The loud, deafening, exasperating sound of the three o'clock alarm for his afternoon stream echoed down the hallway from his room. The short, fake blonde male with his instant cup noodles in his hand made his way to his room at a slow pace to not spill his broth. The cup was hot against his hand, but Kenma didn't mind-he was immune to the heat by now since he eats them all the time.
He wore an oversized hoodie that reached past his hips with baggy sweatpants, and his hair that grew past to his shoulders was messy from not taming it with a comb. He was an average nineteen year old that earned his income by streaming while playing popular games. His revenue was mainly from his viewers that donates.
The most he had earned in a three to five hour streaming session was up to fifty thousand yen. He lived in his own apartment that took him a few weeks to save up for. His mother helped him with the decorations and furniture. The rest he had managed to accomplish on his own.
Kenma walked into his room, went to his charging mobile device, and slid the button over to snooze his alarm. An inaudible sigh escaped his lips, as he used one hand to pull out his charging cable out of his phone and picked it up to bring it over to his gaming slash streaming setup.
He sat his phone next to his old gameboy he had sitting around, and pulled out his gaming chair from his desk to sit down comfortably on it. He leaned back, placed his cup noodles on the desk away from his mouse so he wouldn't knock it over, and stared at his screen.
He had scheduled his stream to go live at three, but it was counting down from five minutes. He watched as people joined in to wait for the stream to start, he read the comments, and reached for his headphones to slide them onto his head. He moved his mic next to his mouth, and did a quick check to make sure everything was working.
The clock ticked down from ten seconds, and Kenma straightened up to be ready to greet his watchers like he always does.
Once the time finished counting down, he waited for the camera to turn on to begin his usual chat with the viewers.
"Hey guys! Welcome back to another gameplay! How are you doing today?" Kenma said raptly but still in a monotone.
He read his comments. Some responded with 'Eh, I could be better' and 'Good now that you're online'.
He formed a small grin on his lips. "Really? That's good to know you guys are doing alright." He grabs his instant cup noodles, and picks up his plastic fork to use to eat. He swirls his fork around in the broth to pick up some noodles onto the fork, and lifts them to his lips to lightly blow onto them to cool them down. He puts the fork into his mouth once he is satisfied, and bites down onto the fork and slides the fork from between his teeth. He chews the food as he continues to read the comments.
One comment made him almost giggle. It came from the username; T_Rooster.
It read, "You need real food, Kenma."
Kenma swallows his food to respond to the comment. "Nah, I don't have the energy to make real food. Instant ramen is all I need in my life."
T_Rooster replied with; "That's still not healthy. Eat vegetables or something."
Kenma rolls his eyes, picks up a cut up carrot from his broth, and shows it to his camera with a smile. "You mean like this?" He puts the carrot into his mouth and chews it and looks for the response.
"If you think you're fine, then i'm not going to say anything further." T_Rooster commented.
Kenma puts down his instant ramen. "Thank you T underscore Rooster. Now everyone, let's vote for a game for me to play."
Kenma leaned into his chair and read the comments to pick a game to play.
A few minutes later, he sits up and says. "Okay, it's either the new zombie game, animal crossing, or a horror game."
Kenma didn't despise horror games, but he wasn't fond of being jumpscared at the horrific sights on his screen.
To his luck, the majority of his comments chose the zombie game more than the horror game. He sighed in relief. "The zombie game it is."
Kenma puts on the zombie game onto his screen, and begins to play it, ignoring the donations happening throughout his gameplay.
He was zoned into the game. The dead-but alive character was wobbling towards his character at a slow pace, and he bent down to the ground using his equipped CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical gun to aim for the heart. He shoots the zombie down, which gained him a few points.
He runs to his car, that he had parked a few minutes ago to go fetch the gun he equipped now, and climbs into it. He tries his best to maneuver the car to the next location using his map on the screen.
"Shit!" Kenma cusses when he accidentally ran over an innocent citizen running away from a running zombie. That single run cost him a few points. But not a lot to cost him anything.
He continued to drive past a swarm of zombies that started to chase his car, and he kept his eye on the map to not let the zombies distract him from his mission.
After a bunch of sharp turns and missed turns, Kenma made it to his destination and completed his first level successfully.
"Damn you guys, that was stressful." Kenma sighed as he slouched down in his seat. "Who knew zombies were such assholes?"
Kenma picked up his phone to check for any calls he missed and noticed the time. "Oh, I've been playing for two hours straight. That wasn't that long."
Kenma puts down his phone, and reads over his comments. "Thanks for the donations guys, I'm very grateful for them." Kenma smiles. "What else should I play for you?"
"Hmm? What's up with everyone asking me to play Five Nights At Freddy's?" Kenma raises an eyebrow. "Is there an update?"
Kenma reaches for his half-empty energy drink can to take a swig from it. "There's an update? What build do I have to play?"
He sat his can down and used his mouse to find the game in his computer. "Alright, so you're telling me to do this to get the secret ending? Okay then."
Kenma did as his fans asked to find the build and began to play the game. He kept his guard up knowing the game had unexpected jumpscares, and tried to wear an unfazed expression as best as he could to not look nervous.
"Fuck, fuck, close the door! Close the goddamn door!" Kenma panicked as he tried to click the button to close the door. He sighed when the metal door closed and relaxed his shoulders a bit. Kenma's eyes scanned the comments, as he waited out the animatronic that was awaiting to come in on the other side of the door. "Haha, I wasn't scared just startled at it's sudden presence."
T_Rooster commented "Sure, you did. Haha."
Kenma rolled his eyes before continuing to play the game.
A few minutes later, he started to hum a low tune as he checked the cameras. It was a song he's been hearing from his friend's phone every time someone calls. It sounded nice and soon enough Kenma hums it or sings it when he doesn't notice.
Kenma parted his lips slightly as he started to sing the words. He didn't notice he was, he was too focused on the cameras to pay attention.
By the time the screen showed 6 AM to show he beat the night, he clicked the menu to not continue to the next night and lean back into his chair.
"Finally!" Kenma let out a huge defeated sigh.
The music from the game was the only sound that could be heard at the moment, until the sound of someone donating yen to Kenma caused the male to snap his attention to the screen.
Kenma's mouth was open, his eyes were widened, and his heart was racing when he saw the amount of yen someone donated to him. It was no one other than T_Rooster.
The notification showed 1,000,000 yen donated by T_Rooster. The message that was typed by T_Rooster was something Kenma never saw someone type to him before. It read;
"Beautiful voice Kenma, mind using it at my next show?"
Kenma was completely baffled by the donation amount and message. Kenma starts to nervously laugh and licks his lips trying to think of a response. Usually people ask Kenma to dance knowing he couldn't or try to say words in English when he barely understood the language. He didn't mind doing those things, since he was comfortable trying to do them. But singing at a show with someone he'd never met was something he couldn't do.
The person could be a complete lunatic ready to snatch him up if he agreed like an idiot.
"Uh...T underscore Rooster...thanks for the donation. I really appreciate it and I am totally grateful for it, but I don't know you well enough to sing with you. Sorry." Kenma said as he felt a sense of guilt in the pit of his stomach. He didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings, he just couldn't let himself get kidnapped for trusting a stranger's words.
T_Rooster commented. "It's fine. I'll just try again till I am able to sing next to a beauty like you."
Kenma pulled on his hoodie strings as he swayed side to side in his game chair. "Whatever you say."
Soon it was time to bring his streaming session to an end. He had streamed for four hours straight and felt the fatigue consume him.
"Alright everyone, I have to go now, I need to go to sleep. I'll see you tomorrow at the next stream. Good night." Kenma said to his viewers before ending his stream.
He takes off his headphones and eyes his trash laid out in front of him. He groans as he picks them up to take them into his kitchen. He throws the trash away and walks back into his room, while tugging his hood onto his head.
Once he entered his room again, he threw himself onto his messily made king bed that smelled like lavender. He didn't bother getting under the covers before drifting off to sleep.
It might've been seven in the afternoon, but he had tired himself out by playing games all day. He deserved some shut eye.
Kenma roused awake by the sound of a blaring car horn. He sat up quick and looked out his window to see his neighbor climbing into a car. He scoffed and climbed out of bed to go to his restroom.
He did his business in the restroom before checking the time on his phone. He squinted at his screen since his room was dark and his phone screen was bright.
"Two in the morning?" Kenma murmured before putting his phone down. He did a sniff test to check himself. "I bathed yesterday when my game was updating, should I do it again?"
Kenma thought for a moment before convincing himself to go take another shower.
He picked out another oversized hoodie, boxers, and socks. It wasn't like he lived with anyone, so he could just skip the pants.
He grabbed his towel, and went inside the bathroom to shower.
He lifted his hoodie over his head, tossed it to the basket, slipped out of his pants, tossed them to the basket, and took off his socks to toss into the basket as well. He shivered at the loss of warmth, and quickly walked to the shower to wash in hot water.
He combed his fingers through his wet hair, before he opened his shampoo bottle to squeeze out a decent onto his hand. He puts the shampoo back, and massages the product into his hair thoroughly.
He hummed the song as he washed his body from top to bottom. He didn't know what about the song he liked so much, but he did-the tune of it was catchy.
Kenma hugged himself and let the hot water run off his body to savor the feeling. His low humming turned into a full on shower concert for his ears only. He raised his arms up and swayed his hips side to side while he sang the words loudly. The corners of his lips stretched up as he continued to be in his own moment.
He soon decided he showered long enough, and turned off the water-the steam from the hot water rose from his body as he made his way to his towel.
He wrapped the towel around his lower torso to cover himself, while he walked to his bedroom to get dressed.
He dried himself off, tossed the towel in the basket, slipped on his clothes, and jumped onto his bed feeling refreshed and clean.
"So warm…" Kenma's voice was muffled by his cover as he let himself lay there for an extra few minutes, before getting up to go sit at his gaming set up to play some early morning games.
He started up his computer, and sat down while putting the hood on his head along with the headphones. He brought his knees to his chest, and his sock covered feet fit comfortably on his gaming chair as he played games the rest of the morning.
Kenma was in the middle of a boss level trying not to get killed while his health bar was low, when his stomach growled as a sign that he was hungry.
He ignored the sound to continue to try to beat the level, but his stomach continued to growl to his despise. He paused his level making sure his character is far from the boss, so he can resume without getting killed.
He took off his headphones, and hopped off his gaming chair to go to his fridge to get something to eat.
When he made it into the semi-lit kitchen that smelt like nature-thanks to his diffuser-he opened his fridge to look for a quick snack. He pulled open the freezer part at the bottom to find anything. To his luck, he forgot to go grocery shopping again and was running low on food.
"Great." He mumbled as he checked the fridge part again to grab a small tub of yogurt.
He closed the fridge, went to his cabinet to grab some granola to mix in his yogurt, and reached for a clean spoon from his drawer and jogged back to his room.
He sat back into his chair with the spoon in his mouth, he took the spoon out of his mouth to scoop a nice serving from the tub.
He ate a few bites before putting the yogurt down, and continued to play his game without needing to hear his annoying stomach grumbling.
The sound of defeating a level filled the room and Kenma silently cheered in his head.
He noticed his phone that he never charged since yesterday sitting by his computer. He picked it up to check his notifications-that's when he noticed the time.
"Noon?" Kenma shrugs. "Oh well, who texted me?"
He scrolled down his unread messages to find the people he actually wanted to reply to-which are old volleyball friends he used to play with, his family, and some online gamer friends he managed to befriend.
He sighed after replying to everyone the best that he could and looked up at his game screen.
"I defeated almost all of the bosses, but i'm too bored to do anymore." Kenma stood up from his set up to walk to his closet to pick out a pair of pants to slip on, and walked out his room. He walked to his front door to slip on his shoes. "I mind as well go grocery shopping before I run out of food."
He slipped on his face mask to hide his face from the world, so he can avoid talking to people and put on his baseball cap to hide his hair. He didn't have a large fanbase but enough for people to know him from Nekoma's volleyball team and streaming.
He wrapped his hand around his door handle, he took a deep breath, opened his door to reveal sunny weather. He stepped out of his home, locked the door behind him, and walked to his car without looking up to meet his neighbor's eyes. He knew they were outside but he didn't want to be social today.
He unlocked his car, climbed in, and shut the door. He locked his doors and leaned back onto the driver's seat. He lazily stabbed his key into the ignition to start his car. It roared to life and he fixed himself, and drove away from his home and onto the road to his local grocery store.
He carried his last bags into his home, and closed the door behind him and tried to catch his breath.
He had to make three trips to bring in his groceries. He knew he bought too much food, but anything better than needing to get out for another week. He threw off his shoes and put away his groceries in the kitchen.
He thanked his daily reminder app to let him know to check his gauge to make sure his car was full. He was low on gas, and went to fill his tank while out as well.
He went to his room to lay on his bed to relax for a few minutes before he had to do his stream.
The sound of his phone alarm roused him awake, he didn't hesitate to sit up, and climb out of bed to fetch for his phone remembering the battery percentage.
He plugged the phone up after snoozing his alarm and went to his game chair to sit in it.
He put on his headphones and went to his stream to see he had a few minutes till he was live. He noticed his yogurt still out, and quickly stood up to put it in the fridge and ran back to sit down. He put his cold soda can onto his desk, and stared at the screen to wait for it to finish counting down.
The moment he was live, he wore his usual greeting smile at the camera and began his stream.
"Hi everyone! How have you been since my last stream?" Kenma read his comments. "Oh really? Well, I have been good too."
His eyes saw T_Rooster commented. "Did you eat healthy today?"
"What's up with him and being worried for my health?" Kenma thought to himself.
"Uh yes I did, I ate yogurt with granola."
"Only yogurt and granola?" T_Rooster commented.
Kenma felt his eye twitch a little reading the comment. "Yes...only them."
"At least you ate something." T_Rooster commented.
Kenma flashed his screen with a fake smile to show his annoyance without being impolite. "Alright, so what game should I play today?"
He picked up his cat plushie to play with it while he waited. He ran his finger over its soft fake ears and nose. He smiled softly at the plushie, before looking back up to read what everyone voted for.
"Oh, you want me to play Animal Crossing? Okay then." Kenma put the plushie down and began to set up everything so they could see his screen. He began his game once he did.
"I get to do Beach Ambassador...cool." Kenma mumbled.
He completed that mission and put down his game. "Time for a new game." Kenma said. "Pick a new game for me to play."
The notification for when someone donated appeared on his screen. Kenma reread the amount of yen over and over again in disbelief.
He mouthed "What the hell?" as he was staring at it.
2,100,000 yen donated by T_Rooster.
Kenma read the message attached to the donation. "Please reconsider singing next to me at my show. I'll be blessed to be able to have at least ten minutes with you on stage."
Kenma bit down on his bottom lip. "S-sorry T underscore Rooster, I can't. I don't know you too well to do that."
He awaited the fan's response.
After two minutes, T_Rooster commented. "That's fine. I'll try again tomorrow."
Then not even a few seconds later, T_Rooster donated 10,000 yen.
"If you could, can you eat a vegetable?" T_Rooster commented.
Kenma sighed in defeat. "Fine."
Kenma got up from his chair to grab a carrot from his fridge, and returned with it in his hand. He waved the carrot in front of the camera before taking a bite out of it.
"Thanks." T_Rooster commented.
Kenma nodded and continued to eat the carrot. "Now everyone, I see you want me to play a horror game, I guess I'll do it after I finish this carrot."
Kenma took his time to finish the carrot and began to play the horror game. He couldn't contain his loud screams everytime he got jumpscared and sweated from fear.
He was never going to recover from this intense horror game anytime soon.
Kenma soon ended his stream thinking about the two huge amounts of yen T_Rooster donated, and thought it was some over the top admirer that just wanted to trick him into seeing him.
"He'll stop soon." Kenma said before going to his bed to sleep.
Next stream, Kenma expected the donation, but the amount grew to 3,000,000 yen this time.
Kenma didn't say much except the same thing. "Sorry, I can't."
He let out a frustrated sigh after he ended that stream, and pinched the bridge of his nose with his index finger and thumb. "He needs to get 'no' through his head. That one is a weird one."
The next stream, it went up to 4,000,000 yen.
The stream after that-5,000,000 yen.
And after that one-6,000,000 yen.
Kenma could feel his blood boil as he sat there without his usual greeting looking at his live. He didn't say anything except "If you donate again with that same plea, i'll be kicking your ass."
Kenma didn't see T_Rooster comment and sighed thinking the person had given up.
After two hours of streaming, he had felt better without seeing that person active for the first time in days.
But then he felt his breath hitched in his throat.
10,500,600 yen donated by T_Rooster. "Once again, please think about it Kenma."
Kenma threw his hands up in defeat. "You know what T underscore Rooster, fine, fine! I'll message you about this 'singing' thing."
Kenma ended his stream and went straight to his private messages to message T_Rooster.
Kenma: Hello.
T_Rooster: Hello Kenma, so have you thought it over?
Kenma: First of all, who are you? Are you known for singing?
T_Rooster: I see you don't know my stage name. It's Kuroo Tetsurou, it's also my real name.
Kenma: Weird, that's the name of that japanese male singer with the bedhead.
T_Rooster: I know I have a bedhead. Why does everyone point it out like that?
Kenma: If you are really Kuroo Tetsurou, then you shouldn't mind video calling me to prove that.
T_Rooster: I don't mind but you might regret it. I'm known for being hot.
Kenma: I'm not interested in drooling over self-absorbed men. What's your number?
T_Rooster: I am not self-absorbed, but it's xxx-xxx-xxxx
Kenma: Thanks. My area code is xxx so look out for that number.
T_Rooster: Alright.
Kenma sighed before dialing the number into his now charged phone. He pressed the video call button and waited for the person to pick up.
Ring…
Ring…
"Hey." The male says once he accepted Kenma's call.
Kenma's eyes stared at his phone screen in disbelief. The male had the facial features of Kuroo Tetsurou, had the voice of Kuroo Tetsurou, but was it really Kuroo Tetsurou?
"H-hi." Kenma responded trying to build back his composure.
"You believe me know, Kenma?"
"You sure do resemble him and sound like him." Kenma said.
Kuroo barked out a laugh. "Even though you are looking at my face and hearing my voice, you still don't think i'm Kuroo Tetsurou."
"Yeah, I don't."
Kuroo sighs. "What more do I have to do?"
"I don't know…"
Kuroo combs his fingers through his bed hair. "How about you just come to my concert to see me in person? If I prove you right, then you have to sing with me."
"And what if i'm right?"
