Yuya swung his and Sora's joined hands as they walked. It'd been so long since the two of them had the time to relax and explore the town. They had been a little preoccupied with the interdimensional war to go on a proper outing.
Yuya had shown Sora his favorite places. There was the card shop, with amazing new cards. Although Yuya always hoped for a new prismatic, but no luck yet. He also couldn't resist showing Sora the nature park. Sora even laughed when Yuya hung up-side-down from the monkey bars!
But then Sora just wanted to explore the town. Of course, Yuya obliged. How could he say no?
Sora suddenly stopped. His green eyes went wide.
"Sora?"
Yuya's companion pressed his face to the window of the nearest shop. Puzzled, Yuya sidled up beside him to peer in too. Candies pouring from buckets and stuffed into colorful displays met both boys' eyes.
Yuya chuckled, and gestured towards the door. "Did you want to go in?"
Sora gasped, choking a little on the window he'd previously had his face plastered to. "Can we?"
"Of course!"
The bell dingled, signalling their entrance. Yuya decided to let Sora have a minute. The store itself was impressive.
Colorful rainbows arched over the walls. Some of them had cauldrons beneath them, overflowing with golden chocolate coins. Tables were filled with sweets. Sora saw old-fashioned candy sticks, Fun Dip, Zazzles, Chocolates, Dum-Dums, Tootsie Rolls, Pixie sticks, rock candy, gum, jelly beans, and much, much more were everywhere. Shelves, tables, and baskets, just filled to the brim with CANDY.
"I think I'm in heaven," Sora gushed. Yuya followed him around. Sora had to see everything, and exclaimed over the candies he didn't have in his dimension.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Sora was narrowing his eyes at Yuya.
"Huh?" Yuya came back to Earth abruptly. "Like what?"
"I dunno...all gooey?"
Before Yuya could explain the store's blaring list of songs changed. Yuya recognized this song. He broke into the biggest shit-eating grin Sora had ever seen.
"No," Sora knew that look. "Do NOT start singing!"
"I'm gonna do it," Yuya teased.
"I will kill you where you stand."
"Then do it," Yuya grinned and started dancing a little too. "Secrets stolen, from deep inside!"
"NO!" Sora wailed.
"The drum beats out of time!"
"Please no!" But Sora was smiling. Yuya knew he couldn't resist for long.
"Come on, I'll stop if you join me! If you fall, I will catch you, I will be waiting!"
Sora crossed his arms. Maybe if he didn't look he could resist. The song was almost over anyway.
"You said, go slow. I fall behind. The second hand unwinds!" Yuya was full on performing by then. Even the cashier was nodding along, encouraging him.
Traitor, Sora thought. He sighed deeply. Yuya was such a dopey idiot, but Yuya was his idiot. He took a deep breath.
"If you're lost you can look and you will find me!" Both boys were singing! "Time after time! If you fall, I will catch you, I will be waiting! Time after time!"
They dissolved into giggles, the song fading out. They were laughing so hard they had to hold each other up.
"Bravo!" The cashier shook her head exasperatedly, laughing, and offered a few rounds of applause.
Yuya, ever the performer, bowed deeply. "Happy to entertain!"
Sora bowed a little shyly, but it had been fun to goof off and be a silly kid for a while. Yuya was good at being goofy. It was nice.
Eventually they had to get going. It was getting late, and Yuya had promised Yoko he would bring over Sora for dinner.
"Thanks," Sora's face felt warm. He curled his fingers in between Yuya's gently, allowing Yuya to pull away if he wished.
Yuya happily took Sora's hand in his. "For what?"
"Letting me check out the candy store. It was really fun."
"It was nothing," Yuya smiled. "It made you happy. Speaking of…" He plunged his hand into the lower pocket of his pants. "I got you these."
Colorful swirls met Sora's eyes. Yuya had bought him three, crazy lollipops! One was pink and blue with stripes of purple mixed in. The second was orange and yellow with a green sprig on top, no doubt citrus flavored. His last lollipop was rainbow! Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple, all rolled into one.
"Why did you… You didn't have to… I- we- weren't we just looking?" Sora stammered. He'd never been given something he wanted like this before.
Yuya shrugged. "Because you like lollipops, right? Why can't I just give them to you just cuz I like you? Besides, lollipops always make me think of you now."
Sora didn't recognize these feelings. It was like being gut punched? But in a good way? Like he wanted to cry and laugh all at once? No one had ever… thought of him like this before...His face felt warm, and he squeezed Yuya's hand.
Yuya leaned his head up against Sora's. Their soft red, green and blue hairs caught up together in swirls mirroring Sora's new lollipops.
"Thank you," Sora murmured.
"For you?" Yuya quickly snuck a peck into the locks of Sora's blue hair. He didn't need to see Sora's face to know he'd gone scarlet. "Any time."
