A/N: This takes place in the future of Skylands.

The Magical Bonds Of A Family

Bree smiled as Rachel stood up, looking at all the Portal Masters who were also the council of Skylands. "My friends, first off, well done on stopping Cassandra and Kaos," she said, smiling. "I will admit, I was a tad worried when I saw that they had found the Power Duplicator."

"Only trouble was, they didn't read the instructions," said one of the female Portal Masters. "Only one person at a time can use it."

"And they tried to use it on us and our partners," said a male Portal Master. "Their plan fell flat before they even could start it."

"Nothing we couldn't handle this time," said another female Portal Master. "And we'll keep dealing with that creep as long as we stand."

Bree nodded. "We'll keep proving that he can't succeed," she said.

"Yes," Rachel said, smiling again. "Now, I'm sure you're all eager to go be with your families as this mission took longer than we thought it would, so I'm granting you all a week off to spend time with your loved ones."

The doors fell open then and they all looked up to see some of the children were there, having been listening in on the conversation. One of the male Portal Masters chuckled. "I think the kids are becoming too much like us," he said as the children stood up, looking sheepish.

One of the female Portal Masters chuckled too. "Eager to follow in their parents' footsteps," she said.

Rachel smiled as her two children came up to her and hugged her, to which she hugged them back. "I think the children came in at the right time," she said. "Can't blame them for wanting to see their parents after a mission."

"Finally, they're back," a voice said with playful exasperation and they all looked to see it was Swarm, who smiled at them all.

"They can take their kids back," said another voice, also in playful exasperation as Spy Rise came in, holding a baby sphinx in his arms.

Bree smiled. "You say that while holding my baby protectively," she said teasingly.

"Hey, just because I want you to take your kid back doesn't mean I'll stop being protective of him," the detective teased back with a smile as he tickled Icarus' stomach with one hand, making the small sphinx laugh and try to grab the hand with his tail, but it wasn't long enough to.

Rachel chuckled in amusement as she picked up her two children, the golden glow of her telekinesis making her gold robes sparkle even more. "Oh, Bree," she said. "Before I forget, while you were on that mission, I got a call from a Miss Toriel and Mr. Asgore. They said you knew them?"

The Sorceress Sensei smiled. "My parents," she said before sighing happily. "I haven't seen them since mine and Mysticat's marriage."

The guardian of Skylands nodded gently. "I'm sorry, Bree," she said. "I should have made sure you had time off to go see them, especially when the twins had been born."

"It's okay," Bree said, smiling. "We were protecting Skylands and still are. Still...," she paused. "Would you be okay with me going to go see my folks? I want them to meet the children."

"You don't have to ask permission to go see your folks, hon," Rachel said with a smile. "But yes. I'm okay with it. In fact, as a good friend, I insist you take this week off you have and go visit them."

The Sorceress Sensei smiled. "Thank you," she said, accepting her youngest son from Spy Rise, who smiled at her.

"Go on," he said. "Your folks will be surprised and happy to know they have grandchildren."

Athena and Apollo came up to her, having caught that last sentence from their uncle. "We're going to meet Grandma and Grandpa?" Athena asked, her eyes bright.

"Really?" Apollo asked excitedly.

Bree smiled. "They haven't met you yet and now that we have time, yes, we'll be going to go see your grandparents," she said.

The twins cheered. They had been hearing stories of the mother's parents for a long time and now to finally get to meet them was awesome. They knew what they looked like, having seen pictures of them and Bree felt a bit guilty that she hadn't sent any pictures to her folks, but she had plenty of pictures from when the children were born up to now that she knew her folks would love.

Mysticat came up to her and smiled. "Welcome back, my treasure," he said, placing an arm around her waist, being mindful of Icarus, and kissing her on the mouth. She smiled and returned the chaste kiss.

"Hey, hon," she said.

He smiled and looked at the twins, who were still jumping up and down. "Let me guess, we're going to take them to see your folks," he said, smiling still.

"Yeah," she said. "With everything that had happened, we haven't had a chance to visit them."

"Then we'll do so now," he said. "Rachel gave you all a week off. A little magic and we'll be at your folks' place in no time."

Bree smiled, thinking back on her parents. Asgore had taken her in when she was a baby and raised her as his daughter. A few years after he had taken her in, he and Toriel had reconciled and remarried, which had made the little girl happy to have a mother again after her other mother had died of cancer when she was little.

Moments later, they were ready to go and Rachel smiled as she opened a portal to Bree's parents' house. "Have fun," she said. "And don't worry. I'll personally make sure Kaos doesn't try anything."

Mysticat smiled as the twins were sitting on his back and the youngest child was in Bree's arms. "We will," he said before they stepped into the portal. They came to a nice two-story house and found a large goat person working in the garden. Bree's eyes lit up at seeing him.