"I'll do whatever you ask."
"I already have an idea in mind." Kenma said with a tone of interest. He was ready to prove the male wrong. "You have to stop donating on my streams, or at least stop donating so much yen."
"But 1,000,000 yen isn't a lot."
Kenma exhaled heavily. "Just-please agree to this or i'll just ignore you."
Kuroo smiles. "Alright deal. Arrive a little early so we can talk uninterrupted."
"Text me the address and time so I won't forget."
"Okay Kenma."
Kenma hangs up and stands up out of his chair. "He'll be the one wrong. There's no way the Kuroo Tetsurou watches my streams and wants me to sing with him. There's no way."
Kenma had worn a plain black tee with skinny jeans and black sneakers. He covered the top of his head with a black baseball cap, and checked to make sure his pepper spray was full. He wasn't going to let himself get trapped by a crazy liar.
He drove to the address the bed-headed male provided him.
Some part of him felt nervous, he didn't know why. It was like he was walking into a world he didn't belong in, but at the same time he mentally convinced himself that the guy was just interested in Kenma like a crush would. A guy that lies about being a kpop singer with millions of fans in love with him that likes Kenma's singing.
He won't let a liar bring his hopes up into thinking Kuroo Tetsurou actually likes him. If he did-Kenma might just dig a hole and hide in it.
But just in case it was the real Kuroo Tetsurou-Kenma used a sweet scented wash to smell nicer.
The moment Kenma passed a security check on the road-his heart was racing faster than usual.
"M-maybe the location is just in the same direction." Kenma thought while biting down on his bottom lip trying not to draw blood.
He saw an arena come into view-the same arena Kuroo Tetsurou is supposed to perform at.
Kenma's eyes checked the global positioning system for confirmation on the location.
Destination is a few yards ahead to the right.
Kenma started to panic a little. There was no way someone could be here before the concert started in a few hours-two hours to be more specific.
Kenma was a bit early if he was honest, but he just wanted to be proved right so he could go back home.
He put on his signal to turn right, which was the arena unfortunately.
His hands clutched on the steering wheel as he turned, his knuckles turning pale. He wasn't trying to confront the male in fear, but he couldn't help it. This is where Kuroo Tetsurou was-the person that sung the song he hums on his streams. If it is Kuroo Tetsurou-he already signed his reputation away on his stream.
He slowed his car to a stop before shifting the gear stick to park. He turned off his engine before resting his forehead on his steering wheel to silently pray to himself that it isn't Kuroo Tetsurou.
He peeked above his dashboard to check his surroundings.
A few cars parked-he was instructed to park here away from the entrance so there shouldn't be a lot of cars anyway.
He scanned the parking lot for any people just standing around. No one was in the parking lot.
"I am early so he might be still on the way." Kenma mumbled.
Kenma, feeling a bit curious, decided to climb out of his car to check out the building from the outside.
He closed his door behind him and slowly walked across the parking lot. His eyes looked out for anyone that resembled Kuroo.
He stood in front of the door that had 'Exit' in red neon letters above the door frame. He didn't want to be kicked out for not having a ticket or pass, so he observed the door wondering how it felt to be a worldwide idol.
He could hear faint footsteps approaching the door, so he ran to the other side to hide himself behind the door when it opened to not be seen.
The door opened followed by the sound of a male saying. "Yeah, I got it, let me just wait for him really quick. It won't take more than an hour at most."
Kenma watched as a six foot something male with bed hair stepped out the door. He wore what usual male kpop artists would dress in, and his ear had a dangle earring on it. His breath hitched in his throat as he slapped his hand over his mouth to keep quiet to not be seen.
The door closed with a slam and the tall male didn't notice Kenma yet. His eyes scanned the parking lot before taking out his phone from his pocket.
A few seconds later, Kenma's phone dinged, causing the shorter male to flinch in horror. He had forgotten to put his phone on silent.
The kpop looking male slowly turned his head in Kenma's direction.
The male tilted his head to the side before saying. "Uh hey? Are you supposed to be out here?"
"Can he not...see me?" Kenma thought as he yanked his cap down more to cover his face.
Kenma cleared his throat in an attempt to mask his voice. "I...uh...no?"
"The entrance is over there if you're here for the concert." The male said while pointing in the direction.
"T-thank you." Kenma stuttered while masking his voice. He took that chance to speed walk across the parking lot.
The male sighed before doing something on his phone and bringing it to his ear.
Before Kenma could make it to his car, his phone rang loudly from his pocket. His heart sank when realization hit him quickly-his viewers on his stream knew his ringtone. He always ignored it while playing and never cared to put his phone on silent before playing.
Kenma, with sweaty hands, slowly took his phone out of his pocket to answer it. As he spoke, he turned around to eye the male across the parking lot. "H-hi…"
The taller male's eyes grew wide as he looked at Kenma. "Kenma?"
Kenma gulped before slowly removing his cap off his head. "Yes...it's me."
"Did you just...try to run from me?" the taller male asked as he slowly made his way to Kenma.
"I-I...yes?"
Without a doubt, the male in front of Kenma was the Kuroo Tetsurou. He stood there in shock before lowering the phone from his ear.
"Kenma...why?"
Kenma looked down. "I didn't know you were telling the truth...I-I'm not mentally prepared to be talking to you right now."
Kuroo eyed Kenma up and down. "To me, you look like you got prepared."
"S-so what? Can I get dressed to see someone?"
Kuroo grins. "I never said you couldn't, but I'm glad you decided to come. Are you...impressed?"
"Not impressed, more like...confused."
"Why?"
"Why me?" Kenma looked up at Kuroo, his cheeks were a shade of light pink. Clearly from embarrassment. "You could've chosen anyone else, why me?"
Kuroo wore a soft expression on his face, he looked into Kenma's eyes, causing Kenma to get flustered and turn a darker shade of red. "I fell in love with your voice, your charisma, your personality-mostly just you. I would be honored to have you sing tonight next to me, and hopefully I can gain the chance to take you out for dinner afterwards."
Kenma, being already flustered and shy, was caught off guard by the confession. "Uh...what? Me?"
Kuroo nods. "Yes you. Is that alright?"
"L-let me get this straight." Kenma could hear his heartbeat in his ears at this point. "You donate a bunch of yen to me, you comment about me not being healthy on almost every stream, and now you want to take me out for dinner if I sing?"
"That's a good way to sum it up."
"Again, what is so special about me? You say you love my voice, charisma, and personality. But can you tell me in detail why you like me?"
Kuroo chuckles, "If that's what you want then sure." Kuroo crosses his arms over his chest. "Okay, so when you sing, I love how you look so entranced while singing. It's cute. Your voice is so beautiful, honestly, I could listen to it for hours without getting tired of it. It's so angelic, calming, and original. It fits with your charisma. You attracted me with your ability to send butterflies in my stomach with no effort at all. And finally your personality."
Kuroo removed one of his arms from his chest, used his index finger to slightly lift Kenma's face up by his chin to look up at him. "Your personality is unique, which I love, you're an introverted streamer that plays games for hours, you love to get challenged to prove you can win, you have a thing for not giving up no matter how hard it is, you're kind, patient, and oh so lovable-" Kuroo feels Kenma's hair with his fingers. "It's honestly scary how you snagged my heart like this."
"W-when did you...um...feel like this?" Kenma asked.
"A few months ago. I've been watching your streams after a late night concert, a long recording session, and after an interview or I've gotten swarmed with fans."
"How did you find me?"
"I was trying to find a review on a video game I wanted to try out. I looked online for at least one to convince me enough to play it, then I saw an old stream of you that played the game. Ever since then, I would make it my priority to watch your streams on time."
"But I don't love you like you love me, I mean, I admire you as an idol like everyone else but-" Kuroo cut off Kenma's words by pressing a finger to his lips.
"It's okay Kenma, I can wait. Who said it would take over night for you to love me too?" He said after removing his finger and placing it on Kenma's shoulder.
"It's just...I feel bad for not feeling the same."
"If you sing with me tonight and go to dinner with me, I'll feel like i'm on cloud nine."
"Sing what?"
"My album. Just sing with me like a duet. It'll be fun."
"If it's alright, then sure…"
"Great!" Kuroo's face lit up in excitement.
Kenma suddenly grabbed the hem of his shirt. "B-but there'll be a huge crowd of people watching me."
"They'll love you." Kuroo said in a gentle tone, almost soothing.
Kenma pressed his lips together to form a thin line. "I-I don't know...they might not like it that I'm on stage with you. I mean...you're literally famous all around the world."
"I will be there the entire time with you, just pretend that we're the only ones on stage. The crowd will be invisible." Kuroo places his hand on Kenma's cheek and uses his thumb to caress it. "Just look into my eyes the entire time to ignore the crowd if you want to."
"I mean...I can try."
"Really?"
"Yes, I think I can do it. But promise me-if I can't stand there anymore. Allow me to go home or at least go backstage for the rest of the show."
"Sure, I can do that for you Kenma. Anything for you to feel comfortable with me."
"Thank you."
"Are you ready to try singing with me now?"
Kenma took a deep breath. "Ready as I'll ever be."
Kenma could hear the restless crowd as Kuroo fixed his headset. He didn't want to admit that he was still nervous knowing over a thousand pairs of eyes was going to be watching him.
Kuroo must've noticed this and playfully patted Kenma's head. "Don't overthink this. Think of this like a virtual reality game, and you're in your living room right now."
Kenma did his best to imagine, but the presence of Kuroo wasn't helping. Knowing the real life kpop star was standing in front of him was enough.
Kenma knew it was time when Kuroo grabbed his hand, and gently pulled him onto stage.
A tumultuous crowd watched the two males walk onto stage. Their eyes glued on both Kuroo and Kenma. A wave of whispers and cheers filling the arena.
Kuroo brought the microphone up to his lips to speak once they reached the middle of the stage. "How's my loving fans doing tonight?" Kuroo said without letting go of Kenma's hand.
A loud 'Good' filled their ears.
"That's good, that's good," Kuroo eyes Kenma. "I want to introduce someone to you all. This person right here is Kenma. A streamer that plays video games on live. He sings so beautifully while playing that I couldn't help, but bring him on stage for you to hear too."
Kenma blushed from hearing Kuroo's sweet words again.
"If you could listen to him tonight, that would be amazing." Kuroo said. "Kenma, you want to say a few words?"
"Uh…" Kenma's eyes scanned the packed arena. His legs trembled and his mind was blank. "Uh...um…"
Kenma felt something touch his chin before turning it to face Kuroo. Kuroo smiles and nods at Kenma.
"I just wanted to say I hope you like the performance tonight." Kenma said without looking away from Kuroo's eyes. If warmth could be felt by just looking at someone else-than Kenma discovered that feeling by staring into Kuroo's eyes. His eyes felt so warm. Kenma calmed down by the time the first song started to play.
The entire performance was both of them singing in sync, holding hands, and looking at the crowd with a smile.
Kenma had to admit-he enjoyed singing on stage for the first time. Especially next to Kuroo, the person who so happened to be in love with him.
They bowed to end their performance for the night, and gracefully walked off stage.
Kenma and Kuroo were sweating and accepted the towel from Kuroo's manager to dry off.
Kuroo took a sip out of his water. "That was exciting, right?"
"Yeah, it was." Kenma answered while he checked his phone. He had to do his live stream in a few hours, which he knew he'll be too exhausted to do from the long concert he did with Kuroo.
"Want to come backstage with me to my dressing room to calm down?" Kuroo asked.
Kenma nods. "Sure, why not?"
Kuroo grins, and walks away with Kenma behind him to lead him to his dressing room.
Kuroo opened the door to his dressing room, he flicked on the light to reveal a beautiful sight.
There was a row of vanity mirrors with stools in front of each one, the walls was painted cherry red, there was a black three-seater chesterfield couch with decorative pillows, a coylin coffee table that had a flower vase on top with daisies inside, and closet rack organizer on the other side of the room with clothes and shoes.
Kenma walked in behind Kuroo and smelled a sweet scent in the air. He looked around to find the source of the scent to see a lit candle on the table. It was strawberry scented.
Kuroo sat down on the couch, patted a seat next to him, and Kenma sat down next to him. A foot of space between the both of them.
"So...uh...do you...like it?" Kuroo asked as he eyed his own dressing room.
Kenma shrugs. "It's nice."
Kuroo leaned back, stretching his arms out on either side of him. One arm behind Kenma and the other one on the other side of him. He spread his legs out some to get comfortable and sighed. "You made my concert in Tokyo fun."
"You're on tour or something?"
"Yeah but I have to do two more places, before I can take it easy to do whatever I want."
"When do you leave?"
"In two days, I have to perform in Gifu then Yamaguchi."
"Can't you take planes to get there?"
"Technically yes, but I have to ride for hours instead in a plane."
"I don't know how kpop stars can do it. I would be socially drained by now."
"At first, it was hard to do it, knowing I had to stick to a strict diet to stay fit, but now they are letting me take it easy on my eating habits as long as I work it off before I perform."
"I admire that. Being dedicated to do something you love without complaining."
"Eh, I won't lie that I miss binge eating on weekends with ice creams and junk food."
"I don't eat much of anything, so binge eating sounds so foreign to me. I get full from instant noodles or apple pie."
"You like apple pie?"
"That's my favorite dessert."
"Really? Then let's order apple pie at the restaurant."
A low scoff escapes Kenma's lips as he looks at Kuroo. "You think i'll agree because of one concert with you?"
"I know you will because I won't give up on letting this chance go by."
"You're lucky I'm coincidentally hungry."
Kuroo barks out a laugh. "Yeah coincidentally not like you forgot to eat today again."
"You sound like a hyena."
"So mean."
"Are we going to the restaurant now or not?"
Kuroo shakes his head and stands up onto his feet. "Cold as ever I see."
"Not trying to be cold just not really...nice?"
"What did I ever do to you?" Kuroo asked while fixing his hair in the mirror.
"Nag about my health in my comments for days. I, at least, have the right to be upset at you about it."
"Why?"
"It's my body. You're not my mom to be worried about it."
Kuroo squats in front of Kenma. "Is it really that bad that I want my crush to be healthy?"
Kenma felt his face heat up from what Kuroo said and looked away. "D-don't say things like that so casually."
"I can't lie about how I feel for you, Kenma. If I could take you with me, I would show you that you are my new world."
Kenma put his hands over his face to hide his obvious blush. "If your fans heard you say that to me, they'll be sad or worst-come after me."
Kuroo gently grabs Kenma's hands to remove them from his face. "My fans will know someday that you are my world, and when that day comes i'm sure they'll love you too."
"Are you sure you don't say this to your fans too?"
"People might call me a flirt, a sexgod, a player-whatever. But one thing I don't say often is my feelings, I know it's hard to believe me, since we haven't met that long but give me the opportunity to win a place in your heart. Please Kenma."
Kenma hesitated before slowly nodding. "I-If you're serious then fine, but if you turn out to be a jerk in the end. I am obliged to ban you from my stream and block you from my phone."
"I promise I won't turn out like that." Kuroo stood back up without letting go of Kenma's hands. "Ready?"
"Y-yeah."
Kenma and Kuroo climbed into their own cars, and drove to the restaurant Kuroo picked.
Out of the corner of his eye and looking at the side mirror, Kenma could see a car following them. He tried to look at the road and the side mirror to look at who's inside.
Kenma could see an outline of a guy holding a camera out his window to take pictures of the cars.
"Shit." Kenma mumbled as he used his bluetooth earphones to call Kuroo. Once Kuroo picked up, he didn't waste time telling him the situation. "Kuroo, there's a reporter following us."
"Dammit, I thought they were at the entrance."
"They might've figured out you weren't going that way, since I was the guest singer tonight."
"Seems like it. Okay, so we might need to shake him off."
"Okay, what do I need to do?"
"Follow me and do exactly what I do."
"Got it."
Kuroo and Kenma slid in between the cars on the road, and took an exit to shake off the reporter.
"I can't believe that worked." Kenma said.
"I always have to do that whenever I sneak away from my own event."
"We better not get stopped by the police."
"They're not."
"This isn't a driving game, they might."
"I'll bet you another date that they won't."
"Seriously Kuroo, you really are wanting to win me over."
"I said I do."
"Fine...deal."
"You love doing bets, huh?"
"No, I'm just wanting to prove you wrong this time."
"You lost the first bet, so what makes you so sure you'll win this one?"
"I'm not sure but i'll cross my fingers."
"Not while driving you're not."
"Metaphorically you idiot."
"Haha, just making sure."
They arrive at the restaurant safely, and walk in together to a table with the help of a waitress. A table for two.
Kuroo pulled out a chair for Kenma, and Kenma shyly sat down and let Kuroo push him in. Kuroo sat in his own seat, and both of them placed a napkin on their laps.
"What drinks would you two like to order first?" The waitress asked, holding a notepad and pen.
Kuroo looks at the menu. "Do you guys have ramune here?"
"Yes we do."
"I'll like to have that."
"Okay." The waitress writes down Kuroo's order and turns to Kenma. "And you?"
Kenma gripped his seat trying to say his words to the waitress, but his mind went blank trying to find something to say. "I..uh…"
Kuroo noticed Kenma's behavior and spoke up for him. "He'll have green tea."
The waitress writes it down and bows. "It'll be ready soon."
"Thank you."
The waitress walks away and Kenma exhales a breath he was unconsciously holding in.
"S-sorry." Kenma mumbles. "I'm just not mentally prepared to talk so naturally yet."
"Kenma, it's fine. You can just let me order for you."
"Thank you Kuroo. You're so nice to me."
"My pleasure. Let me know what to order for you."
"I'm not picky, but if it's not gross then I don't mind."
"Okay." Kuroo looks at his menu. "You want to try sushi."
"I never tried that, is it good?"
"Better than instant noodles, that's for sure."
Kenma gave up on arguing about his health with Kuroo. "If you say so."
"Here you two go. One green tea and one ramune." The waitress says as she places the drinks in front of them. "Are you ready to order yet?"
"Yes." Kuroo says with a smile. "I would like to order sushi for both of us."
She jots it down and nods. "Coming right up." She says before leaving the table.
Kuroo rests his elbow on the table and puts his chin on his palm. "Can you answer some questions I have in mind?"
"Are they weird questions?"
"Who knows?"
"Ask me I guess."
"First question, what made you stop playing volleyball?"
"I didn't want to pursue a career in volleyball, as much as I loved playing it. I let go of it once I graduated high school."
"Cool, what position did you play?"
"Setter and I was Captain by my third year. It was mostly stressful from pressure to keep the team together, but I brought us to nationals surprisingly."
