DAWN OF A LEGEND
CHAPTER 1: THE BEGININGS
Well, hello there! This is my first Pokémon fanfiction, so please go a little easy on me. I would try my level best to give you all a good read. Now on to my story, the journey would be starting from the age of 15, which according to me at least is the right age, since maximum of the trainers starting at age 10 are not mature enough to face the perils of the world.
Another thing, would be the starter, it would be different then the original. Matter of fact I am not going to give a Pikachu to Ash until further later on his journey.
There would be greater role Delia would be playing in the fanfic. Normally, all the fanfic makes Ash's father someone great. But my one would be different.
Now, I can talk later! Lets get down to the story!
Speech:
"Go Pokémon!"- Normal speech for both Human and Pokémon
'Go Pokémon!'- Thoughts
"Go Pokémon!"- Move calling/ Tournament Announcements, etc.
Oh! I don't Pokémon!
Pallet Town, a beautiful town located near Mt. Hideaway in Kanto. Surrounded by lush green forests on all sides, it was a very peaceful place. It was only famous for being the town where the former champion and world-famous Pokémon researcher Samuel Oak lived.
The sun was shining brightly overhead on a normal summer day in Pallet.
The forests surrounding the town were habituated by a variety of Pokémon, it was in these forests we find a small boy of nine years old playing with a Polywag.
"Ha! I caught you Polywag!" came an exuberant voice of one Ash Ketchum. He was nine year old kid with untamed spikey jet-black hair. He had small bolt like scars on each of his cheeks. He was a little small for a boy of his age. He had an unending love for Pokémon and anything related to it.
Ash was supposed to start his journey on his upcoming tenth birthday, but the Pokémon League committee had increased the age limit from 10 to 15 for starting the journey. They stated that 10 years of age was early for anyone to start their journey, since they didn't have the right mindset all the time to face the dangers that entailed.
After a lot of debates, the law was finally passed increasing the age from 10 to 15. Those who had already started on their journey were allowed to continue, but the new batch of trainers had to wait for another five years to start on their adventure.
*Crash*
The sound of something crashing reverberated the through the entire forest. Ash and Polywag also heard it loud and clear.
"What was that? Common let's go and see" said Ash.
"Poly!" came a reply from the small tadpole Pokémon.
The duo of Pokémon and boy made their way towards the direction from which the sound came. After another five minutes of walking, they came in front of a small wayside road. This road was not used by many due it being a non-cemented road. This road connected Mt. Hideaway and the highway.
But the scene Ash and Polywag were greeted by was a truck that had crashed into the boulders and two men working on them.
"Hey man! We need to hurry! The police might onto us by now! We need to get these Pokémon to the docks by evening" said one of them.
"Oh, don't worry, we took this route to avoid being caught by the police" said the other one.
The previous one of the duo was a fat man, with a black bandana over his head. The other one was a scrawny man, with brown hair and handkerchief tied around his neck.
The fat man laughed loudly, "HAHA! It was so easy to poach these Pokémon. Now we would make quite the fortune by selling them Joe" he said towards the now identified Joe.
Joe joined the laughter and said, "Yeah man, and it was pretty easy to lose the police".
Now Ash might not have been the most attentive student in the class, but he knew what a Pokémon poacher was. But, a nine year old without thinking of the consequence, jumped into the conclusion of helping the Pokémon.
"Hey Polywag, we need to help those Pokémon" said Ash in a whisper. The small tadpole though seemed to hesitate a bit, but finally nodded its head.
The duo slowly made their way around the truck, making sure not to catch the attention of the poachers. They slowly crawled towards the back door of the storage. To their luck they saw that it was open. Slowly crawling inside Ash was greeted by a sight he would never forget. There lay in the cages were stacks of Pokémon with a large red eye on a spherical head. It had claws at the back of its body. Their body color was teal metallic.
But it was another Pokémon that caught Ash's eyes. It was set aside from the others in a different cage. It had a disc shaped body with a pair yellow spikes on either side of the rear. There was another yellow spike min the middle of its face, similar to a nose. A pair of red eyes in two holes in its skin. It didn't have any leg, but had a pair of thick arms with three claws on the end. The entire body color of the Pokémon a little grayish white.
Ash came out of his surprise and told the white Pokémon, "Don't worry I will rescue you all"
The sheer conviction and determination in his voice surprised the Pokémons. The white colored Pokémon tilted its head on what appeared to be a nod of acknowledgement. Ash made his way towards the lock and saw it was some kind of a mechanical lock. So, he came with the next best thing. He turned towards Polywag and said, "Polywag use water gun on the lock!"
The tadpole Pokémon unleashed a water gun attack directly at the mechanical lock. As it came in contact with water, it short-circuited and burst open, creating enough noise to alert the poachers.
"What was that?!" one of them shouted from the.
"Don't worry I'll go and see" said the other man. Ash could hear approaching footsteps of the and quickly hid himself behind one of the boxes. The man entered and looked around, finally making his way towards the cages to check on them.
"What the hell? Where did the water come from?" he asked mainly to himself. Ash was looking on nervously from his hiding spot. He then saw a rod being floated in the air and hit the man on the head.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" he roared. Ash was still hiding and looked towards the white Pokémon and saw that its eyes have changed from red to blue. Thinking that he was using some attack, Ash in all his naiveite called out, "Polywag Water Gun!"
Hearing the command, Polywag hit a water gun aiming for the head of the poacher. The water gun attacked hit him on the head sending him tumbling towards the other end.
"Quick lets get out, but first Polywag use water gun and free the rest" said Ash.