"Hi, Dad," she said.

Asgore froze for a moment before turning to see Bree was behind him. "My little buttercup!" He said, walking towards them with open arms.

The Sorceress Sensei smiled as she hugged him. "Oh, Daddy, I'm sorry it's been so long," she said.

"Oh, honey, it's okay," he soothed. "We've been very busy and now we finally have some time to visit."

She smiled at him as Toriel came out and gasped. "My child!" She said in happiness, running up to her.

Bree smiled and hugged the goat woman. "Hi, Mom," she said.

"Oh, sweetie, look at you," Toriel cooed before seeing Mysticat. "Mysticat, I trust you are taking good care of my daughter?"

"Yes, ma'am," the Sensei said with a smile. "And greetings to you both, Your Majesties."

"Please, Mysticat, you can call us Asgore and Toriel," Asgore told him.

Toriel then noticed the three children and she gasped, noting how they looked and she put two and two together. "Are these little ones...our grandchildren?" She asked.

Athena and Apollo looked up at the two unsurely while Icarus clung to his mother a bit more. Bree smiled. "It's okay, kids," she said. "These are your Grandma Toriel and Grandpa Asgore. They're Mommy's parents."

Athena was the first to move, sliding off of her father's back before slowly approaching the two, looking a bit worried. Asgore smiled and kneeled down to the child's height. "Hello, little one," he said, his voice comforting. "What is your name?"

She smiled, liking his voice. "I'm Athena," she said. "I'm four years old."

"Athena. That's a lovely name," he said.

The child smiled at him as Apollo got off of his father's back, looking at his parents, who nodded encouragingly before the little one walked up to Toriel, who smiled warmly. "Hello, little one," she said, kneeling down to his height. "What is your name?"

"Apollo," he said. "Athena and I are twins."

"Ah, I thought you two might be," the goat woman said with a chuckle. "You both look so much like your mother and father."

The twins seemed to stand taller with pride at that and Icarus, seeing his siblings were getting all the attention, began whimpering, wanting some attention too.

Mysticat chuckled. "I think someone wants to meet his grandparents," he said.

"That he does," Bree said before they both moved closer. "And this is Icarus, our youngest at three months old."

"Oh, he's so precious," Toriel cooed. "May I hold him, my child?"

"Of course, Mom," the young woman said, handing her youngest child to the goat woman.

Icarus looked up at her curiously as Toriel cooed at him. "Oh, he's just as cute as the twins," he said.

Asgore smiled. "Never thought I'd have grandchildren someday," he said softly.

Bree smiled, hugging her father. "You took good care of me, Dad, and you're a great father, so I knew you would make an awesome grandfather."

"She's right, Gory," Toriel said, smiling gently.

Athena and Apollo stood by Asgore, looking up at him curiously before he looked down at them and smiled, leaning down and scooping them both up into his arms. Surprised at his gentle strength, the twins giggled before being in awe as the king stood to his full height.

Mysticat smiled and wrapped an arm around his wife. "Look, my treasure," he said, gesturing to the kids and his in-laws.

Wisps of magic gently surrounded the two goat monsters and their three grandchildren and Bree looked at the wisps of magic before smiling at seeing what they were. "Magical bonds," she said softly.

"The magical bonds of a family," he clarified, kissing her cheek. "I think the kids are going to bug us to visit your parents more and honestly, we really should."

"You're right," she said. "Hopefully Rachel will be okay with us asking for time to do that."

"You know she will," he said. "She's big on family, just like us."

Bree nodded as Toriel invited them all to stay for lunch and was excited to learn that her daughter and son-in-law were hoping to stay with them for a week. Asgore was happy to hear that and readily agreed. "We have rooms all ready for you all," he said with a smile.

Mysticat smiled. "Rachel, our friend and guardian of Skylands, gave us all a week off after our last mission and she actually insisted that we visit you guys after she said she got a call from you all," he said.

Toriel had the grace to blush. "Sorry, dear, just me being a mother hen," she said.

Bree smiled. "Oh, Mom," she said with a chuckle, showing that she didn't mind.

The twins were ecstatic to learn they'd be spending a week with their grandparents and Icarus snuggled against Toriel, purring happily and making the goat woman gush at his cuteness.

Back in Skylands, Rachel smiled as she watched Bree and her family through a portal before nodding and closing the portal, going to a throne against the wall and sitting down on it, closing her eyes and enjoying the peace and quiet that filled Skylands. "Hopefully that little shrimp will be quiet this week," she said to herself.

As she stood up, arms encircled her waist and she smiled, turning to see her husband, Manga Charge, behind her. "Come, my lovely proton," he said to her. "You deserve a break too."

She smiled and nodded as he led her away while she checked on Bree and her family one more time, smiling as she saw the magical bonds of the family becoming very strong, stronger than anything in the universe.