"I could never imagine myself being an athlete. I'm too wrapped around singing to do that."
"Can I ask you a question too?"
"Sure."
"What made you sing in the first place?"
"I was eight when I sang for my talent show, and luckily someone's dad was a manager to sign me. I started singing for kid shows, toy commercials, ecstera. Then I was put on a more mature theme in my music when I was eighteen."
"Do you enjoy the modeling part of it?"
"I can't lie that I was scared shitless showing off my body to a camera. It didn't matter if I still wore my boxers. I was being exposed to millions of people I didn't know. But after a while I got used to it."
"I wish I was confident and reserved like you. If I was doing that, I would be too terrified to do anything."
"Who said I wasn't scared to sing at first?"
"You sing so well and naturally so I thought..."
"It took me one whole year to even gain the balls to sing by myself on stage. My talent show was just a small step to my confidence. My mom had to help me calm down so I could get on stage. She was an amazing person."
"What happened to her?"
"She died from an asthma attack."
"I'm sorry…"
"Don't say sorry, you didn't know. It's been a while now. I'm over it."
"But isn't asthma...genetic?"
Kuroo shrugs. "I don't have it. My respiratory system is stable and functional."
"Sometimes asthma takes time to show symptoms that you have it."
"I hope I don't have it. I want to learn how to play volleyball by you."
"It's a sport that takes time and dedication to learn."
"I'm willing to learn if it means more time with you."
"I still want to ask why you like me so much, but then you'll give me a long rant about it."
Kuroo smiles. "Right because I want you to understand how much I want you to be mine."
"I can't promise that I'll return your feelings so easily."
"I have luck on my side."
"Luck might not be that depending."
"It can if I don't give up."
Kenma mumbled something underneath his breath before saying. "I have never met someone so willing to be with me and get to know me."
"That means I'll be your first for everything."
Kenma blushes. "Y-yeah it does."
"So this is your first date ever?"
"Y-yeah."
"I feel so happy right now, you don't even know."
"All we're doing is talking and sitting."
"And that is what makes this so memorable. As long as i'm with you, I feel special."
"D-don't say embarrassing things like that."
"Nope." Kuroo looks at Kenma with eyes filled with admiration. "I want to make sure you don't forget my words."
Kenma felt his heart skip a beat but ignored it. "Kuro…"
"Hmm? You called me Kuro?"
"Sorry I mispronounced it."
"No, no, it's fine. It sounds cute when you do."
"Don't call me cute..."
"But you are Kenma."
Kenma averts his eyes to his hands. "You're making me shy."
"I am? Then that means I have an effect on you."
"It could be that you're a famous celebrity choosing me out of seven billion people on earth."
"And i'll choose you again because you're worth more than money to me."
"I-I...Kuro…"
"Has anyone told you that you look like a cat?"
"My mom has but that was years ago."
"Well you do, you look like one adorable kitten."
"I-I'm not a cat."
"I know but to me you look so cute and huggable. I can't resist not touching your hair."
"You already have so you can if you want. As long as you don't do anything weird."
"I won't."
"Here's your food." The waitress said as she placed the sushi in front of both of them. "Enjoy."
She walks away from the table, and the two of them look at each other and the sushi.
Kuroo took the first bite. "Mmm...that's good."
Kenma took his time picking up his chopsticks, and picked up one of the sushi off his plate. He took a small bite out of the sushi and tried to figure out if he liked it.
"So?"
Kenma swallowed the sushi and said. "It's good."
"I know right." Kuroo said as he began to eat his sushi.
Kenma giggled at Kuroo stuffing his face. "Cute…" Kenma thought to himself before eating his sushi too.
Kenma walked inside his home and closed the door behind him. He slipped off his shoes and went straight for his room.
He tossed himself on his bed feeling tired out.
A loud ding from his phone caused him to sit up and check his phone.
T_Rooster: You made it home safely?
Kenma: Yes I did. Thank you for today.
T_Rooster: Anytime. Also, that next date will be at a bowling alley.
Kenma: Forgot about that bet. Fine, when we're going?
T_Rooster: Is tomorrow okay?
Kenma: Yeah.
T_Rooster: Great. Goodnight Kenma 3
Kenma: Goodnight Kuro.
Kenma stared at his screen for a minute before deciding to change his contact name to Kuro.
He put his phone down and went to shower before he did his stream that night.
He barely focused on his game though, the night kept playing in his head. From meeting Kuroo in person for the first time to the dinner. It was also because he saw his comment appear in his chat.
T_Rooster commented. "I see you're doing your stream. Try to sleep afterwards."
Kenma nods. "Okay I'll sleep when i'm finished."
T_Rooster commented: "Okay, i'll be offline now to sleep."
"Sweet dreams."
The next morning, Kenma woke up a bit earlier than he usually does, and decided to attempt to make himself breakfast.
He cracked an egg on the rim of his bowl, used his thumbs to open the shell slowly, and watched the yolk fall into the bowl with the other yolk. He threw the shells into the trash can, and picked up his whisk to whisk his yolk.
As he whisked, he tossed in chopped bell peppers, seasoning, diced ham, tomatoes, and fresh herbs he had to use before it expired.
He eyed the butter he put into the non-stick skillet earlier to see if it was ready for the egg-it was ready.
He poured the egg into the skillet, and started to cook his omelette while he put extra toppings on it like shredded cheese.
Once his omelette was finished, he put it onto his plate and put it onto the island countertop.
He cleaned up his mess, grabbed his plate and drink, and went to eat his breakfast at his dining table.
"Not bad…" Kenma mumbled when he tasted his cooking. "Just not as good as my moms."
Kenma spaced out while he ate his food to reminisce yesterday.
He could still feel the excitement he felt being on stage, and singing his heart out in front of people who seemed to like his singing. Kuroo held his hand the entire time to keep Kenma reassured that he wasn't alone, and didn't make fun of his social anxiety once.
Did Kuroo really like him honestly? He did look genuine with his words. But although he said why he liked Kenma, what made him so sure Kenma would like him back? Why is he so confident? So brave? So...out of his league, yet he wants Kenma to know that they aren't so different.
Kenma might not have experienced love before, but the feeling of care was experienced yesterday. And...he liked it.
Once he finished his breakfast, he washed the dishes, and went to his room to pick out an outfit to wear when his phone rang.
He picked it up and answered it.
"Hello?" Kenma answered in a monotone.
"Kenma! Hey!" Kuroo responded in an excited tone.
"Why are you so excited for? We don't meet up for another two to three hours."
"I just felt calling you. My manager left me alone to go get some food and I randomly thought of you. So did you eat today?"
"I ate an omelette." Kenma replied purposely ignoring the 'thought of you' part.
"Really? Such an improvement on your eating habits."
"Shut up Kuro."
Kuroo barks out a laugh, and sounded like he knocked something off in the background. "Shit."
"What was that?"
"Uh...just my laptop. Don't worry it didn't break...I think."
"Check the buttons and touchpad."
"Okay." Kuroo said before there was the sound of buttons clicking. "It still works."
"Alright."
"So, about the date, what are you wearing?"
"Why? Is it important to know?"
"No, I just wanted to know early I guess, but you don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I can wait till I see you."
"An oversized hoodie, skinny jeans, and some sneakers." Kenma replied while he held the outfit in his hands. "And you?"
"Same. I'm not over the top dresser if i'm outside of work anyway."
"I hope you're planning on putting on a cap to cover your head. I don't need a swarm of fans around us."
"I am, don't worry, I want this date to be private."
"Does your manager know?"
"Yeah, he's cool with it, he's the one driving me there to make sure I arrive safely."
"Just to let you know...I don't really know how to b-bowl. I only know about video game bowling."
Kuroo snorts. "Of course you only played it on a video game."
"S-shut up." Kenma puts his clothes on his dresser and sits on the edge of his bed.
"I'll show you how when we get there. It's easy once you get the hang of it."
"And the moment I do, I'll win."
"We'll see about that."
"Yeah, we'll see."
Kenma slipped his arms through the hoodie and yanked it down to cover his body. He left his hair down, but kept his scrunchie on his wrist just in case.
He grabbed his cologne, which he rarely uses, and by rarely-he last used it months ago to try it.
He sprayed it on his neck and wrist, put the bottle down, and checked himself out in the mirror he had leaning against his wall.
"I tried." Kenma murmured as he walked to his front door to slip on his shoes, and grabbed his cap and keys to go outside to his car.
He locked his door, went to his car, unlocked it, climbed inside, and closed the door. He fixed his cap on his head and started his car.
"He better not be late or i'm leaving." Kenma mumbled under his breath as he drove onto the road.
Kenma parked his car and looked for Kuroo's vehicle.
He saw his figure leaning against the driver side door, while he had his arms crossed over his chest.
To be sure it was him, Kenma dialed his number.
He watched as the figure put their phone to their ear. "Hello?"
Kenma sighed. "Oh it is you, you look like a damn bodyguard."
Kuroo chuckled. "I do? My body is just built that's all."
Kenma's eyes couldn't help but size him up and down. He bit back a compliment that was wanting to escape his lips. He didn't want Kuroo to know that he was indeed muscular for some reason.
"Don't flatter yourself." Kenma said as he climbed out his car and hung up his phone. "You're average."
Kuroo walks over to Kenma. "Average?"
"Yeah, Average." Kenma replied as he looked up at Kuroo in the eyes.
Kuroo scoffs and leans down to Kenma to his eye level. "You'll be holding your tongue, when I prove that i'm more than just a pretty voice and a pretty face."
Kenma felt his heart skip a beat seeing how close Kuroo was to his face. "Y-you're an idiot. I would never. Don't build up your ego."
Kuroo stood up straight. "I'll give it a week. You'll feel the same as me by then."
"You'll probably get bored of me before I do." Kenma tucked his hands into his hoodie as he mumbled that.
Kuroo used his index finger to force Kenma to look at him again. "You're not boring, Kenma. I really mean it when I say I like you a lot. You are so much fun to be with."
Kenma looked away. "You say that now, but both of us won't know by a week from now."
Kuroo wrapped his arms around Kenma, catching the smaller male off guard. Kenma could faintly hear the sound of Kuroo's beating heart. It was beating so fast-was he nervous? Scared?
"Kenma, don't take my feelings lightly. You are the first person I ever wanted to cherish so much in my life, the only one I could trade this life for in an instant, you're so amazing you just need to open your eyes to see-let me help you knock down those insecurities. I won't let you down, I promise."
Kenma's hands reached to grab onto Kuroo's back, and he hid his face in Kuroo's shoulder. He could smell Kuroo's cologne on him, and he felt his body melt into Kuroo's hug and relaxed.
"Are you always this soft?" Kenma teased, his words muffled from his face buried into Kuroo's shoulder.
"Only for you." Kuroo said as he tightened his hug a little.
"Careful. You'll break me with those big arms of yours."
"Right, because you're so skinny it's unbelievable."
"Kuro, I swear-"
"I'm kidding, Kenma. But seriously, don't put yourself down, i'm willing to be here for the long ride."
"Thanks Kuro." Kenma said before he playfully hit Kuroo's back. "Now let go of me, this hug has lasted long enough."
"One more minute, you're so warm, and fit so good in my arms I want to engrave this into my mind."
Kenma blushes. "You seriously need to stop saying embarrassing things so casually."
"I can't stop myself from telling you what I think."
Kenma gave up trying to get out of Kuroo's arms and sighed. "If this hug is that important, then I'll let you take all the time you need to savor it."
"Thank you, Kenma." Kuroo said.
Kenma rested his chin on Kuroo's shoulder and looked up at the sky. "Yeah, sure."
After what seemed like thirty minutes, they finally went inside to play bowling.
Kuroo taught Kenma how to play it after they switched shoes, and Kenma watched as Kuroo won by some points after he failed to score a strike.
Just as he was about to lose hope, he watched as the bowling pins fall down one after the other. The moment the last one fell, Kenma threw his hands up and jumped as he screamed in excitement.
Kuroo smiled. "Nice job, Kenma."
Kenma turned to Kuroo. "Thanks Kuro."
"I like that."
"Like what?" Kenma asked once he calmed down.
"Your smile. I like that. Wear it more often."
Kenma looked down to hide behind his hair. "I can try…"
"I would love that." Kuroo said. "Oh, it's my turn."
Kenma watched Kuroo take his time to roll his bowling ball to get a strike, and pouted in disbelief when Kuroo smirked at him when he got a strike.
"You look like a cute kitten, should I start calling you that?" Kuroo asked as he sat next to Kenma.
"I don't care." Kenma said as he stood up for his turn.
"You don't?" Kuroo puts his water bottle to his lips. "Okay, Kitten."
Kenma pretended to act calm when Kuroo called him 'Kitten', but his face was red and his heart sped up. Why did it sound different when Kuroo said it? Because it's been a while he was called that? Maybe.
Kenma rolled the ball, and sighed in relief when he knocked a few pins down.
"You got better in a short period of time. Nice."
"I'm still going to win." Kenma sat back down and leaned back against the chair.
"If you try, you might." Kuroo said as he was about to stand up. "Hey...can I ask you something?"
"What?" Kenma asked.
"Are you...feeling pressured to be with me? To hang with me? If you are...I don't mean to make you feel like. You know, because of my feelings for you…"
Kenma looked at Kuroo for a moment to think of his answer. He saw worry in Kuroo's eyes, and didn't want to say the wrong words to make the taller male feel worse.
"Kuro, I don't feel pressured, not exactly, I mean at first I felt pressured to sing, but you calmed me down by holding my hand the entire time. I actually enjoyed singing with you and having dinner with you. And now...bowling together...it's nice. I don't feel pressured. It feels good to take a break from video games for a while, and your attraction towards me doesn't affect my willingness to be here. It just reminds me that I have to try to return your feelings somehow, I know not to rush, so I am going to be around you and feel the same as you."
Kuroo let out a relieving sigh and smiled. "Okay, I wanted to make sure you wasn't pressured or uncomfortable."
Kenma playfully pushed Kuroo on the arm. "Now you know, so go do your turn already."
"Okay! Okay!" Kuroo said as he stood up to go bowl.
Kenma shook his head and eyed the seat where Kuroo sat. "Yeah...but how does it feel to be in love...Kuro?"
Kenma and Kuroo had eaten some ramen together after bowling, and said their goodbyes as they went their separate ways.
Once Kenma jumped onto his bed, feeling drained from the long day-his phone rang.
"Ugh…" Kenma rolled onto his back to reach for his phone and answered it. "Yes Kuro?"
"Made it home safely?"
Kenma sighed. "Yes, I did, and you?"
"I did."
"Good, now is that all you called for?"
"Don't stay up too late, Kitten, and remember i'm only one call away if you need me."
"I know Kuro."
"Hey, can we meet again tomorrow? I want to do something fun."
"How fun are we talking?"
"Like an entertainment center full of rides, video games, and everything else."
A soft giggle left Kenma's lips. "I'll go. What time tomorrow?"
"As soon as it opens."
"Isn't that in ten hours from now?"
"Yeah so?"
Kenma rolls his eyes. "You lucky it's somewhere fun. I'll go. See you there."
"Great, see you in ten hours."
"See you."
The line clicked and Kenma sat up. "I should shower."
Kenma took a long shower, put on some pajamas, and quickly did his stream-which lasted two hours so he could get some sleep in.
He buried himself under the covers and drifted to sleep.
Kenma parked his car next to Kuroo's vehicle, and both of them didn't waste time to start their fun together.
Kuroo had a few hours, until he had to go travel miles away to perform somewhere. So they had to try to do everything before he had to leave.
They went on rides, played games, did laser tag, raced in the cars, and some more fun that their hearts were drumming from excitement.
Kuroo checked the time-he had to leave soon.
Kuroo saw Kenma was playing at a claw machine, and went to him to see what he was trying to win.
A pushie cat. Kenma was trying to win a plushie cat and was concentrating hard to get it.
Kuroo didn't say a word and let him do his thing.
The sound of music let Kenma know he won. Kenma reached in and grabbed the plush cat. He looked at it for a second in his hands before handing it to Kuroo.
"Why are you handing it to me? To hold?" Kuroo asked him while raising an eyebrow.
Kenma shook his head. "To keep. Think of it as something to hug for a substitute for me."
Kenma saw how red Kuroo's cheeks turned as he took the plushie from Kenma.
"T-thank you, Kenma." Kuroo looked at the plush in his hands.
Kenma grinned. "Yeah, no problem."
Kuroo walked to Kenma and wrapped one arm around him. "It sucks that I have to leave."
"It's only for a few days."
"A few days is a long time for me. Especially now that I got to see you in person."
"You have to go. It's not like i'm going anywhere."
"I know...I wish I didn't have to leave."
"Kuro…" Kenma grabbed Kuroo's face in his hands and looked at him in the eyes. "When you return, we can do something else together."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
A loud shout from across the room made them flinch. "Oh my god! It's Kuroo Tetsurou!"
Kuroo grabbed Kenma's hand. "Let's run."
Kenma nodded in agreement and both of them ran out of the entertainment center together. Kuroo let go of Kenma's hand, so he can get into his own car and Kuroo can get in his as well.
Kenma watched the fans run by screaming, and sighed as he slouched in his car seat.
A few seconds later, Kuroo walked to his car door and Kenma opened it. Without words, Kuroo hugged Kenma again and Kenma hugged back.
After like five minutes, they broke the hug and smiled at each other.
"See you soon, Kenma." Kuroo said.
"Back at you, Kuro."
Kenma sat in his bedroom holding his phone, while he watched the other male reply to his message. It's been a day since Kuroo left for his tour, and Kenma had paused his game to text Kuroo while he had free time.
Kuro: You have to admit, I took you out for three dates, and made you shy a couple times.
Kenma: Who wouldn't? You flirt with me a lot.
Kuro: It worked. I took you out three times. I feel like I won a lottery.
Kenma: Yes it did work, now stop changing the topic. What new album are you releasing?
Kuro: No secrets getting out of me, all you have to know is that it's about falling in love.
Kenma: I bet the album cover is you being shirtless.
Kuro: Yeah, females and males buy it more if I am, so it increases sales and more likely more people will come to my concerts.
Kenma: That's true.
Kuro: Can I ask you something?
Kenma: Go ahead.
Kuro: Do you still listen to my music although we've met in person?
Kenma: Yeah I do, but only like two songs since my genre isn't really romance.
Kuro: If I die of happiness, I'm blaming you.
Kenma: Cheesy.
Kuro: Eh, thought it would work on you.
Kenma: I don't get flustered that easily.
