The stars glittered as the ship Great Fox orbited the planet of Corneria, its lights flashing. Fox McCloud sat in the cockpit, leaning back in the pilot's seat. On his right sat his beautiful but deadly wife, Krystal. They had married just two months before, and the wedding had been huge. Not only did the entirety of the Star Fox team show up, but many of the highest-ranking officials of the Cornerian Military Corps had as well. It had been the best day of Fox's life. On the left sat Miyu, the tomboyish lynx who was just as skilled with the tongue as she was with the gun. She had joined the team two years prior, and was a natural fit due to her fighting spirit. And although she could be annoying sometimes, Fox enjoyed having her on the team, as her sense of humor was seemingly limitless. In the back sat Slippy and his robot, ROB-64, the resident mechanics. Slippy had been with the team from the very beginning, so he knew the Great Fox from the inside out. He could tell if something was wrong and exactly what was wrong without even really looking. In addition, he could fix the problem in no time flat. Fox looked around and saw his team. He couldn't wish for a better crew.

An indicator on the main control panel began to beep, catching Krystal's attention.

"Fox! We have an incoming transmission from General Pepper!"

Fox nodded and whirled around to face the hologram projector. General Pepper's face appeared in the middle of the cockpit.

"Fox! I have a mission I need you to do. It's... a bit of an odd one, but I feel that you're the best person for the job. I need you to investigate an anomaly near Venom. It suddenly showed up on our scanners as an asteroid, but unlike an asteroid, its position has remained stationary for half an hour. As soon as you figure out what it is, contact me. Pepper out!"

Fox looked around at his crew.

"You heard him! Set course for Venom!"

Miyu rolled her eyes.

"Okay, Captain Kirk. Setting course for the evil Spider-Man planet."

Fox laughed. This was exactly why he liked having Miyu around.

"Alright. Let's go!"

The Great Fox pulled out of warpspace, and the yellowish-gray surface of Venom filled the window. Fox maneuvered around the planet to find the anomaly behind it. What he saw made his jaw drop.

In front of him sat a wormhole.

"Krystal? You seeing this?"

"Yes, dear. I'm seeing it."

Fox pulled out his camera and snapped a picture to send to General Pepper. The portal seemed to writhe and slither, stretching and warping every which way at random. He called General Pepper and sent him the picture. Once again, the General's head appeared in the middle of the cockpit.

"So the anomaly is a wormhole... Interesting. Well, now that we know what the anomaly is, we can call the-"

"Hold that thought for a second..."

Miyu shot Krystal a confused look.

"He never interrupts the General like that... Something is going on."

"There's something coming out of the wormhole!"

General Pepper's eyes widened.

Something was indeed coming out of the wormhole. It appeared to be another ship.

"Is that... no, it's impossible..."

But it was. The ship was the Great Fox.

"How!? I thought that there was only one Great Fox!"

General Pepper's brow furrowed.

"I've heard of this type of thing before... Fox, that is no wormhole. You are looking at a dimensional rift."

Fox froze.

"Dimensional... rift?"

Miyu shook her head.

"Someone didn't pay attention during quantum physics class. Imagine you have a rubber sheet with a grid on it. That's the universe."

Fox nodded. Miyu continued.

"Now imagine putting another rubber sheet underneath it, cutting a hole in the top sheet, and putting a cardboard tube between the two sheets. That's a dimensional rift."

"Huh. Okay, that makes sense."

Krystal looked at fox.

"Uhhh, Fox? Shouldn't we identify who's piloting that ship?"

"Oh, right."

He pressed a button, sending a call to the other ship.

"This is Fox McCloud, lead pilot of the StarFox team. Identify yourself, or you will be boarded."

Fox waited for a response.
