LeFou was on his way back to the village. He was returning from the castle, where the Prince had just hosted a royal ball to celebrate his marriage to Belle, and the newfound humanity in him and his servants. He was the last villager to leave.
He was just barely past the gates when he encountered a wolf cub that had somehow injured itself.
"Hey there, little fella," said LeFou. "Are you lost?"
The wolf cub flattened its ears in terror.
LeFou thought he'll find his way back on his own. So LeFou continued walking.
LeFou stopped after passing it, surprised it didn't run away. Even stray kittens would run away when LeFou or anyone got near.
LeFou turned around and stared at it. It still looked terrified.
Then he noticed it was wounded.
LeFou walked up to it and got down on his knees. The cub was now trembling.
"It's okay..." said LeFou.
LeFou picked up the cub by the scruff of its neck and brought it back to the castle. He thought Belle will know what to do.
"Belle... I found this wolf cub all alone. I think he's wounded," said LeFou before handing it to Belle.
"'He' is a female," said Belle.
After Belle was done tending to her wounds, Belle and LeFou went back outside.
'Where do you think her mother is?" said LeFou.
"I have no idea. Have you seen Chip? Mrs. Potts says he's gone missing," said Belle.
To their surprise, a pigeon stood there with a message attached to its leg.
Belle removed the message from its leg and read it out loud to LeFou: "Belle, I wandered out of the castle, got chased by vicious wolfs and one wolf saved me but has taken me to his den and won't let me leave. - Chip"
"Belle, it's 'wolves'," not 'wolfs'," said LeFou.
"Well, he's saying 'wolfs'," said Belle.
"How can you tell?" asked LeFou.
"He spelled it with an F," replied Belle.
"What's an F?"
"Never mind."
...
Chip had indeed been kidnapped by a wolf. The wolf cub's mother had felt empty without her daughter and when she saw Chip, she knew he would be able to fill the hole in her heart.