Kuro: My gallery says otherwise.
Kenma: I still can't believe you took photos of me.
Kuro: The only memories I want to look at all the time. I captured my heart and I can sleep knowing I did the impossible.
Kenma: Again. Cheesy.
Kuro: You'll get used to it once we start dating officially.
Kenma: ...sure...whatever you say.
Kuro: You didn't say no.
Kenma: Because you gave me strength to sing on stage for the first time, I do feel comfortable with it, so we'll see once you return to Tokyo.
Kuro: I can't wait ;)
Kenma scoffed and smiled at Kuroo's text. "He really wants to earn my heart, huh? We'll see about that."
Kenma sent his reply and tossed his phone onto the bed, before resuming his game with a small grin on his lips.
Kenma: Me too Kuro.
Kenma woke up the next morning feeling refreshed. He showered and cleaned his home thoroughly, and folded his clothes to put away.
He checked his phone for any new messages, before grabbing his hair brush to lip sync to Kuroo's song that was playing from his phone. He didn't feel like playing any games before his stream, so he sang his heart out in his room until he got hungry.
He ate some cup noodles and laid down on his bed.
His phone rang while he was dazed, and he snapped out of his thoughts to answer it. "Hello?"
"Hey Kenma." Kuroo answered in a drowsy tone.
"Hey Kuro...are you okay? You sound tired."
"I just woke up and couldn't wait to call you to start my day."
Kenma blushed. "Kuro, I-you-seriously…"
Kuroo chuckled softly. His voice affected Kenma a bit, and the male couldn't help but smile when he heard Kuroo laugh like that. It sounded soothing. "I love getting you flustered knowing i'm the only one who can do it."
"Don't get it in your head. I don't need to flush every time I see you."
"If only I could get you to flush for loving me, instead of admiring me as a singer."
"I feel like I am…" Kenma thought as he turned onto his side.
"I need time to get there." Kenma replied.
Kuroo yawned. "I know, Kenma. I won't rush you at all."
"Thanks Kuro."
"By the way, I miss hugging you. It made me feel like we were the only humans in the world."
"Kuro, you need to not be so straightforward with everything you say to me."
"I just want to be honest with you, is that bad?"
Kenma sits up and sighs. "No...just not everything you think about has to be said out loud."
"I'll try to watch what I say."
"Thank you."
"Just let me say this, I might come off as a flirtatious guy with a singing career and a large fanbase, but i'm really just a human being who watches your streams and reads science books. I'll treat you with care and respect, and I will never leave you for a dime in the world."
"As if you don't have enough dimes to buy a mansion."
"I do, but I decided to just live in a studio apartment to feel normal. Being rich doesn't mean I have to change my style, I just have a lot of yen to spend, but it doesn't mean shit if i'm not happy at all."
"What if you had the choice to be poor with me or be rich without me?"
"You asked a question with an obvious answer."
"I know. I just want to hear you say the answer."
"Be rich without you."
"Wha-" Kuroo interrupted Kenma.
"Let me finish. Be rich without you, so I can look for you and be rich with you."
Kenma swallowed the words that wanted to come out. He wanted to tell him 'don't say that', but instead what he let slip from his lips was, "If that makes you happy, then I wouldn't mind living that life."
Kenma knew Kuroo was smiling from ear to ear on the other side of the phone.
"I wish I could live that life now…" Kuroo finally said.
Kenma looked around his room. "As much as I want to, I don't want to be a burden."
"You won't be a burden, Kenma. I promise."
"Plus your fans might call me a gold digger."
"Ignore them, if we have each other, then nothing else matters."
Kenma brought his knees to his chest and hugged them with one arm. "In the future maybe, you know...after we end up having mutual feelings for one another."
"You are right, so we can take this relationship as slow as you need it to go."
"Just until I figure out if I want to let myself love you or not."
"The day feels so far away."
"Calm down, it's not."
"To me it is, I want to hold you already."
"As if you didn't already."
"I mean romantically, I want to hold you, kiss you, spoil you with my love, everything people do when they're in love."
Kenma probably looked like a tomato at this point. Kuroo was not caring how much sweet words he was saying in Kenma's ear. If only Kuroo knew how much Kenma was getting shy over Kuroo talking about him like that.
Kenma's heart was drumming in his chest. How weird it felt to mentally wish Kuroo to continue saying those things but verbally say what he didn't feel. Is Kenma scared of getting hurt?
Maybe he is...this is the first time someone showed interest in him.
"Then...when the day arrives...you can do that."
"I'm planning on it, so don't leave me."
"Depends how deep in love I am by then."
Kenma bit his bottom lip after he said that. "But what if I already am in love?" Kenma thought while he tried to come up with excuses but nothing came in mind.
"Yeah...depends." Kuroo said.
"Be safe on your trip, Kuro."
"I will Kenma, eat well."
"I will."
The call ended after a while, and Kenma sat on his bed in thought.
He looked at his gaming set up and smiled. "Yeah…maybe I am already in love with him."
Days flew by fast, better Kenma knew it, Kuroo was returning back to Tokyo for their next date.
He didn't tell Kuroo his feelings, and kept them to himself so he could tell Kuroo at the date. Kenma was laying down half asleep trying to get himself to go asleep, but woke up to his phone notification sound going off.
He grabbed his phone off the charger to look at it, and saw Kuroo had messaged him.
Kuro: Hey...are you awake?
Kenma: Yeah.
Kuro: So um...my fans want you to come on stage again.
Kenma: Wait really?
Kuro: Yeah, they've been spamming my notifications about it.
Kenma: Will it be alright with your manager?
Kuro: Yeah, it'll be fine.
Kenma: If it's fine, then sure i'll do it.
Kuro: Great, my next concert is in a few weeks. I don't have an exact date.
Kenma: Okay, I can't wait.
Kuro: For the first time you can't wait to do something.
Kenma: It was fun so why not?
Kuro: Glad you think it's fun. Until then, I'll be resting and doing photoshoots in Tokyo.
Kenma: I see...
Kuro: What's wrong?
Kenma: Oh, nothing, just sleepy.
Kuro: Go to sleep Kenma, I'll wait till you wake up.
Kenma: Okay night Kuro.
Kuro: Night Kitten.
Kenma reacted to the message with a sleepy emoji, before plugging his phone back on the charger and going to sleep.
Kenma drove to the park Kuroo asked them to meet up at, and saw Kuroo wearing baggy clothes with his hair down. Kuroo had a resemblance to an emo adult that wears baggy clothes.
"Kenma! Hey!" Kuroo waved at Kenma, who walked over to him wearing baggy clothes and tied his hair into a low ponytail.
"Hey Kuro." Kenma said in a monotone with a small grin.
Kuroo points to the large field of grass and flowers. "This is our date. Like it?"
"Nature is our date place. Yes I like it, very beautiful."
Kuroo grabbed Kenma's hand. "Let's take a walk then, I have a lot to talk about."
"Okay."
"And then, my manager tells me to stop signing autographs, because there are too many people to sign for. I told him 'I will try to do it if I must' and I couldn't, but they were grateful I tried to get everyone." Kuroo rambled on while holding Kenma's hand, and walking on the grass together.
Both of them held their shoes in their hand, and felt the warm grass against their feet. It was the perfect day for a fourth date between them, although Kenma didn't know if he was too stiff or too quiet while Kuroo spoke. All he knew is that he truly enjoyed Kuroo's presence as if he was the sun itself.
"The whole ride from there to Tokyo was boring without our calls and texts, my manager kept insisting I accept more photoshoots and hope on more projects." Kuroo looked like he almost was annoyed, but he quickly shrugged it off. "I told him 'no, I want to hang with Kenma' and shook his head in disappointment. How dare he."
Kenma tried to cover his giggle with the back of his hand, the same hand that he held his shoes with, but he failed when Kuroo heard it and laughed with him.
"Don't be upset at him, Kuro." Kenma said, still smiling. "He's just looking out for you."
Kuroo scoffed. "As if I could just look out for myself."
"You signed the line so now you deal with it." Kenma said.
Kuroo shrugs. "I guess you're right, but no need to rub it in that I can't run from a busy life."
"You're not the only one who's busy bringing in income."
Kuroo nods. "Yeah, I forgot that cats need money too."
Kenma pouts. "Don't call me cat."
Kuroo smirks. "Cat."
Kenma threw his shoe at Kuroo, who let go of his hand to dodge, and Kenma ended up chasing after Kuroo with his shoe trying to hit him.
"Kuro! Stop running!" Kenma shouted while trying to aim at the back of Kuroo's head.
"Just face it Kitten! You're out of shape!" Kuroo shouted while teasing.
Kenma groaned but didn't stop running. "No, I'm not!"
"Catch me then!"
"I will!"
Kenma ended up catching up to Kuroo, and pounced on his back and tackled him to the ground. "I caught you!"
Kuroo rolled over so Kenma was laying on his chest. "Yeah, you did catch me."
It was a colorful sky above them, as if the sky complimented their mood perfectly. A beautiful setting for a beautiful feeling.
Kenma rested his head on Kuroo's chest to catch his breath. Kuroo's chest rose and fell as he breathed, he spread his arms out on either side of him on the grass, and he looked up at the sky with a warm smile on his lips.
"Hey...Kenma?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you ever just ask yourself if happiness is real?"
"Never."
Kuroo's chest vibrated as he laughed. "I have. A lot. I always wanted to know if happiness was something we read in a book or real but we could never reach."
Kenma rested his chin on Kuroo's chest so he could look at Kuroo. "Not everyone has the chance to find happiness, it's a feeling that one or two people can feel if it's strong."
"I want to be happy with someone."
"Who?"
Kuroo propped himself up on his elbows and smiled at Kenma. "You."
Kenma blushed. "I can't promise beforehand that I will be good at love."
"You don't need to be good at it, as long as you feel it for me. That's good enough for me."
Kenma placed his hands on Kuroo's chest, as he positioned himself on his lap to sit up. He sighed as he gathered his confidence. "Kuro…"
"What's wrong Kenma?"
"I-" Kenma took in another deep breath. He thought it over for days, and he was positive his feelings towards Kuroo were true. "I l-like you Kuro...more than friends...like how you like me."
Kuroo froze for a moment. Kenma couldn't read his expression, but then Kuroo smiled at Kenma and sat up to wrap his arms around Kenma's waist. Kuroo looked up into Kenma's eyes. Kenma unconsciously placed his hands on Kuroo's shoulders, and stared into his eyes trying to find an answer to his confession.
Kuroo's expression softened and a light blush spread across his cheeks. "I can't believe this...you love me back. This is a dream."
"This isn't a dream, Kuro."
"Can I kiss you if it's not a dream?"
Kenma slowly nods, nervousness quickly kicking in for him. He never kissed anyone before.
Kuroo licked his lips and leaned in, he closed his eyes and Kenma did the same. He felt a pair of soft lips against his a second later, and relaxed a bit to melt into the heartfelt kiss.
They parted after a few seconds and looked into each other's eyes. Only love could be seen in them.
"Will you...will you be mine?" Kuroo whispered.
Kenma nodded. "Y-yes."
"I promise I won't leave you." Kuroo said.
"How can I be sure of that promise?"
Kuroo looked down and grabbed a sunflower. He handed it to Kenma. "If I break my promise, then I will never bother you of my emotions again."
Kenma accepted the sunflower. "Then I am yours, and you are mine."
"My beautiful sunflower." Kuroo chuckles.
"Is that nickname sticking?"
"Do you want it to?"
"If you like it, then I like it."
"You are now my beautiful sunshine Kitten."
"That's too long."
"Just Kitten?"
"Just Kitten."
"Okay...Kitten."
Kenma isn't the one for swimming or wearing trunks in public, but he was willing to try it out with Kuroo.
Kuroo had asked Kenma one day if he knew how to swim, Kenma replied honestly and said not really-he knew how to keep his head above water but that's it.
Kuroo offered to teach him how to swim properly, and now here he was-standing in front of the lake wearing trunks in public. He didn't want to be the center of attention knowing Kuroo's face is well-known, but with Kuroo beside him-he could feel confident in trying to swim.
"It's about thirty feet deep...I think." Kuroo used his foot to test the temperature of the lake. "It's cool but we'll be able to swim in it."
Kenma walked up closer to the lake water and instinctively grabbed Kuroo's hand.
Kuroo was caught off guard and blushed profusely. He wasn't expecting Kenma to hold his hand, so his heartbeat was racing-his only response to the sudden action was to squeeze his hand to comfort him.
"What if I sink?" Kenma asked, his face turning red from the hand squeeze.
"You're too light to sink, you'll just float." Kuroo said. He pictured the scene in his mind, and almost laughed seeing a floating Kenma on his back after failing to swim.
Kenma pursed his lips. "You imagined it, didn't you?"
"I did not." Kuroo averted his eyes to where the sun was setting.
"You did!" Kenma pouted. "I should just go back to the blanket."
Kuroo looked down at Kenma. "Eh? Why?"
"If all you're going to do is tease then I shouldn't swim."
Kuroo chuckled. "You know I didn't mean it Kitten, I was just being me."
"Hmph." Kenma looked away and continued to pout.
Kuroo wore a soft expression and slowly pulled Kenma to the water. "Come on, we can stand here and move closer when you're ready."
Kenma stepped into the cool lake water and looked up at Kuroo. "Don't let go Kuro."
"I won't let go Kenma."
Kenma wiggled his toes in the water and took in a deep breath. "Okay...we can move in a bit more."
Kuroo gently pulled Kenma into the water more, and stopped when the water reached his knees.
Kenma nods and Kuroo pulls him in some more. The water reached Kenma's hips. "Hey Kuro...do you always swim like this?"
"Not really. I only swim when filming or when I feel like it."
"I never saw none of your music videos except one, which you know already."
"I'm just happy you love at least one of my songs." Kuroo said as he grabbed both of Kenma's hands. He stood in front of him with a dorky smile on his face. "Let's sing it together until the water reaches our necks."
"O-Okay…"
They started to sing Kuroo's song in a low tone, almost like a whisper, and didn't look away from each other's eyes. The gleam they each had was memorizing.
Once the water reached Kenma's neck, Kenma wrapped his arms around Kuroo's neck to hold on, and Kuroo held onto Kenma's waist.
"I got you Kenma, let's take it slow so you can get used to it."
Kenma nods. "Okay."
Kenma and Kuroo got out of the water, and flopped onto their blanket exhausted.
"That was so much fun." Kuroo said.
"Yeah, it was fun." Kenma agreed with a smile planted on his lips.
Kuroo leaned on his arm and looked at Kenma. "We should do this again."
"Sure."
Kuroo let out a sigh before laying on his back, his chest rising and falling as he took deep breaths. "You know Kenma…"
"Hmm?"
"I want to take you everywhere and have as much fun as possible."
Kenma giggled. "Okay...where?"
"Where would a sunshine go?" Kuroo looked at Kenma. "Maybe to a garden?"
"That's the best you came up with?"
"Garden's are beautiful. They have so much nature and life in one place that you can't help but look at them for hours."
"I like gardens, but the closest to a garden I've been was outside my gym in highschool."
"That should be our next date-a garden date."
"A garden date?" Kenma rolled onto his side to face Kuroo. "Let's do it. When?"
"Tomorrow?"
"At what time?"
"Afternoon."
"It's another date then."
Kuroo nods and moves a strand of hair from in front of Kenma's face. His expression softened looking into his boyfriend's eyes, and thought the light in them was reflecting his beauty almost.
"Are you okay, Kuro?" Kenma asked.
"How did I get so lucky to have Kenma Kozume fall in love with me?"
"The real question is-how did I manage to earn the heart of a worldwide model and singer?"
"I think I've always been fated to fall in love with you."
"I think the both of us were meant to fall in love with each other."
"You think so?"
"I know so."
"Then tell me Kenma, what makes you so sure that our love will last?"
"As long as we don't give up or let our bond weaken, our love will last till the end of time."
"With you, time is endless."
"And my love for you is infinite."
"Did you pick that out of a book or game?"
"Can I say my feelings without feedback?"
"Haha, of course, I was just asking Kitten."
Kenma blushed from his cheeks to the tips of his ears. "Kuro...ugh..."
"What? Does me saying 'Kitten' make you shy?"
"It's an embarrassing nickname so…"
"That nickname is not just a nickname to me, it's a name that only I, the love of your life, can say-which makes me happy knowing i'm the only one who calls you that."
"Is it that important to you?"
"It is."
Kenma hesitantly reaches for Kuroo's face and rests his hand on it. "Then it's important to me too." Kenma scooted closer to Kuroo and placed a kiss on his lips.
The two males laid there holding each other close, a vast amount of devotion being felt in that warm embrace.
Kenma shifted in his sleep and his hand landed on something warm. It was moving up and down and then he heard light breathing. He searched with his hand sleepily and landed on a face. He froze and sat up quickly to see Kuroo asleep next to him.
Kenma looked down to see that he was dressed in pajamas, and Kuroo was in his boxers and socks.
He had his face turned towards Kenma, but he laid on his back-he squished his head inside of his pillow that he had clearly folded over in his sleep. The bed hair that the model usually rocked as an everyday style was more untamed than before.
"How did we end up here?" Kenma mumbled as he scratched the back of his head. He looked around his room to see everything the same, except for the male laying beside him asleep. "I thought we were at the lake?"
Kenma stretched his arms above his head, the bottom of the pajama top lifting and exposing his stomach a little bit. He put his arms down and attempted to climb off the bed to check the rest of his home, but a hand grabbed his wrist to yank him in a pair of broad arms.
"K-Kuro?" Kenma looked up to see Kuroo half-asleep.
The male gave Kenma a sleepish grin. "Morning Kenma." Kuroo said in a low raspy voice.
"Morning Kuro, I need to get up to fix breakfast." Kenma said.
Kuroo cuddled Kenma closer to him and yawned. "Five more minutes."
"Kuro, come on." Kenma whined trying to struggle out of Kuroo's hold.
But Kuroo had already drifted back to sleep. Kenma sighed knowing Kuroo was too strong to try to fight against, so he closed his eyes and decided to rest for five more minutes with Kuroo.
Five minutes turned into three hours for the both of them, and when they finally managed to wake up. Kuroo silently cursed as he ran to shower.
Kenma giggled seeing Kuroo all frantic from oversleeping. He already showered and everything, and sat on the edge of the bed on his phone playing games.
The sound of water running followed by angelic singing made Kenma's ears perk up at the sound. Kuroo was singing in the shower.
It wasn't one of his songs nor a new song-so what was he singing?
