Chapter 1: Inconsolable.

Sitting on her couch, Bonnie watched television with a bowl of cereal in her hand. The young woman took advantage of the free time she had left before going to her pharmaceutical practice. At twenty-seven, the latter had her own practice in a city of Los Angeles.

The latter had left Mystic Falls since the loss of her boyfriend, killed by a vampire hunter. Following this painful ordeal, the witch decided to settle in California, permanently leaving her old life behind. Enzo had not only been a lover of young Bennett but also a friend, a confidant, the only person really there for her and above all a man who loved her deeply. It was also thanks to him that Bonnie had approached her mother with whom she had remained distant for a long time, but Abby, aware of having created this situation, decided to make up for it. The vampire knew that she would not make up for all the lost time, but she still wanted to create a bond with her daughter, which had not been easy at the beginning but ultimately not impossible because as incredible as that perhaps, their relationship had really evolved over time and the two women had become close. Her death had left a great void to young Bennett who had finally found a mother she had never had, to believe that fate was against her.

It was now four years since Abby and Enzo had left this world.

Bonnie still had not rebuilt her life, haunted by the memory of her lost love, the latter had devoted herself to her work to overcome her grief, but as soon as she found herself alone in her apartment again, reality caught up with her. However, life went on for Matt, Damon, Stefan and Jeremy, but as you might expect nothing remained quiet for long in Mystic Falls, indeed a new threat lurked in town since a vampire discovered the existence of the remedy for immortality.

Vampires were now flocking to Mystic Falls in search of the cure to destroy it once and for all. Elena was in danger again. The Salvadores called in a few witches to help them but most of them unfortunately worked for those who were tracking young Petrova. The vampires had become so numerous and ruthless that they had no choice but to cooperate in order to save their powers had weakened a lot since the destruction on the other side and they no longer stood out against them.

Those who agreed to ally themselves with the Salvadores were either accomplices of the enemies or ended up betraying them, when they were not killed by the persecutors of young Gilbert. One of the latter had also tried to deliver the young human to a vampire to save her little brother held hostage by him, and would have succeeded if Damon had not stopped him in time by breaking his neck. That's why they finally decided to contact Bonnie, the only person they trusted, but there was another problem: the pretty mixed-race hadn't done magic in four years. How would she manage to practice it again?

Her best friend needed her in Mystic Falls. Bonnie was going to have to return to her hometown where she spent all her childhood, where all her memories are but also where she has lost absolutely everything. How funny it would be to see her friends again, even if deep down, she reluctantly went back and would certainly never have come back if the situation weren't so urgent. Barely arrived in front of the mansion, the young Bennett felt the absence of Enzo. She missed him dearly more than she thought she would. The vampire had made her so happy that she even once thought of becoming a vampire to stay with him and her mother, Abby forever, allowing Elena to wake up at the same time. The witch wiped a tear, then rang the doorbell.

- Salvation! It's been a long time Bonbon! Said Damon hugging her! You're okay?

- Yes and you? Bonnie responded!

- Apart from the fact that the vampires and the hunters are trying to get their hands on my girlfriend, everything is fine!

- Hunters? She repeated surprised!

- Yes! A vampire hunter informed by a vampire, up to the task! What? Shouted the completely upset woman! How did they find it? The latter wondered, wishing to know what had happened!

- It turns out that Mr. Lockwood was very reckless! He said with a certain annoyance in his voice as if the mere fact of pronouncing this name or that of Tyler made him crave murders!

- Ah! She's there! Said Jeremy behind her! Did she do the spell? Asked the latter without bothering to greet her!

- Not yet!

- But what is she waiting for? Tell him to hurry, we don't have time!

- It's good, Gilbert! Let's go! Damon replied!

Bonnie followed the vampire silently, preferring not to care about Jeremy's behavior since his arrival. They both entered the cellar where Elena's coffin was. Damon opened it gently while pulling it closer to his friend so that she could perform a spell. The young woman took the time to detail her best friend still asleep. She hadn't changed at all which was a bit normal as time had stood still for her since Kai had turned her into sleeping beauty. Damon looked at her for a long time too before finally turning to Bonnie, guessing she probably had a lot of questions.

- So? How did they find out about the cure? She asked!

- By a woman who was holding Matt hostage!

- Why did you kidnap Matt? Asked the witch!

- Vampires hate to be hunted and when they cannot or will not directly kill the people who hunt them, they learn about them and their loved ones in particular! That's why I wanted Jeremy to stop his hunter activities!

- So as not to put Elena in danger!

- So as not to put Elena in danger! Bonnie replied!

- Exact! But he didn't listen to me! He continued with Tyler and then one day they killed a vampire who was feeding on a student on their campus! Two other vampires had seen them from afar and went to warn Tess!

- Who is Tess?

- The deceased's sister!

- And I guess this sister is a vampire demanding revenge! Bonnie concludes!

- Right on, Bonbon! She kidnapped Matt to use as a bargaining chip! His life against that of his brother's murderer! What we did not know is that Matt was only used as a diversion for her! Tess never intended to kill him! She just wanted him to give her some personal information about Jeremy, nothing else! This is where this bitch learned of Elena's existence and then tried to get her hands on her, by all means by calling on a powerful wizard!

- To take his sister from him just like Jeremy took his brother! Understood the young woman!

- Absolutely! The worst part is that this is not her first attempt! There are two that my brother and I had already thwarted but that did not stop him, on the contrary! Tess this time took advantage of Tyler's absence to go home to find Elena! Something that she unfortunately succeeded because after finding her, Tess became human again!

- What? Did she drink Elena's blood?

- Yes! Confirmed the vampire! All because Mr. Lockwood did not think of having the entrance to his attic sealed by a witch! He said with annoyance!

- He forgot, Damon! These are things that can happen! Bonnie defended him!

- Forget it? Watching over my girlfriend was all she was asked to do! Even he couldn't do it! Certainly it will always remain unnecessary! Complained the vampire!

- What happened to Tess since?

- I ripped out his heart, of course! He said knowing full well that his friend would have preferred that he spared her these kinds of details, but it was stronger than him! He loved teasing her so much.

After gathering all the necessary ingredients, Bonnie recited her incantations but after a few minutes the witch passed out. When the witch regained consciousness, the two vampires were leaning over her.

- Never do something like that again, Bonbon! Damon sighed relieved!

The witch had passed out due to lack of practice. The spell that the latter had just performed had taken a lot of energy but was enough to hide Elena from her captors for a long time.

Everything was ready. All that was needed was to put the coffin of young Petrova in the trunk of the car so that she could finally leave the city. When that was done, Stefan took the wheel while his brother took a seat next to it and closed the door.

During the long hours of travel, Bonnie remained silent next to Jeremy who still had not spoken to her since his arrival.

- Are you all right, Bonbon? Asked the vampire!

- Yes!

- Are you sure? He insisted! Knowing her enough to know she wasn't telling him the truth!

Bonnie kept her head against the window of the car with her eyes closed, wishing this would all be over as soon as possible and finally return home far from the supernatural that brought back painful memories to her, but just as the latter was about to reopen them. eyes, the witch was suddenly struck by a violent vision. Dumbfounded, the young woman came to discover that the hunter who had killed Enzo was none other than her ex.
