Author's Note: So the month of March was very difficult for me when it came to writing. I've not been able to find any energy or inspiration to do anything, until the idea of dragon Yang and knight Jaune came up on my Discord server. So I just wrote this since it was the only thing that was coming to me when I was struggling with everything else. And seeing how it's April 1st, I hope people won't mind this as just an April Fools story.

Jaune of House Arc was not the strongest knight in the kingdom. He was not the best equipped, nor the best trained. Not the wealthiest. Not the smartest. Not the most successful by any stretch of the imagination.

What he was, however, was the most driven. For jealousy and envy were perhaps the strongest motivators a man could possess.

Jaune had looked on as the town celebrated the achievements of his betters. Cardin of House Winchester had slain a tribe of troublesome goblins. Sky of House Lark had saved a village from a rampaging minotaur. Why not him? Why couldn't he do something brave and heroic? Why was he always an onlooker while one of his fellow knights returned home after accomplishing some great deed or discovering a massive trove of treasure?

No longer would he stand on the sidelines. No longer would he be a mere observer. Today was the day Jaune would live up to his family name. The Arcs were renowned heroes in the kingdom of Vale. His father was. And his father before him. Back the lineage went to his great grandfather, whose sword the young man wielded today. He would use that sword in order to put an end to a great beast who had long terrorized the countryside. After today he would no longer merely be Jaune Arc. He would be Jaune the Dragon Slayer.

A mighty Sun Dragon named Taiyang had long pillaged the land, stealing cattle, goats, mules, and whatever it could find, snatching them from the land itself and carrying them back to his lair to devour them. The farmers had begged with the nobility to put an end to the flying menace, but thus far none had stepped forward to face the enormous terror. Until today.

Jaune stood at the mouth of the cave, a shaky hand gripping the handle of his ancestral sword. It was dusk, and the great creature would probably be slow and sluggish after stuffing itself with food. With any luck Jaune would catch it asleep and be able to end its life with one swift stab through the skull.

Steeling himself for what was to come, Jaune stepped forth into the beast's lair ready to do what had to be done.

Yang Xiao Long was not the strongest dragon in the land. Leave that title to her dad. She wasn't the most experienced, having never killed a beast, much less a human, in her life. What she was, however, was the funniest, coolest, and if she were being honest with herself, laziest dragon in the family. But hey, when your dad gave you all the food you could eat and all the gold you could hoard, who wouldn't find themselves getting a little lazy?

The dragon, or more accurately, the humanoid girl stretched lazily across a pile of gold coins which filled up half of the cave that made their lair. The great thing about being a magical dragon was that you could assume a human form whenever you wanted to. Not only did it save space when you were relaxing in your lair, but it allowed you to wear these super cool clothes. A dragon in a dress? How absurd! But a human in a dress? That was style. Yang liked human clothes. She especially liked what she wore now.

The fabric of the dress was white, but none of that shown due to the entire thing being covered in thousands of scales made of pure gold. Come to think of it, it was almost more like a suit of flexible and glimmering golden armor than a dress, but who would stress the details? Certainly not her. All she knew was that it looked absolutely fantastic and it was worth a fortune. Totally fitting for the eldest daughter of the great Sun Dragon.

Yang rolled over onto her back, a smile on her face and her eyes closed as she felt around for the goblet of fine wine which sat near her bed of coins. She felt nothing, and with an annoyed groan opened up lilac eyes, the hue of which would be the envy of all the kings of Remnant. However, instead of finding her drinks, the dragon girl instead saw…

"Ah!" she yelped, scrambling to her feet, and instead kicking coins everywhere as her legs thrashed for purchase atop the pile of treasure.

The noise was deafening as gold and other treasures were scattered about the lair. However she couldn't care less about the mess she was making. Right now the only concern she had was the very tall, very armed, and very scary looking knight who stood in the mouth of her lair. The only entrance. The only escape.

"Who are you?" she demanded, finally able to stand on her feet.