Kenma paused his game and listened to the sound of Kuroo's voice, he hummed along with him and swayed his head side to side to the tune. It was soothing, calm, and heartwarming.
Kuroo exited the shower after a few minutes, and walked into Kenma's room fully dressed with his hair down and damp.
"Where's your hair dryer?" Kuroo asked.
"In the restroom." Kenma answered.
Kuroo nods and walks to the restroom to use the hair dryer.
"That man is really unbelievable." Kenma mumbled, unpausing his game and resuming it.
A few minutes later, Kuroo returns to the room with dry hair that resembles his usual bed head.
"No new style, huh?" Kenma mumbled peeking up at Kuroo and looking back down at his game.
"I grew attached to this style." Kuroo walked over to Kenma. "What are you playing?"
"A mobile game."
"I meant-nevermind. It looks fun."
"It is fun, subtracting the obvious bugs and half-assed job on the characters, I would give it three stars."
"Three stars for the bugs and character design?"
"Yep, they should've taken their sweet time before releasing this."
"You are so mean, Kitten."
"I only criticized the game bug and character design, nothing mean about a little feedback."
"You're right about that." Kuroo fixes his shirt and eyes himself in the mirror.
"Where are we going today by the way?" Kenma asks.
"It's a surprise." Kuroo smiles at Kenma from the mirror.
"Is it a good surprise or a surprise that I should stay away from?"
"Kenma, it's a good surprise." Kuroo replied affrontly.
"I hope so." Kenma said nonchalantly walking out of the room.
"Stop hurting my poor feelings." Kuroo follows behind Kenma to the front door.
"Tough up cavaliere servente."
"I know you didn't just call me that."
Kenma stops in front of his shoes and turns to look at Kuroo. "And what about it?"
Kuroo hovers over Kenma. "You seemed to have done your research but i'm not that kind of man."
Kenma playfully pushes Kuroo and starts to put on his shoes. "My bank account says otherwise."
Kuroo scoffs and leans down to whisper into Kenma's ear. "Wouldn't that make you my inamorata?"
Kenma's blood rushed to his face instantly from hearing that.
Kuroo put on his shoes and opened the door. He looked back at Kenma, who was looking at him speechless. He smirked at Kenma. "Come on, princess. We have somewhere to be."
Kuroo walked out the house without saying anything else, and Kenma knew his face was red like a tomato.
"I-I'm not-y-you...ugh!" Kenma finished putting on his shoes, walked out his home and locked the door behind him. "Kuro! You-"
Kuroo was leaning against the car and motioned Kenma over. "Kitten, come on, less hissing and more walking."
Kenma pouted and stomped to the car, which was Kuroo's car, and climbed into the passenger seat in silence. He crossed his arms once he buckled himself in and stared ahead of him.
Kuroo got into the car, closed the door behind him, and leaned over to kiss Kenma on the cheek with a chuckle escaping his throat. "You look cute angry, but you look cuter with a smile."
Kenma looked out his window and Kuroo placed another kiss on his jawline, then another one on his earlobe, another on his neck, and finally he turned Kenma's face around to kiss his lips. Kenma subconsciously kissed back and when Kuroo pulled away he formed a small grin on his lips.
"I hate that a kiss can get me to forgive you like this." Kenma said.
Kuroo started up his car. "An act of love overrides your negative emotions and gets you to smile."
"Nerd."
"Get used to it, sunshine."
Kuroo drove them to a twenty-four hour diner to eat some breakfast, and the whole time Kenma ate his food-he was glancing up at him with soft eyes. It was as if he was staring at heaven itself.
Kuroo was over the moon for Kenma, and shamelessly took out his phone to capture his lover with stuffed cheeks full of food as a memory.
He put away his phone after being satisfied with his pictures, and ate his food along his beloved Kitten.
The aura between them was light, full of fondness, and warmth. It was so comforting just to eat and enjoy the other's presence.
After they finished eating their food, they split the bill, and spent the rest of the day soaking in the sunlight while walking around hand in hand.
When the sun was starting to set, and the sky was turning a beautiful multicolor-Kuroo rushed to his car to grab a picnic basket.
Kenma watched Kuroo lay the picnic blanket on the grass, and sat the basket on top. "It's not the prettiest picnic, but I hope you'll join me for one." Kuroo said standing up and holding out a card to Kenma. "Er...I watched too many Korean drama movies, and I got the idea to write a confession letter to you. Is it too much?"
Kenma shook his head and took the letter from Kuroo's hands to read it out loud. Not too loud but enough that only the two of them can hear.
"Kitten, I don't know the first thing about writing out my confession, but I will try to write out my feelings for you the best way I can. You are one of the most kindest, most determined people I know that won't give up for a second. And that's what I love about you. I love that the moment you are in a situation, you can get through it with the strength you have, and the best way you showed me that you are strong is by trying something new. I tried something new by loving you, and that's the best thing I have done in my entire life. You treat me like a person, an individual, a person that isn't surrounded by their music and career. You treat me like who I need to be treated as and I love that."
Kenma took in a shaky breath before continuing, his eyes were watering and tears were streaming down his cheeks. "I walked into a life where millions, maybe billions of civilians were going to view me as a guy with a talent and looks. My manager walked up to me one day and said 'I want you to be our next top singer' and when I agreed he said 'Welcome to your new life, son. All of your dreams will come to light now'. I grew up hoping that I could find happiness in something else, and I did when I stumbled upon your stream video. You changed me, and I hope this bond we made won't go. Because my heart is already holding on to you as much as possible."
Kenma covered his mouth, choked out a silent sob, and looked up at Kuroo to hug him. He said the next words in his ear. "I love you more than music can describe, so don't stop loving me either. Kuro."
Kuroo hugged Kenma back and nodded. "I meant every word of that letter."
"Kuro, can I ask you something...please?" Kenma asked, sniffing.
"You can ask me anything, Kenma."
"Do you believe that love is unbreakable? Will we be strong enough to never let it go?"
"I believe that we can be strong together, and make sure it will never break."
"I never felt like this for anyone, I don't know the first thing about being strong for someone."
Kuroo cupped his hands on either side of Kenma's face. "Me either. So let's figure it out together."
"Why are you crying, Kuro?"
"Because all of this is still unbelievable."
"Believe it."
"I am and I hope to god I don't wake up alone without you."
"You won't. This is real."
"I fucking hope so." Kuroo brought his lips to Kenma's and could taste his tears on his lips. It only told him that all of this was real, and Kenma was standing there crying for him. This wasn't a dream.
Kuroo's big, luxurious studio apartment home echoed his fruity, guttural laugh, which Kenma had grown used to thanks to the long nights they spent on the phone together.
Kuroo was laughing at a scene that was being shown on his large, expensive flat screen television. Kenma didn't think the actor was being hilarious in his personal opinion, but if Kuroo found them funny then he would try to find it funny too.
Kuroo's phone rang during one of the scenes that he fell silent to, it was a fluff scene, and he took only one look at his call screen on his phone before pressing the 'end call' button.
"Wasn't that important?" Kenma asked Kuroo, looking away from the television screen at him.
Kuroo shook his head and put his phone away. "It was just another scam caller. I saved all of my important numbers under specific names."
"What kind of names?"
"I named my manager in my phone 'Bank' and my producer 'Microphone'."
Kenma let out a small giggle. "Won't they be mad?"
"If they don't know then it's fine."
"He's going to scold you for that."
"Oh well." Kuroo said. "I'll just zone out during that too."
"One day he's going to get tired of you."
"More me time then. I've had enough publicity and exposure anyway."
"Hmm...yeah." Kenma looked back at the television screen to see the students doing lab work. "I remember you said you like science."
"I do."
"Is science interesting?"
"It's unique and helps me understand how the world works."
"Really? You should've been a scientist instead of a singer."
Kuroo thought for a moment. "Maybe I can try experiencing being a scientist for a day. You can try too."
Kenma looked back at Kuroo. "What do you mean?"
"We can do a lab experiment."
"If it won't be hard then sure I guess."
"I'll search for an experiment we can do."
"Okay."
Kuroo takes out his phone again to search up an easy science experiment.
"A Lava Lamp?" Kenma read the website header. "Does it take a long time to make?"
Kuroo turned the phone to him and shook his head. "Not really."
"Let's get started then." Kenma grabbed the remote and turned off the television.
"I'll read the materials we need." Kuroo said.
"Okay." Kenma stood up off the couch.
"A clean plastic bottle with smooth sides." Kuroo said.
Kenma nods and walks off to find a plastic bottle. He saw Kuroo's recycle bin and picked out a plastic bottle. "Got it." He sat it on the island counter.
"Water. We'll get it after collecting the important materials. Uh, next we need vegetable oil, which is in my cabinet."
"Got it." Kenma said, placing the vegetable oil next to the plastic bottle.
"Alka Seltzer. I have some in my medicine cabinet."
Kenma walks to Kuroo's bathroom to grab the Alka Seltzer, and put the pack on the island counter. "Got them."
"Food coloring." Kuroo stood up off the couch and walked to the kitchen. He opened his highest cabinet that he knew Kenma couldn't reach, and when he put the food colorings on his counter he was breathing slightly heavy. His right hand was on his chest, and his head was lowered as he sounded like he was trying to catch his breath.
"Kuroo, are you okay?" Kenma asked, running to Kuroo's side.
Kuroo nodded. "Yeah, it just weirdly feels like I ran here."
"We can do this another time if you're feeling ill." Kenma placed his hand on top of Kuroo's own. He could feel the uneven rising and falling of his chest while breathing, and rubbed Kuroo's back to attempt to help him.
Kuroo declined by shaking his head and smiled. "It's fine now. Must've been the effects of overworking myself again."
"Kuroo, you need to take it easy."
"I'll try." Kuroo straightened up and nodded to Kenma in confirmation. "If I feel bad, I promise I'll go lay down to rest."
"Please do that. I can't have you getting injured on my watch."
"I will." Kuroo kissed Kenma's temple. His lips lingered on his skin for a moment before pulling away. He brought the food colorings to the rest of the materials.
Kenma didn't pry any further and stood next to him to begin the science experiment.
The Lava Lamp science experiment was a bliss. It was fun for both Kenma and Kuroo.
The only thing out of the ordinary that happened was Kuroo dropping the food coloring. It would be excused as being clumsy normally, but when he tried to pick it up and failed. Kenma couldn't ignore how vile his breathing was just reaching for it off the ground. Kenma tried to get it, but Kuroo didn't want to trouble him by picking up something within his reach.
Kenma's gut was screaming that he was not okay, but if Kuroo doesn't want to check himself out in the hospital. He won't force him to.
"Ta da! A Lava Lamp." Kuroo said, looking proud of their finished product.
"This was fun." Kenma said watching the lava move inside the bottle.
"Messy too." Kuroo said.
"Yeah, messy too."
"Kitten, you can go ahead and shower first. You can wear my clothes and toss those dirty clothes in the hamper. I need to make a quick call."
Kenma nods and leaves to go shower.
When he finished, he wore one of Kuroo's old tour shirts, and after he slipped it over his head. He made his way back to the kitchen, where Kuroo was pinching the bridge of his nose with his index finger and thumb while he wore a frustrated expression.
"Kuro?" Kenma said walking into the kitchen.
Kuroo averted his gaze to Kenma and fixed his expression into a jocular one. He eyed Kenma up and down before lifting him onto the counter. "You look beautiful, Kitten."
"He must not want to talk about it." Kenma thought.
"T-thanks." Kenma said with a flushed face from Kuroo's compliment.
"You should wear my shirts more often."
"I-I'll think about it."
Kuroo planted a kiss on the apex part of Kenma's nose. He placed another one on his eyelid, before giving a passionate one on his lips.
They pulled apart after a few seconds and Kuroo chuckled. He moved a strand of hair out of Kenma's face to tuck behind his ear. "Time for me to shower."
Kenma nods. "Take your time."
Kuroo hands Kenma his phone. "If 'Bank' or 'Microphone' calls just say I'm unavailable."
"Okay."
Kuroo puts Kenma back onto his feet, and leaves the kitchen to go shower.
Kenma looks down at the expensive device in his hands and sighs. "If only I could use this to call for medical attention for Kuro."
Kenma drew his sword, trampled the incoming enemy with one successful thrust to the vital point. He pressed the button to command his character to withdraw the sword from the dead, motionless body to pursue forward to the next enemy. Above the enemy was a health bar that was red-they just needed a few punches to the face to die.
"Ugh! Come on!" Kenma shouted. The sidekick was still fighting an enemy, which prevented his own character from walking through the opened fence.
It's been a few days since the short male saw his boyfriend. They still communicate occasionally on the phone, but Kuroo had brand deals to get done and manage other things. Kenma understood that and never asked for his attention to stress him out.
He had his long, shoulder-length hair pulled back into a ponytail to keep it out of his face while he streamed. He wore the hoodie Kuroo lent him, which was fairly new so it was near impossible for anyone to figure out it belonged to Kuroo Tetsurou. The worldwide singer and model. The man that anyone would kill to even get close to.
His chat was already going berserk over his performance weeks ago with Kuroo, he could only imagine what they'll say if they knew he was dating Kuroo Tetsurou.
He clutched his gaming controller tightly, as he descended the old stairwell that led underground. He bit the inside of his cheek silently praying that he was walking into the right boss battle.
He waited for the loading scene to finish, before dashing through the poorly lit hallway to search for the large metal door. He kept looking back to make sure his sidekick was behind him to continue.
"Shit!" Kenma screamed when another enormous monster appeared in front of him. He drew his sword and impaled it through the heart to instantly kill it. He withdrew his sword again, and ran down the hallway again to continue his quest. "I hear...water? Is that water flowing?" Kenma mumbled, he followed the sound of the water to find a large body of water flowing in one direction. "Where will this take me?"
"This water goes towards the dungeon. We should find a board to ride it down there." His sidekick said, the subtitles appearing on his screen.
"A board?" Kenma looked around for the board that he needed, and panned his camera up to see one hanging from the ceiling by a spider web. He clicked the button to open his inventory to take out his bow and arrow. He aimed at the web, and fired the arrow at the web to knock the board down to the ground. "That was easy."
He picked up the coins that were around the area before tossing the board into the water, and hopping on it along with his sidekick to ride the current of water.
The screen fades to black, then the loading shows up again before the cutscene plays.
He took that time to read some of his comments from the chat, and responded to some that weren't about his performance or his inconsistent streams.
A comment caught his eye. "You look like you're having trouble, Kodzuken."
Kenma scoffed. "I'm not T underscore Rooster."
"Are so." T_Rooster commented.
Kenma rolls his eyes at his boyfriend's comment to return to his game.
He climbed off the board to stealthily walk by the passing enemies to not waste time fighting them. He reached the bridge that led to lava, which was close by the metal door that he needed to go to.
His controller vibrated in his hands repeatedly, and he turned his character around to see another enormous enemy running towards them. He quickly opened his inventory to get his grappling hook out, and attached the hook to the other side of the lava. His character flew off the bridge as he swung over the lava to where the hook was.
His character followed his action, and was swinging next to him. The monster grunted in frustration before stomping away off the bridge.
"Those things get on my nerves." Kenma said placing his character back on the bridge, and running towards the end of the bridge to see the large metal door.
Another cutscene plays of his character and the sidekick talking about how to get into the room. And while they exchanged words, Kenma checked the chat again and saw Kuroo's comment again.
"I bet you won't beat the boss." T_Rooster commented.
"I will beat them." Kenma said.
"You won't." T_Rooster commented.
"Alright, whoever is right will get to order the loser to do whatever they want."
"We'll see, sunflower." T_Rooster commented.
"Yes. We will see."
Kenma flipped off his camera and shouted. "I won! I proved you wrong! Haha!"
"Now you get to tell me what to do." T_Rooster commented.
Kenma nods and grabs his phone from beside him to text Kuroo personally.
Kenma: Let's go on a date to the VR cafe when you're available.
Kuro: Sounds fun. I'm available tomorrow.
Kenma: Great. Let's go at noon.
Kuro: Okay Kitten 3
Kenma: 3
Kuro: Oh my god, you sent it back. I'm happy now. :D
Kenma: Kuro, go back to work.
Kuro: :3 yes Kitten.
Kenma: Ily
Kuro: Ily2
Kenma sent his last reply to Kuroo before turning off his phone. He went back to his game, and pretended he wasn't feeling giddy inside.
The next day, Kuroo met Kenma at the VR cafe at noon like he asked, and they walked in together to enjoy the date.
The date consisted of them wearing virtual reality headsets to see alternate dimension games, and play in a room with a generous amount of space for them to walk around and flail their arms around.
They played some arcade games in between, and when Kuroo grew too tired to move. Kenma helped him to sit inside the booth where the restaurant part of the cafe was.
Kuroo was only walking at a steady pace the entire time, but he was breathing as if he ran a mile-Kenma ordered a large cup of ice water for Kuroo and when it arrived. Kuroo gulped down the water like it was the first water he's had all day.
Kenma didn't try to ask if he was alright or if he needed the hospital. He just kept refilling the cup if he needed to the entire day, and kept a close eye on Kuroo's breathing and behavior. Kuroo was the type to hold on as long as possible to try to get something done, and he will even go as far as ignoring his own health to do it. He would ask to take a break or two, but not much so Kenma will have to keep his eye out for his boyfriend.
Kenma decided they spent long enough inside the cafe, and it was time to go home to rest. He pushed his boyfriend for too long.
"Are you sure? We didn't try going to that part of the cafe." Kuroo said.
Kenma nods. "Yeah, plus it's getting a little packed now so I want to leave."
"Okay Kitten." Kuroo said.
They walk out of the cafe to their parked cars at the parking garage. Both of their cars were parked side by side, and Kenma walked Kuroo to his car first to make sure he was alright to get home safely.
"Kitten, i'm fine. Go on head' home." Kuroo said with a gentle smile stretched onto his lips.
"B-but what if-" Kenma was cut off by an index finger pressed against his lips.
"Kitten," Kuroo cupped Kenma's face and laid a reassuring peck to his lips. "I'll be okay. I promise."
"Call me if you need anything." Kenma's voice was brittle. He was holding back tears seeing Kuroo's current health situation. He was on the edge of driving him to the nearest hospital.
"I will, Kenma."
Kenma nods. He gives Kuroo a light peck before walking to his own car to go home. The pit of his stomach wasn't believing the words Kuroo told him-he wanted to believe him.
But seeing his health get worse. That wasn't something Kenma could ignore fully.
Kenma didn't have to do a stream that day, so he decided to grab his old high school volleyball from his closet and drive to Kuroo's home.
