Summary:
One evening at Lestrange Manor while all the death eaters and their children are staying over for the night, the order decides to take their children to be raised far away from their parents, they succeed, mostly anyway, but what happens to these children, who are they, will they finally be returned to their parents after years and years of searching? And what will happen when they finally go to Hogwarts?
A few notes: If you would like a full guide to all of the children and their parents, you'll find it at the end of the chapter, I only own my OC's, JK Rowling owns Harry Potter and the characters, Voldemort never went after Harry on Halloween, You will soon see why, and I'm probably gonna come back later and edit this since this is my first ever fic, Bellatrix isn't crazy and her, Rodolphus and Rabastan does not go to Azkaban, there will also be a slight bit of French in this chapter due to the Lestrange brothers being mostly French as is Rabastan's wife Isadore, therefore their kids can speak a bit too, but you will find the translation in brackets beside. thank you, hope you enjoy x
Chapter One, How it Started
September 2nd, 1983, Lestrange Manor, Cornwall
"But that simply will not be enough, with all due respect Macnair, they'll be caught and they'll be sent to Azkaban before you can even blink, We want to rescue our friends from the prison, not put more in there," Rodolphus argued against Walden Macnair, Bellatrix smirked and the persistence her husband had shown so many times before, "I think a Vanishing Cabinet would suffice," The eldest Lestrange brother went on.
The rest of the death eaters were divided now more than ever, not only were two of their best, Alecto Carrow and Barty Crouch Junior, serving life in Azkaban right now for the torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom, but Lucius Malfoy was now on trial, Bellatrix always knew the bastard would get himself caught one way or another, the fool just had to go and shoot the Dark Mark up into the sky in front of Muggles, Bellatrix seriously worried for his mental health at times. Although she along with many of the others main worry was for Narcissa, Lucius' wife and also Bella's sister, who had two children to raise, Hermione and Draco Malfoy, although many of them were hoping that if they were lucky, two weeks from now, the three missing Death Eaters would be back, and all would be well, as well as it could be at least, they were in the middle of a raging war after all.
"Wel ow on ert d'ya plan o gettin tha yolk in dare Rod?!" Another man yelled from the bottom of the table, though Bellatrix couldn't make out who it was due to them being highly drunk, she assumed it to be Dolohov however.
"My wife is as knowledgeable when it comes to Transfiguration as she is as skilled using Crucio, isn't that right my darling?" Rodolphus asked his wife with a small smirk.
"Indeed, it was my second best subject in school, after Arithmancy of course," The Pure-Blood witch replied with a grin, sneaking a peek at her lord to see if he would be pleased, but to her dismay, he seemed unfazed, focused on whatever Rodolphus was to say next, Bellatrix's grin faltered slightly at this.
"Transfiguration? What are ye playing at Lestrange? What good would that do for an occasion as delicate as this one? Dumb fuck so ye are," Macnair argued back at him, shouting this time. Bellatrix suppressed a growl.
"Now now fellas, let us not daft, I want my sister out of that jail cell, and if either of you-" Amycus Carrow was interrupted by his wife, Taura's, soothing.
"Thank you for that Amycus, now as I was saying, we can transfigure the Vanishing Cabinet into some sort of item, and then we smuggle it in through an Auror or anyone who just so happens to be bringing in some more prisoners, we curse it so it, or we can at least shrink it temporarily, I understand our plan has many flaws, but they can be worked out, and besides, it's better than the plan you've got isn't is? Going to the ministry and using imperio on Barty Crouch or the Minister of Magic?! If we do that we're practically begging to be caught!" Rodolphus shot back, sneering the last part making Macnair shrink back in his seat
A whimper was then heard in the room, no doubt a child, but which one? The Dark Lords followers, as well as the Dark Lord himself, looked around the room at each of the small children in one another's arms to detect the source of the child that had possibly woken up from their sleeping drought, Macnair along with his wife Yvonne peered over the back of their chairs to their five-year-old son, Kaius Macnair, who was sprawled out on a blue plush couch beside the fireplace, to make sure he was not the child who had awoken, for he was quite a monstrous child when it came to bedtime, and it was unhealthy to give a child too much sleeping-drought at a time, thankfully for the two eldest Macnair's, their son was still sound asleep, cuddled up in between Rosalind Carrow and Estelle Selwyn.
It was when Bellatrix looked down to her chest, that her eyes filled with love and her grin widened into a warm smile as her eyes met with sapphire blue ones that looked oh so much like her husbands.
"Mumma?" Her child whimpered softly, moving from her sleeping position that she was previously in just moments before to be taken into her mother's arms.
"Shhhh Adhara, Mummy's here," Bellatrix cooed to her three-year-old, picking her up and getting up from her seat and mouthing, 'Be right back' to the many adults who were watching, many of them still checking their own children, Bellatrix threw an apologetic glance at both The Dark Lord and her husband, both of which didn't seem to mind.
Bellatrix walked briskly to the nearest bathroom, all the while cooing to her beloved daughter who had her head rested on her mother's shoulder.
"Can I play, Mumma, can I play with Beemy?" Adhara asked the second the bathroom door closed.
"Beemy's busy Adhara, he's preparing the feast for later on tonight with the other house-elves, you can play with him tomorrow if you'd like," Mother replied to daughter.
"Fal or Cy? I saw they were in there too, They were there with their mummies,"
"You'll have all the time to play with your cousins and the other children later on little love, Draco and Mione are coming over later with aunt Cissa," Adhara's face lit up with joy at the mention of Hermione, sure she loved Draco, and her other two cousins, Falco and Reinhard, but she and Hermione got along best, Bellatrix knowing this, gave a small smile at her daughter's joy. "But I need you to be good for me throughout the rest of Mummy's meeting, can you do that for Mummy little love?"