The knight's hand was on his sword's handle, ready to be drawn at a moment's notice. Ready to kill a young, inexperienced dragon such as herself! Where was dad when you needed him?

"My name is Jaune Arc," the young man, barely a man, said. He steadied his fingers, gripping the blue leather hilt of his sword tightly. "And I've come to, um, slay you, Taiyang Xiao Long!"

Slay Taiyang? Talk about a case of mistaken identity! Not that the fact that he'd come for her dad make things any better, but she most definitely was not her dad!

Yang put her hands up in front of her chest and shook her head wildly. "Whoa, whoa whoa, wait a minute," she protested. "I'm not Taiyang!"

Jaune squinted and tilted his head in confusion. "You're not?"

"No. I'm his daughter Yang." The girl winced clenching her jaw as she realized what she'd done. Like it would make a difference to this knight that she wasn't her dad. A dragon was still a dragon to this human, after all.

"Oh. Really?" he asked.

"Really," she confirmed.

"But… you look human," he pointed out.

"Well yeah, dragons can do that," she explained. "At least some of them can. I like to take this form when I'm home."

"Huh. Well, that's interesting."

Was it? Yang had no idea, but the fact that Jaune's hand remained on his sword concerned her. He'd come to slay a dragon, and she was a dragon standing right in front of him. She knew that her life depended on what came next. It was a shame that she wasn't a very good dragon, otherwise a single human knight wouldn't have been a big deal for her at all.

Summoning all of the power from within her, Yang Xiao Long, the daughter of the mightiest Sun Dragon in all the land, spewed forth a stream of flame which could sear flesh and melt steel.

Or at least that's what she would have liked to do. All Yang was able to muster was a small plume of fire from her lips with as much force as a belch after a tasty meal.

"See that?" she asked, desperately hoping that her bluff would not be called. "Stay back, knight. That's only a small taste of what I can do, and you look like you'll roast really well in that breastplate of yours."

In reality the small amount of fire was the most she could summon. She had been trying to spew out a huge blast of fire there to incinerate the knight, but she wasn't exactly the most experienced of fire breathers. It was enough to roast dinner, but not to take out an armored and trained knight like Jaune Arc was. Ugh, she really needed to get out more and live a little. Adventure, excitement, that sort of thing. If she made it out of this alive she was determined to do some growing and training.

Yang took a deep breath as she awaited her adversary's next move.

Oh man this was bad. This was so bad. What had he been thinking? Why had he come here?

The sight of what appeared to be a beautiful young woman, but in reality was a fire-breathing Sun Dragon had petrified him to the core. And that fire she'd just breathed? Only a taste of what she had to offer! Bad bad bad! This was so bad!

His hand was stuck on his sword, and he was too scared to even unsheathe it. This was over before it even began, and he wasn't even going to die at the claws and teeth of the dragon he'd come for. No, instead it would be this very pretty lady-dragon clad in a shimmering dress of gold! Why couldn't he have just started with some sort of easy quest like escorting a wagon or finding plants and herbs for medicine? Why did he have to try and be cool and choose to go up against a freakin' dragon!

"Draw your pathetic blade so I can end this, Jaune," Yang demanded. No, taunted. She knew this battle was already over, and must have known that he could barely even summon the courage to move, much less draw his sword. She knew his hand was as good as stuck on Crocea Mors' handle.

Jaune bit down on his lip. There had to be a way out of this without violence. Growing up with seven sisters, he knew a good thing or two about bluffing. Maybe, just maybe, if he could convince Yang that this fight was too dangerous for her to risk then she'd back off…

"Oh I will," he said with as much confidence as he could muster. "In fact, this is the very same sword that cleaved the head straight off the Murderous Manticore of Mountain Glenn!"

Technically it wasn't a lie. Long ago his great grandfather Azure Arc had indeed slain the beast known as the Murderous Manticore of Mountain Glenn. It was a story passed down the Arc line for generations, and growing up on it was just one of the many reasons Jaune had decided that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors and become a heroic knight just like them.

"O-oh," Yang said, seemingly taken aback by this new knowledge. Had it worked? "Really?"