He hid his hair underneath his baseball cap, and wore baggy clothes to hide away from the possible reporters that lurk around his housing area.
Kenma scrambled out of his car holding his volleyball, and jogged past the obvious hidden reporters to reach his home without being detected.
He raised his fist up and knocked on Kuroo's door. Kuroo knew Kenma didn't like raising his voice too high in public, streams were just his gamer rage, but in public was another thing. He didn't want to attract any type of attention towards himself from strangers.
Kuroo decided to learn mentally how Kenma knocked-it was light but loud enough to hear.
He cracked open the door to see Kenma, and let him inside of his home. "Hey Kitten, you never come over without a heads up beforehand. This is new. Is everything alright?"
Kenma stepped out of his outdoor shoes. "Yeah, sorry, I wanted to see you."
Kuroo closed his door and locked it. "It's fine. What did you come to see me about? Not that I'd complain over you simply visiting me."
Kenma held out his volleyball to Kuroo. "I wanted to see if you still want to learn how to play volleyball."
Kuroo raises his eyebrow and takes the ball from Kenma. "Where? My housing doesn't have a gym big enough to be hitting a ball around."
"There's a gym open to use close by."
Kuroo smiled and nodded. "Okay, let me just change into something more...comfortable." he eyes Kenma's outfit. "Or is baggy the attire?"
"Oh, no, this was just to avoid the paparazzi close by."
"Do you have a change of clothes?"
"Yes in my car."
"Okay then, i'll be back." Kuroo tossed Kenma his ball back and left to go change.
"Okay."
"This position is called digging, but I call it receiving instead." Kenma said while standing in the position to dig or receive a ball.
"Is there a difference?"
"Uh, not really, mostly more people say digging in particular."
Kuroo copied Kenma's standing position and furrowed his brows in concentration. "Like this?"
Kenma walked over to Kuroo and tapped his shoulders. "Relax and your arms are bent and out in front of your body. The way to position your hands is: stick both hands in front of you. Place one hand on-top of another and bring in thumbs. Like this." Kenma said, showing Kuroo his hands.
Kuroo nodded and fixed his hand position.
"I'm going to set a ball over, if you don't dig or receive it, then it's fine just keep trying."
"Okay Kenma."
Kenma made his way to the other side of the net, his sneakers echoing throughout the empty gym. He picked up the ball and stood at a decent distance away from the net. "Positioning is important. You need to position yourself to be able to set the ball accurately. Footwork is needed also, shifting your weight onto each foot to position yourself to set the ball."
Kuroo nods at every word Kenma was saying to him.
"Set the ball at the most appropriate height and speed for your teammate to spike, or to be able to get it over the net." Kenma said, setting the ball to Kuroo.
Kuroo didn't look away from the ball and watched the ball land on his arms, but it failed to go in the direction he was trying to send it. "Damn it." he mumbled.
"Nobody gets it on their first time." Kenma said walking over to retrieve the ball.
"How long did it take you?" Kuroo asked, straightening herself up and stretching his arms above his head.
"Uh…" Kenma picked up the ball from the gym floor. "A few weeks? A few months? It took a good while for me to get a hang of it."
"If only I joined volleyball instead, then I would be the most famous player in the world."
"You need to learn basic steps first." Kenma used his index finger and thumb to flick Kuroo's temple.
Kuroo rubbed the spot Kenma flicked. "What's next?"
"Tosses." Kenma threw the ball into the air and caught it when it came back down. "Most specifically, we're tossing to each other."
"Okay, I can do that." Kuroo beamed.
"Eh, we'll see." Kenma put a good distance between them. "Ready?"
"Yeah."
Kenma kept his tosses light enough to lest Kuroo from running after the ball. Kuroo's tosses weren't the best, as expected, he never played volleyball to know how to toss. Kenma didn't say anything about the tosses, he only said 'one more' and 'i'll get it' the entire time.
His tone was flat, not much emotion could be heard from it. He was out of shape from lack of exercise, and didn't want to talk much to waste his oxygen getting into his lungs.
Although Kuroo wasn't in the best shape either, his balance was off a little and his cheeks turned pink from exhaustion.
Say 'time out' Kenma pursed his lips and hesitated to toss the ball back.
The sound of light wheezing was audible from Kuroo, as his hand made contact with the ball to toss it back to Kenma.
Don't push yourself. Kenma bit his tongue to prevent himself from saying anything, and tossed the ball back to Kuroo.
Kuroo's next toss was more sloppy than the other one. It's getting more noticeable that he's unable to continue going.
Kenma couldn't push Kuroo any further and caught the ball in his hands. "I need a time out. I'm too tired to continue." Kenma said breathly.
"O-Okay." Kuroo responded, falling to his knees onto the gym floor, and laying on his back to catch his breath.
Kenma rushed for the bottled waters on the bench, and gave one to Kuroo. "Here."
Kuroo sat up, accepted the water, and gulped it down.
Kenma took a long sip from his bottle, and waited for Kuroo to finish his. "I'll go refill these. I, um, drank all of mine." he lied. He wanted to refill Kuroo's bottle to give him more water.
Kenma went to refill both of their bottles, and returned to hand Kuroo his bottle. "Let's take a thirty minute break, okay?"
Kuroo took the bottle from Kenma and nodded. "Okay…"
Kenma was invited by Kuroo during one of their late night video calls to come with him to his studio. He wanted him to watch the process of his songs being made. Kenma asked if his manager didn't mind, which Kuroo said yes and forwarded the email to him as proof.
Kenma wore his black baseball cap, oversized hoodie that went down to his knees, and jeans that were ripped at the thigh. He brought his game along just in case, and drove to his studio using his global positioning system.
"You made it, Kitten." Kuroo welcomed Kenma by giving him a peck and letting him inside his studio. "My manager had to step out quickly for something. My producer has his headphones on, and he doesn't like talking too much so I hope you don't mind."
"It's fine. Thanks for inviting me." Kenma walked to the couch that was a few feet from the producer, who sat in the desk swivel chair. He sat down on the couch and took out his game to play during Kuroo's recording session.
Kuroo picked up his headphones off the desk, and walked over to the couch to sit next to Kenma. "How do you like my studio?"
"It's the size of my room. I like the colors and theme of it, though."
"I love coming to the studio a lot. It gives me that home type energy."
"Do you come here every day?"
"Before me and you began dating, yeah I was coming here every day." Kuroo slipped his headphones on his neck and slouched back. "Now, I come when they need me, or when you need to stream and I'll visit to check some instrumentals to use."
"Hm, interesting, I'm glad you love your career." Kenma started up his game.
"You should record your own-"
Kenma put his hand up in Kuroo's hand and shook his head. "No thank you, I might sing during my streams, but that doesn't mean I want to record myself singing."
"It'll be fun."
"My voice being played on radios or all over the internet terrifies me. People already replay my singing from my streams on platforms." Kenma laid down on Kuroo's chest, brought his knees up to his chest, and pressed start to begin his game.
Kuroo wrapped an arm around Kenma and rested his hand on Kenma's femur, and watched Kenma play his game while he waited for his producer to talk to him.
"Did you eat today?" Kenma asked.
Kuroo hummed in response, he was absentminded at the moment.
Kenma used his elbow to gently poke Kuroo in the side. "Kuro."
Kuroo blinked. "Huh? You said something?"
"I asked you if you ate today."
"No, I didn't...I don't have an appetite to eat. I brought some nutrient bars in case I do get hungry."
"Oh."
"I should be asking you that question, did you eat today?"
"I ate instant ramen with vegetables."
"That's not healthy."
"But I ate it with vegetables."
"If you ate the vegetables on their own, then it would be healthier."
"I'll think about it."
"Hmm, okay."
Kuroo caressed Kenma's thigh by moving his hand up and down, and slightly closed his eyes trying not to fall asleep.
Kenma was silent for a minute playing his game, but then he spoke, rousing Kuroo out of his sleep. "Kuro?"
Kuroo cleared his throat in an attempt to cover up his drowsiness. "Y-yeah?"
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure Kitten, go ahead."
What's going on with your health? Which is what Kenma wanted to ask him, but instead of prying into his personal situation, he asked; "When do you usually go home?"
"Depends when I wrap up."
"Oh, is it okay if I sleep over today? I don't want to sleep alone tonight."
"Of course you can, Kenma. You're always welcome over to my home."
"Thanks Kuro."
"My pleasure, Kitten."
The sound of a door opening alerted all three of them to turn their heads to it to see Kuroo's manager.
"It's just me, don't worry." The man said closing the door behind him.
"Nice to see you again, gramps." Kuroo said to his manager.
"For the last time, Kuroo. I'm not that old." His manager said, sitting down next to the producer.
"Those silver hair strands are saying otherwise." Kuroo said.
"Changing the topic." his manager turned to the producer but kept his eyes on Kuroo. "We need you to review this track really quickly. Mind putting on your headphones?"
"Sure." Kuroo put his headphones on his ears and averted his gaze to Kenma, who turned his attention back to his game fully.
That entire day was Kuroo either reviewing songs he recorded, or his manager going over the deals he has to do or the brands that want to work with him.
Kenma aired out their voices to play his game. It wasn't that their conversation was boring, it's just he wasn't a part of the conversation to listen.
Afterwards, Kuroo and Kenma drove to Kuroo's home, and didn't care for showering before falling asleep on Kuroo's bed. Kuroo lacked the energy needed to make it inside of his home, but he managed to make it without Kenma's help.
"Maybe he's just sleepy from overworking." Kenma thought before he drifted off to sleep with Kuroo.
Not too soon after Kenma and Kuroo's consistent dates, Kuroo had to return back to help his backup dancers practice their choreography for the concert.
Kenma didn't have to practice with him, he just had to show up an hour early before the concert started to get set up.
In the meantime, Kenma continued to play his video games, he streamed for hours, he only paused his games to eat ramen from the cup or text Kuroo back, who only sent him short dry messages like 'goodmorning' or 'goodnight'. It was nice hearing from him, but he missed the energetic and long messages that Kuroo sent explaining his entire day and thoughts.
Kenma kept glancing over at his phone checking for a notification from Kuroo. He was currently streaming and playing a game his watchers recommended, but his mind only thought about Kuroo and remembered his symptoms. His gut was turning and he knew something was wrong. Kuroo would usually text at this time, it was his break time, his time to be to himself for thirty minutes, and the time they could even sneak in a quick call to talk about anything.
Kenma kept his character away from the enemies to prevent dying, while he kept his attention on his phone most of the time. He kept his character busy by collecting inventory items or upgrading his items to be more durable. His chat flooded with comments wondering if he was alright, but Kenma didn't mind them to check his phone.
He pressed his home button to turn on his phone. It was past Kuroo's breaktime, and Kenma was feeling fretful and uneasy.
He gave up on his game, picked up his phone, unlocked it, went to his call log, and pressed Kuroo's contact that he previously called yesterday night.
The phone rang until he was met with voicemail asking him to leave a message after the tone.
He pressed his lips together to form a straight line-his frustration was now visible to his stream viewers.
He ended the call after leaving a brief voicemail, and tried to go back to his game but ended up picking up his phone after ten minutes to call Kuroo again.
"Please leave your message after-" Kenma pressed the end button before the automatic voice machine could speak further.
He pressed call again to be met with the same automatic voice message. He bit down on his bottom lip, and tried to call Kuroo one more time.
"Please-" Kenma ended the automatic voice message and put down his phone. He ran his fingers through his hair in distress, and groaned under his taut breath.
"Where is he? What is happening to him? Is he okay? Did he drink enough water? Is he asleep? What if his phone is dead? Did he get lost?" Kenma mumbled, completely ignoring the game that was unpaused.
Kenma placed his fallen headphones off his chair onto the desk, which fell from him combing his fingers through his hair, and he stood up from his chair to pace around his room nervously. He hugged himself and kept his head down to his floor, forgetting that his live stream could still see him.
Kenma's heart began to palpate in his chest, his breathing was unsteady, his body trembled, and his mind was racing with thoughts of possible reasons for Kuroo not answering his call. He didn't want to seem possessive, clingy, or too emotionally attached. He understood Kuroo had a busy lifestyle to manage through, but he was observing his boyfriend's behavior and he can't help but freak out over him.
Kenma ended up walking to the corner of his bedroom, sat down with his knees to his chest, and hugged them tightly before hiding his face in between them. He wasn't in the right state of mind to continue his live stream anymore, but his body refused to end it. He couldn't move, his eyes watered, and his mouth was only saying 'Kuro' and 'Are you okay, Kuro?'.
Ten minutes must have passed when Kenma heard the familiar sound of his annoying ringtone. His head snapped up to the sound, his body moved towards it, and his hands grabbed the phone to see the name 'Kuro' on the screen.
Kenma wiped away his fallen tears and pressed answer. "H-Hello?"
"Kitten? Are you alright? I checked my phone just now to see missed calls from you."
"N-No, I didn't get my usual breaktime call from you, s-so I called you but you didn't answer. Are you alright, Kuro?" Kenma said in a brittle, sotto voce.
"I'm so sorry Kitten, I, uh, I left my phone in my dressing room, and I had to take my break on stage with the others. The instructor wanted to talk to us, well mostly the backup dancers, about the concert and how timing is important."
"Nothing bad happened? That was all?"
"Yes, Kitten, that was all. I promise." Kuroo spoke in a tone that almost sounded like he was lying. Kenma could tell. Whenever Kuroo was hiding something, his voice would change in a specific way. Kenma wanted to press the matter longer, he wanted to know what really happened to his boyfriend that caused him to miss their call-but he didn't.
"If you say that was all then...I-I'll take your word for it." Kenma sniffed.
"Kenma...have you been crying?"
"I-I was worried about you, Kuro."
"Please Kitten, dry those tears, and smile for me until I can come visit you."
"I don't think I can."
"Kenma...I'm okay. I'm just overworked. I'll take it easy after this concert. I'll cancel deals, postpone meetings, or anything that deals with work to rest."
Kenma used his wrist to catch the tears from his eye and nodded as if Kuroo could see. "Okay...I'll smile as long as you try to take it easy after this concert."
"I will, Kenma, I will."
"Go on back to what you were doing, Kuro. I didn't mean to take up your time."
"You didn't. You are more important than any of this, Kenma. It doesn't matter how long I've met you or how long you met me. My heart already chose you, my soul has already bonded with you, and my life is already ready to be spent with you. You are way more important than my career, if you need me, I will be there."
Kenma sniffed again and choked out a silent sob. "Kuro…"
"I love you, Kenma."
"I-I love you too, Kuro."
"See you later, Kitten."
"See you, Kuro."
The line cut after that and Kenma placed his phone down. He sat in his chair and eyed the comments asking questions about whether he was okay or if something bad happened.
Kenma sniffed and hovered his mouse over his exit button. "Bye guys...see you whenever I'm able to stream again with a straight face."
Kenma ended his stream and turned off his set up. He rested his head on his arms that was folded on his desk and sighed. "I seriously love you, Kuro." Kenma whispered, his eyes fluttered shut and he drifted to sleep on his desk.
Kuroo arrived at Kenma's home when the sky was painted a dark shade of black with no stars in sight. The moon was converted by the grey thin Altostratus clouds, the moonlight barely peeking through Kenma's closed window curtains.
"Kenma?" Kuroo crawled into Kenma's bed carefully. "Are you awake, Kitten?"
Kenma stirred in his sleep, he slowly opened one of his eyes to peek at the source of the voice. Both of his eyes snapped open and he threw himself in Kuroo's arms-the longing of his warm embrace was finally surrounding him. The comfort of his soft lips pressed against his was enough to tell him Kuroo was okay and Kuroo was now in his home.
"I see you were awake." Kuroo chuckled, brushing the loose hairs from Kenma's face.
"I was barely asleep, how could I be? I missed you." Kenma planted a kiss on Kuroo's cheek.
"I'm here now, Kitten." Kuroo said. "Let's go back to sleep."
"Hold me please." Kenma whispered, nuzzling into Kuroo's scent.
"Okay, let's lay down first."
Kenma nods and lets Kuroo lay them both down. Kuroo tucked them both in with the thick cover, and kissed Kenma's temple. "Goodnight Kenma."
"Goodnight Kuro." Kenma said, drifting off to sleep in Kuroo's arms.
The sun barely peered into the early morning sky by the time Kenma woke up to get ready for the day.
It's been a month or so since he had first met Kuroo outside of his concert, and Kuroo wanted him to sing behind him while holding hands. They turned from two strangers to two lovers in no time at all. And to Kenma, it felt like he'd met Kuroo for years.
Today was the day of his concert, and his fans wanted Kenma to return again. They seem to have loved his last appearance, and flooded not only his streams but Kuroo's social media comment sections asking for the male.
Kenma subconsciously made it to his shower, and turned it on to let the hot water run off his skin. He leaned his forehead against the cool tile of the shower wall, musing in thought about Kuroo.
The images of Kuroo's bright smile and beautiful eyes that gleamed when seeing Kenma was surreal. How could a man with millions of yen simply fall for an average streamer? He could get anyone he wanted. A lady with riches that could fulfill his satisfactions, a guy with confidence who can take anything head on, or anyone that Kenma couldn't be or even try to be.
It's foolish to overthink-to even get insecure when the man of his dreams confessed to him. Kuroo placed his heart in Kenma's hands, but Kenma is still believing that this reality was a dream. A dream where he would wake up alone in a cold bed and continue streaming for income and entertainment. He loved streaming, he did, but the fact he won over a kpop singer by playing a measly game was oneiric.
Was it really okay to love Kuroo? To fall under a proclivity to savor his warm embraces that secure him in safe comfort he doesn't want to escape from?
It was almost an inclination to ignore all of his doubts, his fears, his insecure thoughts, his urges to curl up into a ball to hide from the world-to pursue this needed velleity that he never knew he wanted to have in his life.
Does he want to be attached to Kuroo? So attached that if Kuroo left him-his only option was to die to numb the overwhelming pain that'll haunt his mind forever? Maybe. Maybe he should. He was already in too far to back out now.
He couldn't leave Kuroo even if he tried-the words wouldn't be able to leave his lips.
And they might never will.
Kenma cleaned his home after taking a long shower, and fixed himself a small breakfast consisting of fruit and dairy.
He spent the rest of the hours on his couch looking at his phone. He scrolled through the endless amounts of posts that Kuroo took of himself over the years. Kuroo seemed to post a lot within one year, and showed his personality a lot for the world to see.