"Yes Mumma, I'll be good, pinky promise," The child replied confidently holding up her pinky, Bellatrix was delighted over how well her vocabulary was, it was much better compared to her sister's children, although Bellatrix sometimes thought that they had a twin link, Lucius refused to believe so, which added to the reasons that the eldest Black sister despised him as much as she did.
"Now, Papa is waiting for us to return, shall we go?" Adhara didn't respond, she just raised her arms while her mother picked her up and both smiled.
"Thank you, my friends, although we still have much to discuss, I feel we are on the path to free our friends from the tortuous walls we know as Azkaban, I shall leave you now, and please, enjoy your night," The Dark Lord spoke slowly, glancing around the table at each of his followers, "And lastly, about Dumbledore's fake prophecy, I wouldn't worry, the boy is harmless, so Severus has informed me, Dumbledore is simply trying to draw me in, anyways, best be off so, and take care of your family's," And just like that he apparated.
Since there were still children under the Sleeping Drought, their parents thought it best to leave them to sleep in a given bedroom until they awoke, for the adults would be partying long into the night, and most likely till dawn.
"Bella dear, where shall I leave my Cyamus? I suppose he'll wake up soon, so I would like it to be near," Tiana Fawley asked the Lady of Lestrange Manor, both having a three-year-old tucked in their arms.
"VOOKEY!" Bellatrix yelled, making Tiana grimace, "C'MERE," suddenly a short creature with tennis-ball-like eyes appeared in front of both women.
"Missy Bella called Vookey?" It asked.
"Yes, now, show Mrs Fawley to a free room, on this floor too, now go elf," The elf nodded as it grabbed the bottom of Tiana's dress.
"Follow Vookey please Missy," Tiana obeyed. Once Mrs Fawley left with her son, Adhara looked up at her mother.
"Mumma, can I play with Beemy now? I was a good girl, wasn't I?" Bellatrix smiled.
"Of course you were little love, but Beemy's still busy I'm afraid," She replied as she used her spare hand to brush one of her daughters chocolate curls from her face, "However... If you're looking for somebody to play with, perhaps you could go and find uncle Rab, I'm sure he'd love to play,"
Bellatrix didn't have to say that twice, as soon as the words left her mouth Adhara had almost jumped out of her arms, when the child did get out of her mothers hold she dashed off.
All the adults sat at the dining room table, Fire-whiskeys in hand, the men were talking about the latest Irish Vs Portugal quidditch match that had taken place last month, Antonin Dolohov and Thorfinn Rowle were busy bickering with Perseus Parkinson and Ruben Nott about who would win the next match, Bulgaria or Germany, Dolohov and Rowle being for Germany, and Parkinson and Nott for Bulgaria. The women, however (Now with the addition of Narcissa) were having far more civilised conversations, such as ones about their children, which they all took part in, looking for an excuse to talk about their most precious children. Each and every one slightly tipsy.
The children were having fun, running around the manor playing Slytherins and Gryffindors (Cowboys and Indians). It wasn't long before one of them was injured. It was Falco Lestrange who took a tumble and fell headfirst into the sharp edge of the statue of Corvus Lestrange, Isadore Lestrange, Falco and Reinhars's mother, was very alarmed and worried, if you were to ask Bellatrix she was probably crying more than her son, Narcissa assured Isadore that is would be fine and Falco would only gain a small scar just above his eyebrow, this didn't make Isadore Lestrange feel better, it wasn't until the Malfoy bride used a few potions that Isadore calmed down, and much to Falco's dismay, she sent him straight off to bed promising to check on him later on.
It wasn't until Theodore Nott had a complete meltdown when he was caught that the children decided to play another game, pin the tail on the hippogriff, this, Reinhard Lestrange enjoyed, mainly because he would always purposely aim for Clara Selwyn, Estelle Selwyn's younger sister, but alas the pin had been enchanted by Róisín Dolohov, Antonin's wife, to make sure that it couldn't hurt anyone, but Reinhard still liked to scare the others, Estelle especially since she got scared easy, although her mother Viola wasn't as pleased as he.
At eight pm the elves brought out a grand feast that they had been working on for days on end, the meal consisted of any foods favoured by both adults and children, for the adults there were foods such as pheasant, dragon meat, turkey, kipper (Much to Taura Carrow's delight) along with Yorkshire pudding, it was a miracle that Perseus Parkinson hadn't eaten the whole thing according to Rowle and Dolohov whom still hadn't forgotten the Christmas 1980 fiasco. And for the children there are such foods as Chips, Hash browns, Cornish Pasties, Roast beef, lamb chops and Pumpkin Pasties, the elves were overjoyed that everyone enjoyed the food, once everyone was satisfied Rodolphus ordered them all to go and get the beds ready for everyone for when they go to bed, The children would be sharing four rooms, so four children in each room, while the adults would have a room between for themselves and their partners each, the Lestrange couple had no problem providing these rooms, for their manor was insanely large, having five floors, and many, many rooms.
Rodolphus sat in between his brother, Rabastan Lestrange, and his sister in law, Narcissa Malfoy, devouring his final course, which was Yorkshire pudding (His wife had to kick him under the table for his bad manners). He suddenly felt a tug on his robes, he turned around to see his three-year-old daughter, dressed in the light yellow dress that her mother had put on her earlier that morning, standing with her friends, Alvara Selwyn and Pansy Parkinson as well as cousin, Hermione Malfoy.
"Hello my little Abeille (meaning bee), Are you having a nice time?" He asked, tapping Adhara's nose with his finger, making her giggle and nod.
