It was a sunny day out, with no signs of cloudy weather that Carly chose to hang out with her best friend, Samantha. With both having crazy work schedules and many of their off days being used to get important errands done, they had to plan weeks ahead of time for them to spend time together. She walked up to the steps of her apartment door and knocked, excited to see Sam.
Within moments Sam opened the door and greeted her with a hug. Sam had short curly light brown hair and bright blue eyes while Carly had dark brown hair that reached just below her shoulders and brown eyes.
"Carly! How are you?" Sam asked.
"Just peachy. Yourself?" Carly replied as Sam led her in.
"I'm great! Work's definitely kept me busy!" Sam showed her to the living room, where her laptop was connected to the TV.
"I know that feeling," Carly grunted with a pained smile.
"Ready to watch some RWBY?" Sam eagerly asked. Her eyes gleamed in excitement.
RWBY was a show created by the company Rooster Teeth about huntsman and huntresses based on fairy tales fighting against monsters called Grimm led by a crazy woman named Salem. The last time Sam and Carly were together they had finished volume six, and volume seven had just recently come out.
Carly sat down, getting comfortable and replied, "Let's do this."
Sam hit the play button and her TV showed the loading screen for a few moments before something odd happened. The whole thing shut off and the screen went black.
Sam and Carly looked at each other with a confused look before Sam moved to fiddle with the laptop.
"Maybe it's a connection error?" Carly supplied.
"No," Sam said as she clicked on the screen, "I checked it all right before you came here, and it was all working."
Carly got up to look behind the TV to see if there was maybe a loose cable while Sam continued to try to see if the laptop would work. As Carly got close to the television Sam spoke.
"Uh, Carly?"
Carly turned as Sam turned the laptop to show the screen now had the RWBY disconnection symbol, which consisted of the colors of the main characters. Carly frowned and turned back to the television to see that it had the same disconnection symbol. A second later the disconnection pitch began to play, so loud that both females had to cover their ears. Carly turned to her friend and shouted, "What the hell's going on?!"
"I don't know!" Sam yelled back.
A few seconds later the screeching stopped and Carly saw out of the corner of her eye the TV screen glitch. It glitched from the RWBY disconnection to white snow to a symbol that went by too fast for either of them to make out. Sam walked to stand next to Carly to watch the craziness unfold as the glitches went faster and faster.
Suddenly it all went black again.
Carly and Sam looked at one another, sharing a look.
"What the fu—"
Suddenly the screen went blindingly white with a loud boom. Sam and Carly had to cover their eyes as they stepped back, surprised. But before they could completely recover, wind surrounded them, pushing them to the television.
No.
It was pulling them.
"Sam! Grab my hand!" Carly yelled as she reached out to Sam while she tried to find something to hold onto to prevent them from…being sucked into the TV?
Sam latched onto her hand but as she did so the wind picked so much so that both females fell to the ground.
Carly found herself letting out a yell of exclamation as she was pulled to the white light, still clutching Sam's hand. Unable to resist the pull of whatever was drawing them, Sam and Carly were dragged into the blinding light. Overcome, Carly blacked out.
Carly groaned as she felt herself awaken, her head pounding so hard it felt as if someone was banging a gong inside of it. She tried to get up, only to realize that something was on her. Not something, some stuff. Forcing her eyes open despite the pain, Carly opened her eyes to see rubble on top of her. Posts, broken stones, and other objects covered her.
Shocked, Carly maneuvered herself out of the rubble, careful as to not scrape herself on anything that could be dangerous. As she did, Carly felt a breeze brush her cheek, causing her to whirl around, despite the pain throughout her body.
The area around her was unfamiliar, with no signs of life. Buildings were extremely damaged, no voices could be heard, and smoke reached to the sky, filling the air with its awful stench. Horror filled her heart as she canvased the area, seeing nothing but what looked like the remnants of an attack.
'What happened here? And why does it look vaguely familiar?'
The style of the remaining buildings tickled Carly's memories, as well as the scenery that she could catch outside of the town she seemed to be in.
Taking a few steps away, Carly heard a cry.
"Carly? Carly, are you there?!"
Sam!
"Sam! I'm here! Follow my voice!" Carly yelled out. After some coordination, Carly saw Sam round a burned building.
"Carly! Are you okay?" Sam exclaimed in relief at seeing her. She ran to her darker haired friend. Carly gave her a weak thumbs up and embraced her friend in a hug. As they pulled apart, it was then that Carly noticed Sam's outfit.
"How long was I out? You've got a whole new get up!" Carly complimented. Sam was wearing an outfit that had white top with loose sleeves, dark green shorts, an archer's glove, brown shoes, emerald earrings, and deep green hood with a long flowing deep green cape shimmering with leaf and floral designs. Attached via a dark brown strap was a bow and quiver filled with arrows, which caught her eyes even more.
"Only a few moments! And you have a new style too!" Sam pointed out.
Carly looked down and saw that she was wearing black tights with an orange skirt that was short in front and long in the back, a black tank top with an orange bandeau top that had sleeves with white swirl and feather designs. She also had black boots some sort of mechanical wings attached via straps to her back. Her dark hair was in a ponytail and she had, also on her, a huge orange hobby horse.
"Wow."
Before Carly could say anything else, memories of what happened earlier flooded her mind.
"What the hell happened?!"
Sam shrugged and said, "I have no idea. One moment we're in my living room and now we're here!"
Silence filled the air as the two friends looked around once more, as if hoping to magically find an answer, before Carly said, "Is it just me, or does this place seem…slightly familiar?"
Sam frowned, "Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I can't figure out where we are," she paused, appearing deep in thought as she seemed to be trying to connect their location to the memory connected to it.
Carly, seeing the destruction around her, touched her friends shoulder, which caused Sam to break out of her thoughts and look at her, and said, "We'll figure it out eventually. But right now, perhaps we should look for survivors? This place looks as if it was just recently attacked, and people may need some help."
Sam smiled before she said, "I was just about to suggest that. Let's get to it."
Both females split up to cover more ground, but didn't go too far from one another as they didn't want to lose sight of the either with danger still possibly lurking around. But unfortunately, they had no luck and only found destruction and death.
As Carly was listening for any cries for help or threatening sounds, she heard a crash. Thinking it might be a survivor, Carly ran to the sound, only to find another broken building. She noticed a broken photo on the ground and couldn't help but kneel down to take a closer look.
The photo depicted a smiling family in front of a home. They looked excited, like they had just moved in and were hopeful about the future. Carly felt her heart fill with sorrow at the sight, knowing that they most likely didn't survive whatever happened here.
Carly felt a hand touch her shoulder and looked up to see Sam looking at her with a similar upset expression. Carly reached up and put a hand over Sam's before looking back at the photo for a heartbeat before closing her eyes. Neither said a word as they had a moment of silence for the lives lost here.
Carly turned and opened her mouth to speak to Sam about what they should do next, only to be interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Guys! Over here! I've found survivors!"
Carly got up as she felt her heart freeze, shock overtaking her. Her eyes widened and she heard Sam gasp as she saw what she saw.
Running up to them were the characters of RWBY, Ruby Rose, Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren, and Jaune Ark.
Sam and Carly glanced at one another is amazement, both having the same thought.
'We're in the world of RWBY?'