"That's right," he pressed. "A mighty beast, so fell and dread. Arc raised his sword, and clove its head!"

Yang had no idea that Jaune was merely reciting verses from a song which the bards had sung of his great grandfather's heroic deed. All that mattered was that she seemed to be buying it. The little Sun Dragon's body language had noticeably changed, from her widened eyes to her slumped shoulders. Maybe, just maybe, he would be able to get out of here alive.

"Well I'm not impressed," she stated, confidence seemingly returning to her as the dragon girl stood straighter and puffed out her chest. "A manticore is nothing compared to a dragon. I would impale it on a stake and roast it for dinner. Your blade may have been able to cut through a weak and pathetic monster such as it, but that weak steel would shatter on my scales. Do you not know that Sun Dragons have scales tempered by the very sun itself?"

He didn't know that. Immediately Jaune found himself once more on his back foot. It was true that a manticore was no dragon, and his ancestors had certainly never taken on any Sun Dragons. All it would take was one blast of fire, one swipe of her claws, one snap of her jaws, and he would be done for.

Taking a deep breath, Jaune took a step forward. Now wasn't the time to show fear. Besides, what did he have to lose? He had to keep it up. He had to convince Yang that this wasn't a battle worth risking.

"Have you ever heard of a Jabberslythe?" he asked the girl.

Yang squinted in confusion. "Uh… no? Should I have?"

Bingo. "Hah, of course you haven't. And you know why?"

"Why?"

"Because I killed it." Never mind the fact that there was no such thing as a Jabberslythe. It was merely a fairy tale passed down his family. A story of brave knights and fearsome monsters to tell at bedtime. This one in particular resembled some grotesque mixture of a dragon and a toad. "Thanks to me there's no more Jabberslythes in the world. And pretty soon there'll be no more Sun Dragons."

If looks could kill, Yang's would have burned him alive. He was sure that wasn't very far from the truth, should she finally decide to unleash her wrath on him. She too took a step forward, closing the distance between the two even further.

"Well I'll have you know that this isn't even my final form," she boasted. "You think that I, a mighty Sun Dragon, am limited to a soft and weak human body?" She threw her head back and laughed. "Absolutely not. My true form is so big and powerful that you would be crushed under my weight."

Jaune didn't want to see that. He absolutely didn't. No, he quite liked looking at this form that the dragon took. Not only was it not as big as a house and covered in scales as hard as diamonds and claws as sharp as daggers, but it was honestly quite pleasing to look at. Had he not known this girl was a dragon he would have thought she was just an incredibly beautiful girl around his age.

He had to say something to convince the dragon not to change into her true form. He had seven sisters. Think, Jaune! Think! What could he say to a girl in a time like this?

"You know you're actually pretty cute for a dragon," he wound up blurting out.

Lilac eyes widened. Gone was all the poise and confidence she'd built up in order to try and bluff her way out of this mess. Like a rain puddle in the sun it had evaporated, leaving in its stead a scared and shaky girl who didn't quite know how to take a compliment like that from a boy with a hand on his sword and only a few steps away from her.

"W-what?" she asked incredulously. "Why are you saying that at a time like this? Who even says such a thing to someone they're about to kill?"

The candidness of her question seemed to take Jaune aback. "What?" he asked, appearing just as shocked as she was. "You really think I'm about to kill you?"

In an instant Yang realized she'd made a mistake. In this game it wouldn't do to show weakness. She had to appear brave and strong enough to scare off the knight. If he knew that he could slay her without breaking a sweat this would be over in a heartbeat.

Yang put on the bravest face she could muster, and her hands came to rest on her hips in a show of arrogance. "Haha!" she laughed. "Of course not! Foolish human, do you really think you have the strength to defeat the oldest daughter of Taiyang the Great Sun Dragon on your own?"

Jaune mimicked her actions, and his hand finally came off the hilt of his sword so that they too could rest on his hips. "Of course I do!" he boasted. "I would be a pretty sorry excuse for a knight if I was terrified right now and just buying time hoping to figure out a way to get out of here."

