, that one."
"TMI, Lu, thank you very much. Anyway, Ella's boyfriend Pete," Azrael doesn't waste any time and goes straight into business.
"Yes, I've met him. Quite the nerd, actually. Why, what's wrong with the chap?"
"He reeks of death, Lu. I don't want him anywhere near Ella."
"Like he's dying or…"
"No. He's causing death, more like,"
Lucifer lifts his chin, finally able to put a finger on why he dislikes the guy so much. No wonder he immediately felt something was off.
"Can you please watch over her anyway? I can't stay long." Rae-rae adds, seemingly in a hurry.
"You have my word." The Devil answers and the angel of death breathes a sigh of relief. There's nothing more certain than having the Devil on one's side.
"Thank you. Now I gotta go. Duty calls, or called rather, like fifteen minutes ago or so. I'm gonna get in trouble again if I hang around longer."
"That's the only reason you're here?"
"Pretty much. Oh, and I miss you, too. I know you don't — ooff,"
Lucifer embraces her briefly, something he had never done so she relishes it and embraces him back.
"Off you pop," He tells Rae-Rae and ruffles her air.
"Hey!" She feigns annoyance as she fixes her hair back. "I'll visit you again next time, Lu. I promise."
"Looking forward to it."
Azrael leaves while Lucifer fires off a quick text to Maze. Even though he and his former bartender are quite on the outs at the moment, she accepts the job because no one messes with her tribe.
Ella was extremely disappointed when the truth about Pete came out. Dude's not remorseful of the murders he'd committed and even tried to justify why he did them.
"I wouldn't mind a quick trip to Hell just to make sure this scumbag gets what he deserves when he kicks off." Lucifer mutters as he watches behind the two way mirror.
"Well, at least we caught him before he could strike again."
"Indeed. Would you mind if I stay a little longer to talk to Miss Lopez?"
"Sure. Let her know that I'm here for her as well."
"Yes, Detective."