"Poly!" cried the Pokémon as he started using water gun to free the rest. The white Pokémon also used some kind of attack, Ash didn't know to break the cages. Setting everyone free, they were about to leave when,
"Houndoom Flamethrower!" as a huge torrent of flames covered Ash and the other's escape path. Ash turned around to see that the fat poacher was standing there with a Houndoom by its side with a smug expression his face.
"So, you were the one that caused the noise and broke the lock eh. Aren't you brave one but its ends here boy" the fat man said. Soon the person joined them and let out his Beedrill. Both the Pokémon were looking towards them with a menacing look.
Ash knew that he was stuck, but soon the white Pokémon came in front of Ash and stood acting like a shield.
"Is this not cute? The shiny one is trying to protect the midget" said the scrawny looking man.
"Let's finish them, Houndoom Flamethrower!" said the fat man.
"Beedrill Pin missile" said the other one.
As the attacks were converging the white Pokémon brought up some kind of light shield and stopped the attacks. Though it was able to stop it the shockwave of those strong attack sent Ash to the ground as he lost his footing.
Ash looked up and saw that they were again preparing to attack. But before they could he heard his mother's voice.
"Salamence! Dragon Rage on those two!"
The shockwave hit both the Pokémon knocking them out. Ash looked up and saw a huge blue quadrupedal Pokémon with two long red wings. There were red strips over its eyes. It had white belly. The underside of its legs also contained red stripes. All in one it was a huge Pokémon that radiated power from itself. What surprised more was his mother was riding the Pokémon.
"NOW WHO THE FUCK IS SHE?!" the fat poacher shouted.
The giant Pokémon landed in front of Ash and the others acting as a guard. His mother Delia Ketchum, descended from the Pokémon and stood by its side. She had long brown hair, slender figure and a beautiful face. She was wearing her usual yellow undershirt, pink jacket and purple long skirt. She looked towards Ash, "Are you alright sweety?" she asked in a tone filled with motherly concern.
"Yes Mom, I am fine, just some scrapes and nothing else" Ash said, so as not to worry his mother too much.
"Delia!"
Both Ash and Delia turned towards the direction of the voice and saw the old Professor Oak making his way towards them with his fearsome Dragonite by his side. He had grey hair, he was wearing a red shirt and brown pants. His famous white researcher coat donned over the shirt. He had a serious expression on his face. His partner Dragonite also by his side, with a menacing snarl plastered on its face.
"Thank goodness nothing drastic happened here" said Oak.
"Shit! Its Samuel Oak! We need to get out of here!" said the scrawny one. Both of them made a beeline towards the forest.
"Not so fast! Salamence use Dragon Rage on the boulders and block their path" said Delia.
Salamence, as said blasted another Dragon Rage towards the boulders, which got destroyed and blocked the path of the fleeing poachers as they fell right in front of them. Seeing that they had no other option they turned around to face their adversaries.
In front of them stood, Delia with her Salamence by her side, and Professor Oak with his Dragonite. Seeing that they had no means of escape they became frustrated and enraged towards Ash for foiling their plan. The Scrawny Poacher that Ash was at the side unprotected, and also seeing that Delia and the Professor not paying attention to him. He decided to pull off his last trick.
He picked one of his poke balls and threw it towards Ash, "You damn brat! This is all your fault! Murkrow Shadow Ball on the brat!" he said.
The poke ball released another black bird Pokémon, it followed its master's orders and fired a shadow ball towards the unsuspecting boy.
"Ash move!" his mother screamed but, Ash was frozen in his place seeing the attack heading towards him. It was at the last minute did he move, but the attack his previous position. The blast that was created in the aftermath threw him harshly against a tree. He fell to the ground hard, screaming in agony.
Seeing her son's state Delia saw red, she turned towards the poachers, "YOU BASTARDS! YOU DARE TO HURT MY SON! SALAMENCE USE OUTRAGE ON THEM!" she roared.
Salamence didn't need to be told twice, he fired the extremely powerful attack towards them, which soon engulfed them in an explosion. When the dust cleared, one could see two broken and bruised figures along with their Pokémon lying on the ground. They were knocked completely out, but were alive.
Delia quickly made her way towards Ash, who by this time had somehow managed himself on his feet. She enveloped him in a bone crushing hug. Small tears had made their way in Ash's eyes, due to the earlier incidents. He was very glad to see his mother.
"Do you know how worried I was when I heard the sound of the crash, especially when the other children told me that you were headed in that direction. Oh, I am so relieved seeing you in one piece" said Delia, with relief clear in her voice.
"I am sorry mom, I just wanted to help the Pokémons" said Ash in a very subdued voice. He felt guilty of worrying his mother to this extent.
"I know honey, but please do look out for yourself first. I wouldn't know what to do without you" said Delia as she tightened her hug around her son.
"Yes mom" said Ash, his voice cracking a little, as he hugged his mother back. He needed her comfort after the previous incident.
"Alright, now let's take these Pokémon and the poachers and head back. I need to make some calls and get them arrested. I also have to make calls to return the poached Pokémons to their original place" said Professor Oak.
"Yes" said the mother and son duo in unison.
THAT NIGHT
Ash and his mother Delia were having a nice little dinner. After such strenuous day, anything that Ash ate tasted delicious, not that his mother didn't already make tasty food. They were having some mundane chat, when Ash decided to ask the question that had been eating him up, since the afternoon.
"Mom, what kind of Pokémon was Salamence, and how do you have it in?" asked Ash.
