Charlie's POV:

Charlie yawned as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes. She turned her focus away from the computer in front of her, looking over at the clock on the wall, and saw it was twenty seven minutes until six in the morning. She had pulled another all nighter, again. She sighed as she saved her work on her laptop, when she heard a soft thud next to her and saw a white coffee mug placed next to her.

"Five milk chocolate chunks, two teaspoons of sugar, a splash of milk and whip cream." She heard, and turned to see her best friend and partner, Vaggie, smile gently at her. A coffee mug in her own hands.

"Thanks Vaggie." Charlie said, taking the mug into her hands, and taking a small sip.

The strong coffee mixed with the sugar, chocolate, milk and whip cream instantly reviving her. Charlie let out a sigh of content.

"Feel better?" Vaggie asked, leaning against the desk as she blew into her mug and proceeded to take a sip of her coffee.

"Much, thanks." Charlie replied as she turned back to her work and closed her lap top.

"Good, can't have you collapsing during the interview today." Vaggie said as Charlie began to pack her laptop into it's case, when she paused.

"What? What intervi— Oh no, it's today?!" Charlie asked, pulling her cellphone out of the charging station next to her and checked her agenda and saw the all familiar, notice on her calandra.

"Crap! I forgot!" Charlie said, dropping her cell on the desk and nearly pulling her long blonde locks out.

Vaggie leaned over and placed a hand on her shoulder, "Calm down, the interview isn't until much later so you've got enough time to rest and be ready."

Charlie looked at her, still panicking, "But I have no clue what the hell I'm going to say!"

"You told me you were going to work on answers and the information you were going to talk about, weeks ago."

"I was but then I got sidetracked with this new possible formula that might help with the study and I got... distracted..." Charlie replied, poking her point fingers together in a sheepishly manner.

Vaggie sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose, "Ok, ok. First things first, you need a shower and a nap, cause you look like one of those fucking blood suckers." She said, trying to maintain her cool.

She helped Charlie out of her chair and out of the large room/lab they were both currently in. They walked down the empty hallway of the large once abandoned mansion they were now using as a rehabilitation hospital.

"Ok remember, when you go up, to be professional. This is very serious what you're working on and once it works, this whole thing will finally end." Vaggie said before taking a sip of her coffee.

"I know Vaggie, I know." Charlie replied, drinking some of her own coffee. She turned to the shielded windows as the large metal shutters installed to them began to automatically slowly rise, letting in the early morning lights through the steel bars placed over the windows for extra protection as Vaggie stopped next to her and smiled.

"Another day, another night to come. And another night innocent people probably suffered on the other side of the geodesic domes." Vaggie muttered, her smile disappearing as Charlie turned to her.

"It'll be ok, my dad called last night and said he and a half the army are going out again today to search for any innocents who are still hiding." She said, placing a hand on her friend's shoulder for comfort. Vaggie gave a small nod and sighed before they continued to their way down the hallway.

Charlie sighed as she entered her bedroom after a long, well needed thirty minute shower. She walked over to her closet and began to pick out her most professional outfit to wear for the live news interview later. After picking out a pair of black dress pants, a white collar dress shirt, and a pink dress coat. She set the pants on a chair next to the door and left the dress shirt and coat hanging up on the door, before she turned her tv on. As she listened to the news on the tv, she dressed into her undergarments then into black shorts and a pink tank top.

"Last night was a close call. So far there have been no reports of vampires having broken through the silver geodesic dome. And if any did, they were most likely staked through the heart. It's another beautiful morning here in Crimson City. Complete clear skies, not single cloud to be seen." Charlie heard the news woman, Katie Bitterman say before she turned the tv off.

She sat down in front of the vanity in her room and began to brush her hair. Her mind began to wonder, thinking of all the humans still stuck on the other side of the safe areas around the world. Imagining them all, having to search for food and staying on high alert wherever they go out into the open. She knew her father and the rest of the human army worked as hard as they could to try and help and save as many humans that they could find, but sometimes even that was not enough. Her hand paused mid brush, as her mind began to wonder to the day she had decided to work into finding a cure.

~Flash Back~

Charlie had always been a very curious child, growing up behind the protective walls of the giant pure silver geodesic dome that had been build over Crimson City. She always wonder what the outside world was like. Only being able to see parts of the destroyed and deserted buildings beyond the dome only made her more curious. She had been walking home from hanging out with Vaggie when it happened.

At the time, how can anyone let alone a fourteen year old, have known that somehow a vampire would be able to breach the dome? The security was completely tight all over the city, and yet somehow a vampire had managed to break through without problems. Charlie hadn't seen what had happened before she heard screams coming closer to her before she saw innocent civilians running in her direction. She didn't have much time to react until she found herself shoved and pushed to the ground by the frightened crowd. She flinched as she sat up, looking down at her left elbow and saw a really bad scrape.

Charlie heard a scream, before she looked up to see a vampire tackle a man to the ground and sink his fangs into the man's neck. She gasped, as she saw the vampire's attention then turned to her, as if smelling her blood. She scrambled to run as the vampire advanced on her before Charlie found herself pinned to the ground. She struggled against his grip as the vampire leaned down to her, inhaling her scent as he smirked.

"Delicious, I can't wait any longer." The vampire said, opening his mouth, a wide smile on his face.

