Daisuke let out a deep breath as he stood in front of the tall pillars that gated UA's entrance. Although he had heard many things about the place from not only his guardian, Ava, but her brother, All Might himself, as well, the sight he got to see today was still breath taking.
UA. The school that All Might went to and now, the school he would be going to. Daisuke already knew he'd be passing the entrance exam. He studied long and hard for the written part and the physical...well, no one else was as good as he was. Even All Might had to admit that. When it came to the handle of his quirk and the way he moved while in battle, there was just no stopping him. Part of it was because his biological father was Endeavor, the number two hero in all of Japan. But Daisuke didn't reside on his heritage alone. No one gained his level of reflexes off of genes.
Daisuke walked up to the front steps, looking around the area for a sign of instruction. They didn't expect them to just know where to go, right? He wasn't stupid, but a map would help.
"Everyone taking the written portion of the entrance exam, follow me!" An enthusiastic blonde man shouted down the hall, his entire outfit consisting of leather and...well, that was about it. The only other item on him was a few metal buckles and studs. His hair was everywhere as well, pushed up into something similar to the crest feathers of a cockatoo.
Daisuke followed him and found himself in a large lecture hall. Other students were looking forward as they started fishing out pencils and other such things. Daisuke had always hated the feel of a testing room. It was always too quiet, too sterile for him to focus, but this was more than just a silly math quiz. This was his passage into the hero academy. This test meant his entire future and he wouldn't let Ava down.
Sitting in the seat closest to him, Daisuke pulled out his own supplies and let out a breath. He trained hard for this, having studies day and night with his mentor. He knew the information on this test like the back of his hand, but he'd have to be ready for any curve balls they threw his way as well. He knew how evil school coronations were with their test questions. If he got stuck at any point or felt like giving up, his chance at UA was over.
The blond man stood at the front of the lecture room, a wide smile on his lips as he looked at the clock. After a moment, he looked up towards them again and finally let out an unnecessarily loud "Begin!"
...
After the written test was a physical exam. This was the part Daisuke was looking forward to the most. Ava had refused to give him any secrets about the tests, as well as All Might when he asked, but it didn't matter. He was a fighter at heart, always had been, and this was where he could really shine.
Looking at the other students around him, Daisuke raised an eyebrow at some of the strange quirks he saw. There were people with outrageously large heads, others with drooping fingers and limbs and others who had animal features. None of them looked like a real threat, but he knew looks could be deceiving. After another moment of analysis, Daisuke looked ahead towards the large doors of their exam.
He could only imagine the things that lay on the other side. Despite the description of their test, he still felt like there was much to be known about these robots they were assigned to fight. The fact there were a few zero pointers didn't quite make sense to him, but he guessed they were just weak little things that would end up wasting their time. It could be a test of their priorities as a hero. That, or it was just a way to file out the weaker students.
Everyone jumped when the doors began to shift, the entire Earth seeming to shake from just how massive they were. Slowly, the other side of the wall came into view and Daisuke's lips pulled into a wide smirk. It looked like a mock city from what he could see. There were already robots crossing between the streets, zipping this way and that across their path. He crouched towards the floor, ready to push his quirk into full power at the moment they allowed them in.
For a long moment, every halted. The air was thick, almost as if it had stopped moving at all. Then, the buzzer rang out and everyone moved forward like a massive herd. Daisuke felt his legs push into gear, his hair flowing behind him as he thrust himself into the air with full force. His hands grew hot from the flames covering them, but it wasn't enough to hurt his skin. Within seconds, he was lifting off and throwing himself above the crowd.
He landed near the front and ran forward at to speed. He would be the first to get in the city and the first to destroy those robots! He already knew he was stronger than the rest, just was a basic fact, and he planned to show that here and now.
Once he had reached his first robot, he used his quirk to shoot a concentrated stream from his hand, blasting it in it's stupid head and melting the metal as he went. That was a three pointer. He mentally counted the points as he ran for the next, this time, pushing himself into the air and delivering a hard kick into it's red sensor.
He continued his pattern of destroying the closest robot and then counting up the point. As he jumped and kicked and blew fire out of his fists, he chanted his point count in his head endlessly, never letting himself forget. If he lost the number, then he's forget whether he had really made it or not. He couldn't let himself get distracted by the pure energy running through him.
After he hit his 200 point mark, Daisuke began to feel something rumbling beneath his feet. He didn't mind it at first, assuming it was someone's quirk and continued to fight, but it kept getting bigger and closer. Eventually, it was too much to ignore and he stopped for a moment, his latest fire blast still melting the robot in front of him. That made 226.