Delia put her spoon down and looked towards Ash, "Honey, Salamence is a Dragon type Pokémon. They are quite strong Pokémon, some even able to go toe to toe with the legendary Pokémons. As for why I have it, well it was my starter" said Delia smiling at her son.
Ash was dumbfounded by what his mother had told him. He didn't know that such a Pokémon existed in the first place. To go toe to toe with Legendary? How strong does it have to be for that? Another thing that startled Ash was that his mother's starter was the Salamence. He didn't know that his mother was a trainer, he always thought that she was just a regular woman, who owned some restraunts all over Kanto.
"But Mom, I thought you said that you gave up on your dream to be a trainer after you had me" said Ash lowly. He felt sad that his mother had to sacrifice her dream for him.
"No Ashy, I did give up on being a trainer after I had you. But before that I was trainer, and a good one at that if I say so myself. I after all won two league conferences" said Delia, with a hint of pride in her voice over her achievements.
"Wow" Ash didn't know what to say. His mother was a league champion, and he didn't even know about that. "But, then why does no one know about your achievements?" asked Ash.
"I was known as Rose the Dragon Princess. I disappeared after you were born, so that I could live happily with you. Also, there were bad people who might have attacked you to get me, so I wanted to protect you. Only Professor Oak knows about my true identity. I originally wanted to tell you when you were ten, but now you know," said Delia.
Ash was contemplating what he was hearing. His mother was league winner and a was famous all over the world through her other name Rose. He on the other hand, didn't even know much about Pokémon, or their attacks for that matter. Ash knew after today, that he needed to learn a lot of things, so that he could be as good a trainer as his mom was. He looked up at her nervously and said,
"Mom would you teach me everything you know"
To say Delia was surprised was an understatement, her son wanted to learn? What happened to the hyperactive knucklehead?
"Why sweety? It's not that I don't want to, but what brought this up?" she asked softly.
"I understood that I still have much to learn. I want to be prepared for my journey, so mom please teach me everything you know. I want to learn and then use the knowledge to better myself" said Ash with determination.
Delia smiled at her son's maturity, she placed her hand on top of his head and ruffled his hair, "Alright honey, I will teach you everything I know about Pokémon and Battling. We will start from Monday, as I need to buy certain books for you" she said.
"Thanks Mom! You are the best!" said Ash excitedly. Delia couldn't help but smile at her son's excitement.
NEXT DAY
Ash was walking towards Professor Oak's lab; he had been called by the Professor on the morning asking him to meet him in his laboratory.
Professor Oak's Lab was situated on the hill from where the entire Pallet town was visible. It was the next highest spot in Pallet, after Mt. Hideaway. Behind the lab building was the enormous reserve where Trainer's Pokémon resided. It was largest of its kind in Kanto, with Safari Zone being bigger than this.
Ash was ascending through the stairs towards the lab. Soon he reached the doors and rang the bell. Waiting for a few minutes, Professor opened the door. He was smiling towards Ash.
"Ah, Ash my boy come in. There is someone here to see you" said the Professor as he led Ash towards the living room.
As Ash entered the room, he saw other occupant of the room. He was wearing an expensive suit and had the symbol of Pokémon League on his blazer.
"Ash meet Derick Stone. Derick this is the boy you were looking for" said Professor Oak.
Ash looked towards Derick in confusion, why was this man looking for him?
"Ah, so this the young man. Hello there young man, my name is Derick Stone. I have come here on the behalf of the league to give you a present for your bravery and selflessness for trying to save the Pokémon." said Derick.
"I didn't do it for some reward, I just wanted to help" said Ash sheepishly.
"Hahahah, but you did what many wouldn't. So, the league presents you with this gift for your actions" said Derick as he handed ash a box. Ash opened the book, and he couldn't believe what he was seeing. There lay in the box, a free pass to buy any TM from the Celadon City Departmental Store. Ash picked up and saw the limit was ten, which further surprised him.
Now, TM were Technical Machines that were used to teach Pokémon new moves. They were mainly made by Silf&Co. They were of two types, one which could be used once, and the other were permanent, that is unlimited times they could be used. The permanent were very costly, with very few individuals could afford it. The normal ones were also very expensive but nothing that cannot be afforded by normal people.
Now Ash had the pass to buy not one but ten permanent TMs. Ash looked up towards Daerick and said, "I can't take this, this is too much"
"Nonsense by boy, you deserve it" said Derick.
"Thank you" Ash said with a subdued voice.
"Now the other thing I came here for. You remember the white Metang you saved?" asked Derick.
Ash had later learned that the white one was known as Metang from Oak. He also learned the others were Beldum, the pre-evolved form of Metang. But the Metang Ash saw was different, it was rare variant known as Shiny.
"Yes, I remember" said Ash.
"Well, I had a conversation with that Metang. It seemed that it wanted to stay with you" said Derick.
"What?" asked Ash dumfounded.
"Well, it seems that you have caught the eye of the fellow. Also, my own Metagross said to me that you might have what it takes to raise one of those chunks" said Derick.
"But I never met your Metagross, so how does it know me?" asked a curious Ash.
"My boy, my Metagross is one of the strongest of its species. It saw you through the Metang's memories. Anyone who has Metagross's approval, automatically has mine" said Derick. He then took out another Poke ball from his pocket and placed it in front of Ash.
"But I am not a trainer! I cannot own a Pokémon for myself" said Ash.
"Well, my boy, there is no such rules that a non-trainer cannot own a Pokémon. Many people out there are not trainers, still they own some Pokémon. It is just that non trainers cannot own more than 4 Pokémon" said Professor Oak.