Kenma stopped scrolling and clicked on one picture that caught his attention. It was a picture of Kuroo at the gym, he stood next to a girl-She appears to be tall and thin and has long, light blonde hair. Her green eyes are big and adorned by thick, long lashes. The appealing female wore a work out attire and had one arm around Kuroo's broad shoulders.
Kenma sensed a faint sting in his chest followed by his heart beat that began to race. He eyed Kuroo's comment that read 'Ran into my friend at the gym' with a smiling emoji. There were comments underneath it calling the two friends 'goals' and 'cute'. Would Kenma ever compare to her beauty? She fit so nicely next to Kuroo too, but a small part of Kenma wished that it was him next to Kuroo rather than her. Who was she anyway?
Kenma chewed on his bottom lip when he saw one comment that read 'Yes, that day was fun! Thanks again Kuroo!'. Kenma clicked on the username to see that it was the girl's profile. His eyes read her bio and sighed in relief when it read 'Married'.
"I need a break." Kenma mumbled, turning off his phone and placing it on his stomach. "I almost got jealous over a friend."
Kenma closed his eyes to rest for a moment, before the sound of his alarm woke him up. He groaned as he turned it off and sat up. It was time to leave for the concert.
He walked into his bedroom to change into an outfit that resembled what kpop artists wore. He decided he wanted to look the part while singing, and left his home to drive there before he was late.
"Kitten." Kuroo smiled at Kenma, who sat on the hood of Kuroo's car talking to him. "Are you ready?"
Kenma nodded. "I am."
Kuroo leaned down to Kenma's neck that was partially exposed, and kissed it lightly before pressing his lips against Kenma's own to give him a nonverbal reassurance.
Kenma let Kuroo help get off the car, held his hand, and walked inside the concert with him to do another performance alongside him.
The concert was breathtaking and fun to Kenma, he sang the words without messing up, and overlooked the eyes that stared him down.
The only part of that concert that gave him a sense of discomfort was Kuroo's lack of energy while dancing and singing. His voice was breathy and he sounded as if he was being careful how much oxygen he was breathing in or out. Kenma kept his words in his head, but tightened his grip on Kuroo's hand hoping Kuroo was okay.
"That was amazing! We did that!" Kuroo exclaimed high fiving his backup dancers as they walked past.
"Nice job Kuroo." Kuroo's manager said in a monotone. He gave Kuroo a small grin and turned his head to Kenma. "You too, I wanted to tell you nice job on the performance. It was astronomical."
"T-Thank you sir." Kenma replied.
"I think our record will love someone like you. How would you like to sign a contract with us to become as big as Kuroo? Your voice has already stolen hearts and it has the potential to win a Grammy one day. What do you say, Mr. Kenma?"
Kenma thought for a moment before shaking his head. "No thank you, I rather not. I'm more comfortable just streaming. Thank you for the request, though sir."
Kuroo's manager sighed but smiled. "That's alright, I'll just keep one on file for you. The day you're ready to become the next kpop artist, i'll have it waiting on you to sign."
Kenma nodded and Kuroo playfully punched his manager's shoulder. "Stop it man, you're scaring him."
His manager waved Kuroo off. "I'm not. Just go home and rest. Your next concert will be in a few months."
"Uh-huh, okay. By the way, cancel anything within two weeks for me." Kuroo picks up Kenma bridal style in his arms.
Kenma wrapped his arms around Kuroo's neck and leaned his head against Kuroo's shoulder.
"It's already done. You did a lot to get time off. Go do your own thing, and i'll call if I need anything." Kuroo's manager said, walking away.
"I hope not. My Kitten wants me resting and to himself." Kuroo said walking to the door that led outside.
"Bye Kuroo." His manager said disappearing behind a curtain and Kuroo rolled his eyes.
"I'm changing his contact name to 'Don't Answer' if he does call me."
Kenma giggled tiredly while Kuroo opened the door to walk outside. "You're so mean, Kuro."
"Eh, not really." Kuroo said. He looked down in his arms to see Kenma drifting off to sleep and smiled softly seeing the pure sight. "I'll drive you home, Kitten. I'll call and ask my manager to drop off your car for you."
"Mhm." Kenma hummed in response before falling asleep in Kuroo's arms.
"Sweet dreams, my beautiful Kenma." Kuroo whispered into Kenma's ear.
Kuroo laid Kenma down onto his bed gently to not wake him, and kissed his forehead before leaving his room. He shut the bedroom door behind him, and tiptoed away to leave the home but curiosity kicked in.
He decided to tour Kenma's home, and saw the ramen cups in the trash and the poorly attempt to organize his video games in the clear cabinet of his living room.
Kuroo sighed and chuckled. "He really needs to eat more healthier. I'll prep him a meal for tomorrow."
Kuroo picked a meal to make for Kenma, and cooked it on the stove hoping the door blocked out the smell. He didn't want his lover to wake up from his needed sleep.
Kuroo put the wrapped meal into the fridge, wrote a note, left it on the counter, and left the home when he heard his manager outside with Kenma's vehicle.
"Thanks again." Kuroo said to his manager when he climbed into the car.
"Sure." his manager replied not looking at him in the eye, instead his gaze was out the window.
"Which way is your home again?"
"Kuroo, I swear to god-"
"I'm kidding!"
Kenma woke up the next day and found Kuroo's note that he'd left for him. Kenma opened his fridge to see the cooked prepped meal that Kuroo made and blushed.
"He...made this? For me?" Kenma took the meal out and stared at the food in awe. It looked too good to eat. "I'll save this for lunch." Kenma said putting the meal back to grab a yogurt instead.
Kenma went to his room to grab his phone off the charger. "I should call Kuro to thank him."
Kenma unlocked his phone as he made his way back to his kitchen, but paused when he saw the article title in his notifications. He clicked on it to see 'New Boyfriend?' with an attached snapshot of Kuroo carrying Kenma to his car with a smile on his face.
Kenma remembered the sound of Kuroo arguing with a reporter when he was in the car, but he didn't take the time to open his eyes from drowsiness. "Did he...take this picture of us?"
The thought was interrupted by multiple voices outside. He lived around neighbors so he didn't mind the noise at first, but when they grew louder to the point he heard his name he dashed to his window to peek outside. There, outside of his home, was a swarm of reporters with vans behind them blocking the road looking around as if they were looking for the right home.
Kenma's body began to tremble in fear. He ducked away from the window and called Kuroo in a panic. The moment Kuroo answered the phone, he was talking in a low whisper into the phone. "K-Kuro, there's people outside my home. They're l-looking for me."
"Kenma, go hide in your bedroom, i'll be there soon."
"O-Okay."
"Do you want me to stay on the phone?"
"Please? I can't be completely alone right now."
"Alright Kenma, i'm coming now. Don't worry."
"H-Hurry...I hear them getting closer to my door."
"Get out of here!" Kuroo shouted to the swarm of reporters.
Kenma was hiding behind Kuroo, he ran outside to him the moment he heard his voice. He just wanted Kuroo.
"Kuroo Tetsurou, please tell us if the new face of the internet, Kenma Kozume, the viral streamer is your boyfriend or not." one of the reporters held their microphone to Kuroo.
Kuroo looked pissed. "I'm not answering any questions! This is transpassing! You nosey reporters better leave his home this instant before I contact the authorities!"
Everyone took the hint and climbed into their vans. They sped off away from Kenma's home, and Kenma was crying behind Kuroo.
Kuroo turned to Kenma and lifted him in his arms. He rubbed Kenma's back as he walked inside his home. He closed the door behind him, and locked it with one hand. He sat on the couch with Kenma on his lap, and comforted Kenma to the best of his abilities.
"It's okay now, Kitten, it's okay. They're gone."
"T-They are?" Kenma sniffed.
"They are. Look at me."
Kenma slowly lifted his head off Kuroo's shoulder.
Kuroo used his thumbs to wipe away Kenma's tears. "It's okay Kenma. They won't bother you anymore, I'll make sure of it."
"Will you stay here to make sure they won't?"
"Yes I can."
"C-Can we watch a movie?"
"Any one of your choice."
"O-Okay."
After they watched the movie for almost two hours, Kenma fully relaxed and calmed down.
"Kuro?"
"Hm?"
"Did you see the article?"
"The one about us?"
"Yes."
"I did."
"Is it wrong that I kind of want to let the world know we're dating?"
Kuroo shook his head. "Not at all. As long as you're comfortable with the idea then I'm all here for it."
"You're so kind to me, I wish there was some way I could repay you for all that you've done."
Kuroo held Kenma closer to him and nuzzled into the crook of his neck. "Your heart and love for me is the biggest payment I could receive."
"Kuro…"
"You're so warm." Kuroo sighed.
"I am?"
"You are. I could stay here forever if I had the option."
Kenma kissed Kuroo's temple. "Me too. Let's stay like this for a while."
"Yeah...let's do that."
The movie was now a background noise to them, while they cuddled together on the couch.
Kenma held his world in his arms, and simply thought; "I'm so lucky to have you, Kuro."
But he couldn't ignore the obvious weight loss that Kuroo showed. His arms were smaller, but not too small where it's noticeable to the public-only Kenma can tell from being held so many times.
"Kuro, please tell me you're okay." Kenma thought to himself. He inhaled Kuroo's strong cologne and silently prayed in his head that he was just overthinking it.
Kuroo and Kenma spend more time around each other, and Kuroo starts showing more signs that something is wrong.
If Kenma offered to cook, Kuroo wouldn't eat and apologize for not having an appetite.
If Kenma asked to go out on a date to the park, Kuroo would hesitate and ask if they could do another day.
Kenma would see Kuroo dropping things from his fingertips, and pretend it was an accident by laughing it off.
The most Kenma saw Kuroo do was take up to thirty minutes in the bathroom. The sound of coughing would always be heard, or the faint noise of wheezing. Kenma was on the verge of going against Kuroo's wishes to call the hospital, but took Kuroo's word for it if he said it was an allergy or nothing to worry about.
"If it's nothing to worry about." Kenma thought, his eyes gazing at the sleeping male beside him. "Then why do you cry in your sleep?"
Kenma ended his live stream early that day, his concern for Kuroo's health was nagging his mind.
He decided to visit Kuroo to check up on him, and leave when he knew his boyfriend was fine. Kuroo's manager was supposed to be coming over, so he wanted to leave to not interrupt their personal meeting.
It has been three weeks since the news got out about their relationship. Since then, Kuroo and Kenma stayed out of the public eye, but told the world about them. They just didn't want to step outside yet-partly of it was Kuroo not wanting to walk much.
Kenma was fine with the idea of going outside, but if Kuroo didn't want to then they didn't have to.
Kenma stabbed the spare key into Kuroo's lock, and opened the door slowly just in case the manager came already. He listened in first to check, but the home was silent.
Kenma stepped inside, closed the door, took off his shoes, and walked inside to see nobody in the kitchen or living room. He could hear voices in Kuroo's room and slowly walked to the door to listen.
"It came back positive, Kuroo. I'm sorry." Kenma heard Kuroo's manager say.
"On both of them?" Kuroo asked in a deadpan tone.
"They need to run some more tests to confirm. But it seems like it."
Kenma stood there in shock. He couldn't move his body. Kuroo has a disease?
"Antitrypsin deficiency is a hereditary disorder associated with a risk of developing liver disease and pulmonary emphysema, and other chronic respiratory disorders-mainly asthma and bronchiectasis-Z variant is the commonest deficient variant of AAT." Kuroo said in a low voice. "They sent me a whole packet explaining this."
"Since your mother had asthma, there's a chance this is genetic, so they're going to figure it out."
"Did they say how long I have to live?"
"Seeing there's really no treatment and all you have is an inhaler. They say you have up to eight to ten years, and that not many young ones live long with it. Some get it at thirty or fourty but-"
"I was one of the unlucky ones...I know."
"I'm sorry, Kuroo."
Kuroo groans. "It's fine. I'll tell Kenma when I can." Kuroo lets out a defeated sigh. "He's going to be devastated."
"He will-"
Kenma slammed the door open, tears streaming down his cheeks. "K-Kuro…"
Kuroo and his manager froze. They didn't expect Kenma to be there.
"K-Kenma?" Kuroo was sitting up in his bed, his blanket covering his bottom half.
Kenma ran into Kuroo's arm and let out loud, brittle cries while screaming; "Don't leave me! Kuro, please don't leave me!"
All Kuroo could respond with is; "I'm sorry, Kenma. I guess forever wasn't an option after all."
"Are you Kuroo Tetsurou's family member?" the doctor asked Kenma.
Kenma jumped to his feet. "I'm his boyfriend. Is he okay, doctor? Was it a false result?"
The doctor shook his head. "I'm sorry, he is indeed dealing with a genetic illness."
"Oh…" Kenma looked to the ground, tears coming down his cheeks. He couldn't stop crying no matter what he told himself, how could he? The love of his life is dying. "C-Can I go see him now?"
"Of course." the doctor said.
Kenma walked into Kuroo's room to see him connected to machines. "You look like shit." Kenma mumbled.
"I feel like it." Kuroo responded.
Kenma crawled into Kuroo's bed and cuddled close to him. "Eight to ten years isn't enough time."
"We have to make those eight to ten years worth every second."
"Kuro, i'm scared."
"Me too, Kenma, but we'll do this together."
"But in the end, i'll be alone again mourning you wishing you didn't leave me."
Kuroo held Kenma closer, careful not to pull on his IV in his arm. "My love will still live on inside of you, Kenma. It's like i'm still there."
"I want to hold you, not dream of you."
"Kenma, please stay strong for me."
"I don't know if I can be strong, Kuro."
"You have to be."
"I won't be, not without you in my life."
"I'm so sorry, Kenma." Kuroo choked out a sob and buried his face in Kenma's hair. He couldn't be strong in front of Kenma anymore, he was going to die, and Kenma was the only person he actually learned to love in his life. He didn't want to leave him alone, he wanted to live with him, and die with him at the same time.
But the world has other ideas in mind-like taking Kuroo away from Kenma.
The silent, invigorating mood of the night gave it a calm vibe for the two males. Kenma offered to drive Kuroo in his car to experience the peace of Tokyo at ten at night.
Kenma wore a plain white tee shirt with black pajama pants, he smelt of Kuroo's expensive shampoo and conditioner that complimented his body wash well. Him and Kuroo wore matching bedroom slippers and ear piercings that Kenma decided to get. He already had his ears pierced before, but he rarely ever wore his studs because of lack of care to even wear them.
Luckily his ears weren't closed yet, but it did hurt putting them in. He liked them and never wanted to take them off.
"We should sing." Kuroo said to Kenma, his hand resting on Kenma's thigh.
"Sing what?" Kenma asked, not taking his eyes off the road.
"That one nursery song about the dancing toy? I think?"
"You mean Saeko Toy Cha-cha-cha?"
"Yeah that one."
"I don't remember half the song."
"It's fine, we can just sing the parts we do remember."
"Okay."
"I'll go first." Kuroo took out his prescribed inhaler, took the cap off, shook it, exhaled, brought the mouthpiece of the inhaler to his lips, and inhaled slowly while pressing on the inhaler. He held his breath for a few seconds before he breathed out. He put his cap back on his inhaler, and started to sing the song. "Toy cha-cha-cha."
Kenma cleared his throat. "Toy...cha-cha-cha?"
Kuroo nodded. "Cha-cha-cha."
"Toy cha-cha-cha."
"Glittering in the sky."
"Everyone is sleepy."
"The toys pop out."
"Dancing toy."
"Cha-cha-cha."
The corners of Kenma's lips curled up in a small smile. "Toy cha-cha-cha."
Kuroo tapped his finger on Kenma's thigh to the words. "Toy cha-cha-cha."
"Cha-cha-cha."
Kuroo and Kenma continued to sing the traditional nursery song, while riding through the quiet roads of Tokyo.
"Kyanma!" Kuroo tossed the oversized hoodie at Kenma's sleeping body that laid prostrate on the bed, his long hair that grew a little passed his shoulders was covering his face. "Kyanma! Wake up! Tomio called for us!"
Kenma groaned, clumsily grabbed the oversized hoodie off of him, and tossed it back to Kuroo. "Kuro...no...I'm tired." Kenma said in a raspy, monotonous voice. He spent his off day playing in his game room screaming from rage and at his online friends he made.
Kuroo tossed the hoodie back at Kenma. "Get up!"
Kenma shifted over to lay on his side and ignored Kuroo.
Kuroo rolled his eyes at Kenma and sighed. "Fine."
Kuroo crawled onto the bed, hovered over Kenma, and leaned down so his breath was hitting against his bare neck. "Kenma." Kuroo sing-songed in a low, husky voice. "Wake up, Kitten."
Kenma was snoring softly and didn't react to Kuroo at all.
Kuroo pouted. "You damned, adorable, perfect human being. Wake up or else he'll get mad at us again."
When Kenma didn't wake up, Kuroo sighed in defeat. He got up off the bed and began walking out the room. "I'll overwrite your saved data on that new video game you spent hours on, if you don't wake up in ten seconds."
Kenma shifted in his sleep and yawned. "Good luck on that. I have a password, stupid."
"T underscore Rooster?"
Kenma didn't respond.
"Kodzuken?"
No response.
"Oh! I know!" Kuroo chuckled. "Sunflower!"
Kenma stopped snoring but didn't respond.
"Let's try that then." Kuroo said, dashing to Kenma's game room.
He opened the door to the room, but he ended up getting collided into by Kenma, who fell onto Kuroo's back.
"Kenma?" Kuroo groaned and turned over so Kenma could lay down on his chest.
"I'm so sorry! Are you hurt? Did I break something?" Kenma frantically checked Kuroo's body, searching for any evidence of an injury.
Kuroo grabbed Kenma's hands to stop him and smiled. "Kitten, I'm fine, just a little sore from the impact."
"Really? I'm sorry I-" Kenma was cut off by Kuroo's laughing. "What's so funny?"
"You're still worried about my health, although I threatened to overwrite your precious game data."
"My game is nothing compared to you."
"Says the one that ran after me to save it."
Kenma pouted. "I-you know I never meant to knock you over to stop you from doing that."
"I'm just teasing you, Kenma." Kuroo sits up and kisses Kenma's hands. "I know what you mean."
Kenma blushed. "D-Do you need your inhaler? You ran here."
"I don't, today is one of my good days I think. My lungs do hurt a little bit, but I can manage without it for now."
"Kuro…" Kenma's face wore a worried expression on it. He cupped Kuroo's face with his hands. "Don't do risky things, okay?"
"You know I won't."
Kenma kissed Kuroo on the forehead. "We're late, aren't we?"