Get out of here? Yang thought. What kind of a fool does he take me for? He wants to chop off my head with that big sword of his. Two can play at that game. Maybe it'll even get him off his game and give me a fighting chance…

"Oh yeah?" she countered. "Well you're pretty handsome for a knight. I thought all knights were old and gross with beards and scars all over their faces, but not you!"

Jaune seemed to… blush? Had it worked? He definitely didn't seem as scary anymore now that he was struggling to hold back a smile. It was almost adorable how this boy clad in steel and leather seemed to melt under her compliment. He wasn't so scary when he wasn't threatening to kill her.

"I… well… I'm only seventeen so the beard thing is kinda hard," he admitted. "And being a natural blond doesn't help either."

"You're seventeen? Really? Me too! And I'm a natural blonde too!"

"It looks nice," he seemed to say earnestly. "I have seven sisters, all blondes, so I'm kind of an authority on good looking blonde hair. You could totally pass for one of them. Maybe even a princess."

Yang's draconic heart skipped a beat. Her? A princess? Usually her kind kidnapped princesses and battled against brave knights who came to rescue them. But comparing her to a princess? The kinds of ladies immortalized in poems and songs? That made her already heated body burn all the more under that kind of praise.

She shook her head. No! This couldn't and wouldn't happen. She was a dragon and he was a knight. This battle would end only one way, and she wasn't about to let Jaune throw her off with his compliments and comparisons to sisters and princesses.

Taking another step forward, Yang's nose scrunched up as she all but snarled her next threat to her opponent. "Enough about that! Soon I'll have you at my mercy and I'll be able to do anything I want with you!" To emphasize the point she ran her tongue around her lips, hoping to convey that she was about to gobble up the pitiful little human with her powerful dragon jaws.

"M-mercy?" Jaune asked, eyes darting back and forth nervously. "What do you mean? What kinds of things?"

"I don't know," she admitted, confidence evading her again as her own inexperience came to the forefront of the conversation. "You're the first human who's ever come to my lair, so I don't know what I should do with one. But just know that it could be anything I want!"

Blue eyes focused on her face. More specifically, the lips she'd just licked. "Like kissing and stuff?"

Yang's eyes went wide. "K-kissing?" she stuttered in surprise. "What? Why would you wonder if I would kiss you?"

Jaune's hands came up in front of himself defensively. "I don't know! You said anything and it was just the first thing that came to mind."

"You really think that I would kiss you? Me, a dragon? Kiss a knight like you?"

"I don't know! You were licking your lips and stuff, and usually people want their lips to be wet before they kiss!"

Was that true? Yang wasn't familiar much with human customs. She definitely didn't know about human kissing either! It's not like she'd kissed a human before. She hadn't even kissed another dragon before. Not that there were many dragons around here other than her family, but that was besides the point. Still, Jaune seemed to know a lot about kissing…

"Oh have you kissed a lot of girls then?" she wondered idly. "Is the brave knight going around kissing all the princesses? Is that how you know so much about kissing, Jaune?"

The boy winced under the bombardment of accusatory questions. "I mean, not exactly," he admitted gloomily. "Princess Weiss doesn't exactly like me like that. I'd be lucky if I ever got to kiss the fairest maiden in all the kingdoms…"

Yang didn't know why, but hearing the praises of another female, even if it was a human female, made her feel jealous. What did this Princess Weiss have that she didn't? Besides a castle. And fine clothes. Handmaidens. An army of loyal soldiers. Knightly admirers like Jaune here…

"Your Princess Weiss is nothing compared to me," Yang boasted. "I would devour her in one bite. And then what would you be left with, Jaune? Who would be left to kiss? No one! You would have to kiss me in order to get a taste of your precious princess! And I don't think you're brave enough to put your face near the jaws of a mighty Sun Dragon! At least not until I eat you, which I'm just about to do!"

