Luna Lovegood was an incognita. She looked like an open book, and said whatever was on her mind, however odd it might sound to other people, but there was still something in her that intrigued Astoria. No one could be that free or innocent. It was like she had no malice in her whatsoever, no hatred, no hurt. She has never seen the girl frowning or scowling. She always looked peaceful. Astoria liked peace. Astoria needed peace.

All her friends came from her sister's social circles, and, honestly, she couldn't call them her friends. They didn't even like her. They all thought she was weird and "too weak", as she heard Milicent Bulstrode call her behind her back one day. It was not like they called her better things to her face. In fact, they didn't call her anything at all. It was like she was not even there.

Astoria needed Ravenclaw friends. Friends she could relate to. Astoria needed Luna. From what she knew about the girl, she was Astoria's best chance. It scared her a little that she was friends with some of the most popular people at Hogwarts, but at the same time she looked so approachable, and no one could deny Luna Lovegood was exceptional.

Astoria swallowed her fear and walked towards the girl sitting by herself in the middle of the Quidditch pitch, wearing fluffy slippers. Astoria wondered how they didn't get dirty.

"Hm, hi," she said, shyly. "Can I sit here?"

"Yes, I'm watching the birds. How high they fly, with no fear of falling."

Astoria smiled. She had nothing to worry about, Luna was the personification of the friendly Ravenclaw. She used her intelligence to make people feel comfortable and included in the conversation.

"And they don't leave each other alone."

"Sometimes it's nice to be alone," said Luna.

Astoria found that comment to be a bit tactless, but kept it to herself.

"I should've known," Astoria mumbled, defeated. She was always intruding on other people's business. What a blithering idiot. She started moving to stand up, but Luna's hand grabbed her arm.

"But most times," Luna added, "having someone by our side is the only thing we need."

Astoria sat back down, and looked up at the birds. If they could flock together, so could the ravens.
