Memories of Another

I've been trying to find a fic like this and obviously couldn't. Most likely I wasn't looking hard enough. So I made it myself. Here is the story about Dean and Cas finding out they have a daughter from another world that no one asked for. In all honesty I think this is the only way it would work. Dean and Cas belong together there is no doubt. But I still feel like they would only get together like lovers if Cas still had a female vessel. And that line of thinking led me here.

"Alright, bacon and eggs with a side of hash for me and the kid, egg-whites and a fruit bowl for the jolly giant, and a cup of coffee for baby in a trench coat," Dean smirked at Cas who just narrowed his eyes. "Hope everybody is hungry."

Sam snickered at his brother's antics while Jack just looked between two of his three dads curiously.

Before any of them could dig in the room started to shake.

"Either that's God or another rip in realities." Dean snarked hoping to turn a tense situation into something less so.

They all looked to Jack after hearing that.

"I didn't do it." Jack told them, shaking his head.

With that confirmation, they pulled out their respective weapons and marched for the source of the shaking. They made it to the infirmary where in fact there was another rip shone with its golden brilliants. They prepared themselves for the worst raising their weapons high. They were ready for anything, after the Hunter Corp. Sam and Dean popped into their world there wasn't much they didn't expect.

Still this didn't prepare them for another Dean to come falling through, more gashes and cuts than skin and with a bundle cradled in his arms.

"What the hell?" Dean asked no one, eyeing the bloodied version of himself as the rift closed in on itself.

"Check him." Sam urged putting his gun away.

Sam took the bundle trying to discern what it was and going stock still when he found out.

"This guy is not doing well." Dean hissed checking out all the wounds that were spurting blood on a fountain level. "Cas, do you think you can heal him?"

"I'll try." Cas told him letting his hand hover over the other Dean's face.

Yet, just like before it didn't work, Cas looked to his Dean and shook his head.

"Maybe I can-" Jack started to offer, but Dean cut him off.

"Not happening." He shook his head. "Not unless you want Chuck coming here and killing you."

Jack looked torn, this was another version of Dean after all. Another version of one of his dads. And with his soul back he was hurting for the sight before him. Yet he understood. He had to keep his powers under wraps.

"Guys." Sam called, quiet and breathless with the shock of what he held in his arms

"Let's at least get him up on a bed." Cas offered, which Jack nodded to using their strength to carry him to the nearest cot making him groan and wake.

"Hey easy pal." this world's Dean tells alternate Dean who was looking around wildly. "Don't do anything crazy alright."

"Where is she?" alternate Dean demanded. "Where is she?"

"Guys." Sam called again louder.

"What?" Dean asked turning with the others to see Sam holding out ever so carefully- the bundle which turned out to be a small girl wrapped in a blanket, fast asleep.

"Oh." Dean gulped.

"El." alternate Dean breathed, relieved. "Bring her here, please. Let me see her."

Sam wasted no time bringing the child closer. Alternate Dean was tearing up at seeing the little one. He smiled as much as he cut lip would allow as she gave a little sleepy whimper.

"You have to look after her." he implored them. "You have to keep her safe."

"Safe from what?" Sam asked.

"What happened?" Dean demanded.

"Chuck." alternate Dean choked, coughing up blood.

Cas helped him turn on his side so he could spit it into a pan which Dean rushed under him.

"What did Chuck do?" Cas urged gently.

"He came to our world." alternate Dean gasped. "He told us that he wanted to make us a deal. I kill El, and our world survives."

"He wanted you to kill a child?" Jack wondered, horrified.

"She isn't just a child." alternate Dean shook his head. "She is mine and Cas's."

"What?" Dean bulked.

"She's a Nephilim?" Sam asked.

"She's more-" he started coughing again, this time the blood came out in a larger volume.

"Dean." Cas urged, giving him a look that clearly said that other Dean didn't have long.