Charlie shut her eyes, praying for someone to safe her when she heard what sounded like a gun shot. She opened her right eye to see the vampire choking on a bullet wound on his neck, his blood seeping out of his mouth and the bullet hole. She scrambled away as quickly as she could as the blood sucker struggled to stop the bleeding.

"Charlie!"

She looked to see Vaggie running towards her, five other soldiers running with her, all of them heavily armed. Vaggie stopped in front of her, looking at her worried.

"You ok? You didn't get bitten right? Or did any blood get on you?" She asked, concerned.

"I'm fine Vaggie, and no I didn't get bit or anything. B-But that man." Charlie said, looking over at the man the vampire had attacked before pouncing on her.

She jumped to her feet, ignoring the bloody scene happening next to her as the soldiers slit the vampire's throat, decapitating him.

"Charlie wait!" Vaggie shouted, following the concerned blonde.

Charlie kneeled next to the injured man, who appeared to be in pain from his neck injury. Charlie reached over when the man grabbed her wrist, looking her in the eye.

"P-Please.. kill me... please kill me... I don't want to be turned..." he said, between coughs and gasps, still holding his throat and nearly choking himself with his own bare hands.

Charlie stared in shock as she stared at the man. He looked, so frightened. Charlie then found herself pulled away from the man by Vaggie, who shoved the man away.

"Get back Charlie!" Vaggie shouted, pulling out a forty-five caliber pistol, and pointed it at the man's forehead.

Charlie didn't have much time to react after, as she watched the man continue to beg to be killed before Vaggie shot him in an execution style manner. She then watched as his throat was slashed, the man's head rolling a few inches away from his now headless body. The next thing she knew is that, she heard what sounded like crying. She looked up to see a woman, hugging two children close to her as they appeared to be crying and trying to comfort each other. The reality hit her when she noticed a faint gold mark on the woman's hand. She was the man's wife, and the children were the man's. His family, his family were crying for him.

Charlie slowly walked over as Vaggie watched her, concerned as she helped the soldiers pick up the body and head and carried it off to be burned.

"E-Excuse me, t-that man just now. He was your husband correct?" Charlie asked, as gently as she could to the mourning family.

"H-He didn't deserve t-to b-be changed. H-He t-tried to protect us.." the woman stuttered, unable to speak properly through her sobs. Charlie reached over and placed a hand on her shoulder for comfort.

~End of Flashback~

Charlie stared down at her lap, as she replayed the memory over and over in her head. She remembered since the incident that she vowed to find a cure for vampires and victims. She didn't want to have to relive another incident and watch another innocent person suffer as they slowly changed into a blood sucking monster. After she finished brushing her hair, she tied it into a long braid before she got up from the vanity and laid down on her bed. Charlie turned to her right side, to face her nightstand, setting her alarm for an hour before her interview. She then turned onto her back and stared at the ceiling before she closed her eyes and sighed. Charlie remembered when she first talked to her dad about wanting to open the hospital.

She remembered his reaction to what she told him. And just like everyone else, believed her idea to help vampires was impossible and a waste of time. Afterwards she talked with her mom, and days later, she spoke with both her parents. Charlie had no clue what her mother told her father, but she was happy her mother managed to convince him to give her idea a chance. And she is going to use this chance to prove to everyone how wrong they.

'I'm not going to give up, no matter what happens. I will find a cure and help all the vampires and the humans.' Where her last thoughts before she drifted off to sleep.

~Dream~

Charlie opened her eyes, and gasped. She found herself in what looked like a field of some sort, sitting under a tree for shade. The field itself was nothing but lushes green grass and various wildflowers growing here and there. Charlie couldn't help smile as she stared in awe at the beautiful scenery in front of her, finding it peaceful and relaxing. She gasped before she saw something else from the corner of her eyes, and she looked down. She looked down to find someone laying down next to her, the person's head was resting in her lap. They appeared to be sleeping. Charlie stared, finding it difficult to see the person's face but she could tell the person was a male. She couldn't help the small smile appear on her face as she looked down at the man. Charlie reached down and gently stroked his hair from his face. Her movements appeared to wake the man, who moved and turned to her.

Charlie could tell his mouth move, as if speaking but she couldn't hear a single world he said. The man continued to speak before reached up, and she felt him touch her right cheek gently, tenderly stroking her cheek with his thumb. Charlie felt something spark in her chest, before smiling down at the man. She reached over and rested her hand over his own, holding his hand closer to her face. She smiled fondly down at the man as he continued to stroke her cheek. The man then sat up, smiling at her and leaned closer to her. Charlie felt her cheeks burn up a little as the man was very close, his nose centimeters away from hers, almost touching. She then felt the man wrap his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him. She reached up herself and wrapped her arms around his neck, smiling more. Both began to lean closer to each other, when a faint noise caught her attention and noticed everything around her began to fade to white.

~End of Dream~

Charlie's eyes snapped open as her alarm rang loudly. Annoyed, she reached over and slapped her hand on the alarm, shutting it off. She turned away, and rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she yawned tired.

"Stupid alarm…" she muttered in annoyance. She then sat up and climbed out of bed to get ready for her interview when she paused, she reached up and touched her right cheek.

"Why do I feel… like I've forgotten something important…?"