"Mia and Ally wanted me to ask you if the fours of us can go into the sitting room and listen to you's and mumma's records, we's be careful Papa," Rodolphus looked at the child with his chocolate brown hair as she panted due to her speaking so quickly, and then to Alvara Selwyn and Hermione Malfoy who were both blushing furiously and looking down at their shoes, then he looked to Pansy Parkinson who was standing perfectly still and quiet behind his daughter.
"Of course, but you mustn't handle them yourself, get Vookey to put them on the player for you, now off you go petite Abeille," (Little Bee) He responded, chuckling as she nodded her head furiously, Adhara then bent up and kissed his cheek.
"Merci, Je t'aime Papa," (Thank you, I love you Papa) Adhara smiled. As did her father.
"Je t'aime aussi petite Abeille," (I love you too little bee) The three-year-old giggled and ran off with the other three, who were also giggling, And from the corner of the eldest Lestrange brothers eye he could see Bellatrix across the table, a warm smile played across her lips.
The time for the children to go to bed came, now the hard part came, for the Macnair's anyway, Bellatrix and the elves had prepared room arrangements already. Adhara had pleaded to be allowed to share a room with her friends, eventually, Bellatrix gave in. So in one room there would be Adhara, Pansy and the Lestrange Twins, In the second there would be Rosalind and Boyet Carrow as well as the Malfoy Twins, The third would hold Cyamus Fawley, Fionn Dolohov, Claus Parkinson and Alvara Selwyn, In the fourth would be Hestia and Esme Rowle, along with Estelle and Clara Selwyn, both of whom would late scream and cry to be put in with Thorfinn, Theo and Kaius, and in the final room there would be Thorfinn Rowle Jr, Theo Nott, Kaius Macnair and there was also supposed to be Titus Carrow but Taura insisted that the two-year-old was to stay with her and her husband.
"Now Reinhard, your brother's 'ead 'urts so I 'on't 'ant any talking out of oo, 'e is extremely fatigué (Tired) and will need some rest," Isadore whispered her son in her heavy French accent while tucking him into the wine blankets, She placed a quick kiss his forehead.
"Oui Mama," (Yes Mama) The boy yawned. Isadore chuckled as she saw Narcissa run past the door at three-year-old Draco who was refusing to go to bed.
"'At's my boy," The boy's mother smiled warmly as he placed another kiss on his forehead.
"That goes for you too my little Pansy, we must respect people now shouldn't we?" Marissa Parkinson cooed to her eldest daughter who was three. Pansy nodded and her mother gave her a kiss on the cheek which the child returned. "Now if anything happens, or you need anything just call one of the Lestrange's house-elf,"
It was then Bellatrix who entered the room with Adhara, whose eyes were drooping, placed on her hip, She gave a small smile to the other two mothers in the room, she walked over to the bed and placed Adhara down softly, pulling the blankets up to her daughter could sleep.
"We're gonna have fun in the morning, Little Love, Uncle Rab and Aunt Issy are gonna take you, Rein and Fal to get ice cream in Diagon Alley, won't that be fun?" Bellatrix murmured as she set her daughter down on the bed and pulled up the covers, the child really had tired herself out.
"Chocolate Chili?" The girl with the chocolate brown hair mumbled as her eyes drooped.
"Whatever flavour you want little love," Bella smiled as she issued her daughters nose lightly and watched the small smile that she loved play out on Adhara's face.
"Mummy's gonna go downstairs Little Love," She whispered, "Get Vookey, Beemy or Feeny to call me or Papa if you need anything, ok?"
There was a mumble in response. When the child's mother got up to leave she heard a whisper.
"Mumma?"
"Yes, Adhara?"
"Song?"
Bellatrix smiled, she looked at the other two women in the room before bending back down to her daughters level. Clearing her throat she began to sing:
Hush little pureblood
Don't say a word
Mummy's gonna buy you a thunderbird
And if that thunderbird won't storm
Mummy's gonna catch you a flobberworm
And if that flobberworm's too drab
Mummy's gonna give you a fire crab...
And if that fire crab don't burn
Mummy' gonna get you a hippogriff by grab
And if that hippogriff shows scorn
Mummy's gonna find you a unicorn.
After a few more verses Adhara was half asleep.
The three mothers left the room with the four children, quietly making their way out to the hallway where they met Narcissa Malfoy as well as Taura Carrow, the wife of Amycus Carrow, coming out of the room closest.
"Excited for a game of darts ladies?" Taura asked in a funny voice, "Cause I sure am, I'm planning on, Kicking. Your. Arses."
"Alright, we shall see about that won't we," Narcissa replied with a grin on her face, "Afterall, Bellatrix has the best aim with... sharp objects, if I'm not mistaken,"
"You're not," Isadore laughed, Bellatrix grinned at her brother in law's wife and sister.
All the adults went down to the second floor, the men were in the game room playing poker, and now and again you could hear shouts of "Fuck you Rod!" or "I fold, I fold!" and "Where's that fire whiskey!" And Bellatrix's favourite which came from Rodolphus, "Ah c'mon Selwyn even my daughter can do better than that."
The women in the drawing-room, playing both chess and darts, and Narcissa wasn't lying, Bellatrix had amazing aim when it came to these kinds of activities, eventually, Bellatrix got fed up of winning and went over to the chess table to play a game with Orietta Nott.
"Ay Taura, where's your youngest?" Yvonne Macnair inquired.
"With his father, he'll sleep with Amycus and I tonight," The Carrow bride answered as she concentrated on where to throw her dart, Yvonne let out a small 'o'. Tiana Fawley was the next to speak.
"Oh Bella, how was your trip to the Alps? was it beautiful?"