"I can't tell you the whole story." alternate Dean coughed. "We refused, and he started killing us. First Sam then Elean, Cas, and I ran and started the spell to get us here. But he got Cas before we could jump through. He destroyed most of my organs, then I used what was left of my strength to take El and jump."

They all looked to each other worriedly as the little girl.

"Cas." alternate Dean implored grasping Cas's hand. "Take my memories, please. You need to know what she is. Why she is so important. I can't tell you everything, not in time. Please."

Cas looked like he wanted to object- like he normally would when it came to poking around his friend's mind.

"Do it." Dean told him.

Nodding, Cas placed his hand on other Dean's brow. There was an intense look on both their faces as Cas's eyes glowed blue and he extracted the memories and absorbed them into his own. He stopped when other Dean started to heave and convulse. Cas tried to soothe him, but the end was coming.

"Take care of her." alternate Dean begged. "She's my world."

"Hey, Dean, hang in there." Sam told the other Dean bringing the little girl just a little closer so he could gaze upon her sleeping face.

Alternate Dean smiled at her, a sad broken smile, tears streaming down his cheeks.

"My little angel." he gasped, and seconds later, he was gone.

They quickly gave the man his burial rights, which was mostly done by the brothers while Cas took El and cared for her, a curious Jack close on his heels. Dean saw it right away, this look Cas got after receiving the memories from other Dean. It was the same look he got whenever Jack was in danger. The look of a worried father. The brothers had so many questions about the girl. And as soon as the body was taken care of they were ready for answers.

"Cas," Dean started, sitting across from the man.

They were in the study, Cas was rocking the toddler in his arms and humming what sounded like Rambling On. Dean eyed him. Looking between him and the girl.

"It keeps her calm." Cas explained.

"So what did he show you?" Sam asked. "What's the kid's story."

A look of forlorn agony crossed the angel's face as he rubbed the girl's back.

"Her full name is Ellen Jo-Marry Winchester," he began. "She is five years old, and she is a Nephilim and a cambion."

"A cambion?" Dean choked, looking between the girl and Cas.

"What's a cambion?" Jack asked.

"It's a half-human, half-demon child," Sam told him also eyeing the girl. "We met one once, a long time ago. Jesse. He could warp reality, kind of like you Jack."

"Whatever he believed, happened." Dean clarified. "And you're telling us that she is one-third angel, one-third human, and one-third demon?"

"Yes." Cas nodded, still rubbing the girl's back.

"How?" Dean demanded, loudly. "Other me said that she was his and the other Cas's kid. So how the hell is she part demon?"

"Ssh!" Cas hissed, looking down at the stirring girl, waiting till she settled before continuing. "In this other world, I didn't possess Jimmy Novack. Instead, I was still in the body of the woman Jessa Danielson, the woman I joined within this universe in 1901. For the most part, their story played out the same as ours in this world, however, they apparently had a strong attraction to each other. When their Dean became a demon through the mark of Cain, he found his Castiel and they had sex."

Dean choked on that, Jack looked uncomfortable and Sam snorted out of humor at his brother's expense and horror from the image that penetrated his mind.

"Multiple time, over the course of many days-"

"Cas!" Dean barked, pausing to make sure that the girl didn't wake. "We get it, just get on with the story."

"Right." Cas nodded, still rubbing the girl's back. "So after ten months, El was born. Before that their Dean was cured after they put the mark back on Cain locked them in a Malec box so they didn't free Amara or Lucifer. But still, El was born from an angel and a knight of hell. That's why Chuck is afraid of her, she is extremely powerful."

"And other me didn't try to kill her?" Dean asked.

It's what he would have done.

Cas looked stricken.

"No." he gruffed. "He loved her, they both did. She was their entire world. When he found out that she was pregnant he was scared, but also excited."

"She's part demon." Dean threw out.

"She's part him." Cas ticked, now looking angry. "He wasn't afraid of her, he was afraid that he wasn't a good father." a wistful smile graced his lips then. "He doted on her when he found out, made sure she had all the comforts she needed till she gave birth. And when El was born she became his whole world. He loved them so much."

