Warning: brief mentions of suicide

! MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE SHOW + ENDING! I RECOMMEND YOU FINISH IT FIRST (available on Netflix) !

It's a funny thing, the sky. It changes every day. Clouds, colours, weather. Every day is different. The sky changes from blue to pink to orange to black. Gray to yellow to pink to blue again. It changes so dramatically, yet we never truly notice it. Nobody ever stops to stare at the sky and watch it change for a day. So slow that we can't process it fully.

Misa Amane had always wondered, as a little girl, if there were people controlling it. Something so precise and beautiful must have been created by humans, right? Perhaps there was a colony of cloud-people that lived in the sky, painting it with huge paintbrushes. They were the ones who drove the clouds like cars. Perhaps they were carriages, driven by white, feathered Pegusi. They'd clear the traffic jams of clouds so that the sun could shine. Or, they'd bring them back for a rainstorm.

Such work must be dangerous, Misa had thought. They could get burned by the sun, electrocuted by the lightning, drowned in oceans of rain, buried and frozen by the snow.

The work would be difficult too. Working all day and night, constantly painting the sky and changing the weather. Such massive amounts of pain that must have caused. And for what? What would the cloud-people get in return?

Misa had always wondered what it would be like, to devote your entire life, give your everything, to something so dangerous. She figured she would never truly experience that.

That is, until she met Light Yagami.

Misa Amane had everything she'd ever wanted. Fame, money, beauty. She was a model and an actress, and a famous one at that. Everyone wanted to be her.

And she'd put in lots of work, toiled and cried through late hours of the night. The diets, the makeup, everything to make her perfect.

Her teen and young adult years had been her worst. She'd lie awake at night and cry over the death of her parents. Over failed tests and dropping grades. Over bullying and shaming.

But she'd remember the cloud-people, and how they never gave up. She'd remember all of the people before her who never gave up. So she worked hard, and finally got her dream.

But something was missing. She felt empty, and bored. Her life was missing a thrill, a sense of danger. And the Death Note solved that. Approached by Rem, she realized this was what she needed. A sense of power. A thrill.

What was half of her life anyways?

And when the person known as Kira killed the man who killed her parents...Misa was determined to find him.

And she did…

Light Yagami, so handsome and kind. Ruthless, but not to a fault. Caring and honest and so, so wonderful.

And when he asked her to help him rule the world with her as his queen...she accepted.

She finally knew what she was missing. The danger that at any point, she could be killed. And she'd do so for Light. She'd devote her entire life, give her everything just for him. She gave up two halves of her remaining life just to help him!

But she was rewarded. With hidden kisses, whispered words, plans and plots of revenge and power. And when he ruled, he promised she would be by his side.

Light was powerful. He killed over two hundred thousand people! He outsmarted L, and killed him. He outsmarted, tricked, or even killed Watari, Higuchi, the entire task force...even his own father. But Misa knew he had a weakness, an Achilles heel.

He was full of himself, egotistical, with a warped sense of judgment. Maybe he didn't know what he was doing when he killed his first victim. Maybe he started out using his powers as best he could. But as he kept killing and killing, tangling himself up in webs of lies and guilt, he killed innocents, and started to lose any part of good in him that was left, even willing to kill his own father and sister if it benefited him even slightly. So sure he would win, and in the end, that was his downfall.

Near outsmarted him.

When Misa heard the news, that Matsuda had shot him in a fit of rage, something broke inside of her.

You see, you take a gamble when you put your everything into someone or something. You bet all your chips. Either you double them, and rule the world, or you are left with nothing and you lose everything.

Everything she did was for Light. And in the end, it failed.

Her whole life revolves around him, and he was dead.

And as Misa stood at the edge of the building, makeup done perfectly, black gothic dress blowing out around her, she stared up at the sky.

Why? She wailed silently. Why did you have to take everything from me?

Light was her purpose. But maybe this was her destiny, to give her everything and lose.

And as she stepped off the edge of the tall building, she looked out at the darkening sunset. Wondering if the cloud-people thought it was worth it. How they found the strength to keep on going.

Misa didn't know where she'd go when she died, but she would accept it. Just before her body hit the asphalt road, she had two final thoughts.

She'd still give her everything.

Even if she lost.

A/N

Sorry, I feel like I was kind of rambling. Hopefully this made sense! I saw many fans speculating she jumped off the building she was standing on in the last scene due to Light's death, which is what I thought as well.

Misa was always one of my favourite characters, along with Light. Death Note is such an interesting show that really makes you think. What would you do if you got a hold of a Death Note? Plus, the perspective of what would typically be the 'bad guy' was so interesting. It's like this show was made for me! I love mysteries.

Sorry this last bit has gone on for a while. Have a great day!
