"It should have been you."

Those five words rang in Hizashi's ear like a mantra; striking a chord in his freshly broken heart. Tears welled up as the blond struggled to choke out his next few words. "Wh-What are you talking about Sho?"

"It should have been you. I know you have hearing aids but I didn't think you were stupid. It. Should. Have. Been. You." the raven-haired boy growled, fists grasping at empty air. Eyes glowed red, fresh tears running down his face as he glared at the taller boy. "You just had to open your fucking mouth, didn't you? I thought you knew better than to just scream at the enemy. I mean, seriously Yamada, what the fuck was running through that empty head of yours?"

Hizashi inhaled sharply, feeling a sticky warmth trail down his face; a sharp contrast to the cold, steady beating from the rain surrounding the two boys. "I-I….That's what my agency was told to do...Sho, it-"

"DON'T CALL ME THAT." Shouta interrupted, his whole body shaking with anger. "Friends get to call me that. Last time I checked, I wasn't friends with any murderers." That last word coming out with a hiss. "You never think before you act, ever. How many times have our teachers got on your ass about that?"

"I-I-"

"No. You get to just run your fucking mouth anytime you want; it's my turn to speak. Maybe if you actually shut the fuck up for once, people could actually tolerate you. I mean, did you honestly think that Oboro wanted to be friends with you? You were just his pity project that he kept around to boost his ego. He was one of the few people decent to you and you turn around and kill him. Were you jealous?" The darker-haired teen spat out, all his anger and pain now pouring out with every word.

"J-Jealous? I wasn't trying to get anyone hurt I-I was just trying to take down the villain!" Hizashi cried out, taking a step back from Shouta. "I was just doing what I thought was right!"

"And you just had to take out my best friend? In what world would they let you, a literal mistake of existence, live while someone like Oboro die? It's just not fair that you get to live a long happy life while he never gets to take another breath again. You're so fucking pitiful, Yamada; seeing you disgusts me!" Shouta snapped, quirk activated as he slowly inched closer to Hizashi's retreating form. "I honestly wished that you would have died, it's not like you would have been missed. Your parents certainly wouldn't."

Another pang ran through Hizashi's heart as his now ex-friend reminded him of his recent….situation. A few weeks ago, the blond had come out to his parents, only to be kicked out that night. A quick phone call to Nemuri gave him a temporary home, but Hizashi didn't want to bother his upperclassman any longer than he needed to. He could only give out choked sobs as the other continued to tear down every bit of confidence he had; helpless as every insecurity was reiterated.

"I mean, did you honestly think one of us would like you? That we cared? That we loved you? Nemuri only helped you because once again, you're the pity project for our year. Oboro had to bribe her to help because we all know you would whine and cry until someone else came along, since you're too incompetent to handle something on your own!"

It was with those words that led to Hizashi being on the ground, wailing. Shouta grunted; a loud slap being heard despite the heavy rain, as he shook his now stinging hand. "Will you fucking get it together?! It was your own fault, you don't deserve to cry over him. Just pray that Oboro won't be too vengeful because I'm not done with you. The world is going to know what a monster you really are." Shouta huffed, his quirk deactivating as Hizashi stumbled up.

"You're lucky I have to go with Nemuri to the station, but keep watch, Yamada."

The smaller teen turned, slowly walking away to the police station. The green-eyed boy quickly bolted in the other direction, his stomach feeling as though an entire theme park was inside. He didn't get far before emptying his body out, more tears falling as a result. His heart was heavy with the pain of losing not just one friend that day; his brain working overtime as he tried to figure out his next move. One thing was for certain though; Hizashi would never forget that day, no matter how Shouta apologized and begged for forgiveness years later.