"It was nice, Adhara enjoyed herself, she was quite cute in her little snow coat and boots, Rod got a few pictures, I have them upstairs, we stayed at the Lestrange Manor in France with Rod and Rab's parents, quite a bit bigger than this one I must say, sometimes I question why we don't live in France," Bellatrix responded smiling fondly at the memory, Adhara in the snow was quite a precious sight.
"Oh 'ow are Mr. an' Mrs Lestrange act'ally? I 'aven't seen tem for two 'ears," Isadore asked as she had just missed the red dot by a mile and sighed in frustration afterwards. The Lestrange parents hadn't seen Isadore for a long time for one simple reason, they hate her, while Bellatrix wasn't entirely sure why, nobody would ever tell her, Anabel and Reinhard Senior had welcomed Bellatrix with opened arms.
"They were great, they were asking about Rein and Fal," Bellatrix spoke as she moved her pawn forward, she decided to change the subject quickly before Isadore got frustrated "Róisín how was Fionn in Ireland? I forget what that place is called again, is it..."
"Limerick," Róisín finished for her.
"Ah yes, Limerick,"
"He got on very well, my sister Sinead loved him, as did my mother, they hadn't seen him since he was one, they kept on stealing him away, I and Antonin barely saw him that whole trip," Everyone chuckled at the last part.
"Is Antonin still trying to convince you to let Fionn go to Durmstrang?" Hestia Rowle asked, coming back from the bathroom.
"Oh Gods yes, I don't like thinking about that though, Fionn's still only a baby, he's only two, after all, It seems like yesterday that we were bringing him home for the very first time," She gushed.
"I know how you feel, Rodolphus keeps talking about sending Adhara to Beuxbatons, I mean don't get me wrong I understand it's a decent school, but I just don't understand why, when there's already a decent school in the country, most of her childhood friends are going there," Bellatrix went on, although Bella knew that there was no way in hell that Adhara was going to a school all the way over in France, "And besides, my daughter will be an amazing Slytherin," She added fondly, everyone laughed at this, "What?"
"Adhara? a Slytherin? You must be joking Bella," Viola Selwyn giggled as Bellatrix raised her right eyebrow.
"Oh stop, of course, Adhara will be a Slytherin, All the Blacks were, and so was her father, and if not then Ravenclaw will do, but my daughter would never be put into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor," Bella ranted, she knew she was right, her Adhara was perfect.
"I was in Hufflepuff Bella, there's nothing wrong with it," Marissa said suddenly with her eyebrows raised. Bellatrix replied to this with a shrug.
"Better to be cunning or smart than kind or honest I say,"
Marissa Parkinson narrowed her eyes playfully at her friend with the curly black hair.
The adults all carried on playing into the night, laughing and singing, getting drunker and drunker with each fire whiskey, (That was ok since there was a potion that could allow them to avoid hangovers) it was at 1 in the morning that they decided to go to bed, they would all sleep peacefully for hours, unaware of the tragedy that was about to strike.
"Wake up Estelle." The child of four years of age whispered to her older sister as she shook her awake.
"Go back to sleep Clara." Her sister mumbled back as she pulled the pillow over her head.
"No, Estelle come on we gotta go to Kaius, Theo and Thor," This woke Estelle up.
"OK but we have to be quiet, we don't wanna wake the other two," She nodded towards the two beds where Hestia and Esme Rowle lay asleep.
The two girls snuck across the squeaky floorboards on their tippy-toes, Clara was holding back giggles as she rarely ever disobeyed her parents in her short life.
When they got into the hallway they picked up their pace as they walked briskly towards the room where their friends were at the end of the long and narrow hallway.
"Are you sure they're all here James?" Lily asked her husband,
"Relax my darling, Remus confirmed that some of his friends had seen them all together just hours ago," The couple continued whispering in hushed voices as they made their way through the bushes outside Lestrange Manor.
"Ah will yee two shut up fer two secs! We're ere, don' want anyone ta hear yee now do we?" Mad Eye Moody whispered shouted to the couple, "If we hurry this up ye'll be back ta that son of yer's in no time, now, are the lot of yee ready?"
Alastor Moody looked around to see if there were any objections, but the many other Order Members nodded.
"But how are you planning to get past the house elves? There's no doubt in my mind that the Lestranges got some," Aberforth Dumbledore inquired.
"Trus' me, Kingsley, Aberforth, follow me lead,"
Lily Potter stumbled forward, "One more thing Alastor, we don't have to... kill the children do we? I mean their not responsible for their parent's mistakes, god we haven't even got solid proof to show to Crouch to prove that they're involved,"
"Nah Mrs Potter, as much as I'm tempted Albus won't allow me ta do so," Moody answered honestly as Lily's eyes widened. Moody nodded to Kingsly Shacklebolt and Aberforth Dumbledore, both of whom nodded back, Moody stepped forward and touched the stone wall of the manor, just as he did so Vookey, Beemy and Feeny appeared in front of the group, all looking livid. It was Vookey who decided to yell first.
"YOU'S SHALL NO-" He tried to shout until Alistair pointed his wand at him.
"Imperio," He whispered when the two other elves went to attack Kingsly and Aberforth did the same.
"Imperio," They both said together, pointing their own wands.
The two other elves froze like Vookey had just moments before.
"Now you listen ta me elf, I want ye ta go and take whatever child ye can get without an adult noticing an bring em outta us, am I un'erstood?" Moody whispered in a sharp tone, the elves nodded and disappeared again.
Both James and Lily's hearts hammered in their chest.
Adhara felt herself lifting off of the bed and up into the air, she furrowed her eyebrows refusing to let herself open her eyes, this was a weird dream, she finally opened her eyes however and saw her own house-elf, Beemy.