"I start the car and you get changed."
"Yeah, okay."
The crowd of fans stood outside of Kuroo and Kenma's record studio, and some of them screamed 'Kodzuken', some screamed 'Kenma', and others screamed 'Kuroo'.
The both of them were the world's most adored couple, and everyone happily accepted Kenma as Kuroo's partner. No one knew of Kuroo's illness, but they do know that Kenma and Kuroo now live together happily.
That's all the world needs to know.
"Okay." Timio, Kuroo and Kenma's manager, placed down the marketing results on the table. "Everyone streamed your duet album, and since the second album is coming soon. We need an advertising strategy."
Kenma shrugs at him. "I can promote on my stream?"
"Yeah, but we need something bigger. Any ideas?" Timio said, glancing at both of them.
Kuroo covered his cough with the sleeve of his hoodie. "Uh, um...television commercial?"
Kenma rubbed Kuroo's back and looked up at Timio, who was thinking about Kuroo's idea.
"Hmm...what kind of commercial?" Timio asked Kuroo.
Kuroo looked at Kenma. "Kenma is the face of one of the most sold magazines in the world, and he's admired by millions of people for his cat-like features. We should shoot a cat commercial with Kenma playing the cats and kittens."
"And?"
"He'll talk about the album, and the upcoming concert throughout the commercial."
Timio nooded at the idea. "I like it. We have to see if they agree also. The marketing has to be good."
Kuroo flicked Kenma's nose. "Nobody can resist this face."
"Anyway," Timio ignored Kuroo's comment. "We'll speak again soon." He picked up the results and turned to Kenma. "Kenma, since you're only singing part-time, can you keep an eye on Kuroo?"
"What's wrong?" Kenma asked.
Kuroo sighed. "I might've had a minor episode yesterday, he's just scared I'll collapse."
"Why didn't you say anything?" Kenma asked Kuroo.
"I forgot, I passed out the moment I got home, remember?"
Kenma turned to Timio. "I'll keep an eye on Kuroo."
"Thanks Kenma." Timio bowed before leaving the room.
Kenma stood up out of his seat. "I'm cooking ramen tonight."
"With or without egg?" Kuroo asked, standing up out of his seat.
"With."
"Aw, you still love me." Kuroo hugged Kenma from behind.
"Kuro, you're heavy." Kenma whined, Kuroo was leaning all of his weight on Kenma.
"Sorry, you mind if I stay like this for a second? My body feels a little weak at the moment."
"Sure." Kenma said.
He lied about Kuroo being heavy, well it wasn't completely a lie, Kuroo did have some weight on him, but he lost a lot of weight over the years. He ate food to help him slow down his weight loss, because of his lack of appetite but in the end. Kuroo lost enough pounds for his fans to notice a difference.
Kuroo had bags underneath his eyes, and his breathing was shaky in Kenma's ear. Kuroo still couldn't breathe properly, and the doctor did say his lungs aren't looking too pretty. There was a huge possibility that Kuroo doesn't have a lot of time left, his lungs weren't going to continue to function on their own soon.
He'll have to be hooked up to the machines, until his body can't live another day-meaning he'll have to be unplugged when it's time. Of course, if Kuroo dies before that happens then, Kenma will have to say goodbye early.
And Kenma is not ready for that yet. He's not ready to let go of Kuroo.
"Okay…" Kuroo slowly got off of Kenma and nodded. "I'm fine now."
"Come on then." Kenma grabbed Kuroo's hand in his and took his time with Kuroo to their car.
It was around two in the morning when Kenma heard something coming from downstairs. He thought it was the bluetooth connecting to the speaker again, but his hands felt around the bed-it was empty.
Kenma opened his eyes. "Kuro?" he sat up, rubbed his eyes, and continued to search the bed for a sign of Kuroo. "Kuro?" his voice got louder.
The noise from downstairs got more audible and Kenma hopped out of bed. "Kuro!"
Kenma ran out of their shared bedroom to descend the stairs. The kitchen light illuminated the room a bit, and it helped Kenma spot his bed-haired boyfriend laying on the ground wheezing. "Kuro!" Kenma ran to Kuroo's side and lifted him up in his arms. He couldn't find the spare inhaler in Kuroo's pajama pocket and decided to give him emergency CPR.
He gave Kuroo CPR for a few minutes, until Kuroo could breathe somewhat better. He propped Kuroo against the couch, and ran to their room to retrieve the inhaler. He returned with it and helped Kuroo use it.
Kuroo started coughing and Kenma got a napkin off the coffee to hand to Kuroo.
"It's okay now, Kuro." Kenma reassured, his voice didn't match his words even though he wanted them to.
"Kenma." Kuroo coughed again. "I need to take a break from...s-singing."
"Okay Kuro, I'll take over for you."
"B-But you-"
"It's fine, you're more valuable than my streaming career." Kenma didn't realize he was crying. "I-I'll take over till you're better."
"I don't think I will Kenma." Kuroo whispered.
"You will be better." Kenma's voice was brittle and low, he choked out a silent sob and kissed Kuroo on the lips. "You have to be."
"Kenma...it's almost time for me to go. My lungs are-"
"Your lungs will make it, don't think on the negative."
"Kenma." Kuroo shook his head. "You know it's almost time for me to go. We have to prepare for it."
"Kuro, I don't want to let go of you yet."
"I'm not ready to leave you alone in this world either, but it's about to turn out that way."
"Kuro..."
Kuroo wrapped his arms around Kenma and pulled him close to him. "I'm sorry Kenma, I wish I could live a long life with you."
Kenma sniffed. "At least...At least you lived for eight more years."
"The best eight years of my remaining life."
"Can we stay down here? I don't want to go back up."
"Okay, let's move onto the couch."
"Okay."
"And that's the end of this stream." Kenma said to his viewers. "Before I end it, I have an announcement to make. I'll be taking a three month break to focus on my singing, and I'll return when I can or if I can. See you then everyone." Kenma ended his stream and placed down his headphones. "Yeah...three months."
The concert didn't take long to come around, and it was time for Kenma to sing on his own for the first time.
"Do you have your inhaler?" Kenma asked Kuroo, patting his forehead with a cool cloth. "Your pills? Your bottle of water? Is your phone charged?"
Kuroo grabbed Kenma's wrist. "Kitten, It's only a few hours. Nothing will happen. I have everything. The rest room is only a short distance away, I'll be careful getting there."
"There's a spare inhaler in the cabinet just in case." Kenma put down the cloth. He places a long, passionate kiss on Kuroo's own and pulls away. "Call me if anything happens."
"Kenma, you'll be late, go ahead. I'll call if anything happens. I have this holter monitor on my chest, so it'll notify the hospital if something happens."
"Okay, I'll go, this early morning concert better be worth it."
"It will. Go Kitten. I'll be cheering for you from here."
"Okay…" Kenma slowly backed away from Kuroo. "I love you, Kuro."
"I love you too, Kitten." Kuroo put up two thumbs for good luck and smiled.
"I love you more than you know, Kuro."
Timio yawned, he placed the microphone on Kenma and checked his outfit. "Alright, show time."
Kenma nodded.
Once the music started, Kenma walked onto stage alone singing, and danced with the backup dancers. He wore a smile on his lips, and masked his tiredness to not mess up the concert.
He made the concert a success without messing up, and the audience gave him a round of applause and cheered for him. He waved to everyone, and ran off stage to go back home to Kuroo.
He handed Timio his things, and drove home at top speed while being mindful of road regulations.
He arrived home and Kuroo was smiling at him. "You did it, Kenma! You sang all by yourself!"
Kenma sighed in relief. "Yeah...I did."
"I want to adopt a kid." Kuroo said one morning, he ate his miso soup with Kenma, who ate miso soup as well.
"Why?" Kenma asked.
"I don't want to leave you alone in this world, and plus it's on my bucket list."
Kenma swallowed his food and nodded. "Why not...it'll be a great addition to our lives."
"Thanks for accepting the idea, Kenma."
"Mhm." Kenma grabbed the napkin and wiped off Kuroo's chin. "You have some food on your chin."
"Oh, thanks Kenma." Kuroo smiled weakly.
"Hikaru, welcome to our home, this is where you'll be living from now on." Kenma said to the small boy. Kuroo couldn't move out of bed to go pick up their new soon, so Kenma did it for him to let him rest.
Hikaru smiled, his eyes sparkled at the sight of their home. "Pretty!"
"It is pretty." Kenma toured the house with Hikaru. He showed the different rooms, including Hikaru's room, and finally showed Hikaru his other new father, Kuroo. "He is your other father, Hikaru. His name is Kuroo Tetsurou, but you can call him papa."
Hikaru walked to Kuroo. "Papa?"
Kuroo lifted Hikaru onto his lap and nodded. "I'm papa, Hi Hikaru."
"Hi papa."
They spent their days enjoying their new son, Hikaru. Kenma took Hikaru out to walk around the park or go get treats if he wanted it. Kuroo sometimes made it to the car, and sometimes he could barely walk an inch away from the bed. Hikaru didn't acknowledge Kuroo's illness, and carefully played with him-Kuroo smiled brightly from the new feeling of being a parent. He loved it.
It was time for Kenma to return back on stage, he said his goodbyes to Kuroo and Hikaru, who were laying in bed together reading a book.
"Psst! Kenma!" Timio waved over Kenma, who was in the middle of a song.
Kenma sneakily made his way next to the curtain to listen to Timio without pausing his singing.
"Kuroo's holter monitor went off. It seems that he's not breathing."
Kenma side-eyed Timio in shock.
"Hikaru is in the ambulance with him, you might want to hurry, I'll excuse you."
Kenma nodded and jogged to the front middle of the stage. "Everyone, I'm terribly sorry, but there seems to be a family emergency. Please forgive me." Kenma bowed to the audience and ran back to Timio to hand over his stuff. "Thanks Timio."
"Just hurry."
Kenma ran out the arena and didn't waste time getting into his car. "Kuro, please be okay, please be okay, please be okay...please."
When Kenma arrived at the hospital, Hikaru was waiting for him outside the hospital room with the doctor.
"Are you his father?" the doctor asked Kenma.
Kenma nodded. "Yes, I am." Kenma kneeled down to hug Hikaru close. He lifted Hikaru up and held him. "How's Kuroo?"
"He's not looking too good. His lungs are unable to work on their own. We have him in the ICU room connected to the machines. This will only give him some more time on this earth." the doctor sighed. "We did our best, i'm sorry."
The doctors came out of Kuroo's room and left in the opposite direction. Kenma bit down his bottom lip and held back his sobs.
"Can I go see him now?"
"He's currently unconscious, but you can. Try to make your visit short."
"Okay." Kenma said before walking into Kuroo's cold hospital room. He walked up to Kuroo, who was connected to machines and held Hikaru closer to him. The sight broke his heart.
"Papa?" Hikaru said.
Kenma sniffed. "Papa's alright." Kenma held Hikaru with one hand to touch Kuroo's hand with his other. "Hey...Kuro."
Hikaru and Kenma visited the hospital to see Kuroo when they could.
Kuroo barely could speak, but continued to listen to Kenma and Hikaru. He never stopped smiling at them, nor did he ever dare break eye contact whenever they spoke to him. He wanted to engrave their faces and voices inside of his head to take with him to the after life.
"What...are you...w-writing?" Kuroo asked in between breaths.
Kenma looked up from his newly bought notebook at Kuroo. "I wanted to try to write lyrics."
"C-Can I...see them?"
Kenma nodded, handing Kuroo his notebook. "My handwriting is not the best."
"I can..see it perfectly." Kuroo said, reading the lyrics.
Kenma felt shy letting Kuroo read his lyrics, he thought of Kuroo writing them, so he didn't know how he would react.
Kuroo started singing softly and breathy, he took small breaks in between to catch his breath.
"Kuro, please...don't waste your breath on my lyrics."
"Kenma, I might be dying slowly, b-but...I want you to...hear the voice that'll turn into a memory one day...plus...your lyrics are...beautiful."
"Thanks Kuro." Kenma blushes.
Kuroo hands Kenma back his notebook. "You should...sing that."
"I should?"
"Yes."
"Okay, if you say I should then...i'll do it."
Every day, Kuroo would sing in low, staggered breaths, and Kenma would record them on his phone for keepsake.
Hikaru began to go to Elementary school, and Kenma cancelled his concerts to spend time with Kuroo in the hospital. He wanted to spend every second he could with Kuroo.
Nights were lonely for Kenma, the once warm bed that used to be occupied with him, and Kuroo was cold and he felt alone on it.
The phone he held in his hand was nothing compared to Kuroo's natural warmth he wanted to fall asleep in.
"If we didn't meet, you wouldn't have gotten sick or-" Kenma was interrupted by Kuroo.
"Kenma, even if we didn't meet, this would've still happened. But although i'm bound to this bed, I still love seeing you every day."
"You do?"
"Yes Kenma." Kuroo inhaled a shaky breath before continuing. "Your smile is worth more than my life."
Kenma's lips curled up to form a smile. "I love your smile too, Kuro."
"I'll give the brightest smiles I can give you to remember me by. I don't want you to remember me by being sad, the only memory inside of your head should be the happy ones."
"Don't force yourself to give me happy memories."
"At this point, you are my happy memory. You made me feel so alive and loved that I hope I can carry this feeling with me."
"You're mine too. My only happy memory that I'll cherish forever."
"Forever is how long my soul will be with yours...Even if I die, I'll live on inside of you, watching you sing, play, or take care of our son. I'll watch you do it."
"You say such sweet things." Kenma wiped away his tears. "I almost wish you didn't have to go, I want to hear you say them while I'm in your arms."
"I know, Kenma. I wish I could hold you too, I miss your warmth."
"I miss yours too, this bed is so cold. Kuro, why is this bed so cold?"
"Hikaru will give you that missing warmth you need, Kitten. He'll keep you from feeling alone."
"Only you can fulfill that role, Kuro."
"Kitten, i'm dying...I-I can't anymore."
"That's what I hate the most right now. You dying."
"I hate that you had to see me get more fragile and enervated, but I'm glad you saw me on my best days too."
"And soon...i'll have to see you on your last day."
"Yeah...you do."
"We have to pull the cord." the doctor said to Kenma, who held Hikaru's hand.
"W-What?" Kenma exclaimed. "Why?"
"Mr. Kenma, Kuroo has been admitted in this hospital since April 5th at 11:17 a.m, and since then his health has been getting worse. He hasn't been able to speak in two days, and it seems his lungs are just bringing him pain every time he breathes. We have to pull the plug."
"J-Just a little longer. I want to sing him one last song before he goes."
The doctor sighed. "Okay, I'll ask the others to hold, until you gave him his last song."
"Thank you." Kenma bowed.
"Pick your head up, sir. It's fine. But keep the volume at a minimum."
"I will."
Kenma's hand trembled as he hooked up his microphone. He wrote some personal lyrics for Kuroo, and only for Kuroo's ears. Not for the album, or any of their fans. Just Kuroo.
He held the microphone in his hand and looked at Kuroo, whose face was emotionless. He had a hint of agony written in his eyes and he looked as if he wanted to cry.
"This is for you, Kuro." Kenma couldn't hold back the hot tears streaming down his cheeks.
His voice sang the lyrics and Kuroo could only tap his finger to his words, and that small action told Kenma he was enjoying the song.
By the end of it, Timio came to say his goodbye before rushing back to a meeting-he also cried from losing Kuroo.
His exact words to Kuroo before leaving was; You were like my own son, Kuroo. Safe journey.
Kuroo shredded a tear to Timio's words, it was obvious he thought of Timio as a father. But now he couldn't experience that anymore-he knew Timio was broken inside but had to keep his composure to stay professional. Though, Kuroo knew he would break down inside the safety of his car.
Kenma stood next to Kuroo and carefully crawled into his bed, avoiding the wires that connected him to the machines. He laid his head on Kuroo's shoulder gently, and snuggled up to Kuroo as close as possible to feel his comforting warmth one last time.
"I love you, Kuro…"
Kuroo looked down at Kenma and struggled to find his breath. He opened his mouth slowly, his breathing clearly was excruciating to do, and only managed to say, "I...haa...Love...Y-You...haa...Too...K-Kitten…"
Kenma nodded, his bottom lip quivered. "Your last words...are going to haunt me...but I don't mind. Your voice is what brought me here today." Kenma sat up some to peck Kuroo's lips and laid his head back down on his Kuroo's shoulder. "Hikaru loves you too, Kuro."
Kenma held onto Hikaru's hand tightly, he watched the doctors pull out the cord, and watched Kuroo gasp for air but in his eyes he looked relieved.
Kuroo looked at his boyfriend and son one last time, before the light in his eyes faded and the heart monitor signaled his death.
Kenma fell to his knees. "Kuro! No!" Kenma cried out and screamed. Hikaru cried also and bent down to hug Kenma to comfort him.
"Papa?" Hikaru whimpered.
Kenma shook his head. He hugged his son close to his chest and cried with him. "P-Papa's gone, Hikaru. Papa's gone."
Kuroo Tetsurou was pronounced deceased on May 1st at 10:16 p.m.
Kenma attended his funeral with Hikaru and Timio, and told his social that he'll take some time off to recover mentally from losing his lover.
He took care of Hikaru and helped Hikaru get better mentally too. Kenma couldn't imagine how it must've felt to lose someone so early in their life after meeting them for a short time.
It did feel like a short time with Kuroo, but eight years and some months felt like the best moments he could've asked for. Short or not. He's thankful Kuroo was the one to fell in love with him, and he was the one who fell in love with Kuroo.
Kenma walked onto the stage slowly. He wore Kuroo's hoodie he couldn't throw out, and stood behind the microphone.
The audience was silent. They waited patiently for Kenma to begin at his own pace.
Kenma took in a deep breath before singing the song he promised Kuroo he would sing. "I have words I could say, But it's not enough, I could get angry or walk away, It wouldn't last because of love, Love would make me stay, I know I said it a thousand times, but let me say it again."
Kenma looked up at the audience that were swaying side to side to the song. "I love you, More than I could say out loud, And what I say is true, But to understand my feelings, you have to listen to my heart…" Kenma let the tear come down that he failed to hold in.
"If my heart could sing...It would sing what i've been trying to tell you…"
In memory of his lover, his best friend, his first love, his everything-he named that song 'If My Heart Could Sing'.
And not only did that song bring peace to Kuroo's name.
It also reached number one in the top hundred on the billboard.
If Kuroo was alive, he would congratulate Kenma and say 'I knew you could do it, Kitten'.