Ash silently looked towards the Poke ball, contemplating whether or not to accept. He then looked towards Professor Oak, as if asking for his advice. Professor understood Ash's dilemma, nodded his head encouraging him to accept.
Seeing the Professor nod, Ash took a large breath and looked up to Derick with determination shinning in his eyes, "Very well, I accept to take Metang and I will do my best to train him properly" he said.
Derick smiled at Ash's answer, he then turned towards his bag and took out a book. He handed the book to Ash. Ash was confused at first but then he saw the books title.
A Compendium on Metagross by Derick Stone
Ash looked up at Derick, "This is..." he trailed off.
"A compendium on Metagross and how to raise it. Put it to memory and it will help you greatly" said Derick, sagely. "It seems that it's time for me to take my leave. I will look forward to your success in the future Young man. I hope to see you soon. Goodbye Ash, Goodbye Professor" said Derick. After that, he made his way towards the exit and left.
After he left Professor Oak turned towards Ash, "Well my boy, it seems that you have caught the eye of quite a guy. If I, were you, I would commit the entire book given to you to memory, after all Derick Stone is known to be the foremost in training a Metagross" said the old professor.
Ash nodded looking towards both the book and the poke ball. After a few moments he looked up to meet the Professor's eye, "Professor, last day I came to understand that I am still quite unprepared to be a trainer. I already asked Mom to help me, but I would also like to ask you to teach me everything you know about Pokémon" said Ash.
Professor Oak looked like he had just got a birthday present, he beamed towards Ash and said, "Of course my boy! I will gladly help you and teach you to the best of my abilities. Considering now that you know your mother's secret, she would be teaching you about battling. I will be helping you with the other theory related stuff. Oh. How I wish Gary would also accept my help and let me teach him. He is smart but he still needs to be let down the right path" he finished with a little somber expression.
Ash beamed at his answer, "Thank you Professor! I promise I will do my best!" he said in an excited voice.
Ash then said his goodbye to Professor Oak and headed home to show his mother his presents, and also tell her about his new Pokémon. After reaching his home, Ash quickly told his mom everything that transpired in the lab. To say that she was surprised upon hearing about his new Pokémon would be an understatement. He then left the house for the backyard to release his new Pokémon for the first time.
As he reached the backyard, he took the poke ball in his hand and took a deep breath. He then threw the ball in the air.
"Pokémon I choose you!"
In a white flash appeared before him the same White colored disc shaped Pokémon from the previous day. It was floating in the air, defying gravity. It slowly turned towards Ash and floated near him. Ash seeing him approach also started to take small steps towards him. Once he was within an arm's length, Ash extended his arm and slowly caressed his metallic head. It let out a pleasing hum on Ash's ministrations.
"I hear that you wanted to stay with me. Although I still don't understand why you chose me, I did what anyone would have done. But, now that we are together, we will work hard together and become the very best. I will help you to become the strongest Metagross there is, since I want to become the Pokémon Master, or the strongest trainer there ever was. So Metang are you with me?" asked Ash after what seemed to be a passionate speech.
"Tang!" came the reply from the disc shaped Pokémon.
Unknown to both of them, Delia had been listening in on the conversation and couldn't help but smile at her son's confidence and positivity. She knew that he would be doing some great stuffs in the future...
SIX YEARS LATER
It's been six years since Ash had saved those beldums and had gotten Metang as his Pokémon. It has also been six years since he had started learning under both his mother Delia and Professor Oak. He has learned a lot under their guidance. He had learned all about Pokémon food and battling from his mom. Whereas he had learned everything generally known about Pokémon from the Professor, from their types to advantage and disadvantage.
Today was the day Ash would be leaving for his journey. He had been so excited last night that he hardly slept. His mother had been a little sad over the past few days knowing that her son would soon be leaving her and would be heading out.
Ash had assured her by saying that he would visit her often, and would be calling her quite regularly. After hearing these assurances from her son, did help in levitating her mood. She was now less sad about him leaving.
Ash was looking at the mirror, taking in his appearance. He had grown quite nicely. He stood at a height of 5'6". His unruly spikey jet black har had been trimmed a little. His scar marks on his cheeks have faded quite a lot. From being one of the shortest guys of his age and a little scrawny, he had grown to be quite the handsome young man with a good physique. His physical training had done wonders, with the rigid figure he had grown into.
Ash wore his outfit in which he would be leaving for his journey. He had a black undershirt with sleeves just crossing his elbows. Over his black undershirt he wore a red zip up jacket with high collars. He wore a black jean with blue flaming designs on the side. He wore a red and white cap with symbol of a blue flame on top of the hat. He wore a black and red trekking shoes meant for travelling.
Ash turned away from the mirror and looked towards the rest of his room, which will remain empty while he would be away. After releasing a sigh, Ash picked up his bag and headed downstairs. He made his wat towards the backyard first. There stood two Pokémon, one was the same old white Pokémon that he had rescued all those years ago.
But there by his side stood another Pokémon, it was a medium-sized, bipedal, dragon-like Pokémon that is primarily blue. Its underside is light blue, with red covering it from the middle of its abdomen to the bottoms of its jaw. it has two appendages that resemble jets or plane engines extending out the side of its skull. Each appendage has a blue stripe. It has four fins, one on each arm, one on its back, and another on its tail. The back fin has a notch on it for the male. It has spikes on its hind limbs, and sharp claws on its feet. Its eyes have black sclerae and gold-colored irises. The Pokémon was Gabite, a Dragon and Ground type Pokémon.