If he was brave enough, and if her bluff was called, it would be over. The two stood mere feet apart from each other now, and this would be their final showdown. If Jaune pulled out his sword and plunged it through her heart, then Yang was done for. However if she had succeeded in intimidating him enough to run away, she would live to fight another day.

Jaune stood still as a statue, however, and showed no signs of moving. What a truly brave and valiant knight he was to stare down a Sun Dragon such as herself without even the thought of backing down. This boy was an exemplar of chivalry and honor, the epitome of a true knight. If she had to go by anyone's hands, she was glad it was his.

The knight took another step forward, closing the gap between them so that she could feel his breath on his fiery skin. Yang closed her eyes and waited for the inevitable to come.

Well, this looked like the end of him. He had stepped into a dragon's lair, and now would face the consequences. However, if he was going to go out, he would go out like a hero. Like a man. A man who had at least gotten to kiss a girl once before meeting his fate.

Standing mere inches away from the dragon who showed no fear in his approach, so much so that she even closed her eyes as if daring him to strike her down, Jaune reached out to take the girl by the waist. The golden scales of her dress were warm to the touch, and had she not been a terrifying dragon in the skin of a human girl, it might have even been pleasant to feel the hips beneath the scales. A warm final moment before she devoured him and scattered his bones among the piles of treasure she had been lounging on previously.

Tilting his head ever so slightly, Jaune pushed his hesitant head forward until his lips met hers.

The knight kissed the dragon.

Yang's flesh was impossibly hot. It took only a matter of seconds before her lips began searing his own, and soon enough he was forced away not from her own struggles or rejection, but by the sheer heat she was passively emitting. It was probably for the best, as the act had left the young man breathless by the time he pulled back to stare into newly opened lilac eyes. He was restrained from going back more than a few inches, finding her arms locked around his back and preventing him from putting distance between them once more.

The dragon stared up into his eyes, lips parted in shock. "You kissed me…"

Jaune nodded hastily. He had indeed done that. However… "You kissed me back."

He saw how her jaw moved, almost like a peek into her mind to see her thoughts in motion. "I didn't mean to," she protested. "I was just lost in the moment."

"We had a moment?" he wondered honestly.

Yang shrugged. Her eyes darted off to the side. "I don't know. Maybe."

"So was it… good?"

She shrugged once more. It was followed by a weak nod of her head. "I mean… it wasn't bad. I might have been kinda good…"

Jaune bit down on his lip. It still stung a bit from the heat of her own. The taste of her lips still lingered. She had been eating or drinking something prior to his arrival.

"Yeah," he agreed. "I gotta admit, it was pretty nice. No better way to go than after a kiss like that."

He saw how she sucked in a breath. Probably just preparing herself for the moment she would transform and literally bite his head off. "So that's it then. It's time."

Jaune swallowed hard. "I guess there's nothing left to do but finish this, right?"

"Yeah. Nothing left…"

All things considered, Yang had lived a life of luxury and indulgence. Fine silks and ornate rugs from Mistral decorated the lair. Sweet perfumes and rare spices from Vacuo were delights to her senses. The wealth her dad had gathered over his own long life was the envy of kings from all over Remnant. They had been there all her life to enjoy.

Now that it was her time to go, slain by this valiant knight as so many other dragons had been throughout history, she had few regrets. She'd even gotten to kiss a boy before she met her end. It had prolonged the inevitable just a few seconds longer, at the very least. It had felt pretty nice too.

But what if… what if she was able to kiss him again in order to buy more precious time to maybe think of a way out of this?

"Hey, um, Jaune?" she asked the knight standing before her.

"Yeah?"

Taking the initiative this time, Yang leaned up toward him on the tips of her toes and pressed her lips against his. Taking him by surprise this time she led the kiss this time, squeezing her arms around his back tighter in order to press his armored chest against hers. Hot breaths shot through her nose and tiny moans hummed in the back of her throat as she took him with even more passion this time.

Eventually, as before, Jaune practically had to shove her off of him in order to break the kiss. He was left gasping for air and desperately running his tongue across his lips.

"Wow," he whispered. "You're really hot."

