So I was waiting for my parents to pick me up from school and I was listening to Ocean Eyes by Billie Eilish. This is what happened.

Together once more

A Percabeth fanfiction

He doesn't remember. He doesn't remember her. Somehow… somehow he's forgotten her. He'd never looked at her way he had this morning. Anger, confusion, despise.

"Who are you?" he'd asked, pushing her away.

"Who are you?" She'd snapped back, anger boiling in her gut. Whoever had done this to him… they were going to pay, and dearly. She was ready to storm mount Olympus herself but for the stares and whispers.

"Absolutely crazy… don't know what she's thinking… lost her mind…"

Finally, she confronts Piper, who has been avoiding her the entire day.

"I don't know what's gotten into you," Piper admits. "You're all riled up about a guy rejecting you. Just deal with it."

When Annabeth protests that Percy is her boyfriend and that they've been together for three years and they've been through Tartarus together for the love of the gods, Piper just gives her a confused look and turns away. By now Annabeth is starting to think that it's all a bad dream, that she'll wake up and find herself cuddled with Percy, her Percy, who loves her as she loves him. But she doesn't wake up. The nightmare is neverending, all-consuming. She cries herself to sleep every night, refuses to eat, disappears into the woods for hours or even days at a time, but no one notices. She feels herself becoming weaker, once tanned skin becoming pale. She has bags under her eyes, her hair, once honey-blonde and curling luxuriously, is now matted and greasy. Every time she looks into his sea-green eyes looking back at her without recognition, yet still so alive, she falls deeper into them, drowning, drowning, too weak to fight back, even if she wants to.

No one notices.

She's alone.

So one day, she takes her drakon-bone sword, the one that Damasen gave her, goes out to the canoe lake, the first time since Percy's… change. She places the sword on the dock, gingerly, sadly, then takes off her Camp Half-Blood necklace, the piece of coral Percy had given her. And then she's falling, falling, sinking, embraced by the salty water, a caress to her skin. Once familiar, now alien. She opens her eyes, watches the bubbles escape. Her breath, her life. The water is green. Sea green.

They don't notice. It's only when a camper finds the sword that they realize she's gone. That's when the spell breaks. Percy is inconsolable. His friends try to help, but their grief is nowhere near the pain that he feels. She spends his days sitting at the dock, turning Annabeth's sword over in his hands, staring at the spot where they pulled her body out of the water. The spot where they kissed.

He wishes he could drown.

The next morning, they find his body at the dock, his necklace tied to Annabeth's. They mix their ashes together, scatter them into the ocean.

Perhaps, just perhaps, they will meet in Elysium, and be together once more.

Welp, that was depressing. I guess this is what my brain comes up with when I listen to Billie Eilish.