This was odd for Dean. The way Cas spoke and looked, it was almost…

"Cas," Sam began. "Did he… transfer… his love to you?"

Castiel tilted his head in thought at that.

"In a way." Cas shrugged. "I do believe I've come to care for her through his memories. Some of them were hers. She wanted him to know what it felt like to be pregnant when El moved or kicked, so she would show him through her mind. It… it was intense for him an odd, but also 'magical' in his words."

"Wait." Sam couldn't help the chuckle that escaped his lips. "Other Dean got to experience pregnancy? He was vicariously pregnant?"

"That is what Cas was implying." Jack nodded. "I think anyway." now he looked unsure, glancing to Cas for confirmation. "Is that what you were implying."

"That isn't the point!" Dean urged, glaring at his brother. "The point is we now know where she comes from and what she is. But what do we do with her now?"

"What do you mean?" Cas asked, clueless. "He asked us to look after her. So we will look after her."

"Cas," Dean sighed, rubbing his face. "We have way more important things on our plates right now. Like defeating God."

"What do you suggest we do with her?" Cas demanded, defensive.

"I don't know," Dean admitted. "We could send her to Jody's."

"No." Sam shook his head. "She already has four girls to look after. Even with Donna's help that is a lot. We can't dump a Nephilim-cambion on her too. That is too much."

"If we keep her here she'll use her powers." Dean shot back. "Leading Chuck right to us and to Jack."

"I'll take her somewhere safe," Cas concluded, glancing to Jack who looked sad but nodded. "I'll keep her safe."

"No Cas." Dean snapped. "If you do that then Chuck will find you both and kill you."

"Then what do you want me to do, Dean? We can't stay here and I refuse to abandon her."

"Why not?"

"I am not abandoning her."

"She isn't yours Cas!" Dean roared making everyone jump. "She isn't ours! She is dangerous!"

"You said the same thing about me," Jack interjected. "Because I was Lucifer's son."

"That's different." Dean gritted. "You weren't raised by him."

"And she wasn't raised by Knight of Hell you." Cas insisted. "You were cured of the Mark before she was born. She was raised by us. A human and an Angel."

"No, she was raised by them." Dean pushed. "We don't know what kind of people they were."

"I do." Cas reminded. "I saw everything from the moment they met for the first time, to their last stand together, to protect their daughter. They were just like we are now with only slight differences."

"Such as?"

"He never wanted to abandon his daughter." Cas snarled. "He never questioned whether she was dangerous or not because she was his!"

"She is not mine!" Dean roared again.

"Mommy?"

They all froze at the small voice. Staring wide-eyed and terrified at the little girl who was looking up blurrily at Cas. Were they gonna have to explain to her that they weren't her real family? How would she react to that? What do they do?

"What happened to your body?" El asked, looking the angel up and down. "You look like a boy now."

"Um…" Cas drew a blank.

But the girl's eyes suddenly got wide as she looked around frantically.

"Is the bad man still here?" she panicked. "I don't want him to hurt anyone anymore!"

"No, no." Cas hushed. "The bad man is gone."

"Tha- that's why your mommy looks like that." Sam jumped in getting the girl's attention.

"Uncle Sammy!" she cried, struggling out of Cas's lap and rushing to the giant, climbing up his legs with practiced ease. "I thought the bad man hurt you."

"I'm okay," Sam assured, leaning down to hug her close. "I'm okay, we're all okay."

"What did the bad man do to mommy, why does she look like a boy?" El asked, tilting her head in a way that reminded Sam of Cas.

"Well, uh, he made your mommy change how he- she looks." he fought not to cringe at how lame that sounded. But seriously, how were you supposed to explain this to a child. "So that's why he looks like that."

"Oh," she said. "I don't get it, but it's still mommy. I can see her other faces."

"Other faces?" Sam asked.

"My true form," Cas said, bewildered. "She can see my true form."

"What else can she do?" Dean demanded.