It was gift in the form of an egg from his mother. After seeing his progress and him being a good trainer to Metang, his mother had gifted him an egg. It hatched into a Gible a Dragon and Ground type Pokémon. After raising and training it, the Gible evolved a year ago. Ash had never been prouder of both his Pokémon. They were very strong for their type and evolution stage.
"Today we start our journey both of you. I am proud of all the things you two have accomplished over the past few years. I couldn't have asked for better Pokémons than the two of you. But the challenge only just starts, we are going to Sinnoh to conquer the entire thing. Then we are going to challenge the Lily of the Valley Conference" Ash proclaimed by raising his fist above his head.
His Pokémon also liked his idea, which was clear since Gabite let out a roar and Metang, used what seemed to be Mechanical equivalent of a roar. Chuckling at his Pokémon, Ash held out two Pokeballs and recalled them.
Normally, trainers start from their own region, but after studying under Professor Oak, he was mesmerized by their Legendary folklore. Ash had taken quite the interest in knowing about the legendary Pokémon from all regions. He was especially enthralled by the Sinnoh legends. Other factors that helped him decide were the fact that Sinnoh was categorized as the toughest league in the last five years. Its elite four were also considered the strongest out of all the regions.
Also, that his mother originally started from Sinnoh, knowing it helped him make a decision easier. He wanted to try his hand on the toughest of all regional championships, and earn the opportunity to face the strongest Elite Four in the entire world.
He entered his house and made his way towards the Kitchen. It was only 8am in the morning, the Professor has asked them to be there in his lab at 9am. As he entered the kitchen, he saw his mom preparing for what would be their last joint breakfast for some time.
"Hey there sweety, the breakfast is ready. I made you favorite ones today. After all my baby is starting on his journey today" said Delia smiling at Ash.
"Mom! Thank you so much! But a normal breakfast would have been alright, you know" said Ash, he was happy that his mom was always so loving.
"Nonsense! My boy is going out to become the best trainer there is, the least I can do is this, before sending him off" said Delia.
"Thanks! Then thanks for the food!" Ash said as he dug in. Delia soon joined her son on the table, both of them were making small talks with each other. They were just enjoying each other's company since they would be separated for quite some time. Near the end of the breakfast, Delia took out a small wrapped box and handed it to Ash.
Ash opened the box and let gasp of surprise. Inside the box was the latest model of XTransceiver. It had some new and very useful features added to it. With the usual four screen calling, worldwide connectivity to internet and camera recorder, the newest feature that has been added is the function of transferring Poke balls from anywhere to the trainer's designated coral.
"Wow... Mom! Thank you so much!" exclaimed Ash, as he went up and hugged his mother. Delia returned the hug just as fiercely. The latest model was costly but nothing that she couldn't afford. All her earnings from her trainee days and her earnings from her restaurant chain made the Ketchums, kind of rich. It's just that they didn't like to spend their money on luxuries very much.
"No problem sweety, it's the least I could do" said Delia lovingly.
Ash nodded his head in thanks and separated from the hug. He looked up and smiled at her. After that he went on pick up his bag and swung it over his shoulders. He again looked back at his mom,
"Mom, thank you for everything. Now it's time for me to head out. I will call you frequently, so don't worry about that. I will probably visit for a few days after I get my fifth badge. So, until then, take care of yourself mom, and know that I love you!" Ash finished tearfully.
Delia again engulfed her son in another bone crushing hug. She was teary eyed, after rubbing away the tears she looked at her son, "Oh Ashy I am going miss you so much! Know that no matter where you are or whatever you do, as long as it is not illegal, I will be proud of you. No matter what I will always love you. So, take care of yourself. Sinnoh is a very beautiful as well as dangerous place. Do call me frequently, and also don't forget to change your underwear" she finished smiling.
"MOM!" Ash exclaimed; his mother never stopped embarrassing him.
"I love you, now off you go" Delia said.
"Yes, Goodbye, next time we meet you will see how much I have improved! I will tell you about my adventures" said Ash as started making his way towards Professor Oak's Lab. He turned around and gave his mom a last wave of goodbye, which she reciprocated whole heartedly.
It was ten minutes journey to Professor Oak's Lab from his home. As he ascended the stairs, he could see a ton of variety of Pokémon roaming around the premises. He reached the doors and rang the bell. After a few moments the door was opened by Professor himself. He smiled kindly towards Ash,
"Ah, Ash my boy! It seems that you are also early just like the others. Although fifteen minutes early is hardly, I will call early since both Gary and Tyson have arrived nearly an hour ago. Leaf had also arrived nearly fifteen minutes ago. You are the last one to arrive. Now enough said, come in" finished Professor Oak as he led Ash towards his lab.
Soon the duo entered the lab, Ash saw the other occupants of the room. One of them was girl, who was wearing a blue sleeveless shirt. A red skirt, with sky blue socks. She was wearing a white and red trekking shoes. She also had a white round hat with red border with a half poke ball in front of it. She was Leaf Nohara, Ash's childhood friend. She was pretty woman, who wanted to become a trainer just like himself and the others.
The other one Tyson Hiroshi. He was at the same class as Ash and others, unlike others he was never much good in studies, always coming in the middle of the class. But he surprised everyone by passing the trainers examination, joining Ash, Gary and Leaf in the process. He was always a friendly guy, who wanted to become a Pokémon Doctor.
Last was probably the person Ash detested the most, Gary Oak, Professor Oak's grandson. Ash and Gary have been the best of friends, but after joining school and coming at the top of the class for two consecutive years made him vain. Added to the fact that the entire Pallet revered him as the golden boy boosted his growing ego. Soon from being a friend he started mocking Ash in every other thing. Over the time their friendship deteriorated and now they were just rivals and nothing more. Though Ash still wanted to reconnect with him as a friend if he was willing to put his over-the-top ego down.
