At the hospital
As Greg and Sarah leave the hospital to enjoy their regained freedom, Greg looks over at Sarah.
"so, what are you going to do now?" he asks.
"I thought we were going for coffee?" Sarah responds, confused.
"I mean, how are you going to celebrate your freedom?" he rephrases. Sarah quickly catches on to what Greg is referring to.
"Greg, we are divorced," Sarah says, a little cold.
"I know." Greg says but does not seem to buy it. "but you want to let him know what happened, right?"
"I don't even know where in the world he is," Sarah says, unable to hide the sadness in her voice, no matter how much she tries.
"you don't need to know where he is to send him an email or do a video call." Greg points out with a knowing look. It does not go unnoticed how Sarah seems to reconsider for a moment before she gets inside the car.
At the crime lab
After Sarah has had coffee with Greg at the diner, she arrives back at the lab. She did not feel like going home to an empty house. Sarah passes several of the employees who look a bit bewildered as Sarah silently walks to the empty conference room. She sits down, and She pours herself a cup of coffee before she opens her computer. Sarah has many new emails that all seem to be work-related. Still, she is not in the mood to respond to them right now. she has o messages on her phone or any personal emails from any friends or family. When she thinks about it, it is not that surprising. The only family member she has left is her mother. She opens a new email and starts writing:
"hi, Grissom.
Long time no…"
She quickly deletes the second line, so only "hi Grissom" is left on the screen. She is just sitting there for a while in the dark conference room, looking out on the busy lab where Hodges, Henry, and Morgan are in the lab. They seem to be chatting and laughing. Greg went home after their coffee to arrange his visit to his grandma, and DB went home to his wife and kids.
Now Sarah is sitting by herself, writing an email to her ex-husband that she has no idea where she is in the world. She leans back in the chair. Her life seems sad. She nearly got killed by one of the deadliest viruses in the world, and she has no one to go home to. She closes her eyes for a moment to clear her thoughts. Still, she is interrupted by the sound of a new email coming in. When she opens her eyes to her big surprise, she sees the name "Grissom" on the email's sender. She takes a moment to realize that she is not dreaming. The email is there, and it is from Grissom. It is not just spam.
"what are you doing here?" Sarah looks up at the person that has just arrived at the door to the conference room. It is Nick.
"I thought you went home?" Sarah says as Nick sits down across from her.
"nah… I knew you would come back here." Nick responds. "what are you doing?" he asks.
"writing an email," Sarah says without saying to whom, but Nick knows. She can see it in his eyes.
"I was in quarantine at risk of having been infected with one of the deadliest viruses in the world, and no one contacted me." Sarah says with sadness in her voice. "no family member." Nick closes the computer screen.
"we are your family. We are right here." Nick says with a soft smile.
"like it or not." That is Greg, who has just entered, followed by Hodges, Henry, and Morgan. Greg has his iconic smile on his face.
"let's go get some breakfast," Morgan says.
"yeah, I am starving," Greg adds in.
"you always are." Henry comments.
"don't bother Grego. He needs food to grow." Nick jokes, and everyone starts laughing. Nick and Greg looks over at Sarah, who even has a small smile on her face.
"I know it goes without saying." Greg says as they walk down the hallway of the lab. "but we are your family." Nick continues and wraps an arm around Sarah's shoulders.
