Hailey woke up slowly. Morning sun peeked through the curtains. She could already feel a familiar feeling of strong arms around her. Firm muscles were nestled against her back and a warm breath tickled her neck. Hailey sighed happily. Being his little spoon was definitely one of her new favourite places. It felt so good. So safe. She felt emotions took over her, when she thought about it. Safe. Being safe with someone wasn't the emotion she was used to. For years she had thought that the only person who could keep her safe was herself. But that was before she met Jay. Secretly he had become her anchor, her safe haven. And when they had finally shifted from being partners to being lovers, she had found out that when being physically so close to him, she felt even more safe. It was sometimes an overwhelming feeling.
She could feel him moving a little. She smiled. She knew Jay was awake. He woke up before her almost every morning, but it seemed that also his favorite place was to be her big spoon. He often stayed in the bed and waited for her to wake up.
"Babe, I know you are awake", she whispered.
"Mmmm… Didn't want to wake you", he answered with that raspy morning voice which always made her dizzy. He popped up to his elbow and planted soft kisses to her cheek. "It's Sunday, we don't have to go to work, it's only fair that you can sleep as long you need to."
Hailey turned to face him. Jay's hand roamed along her side, his fingers soft and tender. Hailey leaned on to kiss him on the lips. The kiss was slow and tender, she savoured the feeling.
"Hi you", she whispered when they broke the kiss. He smiled at her, the smile that was meant only for Hailey. His Hailey smile. The smile that always made Hailey feel like she was special. Another emotion she hadn't been familiar with before Jay. She couldn't do anything but kiss him again. Jay kissed her back eagerly. Kisses turned more intense. His hands wandered on her body, his other hand cupping her breast and massaging it gently. She could feel his hardness against her belly. She kissed him even more passionately and rolled slowly her pelvis tighter against him, causing him to let out that sexy grunt she loved.
Fast and easy, never breaking the kiss, he rolled her on her back, his body hovering over her. Quiet moan escaped from her lips, she loved the feeling of his strong body over her. Their kisses and touches changed to be more frantic, more purposeful and they sank into their own sensuous world together.
She laid down, her head on his chest and his fingers slowly drawing patterns to her bare shoulder. They talked softly, about everything, about nothing. It felt easy. Almost everything with him felt easy. Sometimes all that felt like a dream to Hailey.
After enjoying enough their after sex bliss they get up from the bed. Hailey could feel Jay's eyes on her naked body. She turned to look at him.
"Wanna shower with me or are you going to run?", she asked, almost knowing what was going in Jay's mind.
She could see Jay felt conflicted. She laughed, she had guessed right. "Come on, go run. I know you want to, it's ok".
Jay chuckled. "Considering all the time I have dreamed about you in the shower, I wouldn't believe that someday I would choose to go run instead of showering with you."
"Oh, so you have dreamed about me in the shower… That's interesting", Hailey shot back. "But for real, go. You can shower with me any other day you want to."
"If you say so. But I insist you keep your promise, babe", he quipped, winking for her, and looked for his running gear from the closet.
Hailey went to the bathroom. She could hear Jay leaving. She stood in a warm shower in her thoughts.
She knew Jay needed his workout, and because of their latest case, he couldn't do it for a few days. She knew why Jay was so persistent to keep his training schedule going. Ruzek and Atwater sometimes teased Jay that he just wanted to keep himself fit for the ladies but Hailey knew that looking good wasn't Jay's motive. Sure, everyone probably liked to look fit, but Jay wasn't vain. Of course, Jay had been all his adult life in jobs with physical requirements, first in the Army, then in police forces. Naturally that had created some routines. But Hailey knew that the biggest reason for so regular workout was how Jay nowadays handled his PTSD. Working out helped. It let the steam out and helped to clear his head and keep it straight. Jay had once said that it was his therapy. He was in a good place now and he didn't want to take risk of spiraling again, so he kept his thing going. Hailey wanted to support him. She had seen him handle it not at all, or trying to handle it in far less healthier ways, so this was good.
After her long and leisurely shower Hailey wrapped herself to a towel and headed back to the bedroom. They had spent the night at Jay's place, but she had some clean clothes there too. She had just put her underwear on and tried to find something to wear when she heard the front door opening. She picked one of her tank tops to her hand and stepped out from the bedroom.
"Hey babe, did you miss me? I thought that you would run….." Her words were cut down for shock. Her hands flew up to cover her upper body with clothing she held. That wasn't Jay. There, in Jay's living room, in front of her stood Will.
Hailey was stunned. Will stared at Hailey. It wasn't anything new that she was there, but now she was dressed only in her bra and panties and calling his brother babe? Will opened his mouth only to close it again
Well, even if this was a catastrophe, finally cheeky Dr. Halstead was speechless, Hailey thought. She was the first to get herself together.
"Can you turn, I would really want to dress", she requested.
Still speechless, Will turned to let her some privacy. When he turned back Hailey was gone, but only for a moment. She came back from the bedroom, now dressed also to sweatpants.
Hailey walked to the kitchen and Will followed her. She filled a coffee maker and turned it on before starting to do some breakfast. Will was still silent but grinned now widely.
"Go on, ask. I know you wanna", stated Hailey. She was still with her back to Will. It was kind of embarrassing to meet a boyfriend's brother like that. Even though she already knew Will. But Will didn't know they were together. Well, he knew now.
