Author's Note

I've been contemplating writing something like this for a while. I first watched the Rosario Vampire anime right around a year ago when quarantine first started. After finishing it, I decided to read the manga just out of curiosity. I really enjoyed the story the manga told, far more than that of the anime.

Something about the R+V's unique world and characters stuck out to me, so much so that I decided to make a rewrite with an OC resembling myself as the main character.

I want to make it clear that this isn't exactly a self-insert. Elijah and I have quite a few similarities, particularly in his old life before he got isekaid. However, I feel it necessary to write in some differences to keep this story from becoming petty, wish fulfillment. My personal goal with this story is to create a sort of AU, mapping out how someone similar to me would behave and interact with the other characters in this universe.

I plan to take this story all the way through the plot of the manga's first and second seasons, and then well beyond that. I'm debating breaking this story up into multiple installments,(like keithallen's CAPU series) but I have not decided yet. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

With all of that out of the way, it's finally time to begin. I hope y'all enjoy!

Chapter 1

Elijah Zebulon was living a great life. He lived in a sizable home, with a mother, father and younger brother that all cherished him. His school career was doing just as well. While not standing out too much, he was friends or was at least acquainted with everyone that attended his rural town's local high school. He was on track to graduate at the end of his next semester with plans to attend a community college not fifteen minutes away from his home. Life was going well for Elijah Zebulon; that was, until, cancer struck.

The tumor growing on Elijah's brain was an aggressive and merciless killer. No amount of Chemo and radiation therapy would be able to save the once vibrant and optimistic teen from his fast approaching demise.

Variations of the disease had already claimed several members of his family, and like his grandmother and two uncles before him, Elijah would soon fall. Elijah passed quietly, surrounded by teary-eyed, heartbroken family members and friends. "How unfair" some muttered amongst themselves, "How unfair, that a young man once so full of life, should be robbed of his future in such a way." Unbeknownst to him, Elijah would later look back at that day and laugh. Robbed of his future? No. Elijah's future was just beginning.

Awaking with a gasp and a startled cry, Elijah bolted into an upright position to find himself sitting on the floor of a large, empty room filled with a soft, golden light. Quickly looking to his left and his right, Elijah noticed that the space seemed to go on infinitely with no walls in either direction. Above and below him Elijah observed the same phenomenon. He was sitting on nothing; suspended by a floor he couldn't see, walls he couldn't find, and a roof which must have been so far above his head, that he couldn't see it. To be honest, it was rather unnerving.

Standing up, Elijah began to walk around, in a vain attempt to find anything that would indicate where he was. After what felt like hours of searching, Elijah finally gave up stomping his foot on the decidedly non-existent floor, and shouting with all the force his lungs could muster, "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS PLACE?" To Elijah's surprise, a booming voice gave a reply. "Well hello Mr. Zebulon. I am pleased to see that you are already awake." Elijah whirled around, trying to find the disembodied voice that replied to his cry of desperation. The voice gave an amused chuckle. "Fret not child and turn around. I'm standing behind you." Elijah, more calmly this time, turned around once more searching for the man behind the voice that he somehow missed the first time.

Standing before Elijah was the rather imposing figure of whom Elijah could only assume to be God. He was clothed in a pure white robe accented with gold. His face and body had no blemishes or wrinkles, yet when gazing into his eyes, Elijah could tell that the man before him truly had limitless wisdom and power. An awesome fear took hold of Elijah as he began to feel the weight of the situation at hand. Standing in front of him was the almighty creator and mastermind behind everything ever created. Everything, good and evil stemmed from and was in control of that man, and Elijah currently had the honor of being in his presence. Doing what he considered to be the only appropriate action, Elijah got down on one knee and bowed before him. God looked at him with a soft smile and said, "I know you have many questions, young Elijah. Rise, and I will explain why I brought you here" Doing as he commanded Elijah rose up and looked again at the deity before him.

As the initial shock of the encounter wore off, Elijah's mind began to race in confusion as he considered his current situation. He knew if he wasn't on earth that he had finally succumbed to cancer. Questions circulated through Elijah's head; Was he in heaven? If so, where was everyone else? The bible had talked about an innumerable number of people being present there. If this wasn't heaven, where was he? Knowing everything on the young man's mind God began to answer Elijah's questions. "Young Elijah" he started, "Your befuddlement at your current situation has not passed by me, and I suppose telling you where you are at the moment is as good a place as any. We are currently with-in an area that rests between the world below and heaven."

"In between? Is this place Purgatory?" Elijah asked, trying to grasp a hold on what was being revealed to him.

"Although the place known as Purgatory does not truly exist like the writers of your world described it, since this area is in between the mortal realms and heaven, that name will suffice. I have brought you here to 'Purgatory' for an express purpose. That purpose being to execute my will in another world."

God paused for a moment to let that statement sink in.

"For you see Elijah, your universe is one of infinitely many; each with their own subtle, and in some cases not so subtle differences from your own. One of these universes will soon be under the threat of a great evil. In the universes similar to that one, it is typically not an issue. I give those worlds a hero to stop the villainy, and the world continues on as normal. However, the universe I am sending you to is missing it's hero. The young child Tsukune Aono passed away from a car accident two months before his journey would truly begin. I am sending you to take his place."

Elijah stared blankly at the man before him while the words God spoke to him began to sink in. Infinite universes? Him, a hero? It was all too much! What made him good enough to be the hero? Sure he had above average intelligence, but that was as far as his strengths went. Being the captain of his high school's swim team only counted for so much, and outside of the pool his athletic abilities were average at best. As far as Elijah could tell, he was the least qualified to be a hero.

God watched the panic cross the young man's face as he dwelt upon what had just been said to him. God put a comforting hand on Elijah's shoulder to calm him down. After a couple of minutes, the young man let out a deep breath and looked at him to continue. "In Aono's place, you will be attending a school for youkai, or monsters, in English terms, located in Japan. Unlike Aono, who attended as a regular human, I have decided to grant you some abilities to fit in with your other classmates."

"What kind of abilities?" Elijah inquired, "I will let you decide. I will grant you five abilities. Since you will be living in Japan, the ability to read and speak Japanese fluently will be granted to you for free." God replied. Elijah thought carefully for a moment, scanning through all of his childhood memories to find what he thought would suit him best. Coming up with nothing, Elijah turned to the voice of all knowledge and wisdom to request guidance. "Your powers will be ultimately your decision. However I can give you a catalog of sorts, if you wish to view the choices listed." Suddenly, a book appeared in Elijah's hands. Opening the book, Elijah quickly raked through his choices.

Upon finishing, Elijah closed the book shut, and looked back towards God. "Alright" he started, "I would like: Disease Immunity, regeneration, increased physical strength, teleportation, and matter manipulation. "Fine choices, young Elijah. I should warn you though; overusing your two active abilities, teleportation and matter manipulation, will come at a cost of your mental and physical strength. Of course, when paired with regeneration, you will recoup your losses quickly, but using them many times in quick succession, can result in some pretty disastrous consequences." Elijah nodded in understanding. "Alright young one, with that concluded, our discussion here is finished. You will be placed at a bus stop with a pamphlet for the school and a small bag of necessities. The bus that will take you to your destination will stand out from any other. Look for a cigar smoking driver with glowing eyes. I can assure you, it will be impossible to miss."

Without so much of a snap of his fingers, Elijah's world flashed white as he left Purgatory and began his adventure into the unknown world ahead of him.