"Beemy?" The three-year-old murmured, "Wat'ya doing?"
"Be's good girl and goes back to sleep, small Missy Dhara," The elf replied and Adhara frowned, suddenly Mumma's words sounded in her head.
Always listen to the house-elves when Mummy and Papa are not there, Little love, they are there to protect and take care of you after all.
So the small child with sapphire blue eyes did as the house-elf had told her, she closed her eyes and went back into a deep sleep, but not before she saw her two cousins, Falco and Reinhard, also floating above their own beds.
Not even when she felt arms that she did not recognise grab hold of her did she awaken, for she was doing what Beemy had told her to do.
"Ah, here we go, the first one, which one is it?" Moody asked Feeny who was levitating a small boy up in the air
"It be's Master Reinhard Sir," The elf replied as it stared blankly at Mad-Eye.
"One of Rebastan's boys, Alright so off you go, get more of em for me will you, and remember, Not. A. Sound" Moody finished and returned to the pillar where everyone else was. It wasn't long before Vookey came with Falco.
"Mr Potter, I want ya ta go and take these two ta Clonny Naylor's, an also obliviate the boys," Mad-Eye demanded. Everyone's eyes widened. James was the first to speak up.
"Clonny Naylor?! As in the mental one? God Mad-Eye why h-"
"She's the o'ly one who volunteered," Moody argued back in an annoyed tone, James sighed and grabbed the twins, then he apparated.
Then Beemy appeared with his own mistress.
"That is most definitely my cousin's Mad-Eye, forget what she called it-... her though," Sirius, who had been awfully quiet piped up. Lestrange Manor had always been the place Sirius and his brother Regulus hated most, for the last three summers that Sirius was still a 'member' of the family, he and Regulus had spent at least two weeks there along with their parents, Sirius was convinced that Regi had nightmares two weeks after the second visit, due to him going up to the 5th floor, which was forbidden, and being caught by both Bellatrix and her husband, but Regulus refused to admit it.
"Keep an eye on 'er, if she's anythin like Lestrange's whore we won't be able ta let her out of our sight." The Auror with many scars on his face mumbles gruffly.
"Language Alastor," Shacklebolt scolded in a firm voice.
Sirius secured his arms tightly around Adhara, acting as if she would pounce any second and claw at him. "And where do I take her?"
"A muggle couples house, I want ya ta obliviate them, along with her, make em all think she's theirs,"
Sirius nodded, and just like James, he apparated with the child sound asleep in his arms.
Over the next ten minutes the three elves, who were under imperio, had brought nearly all the children from their beds, the only ones left were Titus Carrow, Theodore Nott, Kaius Macnair, Thorfinn Rowle Jr, and Estelle and Clara Selwyn.
When James Potter had arrived back from the Naylor's flat in London, he had a gut-wrenching feeling as though he had made a terrible mistake, he had just taken children from their parents, parents who probably loved them very much, although he kept telling himself otherwise, they were suspected Death Eaters, not even that, they were Death Eaters, he and The Order were saving these children from a life full of suffering and pain, but whenever he told himself this he thought of his son, Harry James Potter, he couldn't stand the thought of somebody taking Harry away from them, it made him sick to his stomach. And now look at him, he had just given two children to none other than Clonny Haylor, a woman who despised children with every inch of her being, not to mention pureblood children, Muggleborn Clonny Haylor and her muggle husband were crazy, and he just handed her over two small children, just like that? James shivered as he remembered the look on the mad woman's face as she watched the sleeping boys while James was in the middle of the Obliviate spell, a look of pure and utter hatred is what James would say to describe it, James Potter will never know why such a hateful woman who hated children would volunteer to take in two innocent children.
James was broken from his thoughts by a small 'pop', James looked over to see his wife approaching, she had just come back from bringing Lucius Malfoy's daughter, Hermione, to a muggle family, Lily still looked distraught that Mad-Eye had split the Malfoy twins up. James knew she regretted what had happened tonight as much as he did, but now it was too late, it was already done.
"This was a mistake James," she whispered blankly, "What will Narcissa Malfoy do now, her husband's final trial is in three days, they've practically already proven he's guilty, we just took her two children..." Lily trailed off.
"It's already done Lil, I'm regretting this as much as you do... but, we just can't go back now," Her husband replied, stroking his wife's cheek. Lily went to open her mouth to say something else but she paused, she was looking off into the distance, "What's wrong Lily?"
"Mad-Eye!" She called, James furrowed his eyebrow.
"What?!" Mad-Eye called back turning around.
Lily pointed at something, everyone looked to see the light on in one of the 3rd-floor rooms, the floor where all the adults were sleeping.
"Good Gods we have to go," Aberforth murmured, "I'll meet you all at Mad Eye's," He grumbled loudly as he apparated.
"Elves!" Moody called with his voice raised, all the three elves appeared, "All of yee forget all this happened, we weren't here, yee didn't take those children, now go!" They all disappeared and Moody stopped using the Imperius Curse.
"What about the rest of them? There's still some left," Another order member shouted.
"Oh I'm sorry, by all means, go on in yerself, I wasn't aware that ye wanted ta die," Moody retorted, a vain almost showing at the side of his head, "We 'ave most of the little runts anyway, we got the first four rooms out of five, now let's go."
"Where on earth are you going, Isadore? It's four in the Gods damn morning," Rabastan Lestrange asked his wife gruffly, the latter who was throwing on a dressing gown and slippers as well as using her wand to turn on the light.
"I'm going to 'heck on Falco, Rab, 'ou know, your son 'ou's injured,"
"Well, why'd you need the bloody light on then?! We're gonna need as much sleep as we can get if we're gonna be bringing the kids to Diagon Alley tomorrow, Don't get me wrong, Dhara and Fal are angels, but Reinhard and ice cream isn't a very good combination," Rabastan huffed as the memories of their last visit to Diagon Alley came back to them both, Isadore giggled.