"Daddy!" El cried, now jumping out of Sam's arms and into Dean's lap wrapping her arms the best she could around his shoulders. "You're okay, the bad man didn't hurt you?"

"Um… no," Dean started, fighting the urge to wrap the girl in his arms, she was still dangerous. "Um, Cas- I mean mommy healed me up."

That got another chuckle from Sam.

"Shut up Sammy." he gritted.

"Wait." Jack suddenly realized something. "You said that Amara was never released in her world, meaning they never freed Lucifer and I was…"

"Never born." Cas nodded. "She has no idea who you are."

"You're pretty." El smiled at Jack. "What's your name?"

"Oh, ah, Jack." he nodded, holding up his hand in a motionless wave. "Hello."

"Hi." she waved back. "I'm El."

"Nice to meet you El." Jack smiled.

"El," Cas began. "This is your… cousin… he came while you were sleeping. He's going to be staying with us from now on."

"Really." El's eyes lit up at the idea of having a new friend, but the light dimmed suddenly as she looked down. "Does he have to wear one of these too?"

She reached into her shirt pulling out Dean's god-seeking necklace, holding it up for them all to see.

Cas instantly recognized it from other Dean's memories.

"Um, no… sweetie, he's got magic on him to keep his powers in check." Cas assured.

She pouted letting the medallion fall against her chest.

"Soon I'll learn to control my powers. Then I won't have to wear this stupid thing anymore." she said confidently.

"Yes, you will." Cas smiled. "But until then let's keep it on."

"Okay." she nodded, her eyes clouding over darkly, sadly as she looked up to Dean. "I promise, I won't take it off yet. I don't want to hurt Daddy ever again."

"What is she talking about?" Dean asked.

"Don't you remember, daddy?" she asked, looking puzzled.

This was going to be tricky, Cas realized. Without Sam and Dean knowing what happened they couldn't keep up this charade for much longer. That is when the idea struck him. They needed to know what happened. Then Dean will understand why Cas can't send her away.

"El," he began. "Why don't we go to my- mommy's room so you can watch Scooby-doo."

"Yeah!" she cheered, leaping into Cas's waiting arms. "Scooby-doobie-doobie-doo, we're gonna follow you~"

Cas smiled as she sang, looking to the others.

"I'll be right back." he told them.

It didn't take long for him to set her up in his designated room, soon enough she was bouncing in her seat singing along with the theme song and cheering at Scooby and the gang's accomplishments.

Smiling at her one last time he told her they'd be in the study and closed the door behind himself.

"Cas?" Sam asked as he joined them.

They were now in the war room waiting for him.

"What was that all about?" Dean asked. "What does she mean she doesn't want to hurt me again?"

"It's clear that this little act isn't going to work unless you have all the facts," Cas told them. "I'm going to share the memories I've received to make this all easier on us."

The brothers shared a look, Sam tilting his head in a "what do we have to lose" gesture and Dean rolls his eyes admitting defeat.

"Fine." Dean sighed. "Let's do this."

The first time Dean ever saw the Angel Castiel his first instinct was to shoot it dead.

Even if it was a pretty woman.

So he shot and shot and shot. Still, she came forward. She was serene. Long dark hair that fell in such perfect curls that it was unnatural. Her eyes blazed a frozen blue fire, poorly hiding power that he could barely comprehend. She wore a long tan trench coat that reached her mid-thigh, covering a white dress shirt, blue tie, black blazer, and black pencil skirt held up by suspenders. To tie it all together she wore a pair of white victorian boots that looked more authentic than vintage.

She stopped in front of them, looking only at Dean.

"Who are you?" Dean demanded finding his gun useless, he clutched at the demon knife behind his back.

"I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from prediction." she told him, standing tall.

"Yeah, thanks for that." Dean nodded.

"Please don't use your knife." she hummed. "It won't work on an angel of the lord."

That got both men to pause.

"Dean Winchester, we need to talk," she told him, glancing at Bobby. "Alone."

That was only the beginning of their journey.