Yang felt a stab in her heart, but not the bad kind. The kind when a guy complimented you and you knew it was genuine. "You really think so?"

"Seriously," he insisted. "Your whole body is scorching."

Yang let go of him and stepped back, wrapping her arms around her golden dress and swayed back and forth gently. "I can't believe you're so bold. I don't think a human has ever told a dragon how beautiful they are before…"

Blue eyes went suddenly wide, and Jaune began to shake his head quickly. "No, no, I mean, like, your temperature," he clarified. And not in a way which made her feel even warmer inside than she already was. "It's really, really hot. I'm burning myself when I kiss you."

Her face fell. "Oh."

Of course a human wouldn't find one of her kind attractive. Humans and dragons were like oil and water. They killed each other over anything and everything. Territory. Food. Wealth. Why would a knight who was here to kill her see anything but a repulsive monster in need of slaying?

"It's… Sun Dragon physiology I guess," she explained. "Since we breathe fire and all, we're really hot inside."

"And outside…"

And just like that the fire in her belly turned to ice. At least for a split second. "What?"

"Look you're really beautiful, okay?" he practically squeaked. Hardly fitting for the brave and valiant knight that he was. "I'm just glad I got to kiss someone like you before… before…"

Yang nodded. Before he killed her. But it didn't have to be that way…

"Jaune."

"Yeah?"

If he thought that she was beautiful then maybe, just maybe, he would see something in her worth sparing. A reason not to kill her. Someone worth saving like one of those stupid human princesses.

Her eyes fell to the ground. "What if we didn't do this?" she asked. Lilac eyes flicked back up to meet his as she continued. "What if we just went our separate ways?"

Could this be real? Could this really be happening? Was this dragon, this fearsome dragon who had boasted about killing him and even Princess Weiss, be serious about just… letting him go?

Was it a trick? Maybe. However, if it wasn't, there was no harm in entertaining the offer. If Yang was lying then he would still be a dead man either way.

"You'd… you'd do that for me?" he asked.

She nodded softly. "I mean, if you want to…"

He couldn't believe his luck. Was she really going to let him escape after he'd invaded her lair?

Jaune nodded hurriedly. "Yeah, that sounds like a plan." He took a step back. "For what it's worth, I'm really sorry for coming here with the intention of… you know…"

He may not have been the sharpest sword in the armory, but even Jaune knew that bringing up that K word probably wasn't the best idea when Yang seemed content with letting him walk out alive.

Yang nodded and waved off his concern with a quick flick of her wrist. "Oh, um, don't sweat it!" she smiled. It was a pretty smile too. As pretty as any of the princesses he'd even seen. "Water under the bridge. Just… just don't do it again, human!" she growled, though this one seemed friendlier than the others. However just to emphasize the point, she blew another small puff of flame from her lips. "Or else!"

The lips he'd just kissed not once, but twice. No wonder they were so hot.

"Right!" he agreed all too readily. "I read you loud and clear. No more coming to your lair. So I'll just, um, get going…"

Jaune backed away slowly, careful not to turn his back to her lest he fall for some sort of very long and cruel trick. However it seemed as if Yang had every intention of honoring her word. She really was going to let him walk out of here alive.

As he backed away he tripped and nearly fell on something. At first he thought it might have been a rock, or maybe even an old human skull, however as he looked down he found the largest ruby he'd ever seen in his life. Not that he'd seen many but this one was easily the size of his fist.

Maybe he really was a fool. Or maybe he was just this desperate. Whatever the reason, his stupid brain decided to ask one more question of the dragon who was for some reason showing mercy on him.

"Hey, could I ask you a favor?"

He saw how Yang sucked in another breath through her mouth. Hopefully not to gather the oxygen needed to spew forth a storm of fire in his direction.

Thankfully she merely answered his words with words of her own. "Do you want to kiss me again?"

They were the last words he'd been expecting. "What? No!"

She glanced down at the ground, seemingly dejected. "Oh."