"I could not fin' my second slipper." Rabastan rolled his eyes at what his wife had just said, he then muttered 'women' which earned him a soft slap on the head with the slipper that Isadore had just found. Isadore left the room as she grinned cheekily back at her husband.
She navigated her way through the long and narrow hallway until she reached the room that both her sons were sleeping in, she smiled as she twisted the knob and opened the door, but when she opened it, she immediately wished she didn't. The smile from her face disappeared within seconds. Isadore did the first thing that came to her mind that second, she screamed.
Rodolphus laid down that night telling his wife that he was 980 galleons richer than he was the day prior, this made Bellatrix laugh.
"Poker really that good?" She asked, he chuckled and nodded.
Then they both went to sleep.
Neither of them expected to be awoken at four o'clock in the bloody morning by a scream from an unknown source, they both bolted up and looked at each other with wide eyes, then got up quickly and made their way out into the hallway as fast as they could, they quickly realized that they were not alone in this action, since the Carrows and Dolohovs were standing out in the hallway also, small Tytus on Taura Carrow's side rubbing his eyes.
"What the fuck was that," Rodolphus quickly asked the confused group.
"I think it came from the fourth floor," Róisín replied, although sounding unsure.
"The children are sleeping on the fourth floor," Amycus gasped, at this the group of adults ran towards the direction of the stairs, passing by the Selwyn couple. They made their way towards the children's rooms. The sight that met them in the first room was surprising.
"Isadore?! Wh-"
"They're gone! The 'ildren! They're not here!" Isadore sobbed into her hands, "My Falco, my Reinhard! Where 'ave you gone!"
The Dolohovs and the Carrows immediately ran into the other rooms where their children were supposed to be. Bellatrix lowered her eyebrows and stared blankly at where her daughter was supposed to be sleeping. No, Adhara was not gone, she probably went back to her own bedroom, Adhara was probably roaming around the manor with the other children at this very moment. It was then Bellatrix realized that Pansy Parkinson was not in her bed also.
"Fuck, oh fuck no, no, please gods no," Rodolphus murmured as he walked over to Adhara's bed and sat down.
"Rodolphus?" Bellatrix croaked, but Rodolphus didn't seem to hear, he just kept stroking their daughter's pillow, tears threatening to spill from his eyes. "Isadore... wha-"
"I- I 'ust 'alked i- in to check on Falco, an- and 'ey vernt 'ere," The french women sobbed harder. Bella continued staring and Rodolphus continued stroking the pillow, breathing heavily.
"Amycus, where are they? Please gods tell me you know where they are! Oh Amycus please!" They all heard from the hallway. Rodolphus stood up suddenly and walked over to Isadore.
"Go and get my brother, inform him of what's going on, I'll ask the elves if they've seen anything, get them to wake everyone else up, and then we'll look for them," He spoke to the two distraught women in the room before walking out into the hallway, Isadore following close behind leaving Bellatrix alone in the room.
Bella pulled out her wand that she had grabbed before leaving her and Rod's bedroom. "Appare Vestigium," She whispered.
She desperately waited for something, anything, to show up. Nothing. Nothing showed up, But how? But why? The spell was supposed to illuminate any traces of magical activity, and there were only a few simple enchantments Bellatrix and the elves had used to prepare the room, Floating spells that the elves would have used to make the beds, a few summoning charms, there was nothing that Bellatrix could see that could indicate that her child and the others children were taken.
Well, then where were they?
Out of the four bedrooms, the fifth was the only one where children had remained untouched, to the Selwyns' relief their two eldest had snuck from the fourth bedroom into the fifth, but this didn't spare their youngest, Alvara. In total there were only six that hadn't been taken, this included Thorfinn Rowle Jr, Theodore Nott, Kaius Macnair, Titus Carrow, and Estelle and Clara Selwyn.
It had been four hours since Isadore had discovered that the children were missing, and the fact that their children had been taken was yet to sink in for some, this could not be said for Narcissa however.
Bellatrix walked down the stairs of Lestrange Manor with her head held high that morning, she refused to let people see her be weak, it didn't matter how much she wanted to scream and cry for her daughter right now, she wouldn't. Bella was surprised to see her sister sitting at the last step of the stairs.
"Cissy?"
Narcissa jumped in fright, it was then Bellatrix saw the tear streaks on her little sisters face, her eyes softened.
"Oh my sweet Cissy, it's ok, we'll find them,"
Narcissa blew into a handkerchief. "How can you be so sure Bellatrix," She sniffled, "I've practically already lost Lucius, I can't afford to lose my babies, but that's the thing isn't it, I've already lost them!" Her sobs picked up again. As if by instinct, The eldest Black sister put an arm around the youngest, "Just eight hours ago I was tucking them both into bed, giving them their goodnight kisses, just yesterday I was helping Hermione pick out which of her books to bring here, just yesterday I was helping Draco feed his owl, I just don't see how, just hours later, they could be gone just like that, I don't understand Bella! Why?!" Narcissa's sobs grew louder and louder.
"Oh Cissy, I know just what you mean, this time yesterday I was dressing little lo- Adhara in her sweet little yellow dress, and in just a few hours Rab and Isadore were supposed to be going to take her, Rein and Fal for ice cream, she was gonna get Chocolate Chili-" Bella's voice broke then, she wouldn't allow herself to continue, scared that she would burst out crying any moment, she collected herself again, Adhara needed her. "We're all going to go out and look for them in a few minutes, you should go and visit Lucius, inform him about the situation, if there's even the smallest chance that he'll know anything, it could be of great help. If you find it too painful to go to the ministry, you can stay here with Viola, Yvonne and Orietta and help mind the remaining children."