He could see it above the skyline. The buildings couldn't shelter the pure size of this monster and as Daisuke watched it get closer and closer, it's little red sensors looking around at the students, he found himself hesitating. What was that?! Weren't the highest pointed robots only up to three? How could something be that big and why on Earth was it even there in the first place?
Suddenly, an idea struck him and he felt his awe shift into confidence again. It was big, yet, but these robots weren't exactly the fastest. If he could get enough fire behind him, be might be able to take it down. Even better, he could gain whatever point bonus this monster had on it and win this exam for sure!
Already beginning to head towards the robot, he saw other people screaming and running away in fear. This really was a test of their actions as a hero. Most of the people who were running likely wouldn't make the cut, but Daisuke knew better. A hero didn't run from villains, no matter their size or how scary they were. A hero didn't run when the the time to fight came. He would be a better hero than the others and prove his worth to the one person who never believed in him. He would show her.
Daisuke stopped in his tracks when he saw the large zero covering the robot's chest. Wait. Was this really a zero pointer? That couldn't be. Why would they make them so large if defeating them had no purpose? Was it to test how they'd react, if they'd even bother to challenge it? Or was it just to add chaos into the mix? He wasn't sure but suddenly, his confidence dwindled. This wasn't worth the trouble. He'd be loosing points but facing it off and he didn't have time for that.
Just as he started to rush away from the robot, not wanting to get in the way of it's destruction, he saw a flash of green zoom past him and froze again. Looking back, he manage to spot a glowing kid running towards the robot at top speeds. It almost reminded him of Ava, but something wasn't quite right about it. The kid leapt into the air with amazing power, managing to travel all the way towards the robot's head and smashed it's face in with a single punch. Then, the boy fell.
"Wait." Daisuke whispered to himself, his body starting to panic as he just watched the kid fall, growing closer and closer towards the ground.
They wouldn't let someone die in the exam, would they? Had someone ever died in the UA exams before? He couldn't be sure but suddenly, he started to doubt the safety of these exams. He couldn't just watch a kid die here, could he?
His stiff body allowed him to take one step forward, then another. The kid was still falling, but what could Daisuke do? His mind went blank as he just stared. A tug at his sleeve pulled his gaze away for only a moment and he saw a girl laying on her side. He looked hurt, but her eyes were pleading.
"Can you get me up there?!" She was panting hard as she pointed towards the kid. "You can fly with your fire, right? Please! Get me close to him!" Again she pointed up.
Daisuke hesitated for only a moment before reaching down to pick up the girl. He settled her onto his back and took in a deep breath as he used his fire to push them up again. It was an awkward angle and he could hear her hiss in pain at the few flames that reached her skin, but he could apologize for that once this kid wasn't dead.
They flew into the sky and as they got closer and closer to the boy, Daisuke could see that his entire arm was dark with bruises and twisted weird. His leg were too. Daisuke didn't have the time to cringe from the sight. Instead, he leaned forward and tried to get the girl's outstretched hand to the boy's shoulder. Once she touched him, he stopped falling and just floated there. She let out a sigh next to Daisuke's ear and they started going down again, much slower than that kid had.
Once they reached the ground, he let her off of his shoulders and they waited as the mangled boy slowly lowered. He wasn't sure what this girl's quirk was, but it was perfect for this situation. He wondered for a moment if she'd make it into the hero school. She could be really good for search and rescue missions.
The boy came into Daisuke's reaching point and he let the boy float into his outstretched arms. The girl let her fingertips touch and then the boy fell to with gravity again. Now, Daisuke could really see how badly injured he was. His knees were angled backward, his arm purple and broken. The sight made him feel sick, but he held back the nausea as an older woman came rushing towards them.
The exchange of handing the boy over didn't take long but the entire situation made Daisuke feel faint. That...that was too close. If he wasn't here, would that girl have made it to him in time? Would that kid have even survived? No one else was even around to help at the time.
Daisuke took the time to sit down and let out a heavy breath. His point count was long forgotten, but it didn't matter so much. He had just saved someone's life. Was this was it felt like to be a hero? This adrenaline rush and the heavy beating of his heart? Part of him never wanted to feel that awe and terror again, but the other half...the other half was sure that this was what he wanted to do. What he wanted to be. He wanted to save more people and feel this same gratitude after every mission. He wanted to help people, just like so many others he knew personally.
Maybe then, his mother would see him for who he was instead of the monster she feared.
Author's Notes: I don't typically write full storied for people's OCs, but this kid really spoke to me. He's really interesting and I like seeing how he can change the original story of My Hero. I won't go into full depth for every single episode, but I will high light each arch as best I can. It might be slow going and the chapters may be shorter, but I promise I'll get them out. Also, all credit for this character goes to sketchywolf, who asked me to write this!