Why did he suddenly feel guilty for what appeared to be a dragon's hurt feelings? "Wait, don't get me wrong," he insisted, his hands coming up before his chest in a show of submission. "I mean it was really nice and felt really good and stuff."

Very human and very beautiful eyes met his again. "Really?"

"Really really," he confirmed. "But that wasn't the favor I had in mind. I had something, uh, more in mind…"

"You want… more?" she asked. Jaune nodded, and he saw her eyes go wide. "I see. I suppose I should have expected something like this in return for leaving and letting me…" she trailed off before she could finish her thought.

Jaune saw her arms reach behind her back, and he reached down to pick up the immense ruby at his feet. "Could I take this jewel home with me?" he asked.

Her hands froze behind her back. She stared at him, blinking several times before speaking. "What?"

"I just really need to show the people from my town that I succeeded on my quest," he explained. "If I bring back a treasure I won't be the laughing stock of all the other knights anymore."

Yang's arms fell back down to her sides. "A jewel? That's all?"

"That's all. I promise I'll bring it back soon. Just a few days."

"Really?" she asked hopefully. "You'll come back and see me?"

"To return the jewel, yeah," he confirmed. "Not to invade your lair or anything. I could even just leave it outside so I don't intrude again."

"No!" she practically shouted, making Jaune leap in surprise. Yang quickly cleared her throat and smoothed out the golden scales of her dress. "I mean, no other reason than that, right?"

"Uh…" he said, scratching his thick blond hair in thought. "Right. I definitely don't want to come back to fight the girl who gave me my first kiss." Hands shot up to his mouth to cover it, lest he say anything more to embarrass himself.

"Yours too?" Yang gasped.

Jaune blinked. "So yours too…"

"Yeah…"

"Oh…"

Silence settled over the two adversaries. Both nodded, not really knowing what they were nodding for.

Finally Jaune spoke. "That's… wow. I guess we both tried something new here today."

Yang kept nodding. "Yup. Mmhmm."

"So about this jewel…"

To his surprise Yang walked over to him. To his even greater surprise it wasn't to kill him, nor was it to snatch the precious stone from his hands. Rather, her own came up to come around his armored gauntlets, closing his fingers around the giant ruby. She stared up into his eyes as she had when he'd held her close against his body.

"This is a nice one," she spoke softly. "It's the same color as my eyes when I go into a rage."

Jaune swallowed. "A rage?"

"Dragon rage," she clarified. "It's… well, it's a thing."

"Oh." Jaune chuckled nervously. "I guess I just lucked out that I didn't see that today, huh?"

Yang laughed as well. "Haha yes, you certainly are, human. No armor could withstand the flames of a Sun Dragon who's entered a rage."

"Oh. Good to know I guess. Haha, yeah, I guess I did luck out then, didn't I?"

"You certainly did."

"But my shield can… it can withstand heat," he lied. "Because it was enchanted by… a very powerful wizard!"

"Oh," Yang blinked. She nodded before her eyes fell down to the white heater shield with twin golden crescents on it. "Well isn't that something." Her attention came back up to his face. "Now… now go. Hurry and take this ruby before I change my mind."

Jaune smiled and nodded in turn. "Thanks. I'll bring it back as soon as I can."

He took another step back, and Yang's gaze never left his. Eyes narrowed on him as he got further away. Just as he was about to step back into the mouth of the cavern, she shouted at him.

"See that you do!" she insisted. "You'd better be back soon! Or else!"

Jaune understood the threat all too well. If he didn't return the ruby to her soon there would be devastation across the land. The last thing Jaune wanted to do was get on Yang's bad side.

He would return in a few days to return the borrowed treasure. Of that he was certain.

Author's Note: So yeah, just something quick and stupid. But hey, that's how other stories have started before. Last year for April Fools I did that Trifa story, and it became more popular and beloved than I ever could have imagined.

I am trying to work on my ongoing stories, so don't think that I'm just abandoning them to start something new. I'm not. I just need to find the energy to do them. Until I do, hopefully this will be something you can enjoy.

As always, thanks for reading. Let me know what you thought about this silly little idea.