"I want to go to the Ministry," Narcissa sniffled.
"Don't tell anyone else of the situation though, let's keep it on the down-low for now,"
Narcissa nodded.
Bellatrix gave her sister a small smile and a nod and walked off to get her cloak.
Whatever fool took her daughter would pay.
Rodolphus and Bellatrix had decided to look in the forest surrounding Lestrange Manor first, in case the unlikely happened and the children had just got out by themselves and went for a wander.
"ADHARA!" Rodolphus bellowed, "IT'S PAPA!" He yelled again, "PETITE ABEILLE!?" Bellatrix frowned, Adhara wouldn't ever even dream of sneaking out in the middle of the night, not even with her friends, something told her Adhara along with all the other missing children, weren't here, but of course, Rodolphus refused to give up, and they both continued deep into the forest.
Isadore and Rabastan along with Amycus and Taura had apparated to a random field somewhere out in Cornwall, with nothing but four vials of some potion, that the Carrows or Isadore didn't know the name of, and four random items, a daisy hairpin belonging to Rosalind Carrow, a toy broom belonging to Boyet Carrow, a magical creature picture book belonging to Falco, and a blue blanket belonging to Reinhard.
"What exactly are we doing here Rab, and how exactly will these objects help us find our children?" Taura asked as she looked around at the mountains and clutched her husband's hand tightly.
"You'll see soon enough, now I'm not entirely sure if that'll work, but it's probably the best idea we got as of now so here goes nothing,"
Rabastan threw each item on the ground at least one meter apart from each other.
"Hand me a vial please love and take one for yourself too, Amycus and Taura take one each to, I'll pour mine over Fal's book, Izzy, you place it over Rein's blanket, Amycus, you do the broom and Taura the hairpin,"
"That's all?" Isadore asked unsurely.
"Yes"
"But I don't understand what it does,"
"It's a tracker potion that my father made when I was just a boy, pour that potion on an item belonging to the person you're tryna find, and it should float off in the direction of that person, in this case, the blanket would float off to Rein, the book to Fal and you get the idea," Rab replied as he poured the potion on his youngest sons book if this did work he would have to buy his youngest son a new one, but that would be no problem of course.
The other three adults followed the youngest Lestrange brothers lead and poured the potion on their children's items.
They all watched intently as the items rose a few feet, they waited another minute but nothing else happened.
"Is this supposed to be happening, Rab?" Amycus asked breaking the silence, Rabastan stayed quiet, still staring at the objects.
"Does this mean heir dead?" Isadore squeaked.
"No, the item would have stayed on the ground if that was the case," Rabstan murmured, "This just means that... We're being blocked from them, oh no, no no no no,"
"What?!" The other three asked in unison.
"There's no doubt in my mind that Dumbledore has something to do with this, really we're some of the most powerful wizards in Britain, now could someone just- just block us? Of course! It all makes sense now,"
Bellatrix and Rodolphus had come near to that conclusion as well, but their minds weren't on Dumbledore, not now anyway, although they did suspect him.
"Gods Bella I swear if he did have anything to do with the kidnapping of our daughter, I think I may kill him," Rodolphus growled right after he banged as hard as he could on the door.
"Not before I, Rodolphus, Not before I," Bellatrix murmured back trying to contain her anger.
The large red door opened and Bellatrix immediately slammed it open further as she slammed the man who opened it against the wall.
"Hello Sirius," Bellatrix growled to her cousin, her eyes never betraying her emotions.
"Cousin," Was Sirius' response.
"We know what you did," She replied simply.
Of course, Sirius knew what she was on about, but he wouldn't let his cousin and her husband know that.
"Wha-"
"Where is she eh? What did you do with my daughter!" Rodolphus yelled as he took over from Bellatrix.
Sirius knew that he would have to play this smart if he was to get out of this alive.
"You-you're daughter?" He managed to choke out under Rodolphus death grip around his throat. Rodolphus's eyes were livid with anger and hatred.
"YES MY DAUGHTER YOU FILTHY BLOOD TRAITOR. WHERE. IS. SHE!?" Rodolphus bellowed.
"Nothing, I- I don't know what you're-"
"LIAR," Bellatrix screeched, "I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU DID TO HER, NOW, IF YOU TELL ME WHERE SHE IS, ALONG WITH THE OTHER CHILDREN MIND YOU, WE'LL KILL YOU QUICKLY,"
Sirius gulped, but he however shook his head as much as he could manage.
"Listen, I didn't- I don't know- I swear-"
Bellatrix took over from Rodolphus again. When she did Rodolphus furiously stomped around swinging open doors and cupboards and throwing everything out. When he didn't find anything on the third floor he stomped up the stairs.
"ADHARA!? FALCO!? REINHARD!?" He went on shouting all the children's names.
"Now you listen here Sirius, you tell me where they are, I'm giving you one more chance to tell me where they are Sirius, one more chance," Bellatrix growled as she loosened her hold on his throat.
"Bellatrix, I swear, I didn't take Addison-"
"ADHARA!"
"Adhara," Sirius corrected himself quickly, "But you have to believe me, Gods i didn't even know her goddamn name and I was only reminded of her existence today, I swear to you Bella, I didn't do anything to your daughter," He continued to lie, in truth, he left the girl with a couple of rich muggles who craved a daughter but were unable to have anymore children, and their son, who was only a year older than the child, all of whom lived in Birmingham. he even went as far as to modify all of their memories, including Adhara herself, to make them think the girl was theirs, to conclude he left Adhara Lestrange in a nice and loving home, he didn't have to, Sirius could have left her in an abusive household just as Mad Eye did with the Lestrange Twins.