"Oh so finally the loser decided to join us" said Gary mockingly.
Ash greeted his teeth, so as not to say something rash. He calmed his nerve and decided to ignore him. Ash smirked seeing that Gary scowled at him seeing that he was being ignored.
"Don't listen to him, we just got here" whispered Leaf in Ash's ear. Ash thanked her; he was really happy to have a friend like Leaf.
Tyson greeted him politely by nodding his head in Ash's direction. Ash replied him in kind. It was then that the Professor came back with four new Pokedexes and three Pokeballs. He looked at them, not before giving Gary a disapproving look. Gary sheepishly smiled but said nothing.
"Now that all of you are here, I would like to start off with the fact that I am proud to tell you that I have only three starters with me so, one of you will have to stay back for a while to get their starter, so who is willing to stay back?" asked Professor. Gary stood their smugly, knowing that he would obviously get a Pokémon. The other two were uncomfortable and were waiting for someone to make a move. Seeing that Ash stepped back, signifying that he would wait. Both Tyson and Leaf gave him a grateful look, whereas Professor Oak gave him a proud look.
"Thank You Ash! Now that it is out of the way. These three Poke balls contain the three primary starters of Kanto, on the left is Squirtle, in the middle is Charmander and on the right is Bulbasaur, so without further ado, lets choose. Leaf go forwards, after all ladies first" said Professor. Leaf made her way towards Bulbasaur's poke ball and picked it up. It seemed that she had already chosen from before.
After she returned to her original position, both Tyson and Gary moved together. Tyson chose the Charmander and Gary chose Squirtle. After choosing the both of them returned to their original position.
"Excellent choices all of you! Now these are Pokedexes, they will help you trainers in identifying and learning more about a particular Pokémon. They would also tell you the move set the Pokémon has at the moment" said Professor as he handed the three of them their Pokedexes. Soon after receiving Pokedex Tyson and Gary left in a hurry to start their journey. Leaf thanked Professor and said goodbye to Ash before heading home, to finally leave for the journey.
Ash waited for a few minutes before Professor Oak handed him his Pokedex, "Here you go my boy. This Pokedex is different since you will be travelling through a different region. It will also contain the data of Pokémon from the region Kanto, Johto and Hoenn as well. Now only thing remaining is giving you a starter" said Professor.
"But Professor, I already have two Pokémons! Can't you name Metang as my starter?" asked Ash.
"Yes, I could my boy, but you know the rules. I need to give at least one Pokémon before officially become a trainer" said the old man.
"Fine... so, what Pokémon are you going to give me?" asked Ash, with a hint of excitement in his voice.
"Hmm... I have nidoran, Pikachu and Machop you can take" said the Professor.
Ash didn't like the choices much, "Hm... don't you have something else?" asked Ash.
"Well I do have one Growlithe though, he was my Arcanine's kit" said Professor.
"Yes! I will take the Growlithe" said Ash happily. Growlithe were very loyal Pokémon, their loyalty once earned cannot be wavered. Plus, he would get a fire type on his team, which was also a bonus.
Professor Oak nodded and went to fetch the said Pokémon. Soon he returned with another poke ball. He handed the poke ball to Ash. Ash soon released the Pokémon, who appeared in a white light. It took his surroundings until his eyes landed on Ash.
Ash kneeled in front of him, looking into his eyes, "Hi there! I am your new Pokémon trainer! I will be taking care of you from now and help you to become the strongest Arcanine there is. We will be having a lot of fun if you decide to come along with me. I want to become the best trainer there is. So, will you come with me and help me?" asked Ash.
The Growlithe looked towards Ash, and after a few moments barked happily, showing his consent in the matter.
"Great! We will be the best of Partners!" said Ash as Growlithe again barked in agreement.
Ash then turned towards Professor Oak, who was looking towards him with a prideful expression on his face.
"Well done, Ash! I am proud of you how you turned out after both your mother's and my training. You will go far; I am sure of that. Now, head over to Sinnoh and do the name of both of us and Pallet's name proud" said Professor.
"I will Professor! Next time you will see me, you will see how much I will have improved! Goodbye Professor!" said Ash as he left the lab, Growlithe hot on his tails.
Professor Oak looked at the boy, and knew that he would do just fine out there.
AFTER FEW HOURS
HALFWAY THROUGH VIRIDIAN FOREST
Ash was walking calmly through the forest, according to his navigator on his XTranceiver, he would be in Viridian by the evening. Nothing special had happened uptil now except for a few encounters with wild and aggressive ratattas and pidgeys. All the battles were done by Growlithe to gain experience.
After walking for few more minutes, they came about a clearing in the forest. Ash decided to have their lunch there. He also thought that this will be a good time for him to check on the information on Pokedex on his Pokémon.
He sat down in the shade of a tree, with Growlithe sitting in front him. Ash took out his Pokedex and scanned Growlithe. Soon, a mechanical voice rang out through the clearing.
Growlithe, the Puppy Pokémon. While loyal to its master, the Growlithe will drive away enemies by barking and biting. This Growlithe is male and has the ability Flash Fire. It knows the moves Leer, Ember, Howl, Bite and Flame Wheel. It has an Egg Move, Fire Spin, which hasn't unlocked yet.
"Wow! You have quite the move set Growlithe! You are one strong Pokémon aren't you" said Ash as he rubbed Growlithe's head with his hand, earning a pleased purr from him.
