Summary: Jack and Elizabeth reflect on beautiful things. Post AWE AU. One-shot.

Prompt 1: "I miss moments like this more than anything."

Prompt 2: "A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts." - Vision, Avengers: Age of Ultron

A/N: I totally started writing this in present tense because of Fighting With Fire: Star of the Capitol. It wasn't even intentional. Oof. Whatever. I need more practice at it anyway.

Missed Moments

When he walks out on deck, she's the only one standing there. She's at the starboard railing, looking out over the gentle Caribbean waves. Her golden locks flap behind her a little in the evening breeze. The setting sun makes her appear to glow. She looks content, quite unlike the last time he had seen her.

He smiles softly and approaches her. "Ye always did like sunsets, Lizzie."

She glances over her shoulder at him, returning the smile. "Yes. They're the most beautiful part of the day."

"They're the end o' the day." He points out, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her to him.

"Yes. I suppose they are." She nods.

"I miss moments like this more than anythin'." He admits.

"A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts." She murmurs, leaning back into his chest.

"Like yourself." He manages sadly, closing his eyes and nuzzling the top of her head. "God, love, I miss ye more than ye know."

"We'll see each other again soon, Jack. I promise."

When he opens his eyes, she is gone and he is laying in his bed. It's dark and stormy outside. He's left feeling hollow again, knowing he is alone in this world despite the crew. He misses Elizabeth now more than ever.
