LOL so that one line (you know which one) killed me and instead of doing my many assignments, this happened. There's no time to read it over, but here it is.
ALSO I can't wait for tonight!
She can feel the tremor in her hands. She wants to scream. She wants to run. She wants out. She hates the part of her that wants to hear him out after all these years. The part of herself that she's tried to let go of all these years.
No.
"You were the most important person in my life… and you just disappeared…" Damn him. Ten seconds in his presence and the tears are threatening to spill over regardless of her efforts to keep them at bay.
Damn him.
Olivia sees his jaw clench and eyebrows knit together. She knows she's caught him off guard. She knows this is a side to her he'd never seen. He made a mistake just showing up like this. She knows he expected anger, prepared for yelling. She knows him well enough to pick up on his surprise to her honest words. He's not ready for her truth, but she sure is going to give it to him.
All those years spent tiptoeing over the boundaries, never speaking into existence what each meant to the other… she doesn't have time for that anymore. All those years of unresolved fights, emotions, and feelings were not who she was anymore, even if he still was. If he wanted to speak to her, he was going to have to actually communicate. No more games, no more hidden meanings. She wasn't the same Olivia who ran from her feelings. She's changed. Has he?
He anticipated a dance, but she's prepared herself for war.
Good, she thinks. I want him to feel this.
"Olivia, please, just hear me out." His eyes are pleading, but she's not going to give in.
Their entire partnership… their entire relationship built itself around their trust. Their loyalty to each other, undeniable to others, felt like home to her. A feeling of comfort he'd torn, a sense of security never reestablished. He broke it. He'd broken her.
"No… you don't get to just show up after ten years with nothing."
"Liv-" Her head snaps back to him and her first clenches. She holds up her hand in between the little space that separates them.
"I'm going to tell you this once: do not call me that. You don't get to talk to me like we're friends." Like you were here for me. Olivia sees every word hit him like a brick. She sees the hurt register in his face, noticing the wetness in his eyes as he shakes his head and looks away.
Good.
Olivia doesn't waver.
"Elliot, I loved you… how could I not? Did I really not even deserve a goodbye?" Elliot's eyes meet hers and she knows the tears have spilled over, and as much as she doesn't want him to see her like this, it's part of the truth. The pain is only part of the truth. His clear blue eyes hold his surprise at her words, but also reveal a sorrow she's never known Elliot Stabler to have.
The tears flowing down his face don't bring the sense of satisfaction she was hoping for. Anger builds in her. Why did his own tears claw at her throat even after all this time apart?
She can't even believe she's finally speaking these words, but there's no stopping the dam now. The break in her voice doesn't go unnoticed by both of them. "Did I really mean so little to you?"
She waits for him to say something, say anything, but when he doesn't immediately, she sure as hell is not going to wait ten more years to get the closure she needs.
"You know what… forget it… none of it matters." She waves her hand dismissively in his direction. She feels her surroundings caving in on her and the proximity is too much for her. He's too close to her after not seeing each other for ten years. She needs to go. She's said what she wanted to say to him all those years ago.
"Olivia, I'm sorry." He looks away from her again.
"Really, Elliot? You're sorry? If you had anything to say to me, you had ten years. I don't want to hear whatever you have to tell me." She prides herself in her harsh words. The truth hurts. She knows that better than anyone because of him. "I don't want you in my life anymore."
He takes a step closer to her. "Olivia, please, I know you're angry-"
"You don't know anything about me." She is not going to let him do this to her all over again.
Her words set something off in his eyes and his next words are quiet, but so full of emotion that it stings. His eyes are piercing hers."I know you have a son. I always knew yo-"
"I don't think you understand, Elliot. I'm done." She starts to turn away from him, but she's caught off guard by his hand grabbing hers.
"Don't," she warns. The intimacy of the action sends her back in time.
I won't do this to myself again.
She braces herself for the loss of warmth and withdraws her hand from his. "What we had… whatever it was… you buried it alive." Her hand opens the door and she looks back just in time to see the painful look on his face as she twists the knife in further and goes for the final blow.
"I never want to see you again."