"How long? Who? How? Did that sissy finally tell you how he feels about you?" Will interrogated.
"Whoa… For the first, couple of months. And I'm not sure you need all the details… But your brother wasn't sissy, that I can say." Hailey had finally turned around and looked at Will. Will looked genuinely happy.
"What is this? I mean are you…", Will stuttered, not being sure how to ask if this is like a serious relationship or some kind of friends with benefits arrangement. He was almost sure that it wasn't the latter.
Just then the front door opened and they could hear Jay's voice.
"Honey, I'm home", he joked happily.
Jay entered the kitchen and looked at Will in puzzlement.
"Hey bro, I haven't heard from you in a long time and you didn't answer my call this morning, so I came to see what's up", smiled Will.
"Oh. I see. You met Hailey… ahh… we drank too much last night so Hailey stayed…" Jay wasn't sure what Will knew and if Hailey wanted him to know about them. But then he looked at Hailey and one look to her eyes told him that Will already knew and that was okay.
"Don't… I'm okay that you didn't tell, but please, don't lie to me", Will demanded. "I came here and Hailey was here in her underwear calling me babe and as much I like to think that all women want me to be their babe, I'm quite sure she didn't mean me."
Jay looked unbelieving. "You were stalking my girlfriend while she is in her underwear?"
"I didn't stalk, I just came in", defended Will.
Hailey had made breakfast, letting brothers talk. "Well, you didn't announce yourself. How I should know, you came here like you own home", she intervened.
"Yeah. So you were stalking my girlfriend. That is an emergency key I gave you", Jay pointed. He wasn't really mad for Will seeing Hailey, but wanted to mess up with his brother and he definitely didn't want Hailey to feel uncomfortable at his home.
"How could I know that there isn't an emergency when you didn't answer my calls?", Will justified himself.
"I was busy…" A grin rose to Jay's face when he remembered why he had been busy in the morning.
"Sure thing you were", Will smirked. " Based on how many times you have already called Hailey your girlfriend, I got an answer to my question. I'm really happy for you."
"We are happy too", Jay said and looked at Hailey with affection.
"I'm so happy for me too, now I don't have to tolerate you when you are pining…" Will taunted Jay.
"Ok, enough. Hails, you are ok if I leave you alone with this pain in the ass? I can kick him out too? I really need to go shower quickly before breakfast. I'm starving", Jay offered.
"Go go, I'm sure I can handle him. I've got a gun, you know...", Hailey laughed.
"You are still as insufferable as before… love hasn't softened you yet", whined Will.
After Jay was gone, Hailey poured coffee for Will and herself. They sat at the kitchen table. Will sipped his coffee and looked at Hailey with a thoughtful look on his face. He sighed.
"You know, I probably already know that this is unnecessary and Jay would kill me, if he knew… But he is my baby brother and the only family I have."
" I understand", Hailey reassured. "Go on, say what you need to say."
"You may know Jay better than anybody. But I want to be sure that you know that even if my brother is tough as nails cop, special forces vet and sometimes seems to think that he is immortal, Jay is also gone through hell. Things like he has experienced leave no one intact." Will didn't know how to continue. He had seen Jay when he came back from the war, when Erin had left. He just didn't want to see his baby brother suffer anymore.
Hailey smiled at him. Her smile was a little bit sad, but warm. "Will. I have no intention to hurt Jay. We have both our own package and I'm far from perfect. But Jay is too important to me that I would ever purposely do anything to harm our relationship."
"You know, I'm positive that my brother thinks you are perfect. "
Jay had showered and came to the kitchen. He poured coffee into his mug.
"Don't believe what he tells you", Jay noted.
"Hey, I say only nice things. And truths" Will defended himself.
"There's avocado toast, I made for you too", Hailey offered.
"You are the best, thanks!" Jay took his plate and mug and sat down with others. He ate his toast and listened to Hailey and Will talking.
"Does anybody but me know about you two", Will asked.
"Kim does, she figured it out for some reason. And you can't ever know what Voight knows…", Hailey answered. "It's not that we are gonna keep this secret infinitely. But we need to prove that we can do it, be still partners despite this", she waved her hand between her and Jay.
"I get it. I believe that they will understand", Will sympathized.
Jay had finished his breakfast, but they stayed in the kitchen drinking more coffee and chatting. Jay smiled. It felt so good, the cozy atmosphere and two of his most important people around him. He was so glad that Hailey and Will seemed to feel comfortable around each other. Of course, they had been familiar before. They had met at Med and in Molly's, but this was different. He looked at Hailey and Will who were lively chatting about something. This was something he hadn't known he had needed, but now it felt so right.
"Well. I think I need to go home. I need to take some nap, night shift coming. And I'm sure that you lovebirds have some plans too", Will excused himself. "I came to see that everything is okay, but I would say that saying that everything is okay is an understatement. Everything seems to be more than okay, let's say great. "
"We can say that", Jay said looking at Hailey.
Will stood up and looked at the pair. He was so glad that things made this kind of progress. Jay looked so happy. He felt that he had seen glimpses of that Jay, who he was before going to the war. This, Hailey, may be the best thing that had ever happened to his brother. He had known it before, but now it seemed to be even more clear.
Jay walked Will to the door. Will surprised him by grabbing him to the hug.
"You did good baby brother. Mom would have loved her."
"Thanks bro. Love ya", Jay answered before Will left.
Jay smiled. He could certainly get used to Sunday mornings like this.