Bellatrix searched her cousin's eyes continuously and looked at her cousin's eyes and facial features to check for any signs that he was lying; Sirius must have been an extremely good actor, because after she slammed him one more time against the wall, she let him go, turning her back on him, putting her hand up to her mouth. Sirius stayed silent, watching to see what his cousin would do next, It was when she turned around, Sirius Orion Black saw something he never thought he would ever see Bellatrix Asterope Lestrange née Black, had tears running down her face, tears. Bellatrix was taking big breaths as though she were trying her best not to cry, although she was failing miserably. Sirius stared at her with wide eyes, a pang of guilt in his gut.
"Rod, c'mon," Bellatrix turned around to glare at her cousin one more time, both shed and unshed tears glistening in her eyes, "She's not here."
Rodolphus came down the stairs, a blank expression on his face, fists and jaw clenched. "This isn't over Black," He muttered. Then they apparated, leaving Sirius awestruck.
'What have I done'
"I understand that you're all having... difficulties," The Dark Lord drawled from the top of the table. There was a chorus of 'Yes My Lord'
"Well then, explain," He demanded.
That they did, The Dark Lord was listening intently.
"I see... Did you tell anyone?"
It was Rowle who replied, who had lost two of his triplets, Esme and Hestia Jr. "Not that I know of my lord,"
Voldemort nodded, he looked around the table and saw everyone shake their heads.
"Good, I don't want anyone to hear a word of this, the last thing we need is for them to think us weak because you all couldn't do the bare minimum and simply place a few small wards," He spoke as he clenched his jaw and closed his eyes. Narcissa let out another sob, which her sister kicked her under the table for.
"Cissy, pull yourself together woman," Bellatrix hissed.
"Em my lord..." Rodolphus began.
"Yes Mr. Lestrange,"
There might be someone who knows about our current... situation," He forced out lowly, Voldemort's eyes narrowed, everyone else at the tables heads snapped towards Rodolphus Lestrange.
"Go on," The Dark Lord said in a dangerously low voice.
"Sirius Black."
"How?" Voldemorts voice was lower now.
Rodolphus explained what had happened three hours before.
"HOW FOOLISH CAN YOU TWO BE, FIRST YOU TWO DON'T DO THE SIMPLEST THING AND PUT UP A FEW SMALL WARDS, NOW YOU'VE GONE AND FED THE ENEMY WITH INFORMATION!" The ark lord yelled at the Lestrange couple, Bellatrix had her head down in shame.
"With all due respect my lord, we did put up wards, there has always has been, that's why this is all so shocking, because nobody got in, the elves would have been alerted," Rodolphus defended. Voldemort's eyes narrowed again, he sat down again and ran his hands down her face as if he were thinking.
"Did you try any tracking spells?" He asked them all.
"Yes m'lord," Hector Fawley responded, "Every single one we learned about, read in books, gods Rod and Rab's pops made one, but the only thing that came out of any of it is that we know their all alive."
"And how do you know that, Rodolphus, Rabastan?" The Dark Lord asked two of his followers. Rabastan was the one who responded.
"You see my lord, in order for the potion to work, you require an object belonging to the person you are trying to find, once you pour the potion onto the object, it is supposed to float to the person it is tracking, no matter how far away that person be, or how far underground, it would dig a hole underground, but that's not what I'm trying to get at, if the item stays still and doesn't move at all then it means the at all, then it means the person is dead, if it rises a few feet it means that the person is alive, but they're being blocked, and then you all know the last one I assume,"
The Dark Lord nodded his head, "So they're being... blocked?"
Rabastan nodded, "It's slightly hard to explain, but I'll try, their location is being blocked... well by magic. Their magic is being blocked also, but not, from themselves, but from us, so if we wanted to track their magic for instance, which would have been a possibility, we can't. But that doesn't mean we can't try to find them, it just means we cannot use magic or potions or anything in that category to do so," Rabastan went on as everyone watched him intently, hanging onto his every word.
"Does that mean that... we won't truly have a chance of finding any of them until... they each eleven," Perseus Parkinson inquired as he held his wife, Marissa's hand. Rabastan looked at him questionably. "If they still have their magic, they'll have to get a letter from at least one of the schools won't they, I mean, either that or the ones who don't get ones are... you know," Everyone nodded at this, including Rabastan.
Tiana Fawley eyes widened, "Does this mean I won't be able to see my Cy until he's eleven?"
"If we don't have any luck finding them over the next few years then I'm afraid so," Rabastan Lestrange responded sadly. Tiana slapped her hand over her mouth
"What do we do now my lord?" Róisín Dolohov asked, tears streaming down her face, "How do I find my Fionn?"
"We do whatever it takes," Voldemort responded simply. "Continue your searches, until you find your children, I shall go now, but I wish you the best of luck."
Bellatrix left the meeting quietly, but she didn't go with the others to the living room on the second floor, no, her feet took her somewhere else, before she knew where she was going she looked up, she was in Adhara's bedroom.
Bellatrix Lestrange walked around the room without making a sound, she stopped at her daughter's bed, slowly picking up one of the many teddys on top of it, this one was one that gave of a calming aura whenever a child cried, Adhara's favorite, Nounours (French for teddy), although it was hardly ever needed, Adhara never cried.
Is she crying right now? Is she hurt? Is she Happy? Gods Bellatrix hoped Adhara was happy, Or is she crying for her and Rod at this very moment? These were all questions Bella wished she knew the answer to. What if she never finds her? What if this and what if that.
It was then Bellatrix did something she had only done a few times since she was a child herself. She cried.