"Let's see what my trainer Profile says" said Ash as he opened the profile page.
Name: Ashton B. Ketchum
Place of Origin: Pallet Town
Region: Kanto
Rank: E
Pokémon Registered: Metang, Gabite, Growlithe
Badges: N/A
Ash looked at his rank, it was something new. Previously about four years ago, there wasn't any such ranking system. Which led to fall in the number of really good trainers. So, the league decided to come up with a Ranking System to motivate the trainers to do better.
They even added monetary rewards on winning a battle. They also made it in a way that when you lose a battle. Not only do you lose points but also money. This motivated the trainers to do their best. Also, to support fair play, they made it such that when much higher ranked player challenges a much lower rank one and wins, then they get a bare minimum as a reward. Where on the other hand if the lower ranker wins, then he makes a fortune, the same amount of money made by the lower ranker in this case is lost by the higher ranker.
*RUSTLE* *RUSTLE*
Ash was bought out of his musings when he heard a rustle, he turned towards the bushes which seemed to be moving. Growlithe quickly got into stance as he heard the sound. Soon a Pokémon which was a mammalian, quadrupedal Pokémon with primarily brown fur. The tip of its bushy tail and its large furry collar were cream-colored. It had short, slender legs with three small toes and a pink paw pad on each foot. It had brown eyes, long pointed ears with dark brown interiors, and a small black nose.
"It's a Eevee! They are so rare to be found in the wild! Growlithe we are catching it! Get ready!" said Ash.
Growlithe soon positioned himself in front of the Eevee. The said Pokémon didn't appear to run, but instead fell into a battle stance.
"Growlithe use ember!"
Growlithe did as he was told a let the fire attack fire out of his mouth. The Eevee dodged the attack and ran towards Growlithe and tackled it. Growlithe winced in little pain but was mostly fine.
"That was Tackle! Now Growlithe move in a use Bite!"
Growlithe moved in but the Eevee disappeared in a quick motion and hit Growlithe in the side.
"It knows Quick Attack! But no more Growlithe let it come near you and then use Bite and finish it!" said Ash.
Growlithe waited for Eevee to move in for another Quick attack. Soon the Eevee came close for another quick attack when Growlithe pounced on her and used bite. The Eevee yelped in pain when Growlithe lifted her in his maw and threw her to the ground. The Eevee tried to get up..
"Now is the chance! Poke ball go!"
The poke ball hit the downed Pokémon and sucked it in. It fell down on the ground and started moving, once, twice, thrice... Ding!
"Yes!" Ash cheered seeing him catch his first Pokémon on his journey. Ash picked up the poke ball and took out his Pokedex and scanned the Poke ball.
Eevee, the Evolution Pokémon. Eevee is a unique Pokémon that can adapt to its environment by changing its form and abilities when evolving. This Eevee is Female and has the ability Adaptability. It knows the moves Tackle, Tail Whip, Growl, Helping Hand, Sand Attack, Quick Attack and Swift. It also has an Egg move, Curse, which isn't unlocked yet.
Ash then released the Eevee, it appeared in a white light and looked around before noticing her trainer. She tried to move but winced from the pain.
"Easy there, let me apply the potion first then, you can move" said Ash gently. The Eevee thought for a moment and then nodded her head. Ash took out a healing potion, knelt on one knee and applied at her injury, she winced in pain but soon the pain was gone entirely. Ash put away the potion and scratched the back of Eevee's ear, earning a pleased purr from her.
"Would you like to come with me Eevee? I promise to take care of you and help you become the strongest" said Ash gently. The Eevee didn't take too much time to think as she moved forward, stood on her hindlegs, placing her two paws on Ash's chest and licked his cheek.
"Eevui!"
"Heheheh, Thanks Eevee! You are best!" said Ash happily.
"Vui!"
Ash looked towards Eevee and saw her looking towards the sky, following her gaze he was graced with a beautiful sight. There was a rainbow, but caught Ash's attention, was the Pokémon that was flying over the rainbow,
Ash not recognizing the Pokémon, quickly took out his Pokedex and tried to scan it. He was successful when the metallic voice of the dex rang through the clearing,
Ho-Oh, the Rainbow Pokémon. Ho-Oh's feathers glow in seven colors depending on the angle at which they are struck by light. These feathers are said to bring happiness to the bearers. This Pokémon is said to live at the foot of a rainbow.
"Wow! I can't believe we saw a Ho-Oh!" exclaimed Ash. His Pokémon's agreeing with him as they let out their own cacophony of sounds letting him know that they were also surprised.
After seeing the mystical Pokémon disappear in the horizon, Ash turned to his Pokémon and said, "Lets meet the others, shall we?" he said.
Eevee yiped and jumped on Ash's shoulder, nuzzling into his cheeks. Ash let a small laugh and stroked her head. Ash then takes out the other two poke balls and throws them into the air.
"Metang! Gabite! Come on out!"
In a white flash both Metang and Gabite appeared in the field. Seeing Ash, Gabite moved forward and tubbed his face on Ash's chest, asking affections of him. Ash grins and pleasantly rubs Gabite's head. Metang hovers near the new Pokémon and lets a mechanical sound, as if introducing himself to them.
Gabite also notices the new Pokémon's and went ahead to introduce himself to them. Ash could see that both Growlithe and Eevee were surprised to see them. He went forward and stood beside both his older Pokémons, and addressed the new ones,
"Growlithe, Eevee meet Metang and Gabite. They are my oldest Pokémon and a part of our team. They will help you all to learn certain moves more easily than me. For e.g., Flamethrower in case of Growlithe. I hope all of you get along with each other. Now! Everyone gather around its time for lunch!" said Ash.
