Dreaming

How much of it was real?

That was what Link wondered as he tied together some pieces of his boat to make a raft. He didn't know how much of his adventure in Koholint really counted. What if he'd just imagined all of it?

Well, the Wind Fish was real, so Link figured he hadn't made all of it up, at least. That had been a relief at first, when he saw the Wind Fish flying by. But even then, he'd never really see any of those people ever again. Not in real life. Even if he remembered all of them, what did that really change? It wouldn't bring them back in the real world.

Link glanced up, trying to distract himself from his thoughts. There were some seagulls flying around nearby. He wondered if they were going anywhere, or if that meant he was close by some land. Maybe he wouldn't have to paddle the raft too far after all.

Seagulls... Marin wanted to be a seagull, didn't she? This wasn't helping at all. It just made Link remember the dream even more.

Then, one of them swooped down, and Link raised an arm in front of his face. But it didn't attack him. It just landed on the raft and squawked up at him, looking at him and blinking. Then, it rubbed its head against him in an almost friendly way.

"...Marin?"

Link didn't want to believe it was true at first, despite everything. He was probably just getting his hopes up. What if he was only projecting?

But then the seagull squawked again and bumped into him one more time. Maybe it really was her. Maybe she'd escaped from the dream after all.

He smiled. "Let's go, Marin."

Link didn't know how long she'd stay, but he'd at least have some company until he found land, and that made him feel better.
