Chapter One
[In which Acolyte Fenrir accuses Overseer Tremel of screwing up, shoves him into his desk, and gets away with it.]
"And finally, you released the suspected forger. Such a decision was highly questionable. Why did you do it?"
"He's innocent," Fenrir answered. "Why torment an innocent?"
"Innocent or not, he now leaves here with first hand experience of our facilities and procedures," chastised Overseer Tremel. "It's potentially comprising to have him roaming the Galaxy."
"Counter," said Fenrir, raising a finger and thinking fast. "The jailor said that interrogations are done off world, but you had the prisoners flown in for me, even though I never asked for that."
"You're point?"
"Anything he knows, is because of you," Fenrir answered. "Any risk he poses, is your fault as much as mine." At this, Tremel tried to give a backhanded slap onto Fenrir's cheek, not expecting him to step backwards then push him back with the Force. Tremel drew his Lightsaber while Fenrir thought at lighting speed and held out a hand to Moon-Moon who stood and began to growl, teeth bared.
'Block weapon. Tear throat. Place body at desk. Leave building. Hijack shuttle. Run. Hide. Survive.'
"Never do that to me again Acolyte," Tremel warned with a snarl. "Or I will kill you."
"You can't. You need me," Fenrir countered, a smile forming on his face. "I die, Vemrin will be Baras's Apprentice. Your plan fails."
"I can always find someone else," Tremel countered.
"How long will that take?" Silence. Overseer and Acolyte stared at each other for a full minute, neither side standing down. Finally Tremel relented and put his Lightsaber away.
"You're clever, Acolyte," he said. "Perhaps you'll be more able to impress Baras than I thought."
"Thanks," Fenrir said.
"Your next trial will be tomorrow," Tremel said as he returned to his seat. "For now, you are free to prepare yourself. Now get out off my sight." Fenrir bowed, turned, and walked out off the office with his pet, leaving Tremel with his thoughts.
'He's certainly clever,' he thought. 'But Baras won't allow such defiance. He'll need to become more obedient.'
