I haven't picked up a Warriors book in over three years, but I had an idea for a fic, and ran with it. Let's see how this goes, shall we?

The mountain is where the cats of the former SkyClan have settled. Those that preferred open air, and leaping to catch their prey joined FrostClan, taking up residence in a long-abandoned Twoleg cave, dug into the side of the mountain.

"You want me to authorize a quest for you three, and your mentors, and maybe some other warriors as well, so you can go traipsing through Twolegplace? Are you three certain this is a good idea?" Marshstar asked, addressing the apprentices in front of her. Rockpaw, Wolfpaw and Riverpaw all sat primly in the presence of the leader, but their excitement was palpable. Their mentors, twitching their whiskers with amusement, stood behind them.

"Yes! Rockpaw said he had a dream, and if he's a medicine cat apprentice, that means it's from StarClan." Wolfpaw meowed eagerly.

"Well, not every dream," Rockpaw meowed, correcting his brother. "But it is quite possible this one really was StarClan-sent. It was...different."

"Different how?" Juniperberry asked, curious.

"I'm unsure, exactly," Rockpaw said. "It was more vivid, and I truly believed I was there, down in Twolegplace." Juniperberry nodded, accepting the explanation.

"Well, I'm afraid we can't spare the warriors. It's going to be leaf-bare soon, and we'd best spend leaf-fall preparing. Besides, we already have cats out on a quest." Upon the return of Juniperberry and Rockpaw from the Moonsnow, Juniperberry had announced a quest must be undertaken to find an herb for the coming leaf-bare. It had been a half-moon, and the cats had yet to return.

At the news, the apprentices' faces fell, and a pang shot through Marshstar's heart at the sight.

"Well...I wouldn't want to disobey StarClan." she meowed slyly. "Your mentors will not be able to accompany you...but there may be another cat you can bring along."

"Who?" Riverpaw asked.

"Rain," Marshstar replied. "She once lived in Twolegplace, and she is well-versed in their ways there. Now, I believe you have training today. Go on, now."

"I'll speak to her," Grasscloud promised, on their way out of the leader's den. "In the meantime, you three should get some prey." Riverpaw hoped "speaking to Rain" didn't involve the abomination he'd seen the last time his mentor had said that. The mates had a habit of taking sharing tongues a bit too far.

Clearing the awful thoughts from his mind, Riverpaw focused on his prey selection. Taking a mouse, he padded over to the stalagmite where Wolfpaw and Rockpaw were already sharing a vole.

"I can't actually believe we're doing this," Riverpaw hissed under his breath. "We made up a sign from StarClan. Doesn't that break the warrior code in so many ways?"

"Well, I don't know about you, but ever since Tigerspots told us Midnightjaw and Patchtalon weren't our real parents, that a warrior died bringing us here, in the dead of leaf-bare, I've been curious!" Wolfpaw hissed.

"And how else are we going to get to go and find out," Rockpaw whispered, "unless it's ordered by StarClan?"

"What are you three being all secretive about?" Cloudclaw interrupted. "Come along now, it's time for training."

As Cloudclaw demonstrated just how to position your haunches in order to get the maximum power on a leap, Wolfpaw was busy daydreaming. What was Twolegplace like? Were the cats there friendly, or mean? Would there be enough food for him and his brothers?

"Wolfpaw!" Grasscloud snapped. "That's the third twig you've stepped on. At this rate, there'll be no prey left on the mountain!"

"Sorry," he muttered. On his left flank, Riverpaw was faring little better. What did his mother look like? Riverpaw wondered. Was she black like him? Maybe she was a completely different color, and they all resembled their father.

For the rest of the day, Wolfpaw and Riverpaw had difficulty concentrating on just how to stalk a bird, as they were both too excited. Their plan might actually work! Wolfpaw stepped on more than a dozen twigs, and Riverpaw actually tripped over his own paws stalking a chaffinch, but neither cared. They were completely focused on Rain's answer. Would the old she-cat accompany them?

It was after sunhigh when Grasscloud gave up, and brought them back to camp. "Perhaps a good night of sleep will do you both good," he'd meowed, before padding off.

"So, how was training?" A voice from behind startled them, but they calmed once they realized it was their brother.

"Awful," Riverpaw meowed.

"Sorry to hear that," Rockpaw's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Rain came to talk to me in the medicine den today."

"Really?" Riverpaw's ears perked up.

"What did she say?" Wolfpaw asked.

"She said she's ready when we are." Rockpaw purred. "But we'd better get going soon, otherwise it'll be too cold and icy to make our way back up the mountain."

"Yes!" Wolfpaw cheered. "Come on, let's get the traveling herbs! Let's go!" Rockpaw chortled at his brother's enthusiasm.

"We agreed we'd leave in two days," he meowed.

As Riverpaw lay curled in his nest that night, he kept tossing and turning from excitement. No matter what he did, sleeping was an impossibility. After all, why wouldn't it be?

They were going to Twolegplace!