Soon after finishing their breakfast, they headed for the city. After travelling through the forest for another three or so hours they reached the outskirts of Viridian City. Ash had left Growlithe and Eevee out of their Poke balls so better bond with them. Eevee was perched on his shoulder, whereas Growlithe was walking beside him. As they made their way towards the city they were stopped by a shout.
"HALT!"
Ash turned around and saw an Officer Jenny walking towards them. She came and stood in front of him and said, "Who are you? Are you one of those Pokémon thieves we are hearing about?! Show me your I'd thief!" she said.
Ash gave her a deadpan expression. Here was a officer who was accusing him a fifteen year old child to be a Pokémon thief. Not accusing, downright calling him a thief, as she addressed him in her last sentence. Ash decided not to waste any words on her and sighed. He held his left hand up and opened his profile page on his XTransceiver and showed his id to her.
"Oh, sorry about that! Its just that there has been a lot of robberies going on, it had put us on the edge" she said sheepishly.
"No problem, Officer Jenny, I understand. You were after all doing your duty" said Ash with a smile, but he knew that the smile was strained at best.
Jenny offered him a ride to the Pokémon Centre, which he agreed instantly. After being dropped at the center by Jenny, Ash went to the desk where Nurse Joy was stationed.
"Good Evening Nurse Joy! Would you kindly look after my Pokémons" said Ash.
"Well of course Young man! Just place them here" Nurse Joy said, as she placed a tray in front of him.
Ash nodded and turned towards his two companions, he picked their pokeballs and returned them, and along with Metang's and Gabite's poke balls, placed them on the tray.
"Would you book a room for the night?" asked Joy.
"Yes, for the night only. I have to catch a flight tomorrow morning for Jubilife City in Sinnoh" said Ash.
Nurse Joy then told Ash that she would call for him through the microphone when his Pokémon were all healed. In the meantime, she asked him to relax in his room. Ash took the keys from her and settled in his room. Seeing that he had nothing to do, Ash decided to call mom. He took out his Xtranceiver and dialed his mother's number. A screen appeared in front of him.
"Ash! It's good to hear from you! Have you reached Viridian?" Delia asked.
"Yes mom, I have reached Viridian just an hour ago. I got settled in the Pokémon center and called you. My Pokémons are with Nurse Joy for healing" Ash replied.
"Oh! Good! Have you caught any knew Pokémon?" Delia asked
"Yes, matter of fact it was an Eevee! I also received a Growlithe from the Professor" said Ash.
"Wonderful Baby! You are doing just fine!" Delia said.
After another few minutes of conversation both mother and son said their goodbyes and left the call. Ash then decided to call the Professor.
"Hello, Professor Oak's Lab" came a wise old voice of the Professor.
"Hello, Professor it's me! Ash!" he replied.
The screen lit up and Professor Oaks face came in the view. He was smiling brightly at the young man. "Ash my boy! Its good to hear from you! I hope you reached Viridian without any trouble" Professor Oak asked.
"Without any problems Professor, I in fact caught an Eevee!" said Ash.
"Oh! Eevee are quite rare in the wild my boy. You were very lucky" said Professor Oak.
"Thanks Professor, by the way you wouldn't believe what I saw today, matter of fact I am sending the data over to you, see for yourself" said Ash with a smirk.
Professor Oak was intrigued and as soon as the data arrived, he saw it. Ash had to bite his inner cheek from refraining himself from laughing. Professor Oak's facial expressions were damn funny. Professor Oak then turned towards the screen and said, "My boy! This is..! I cannot believe it! You are damn lucky you know that!" he exclaimed.
Ash chuckled at the Professor's antics. It was then he heard the announcement through the mike calling him to gather his Pokémons. Ash said goodbye to the Professor and headed towards the reception. After collecting his Pokémons, Ash returned to his room.
Letting all of them out, Ash placed himself on the bed. Eevee snuggled herself near his chest, whereas Growlithe took the end of the bed. Gabite leaned against the bed after sitting down. Metang continued to float across the room.
The next morning, after a sound sleep, Ash headed for the Airport. All his Pokémon except Eevee decided to spend time in their balls. Eevee was hesitant, so Ash allowed her to remain outside. She was even allowed on the airplane.
Ash checked in the Airport and boarded the plane. Soon the plane took off and Ash could see the mainland of Kanto getting smaller and smaller as time went by
After taking off and going some distance, Ash looked out of the window. Eevee was comfortably resting on his lap. He looked out towards the horizon and thought,
'Sinnoh here comes Ash Ketchum!'
WELL, there goes the first chapter of the story. This is my first Pokémon fanfic, so if I make any mistake with moves or other such stuff, please be gentle. I am open for constructive criticism.
Regarding the region, I thought of doing something different. I have a general storyline in my mind, so I hope you all would like it as I continue to pen it down.
Ash here would be Truely strong, but only when he reaches the conference. I will try to make Ash's progress as realistic as possible.
Another thing, this will not follow cannon, as you might have already deduced. Neither will it follow the Game. So, yeah deal with it.
There won't be any limit to the number of moves learnt by Pokémon in this fanfic. Ash will catch both cannon as well as non-cannon Pokémons.
So, I will see you on my next update, which I hope would as fast as possible. I also have two other stories to focus on, so be a little patient.
I hope all you like it, let me know through the comments. Favs and Follows would be extra motivation to write more and better.
Until next time then!
