Five years ago.
Her life was shit. Correction: Her life is shit. She gets by every day doing whatever is needed, rather than desired. She thinks a lot but she'll never share her thoughts, because who is there to listen? She's probably such a great person but no one will ever know, because who is there to observe? She makes small talk with her coworkers when the situation arises because nothing really is that significant. Everyone in her life came and left. Nobody loves her. Nobody cared to even know her. She is the white crayon that no one wanted or needed. She is… nothing.
Her father left when she was two and god knows where he is now. Her best friend Sadie married a guy and is living her best life in the UK. Her first boyfriend promised her the world just to leave her for a bitch with boobs twice the size of hers. Her mother- just died.
She thought for a few seconds wondering if she should carry on with her thoughts. Fuck it. The woman's dead and never gave a crap about her.
Well, her mother only ever cared about one thing and it was, drumroll please, surgery. Five-year-old Meredith fell onto the concrete ground after losing her grip on the Monkey bars? Mother too busy to care. Seven-year-old Meredith wanted a new action figure? "You've got Anatomy Jane." Twelve-year-old Meredith got her first period having no clue how to take care of the situation? "You're a big girl Meredith. You'll be fine." Got accepted into one of the top 10 universities in the country? Got accepted into medical school? Got a job at one of the best teaching hospitals in the nation? Well, you're just fucking ordinary Meredith. Anything but extraordinary.
Now she's on her way to the airport back to Seattle. She just finished making arrangements for her mother's burial in Boston. Back to Seattle. Back to work, as usual. This was just another sign that the universe hates her. She hasn't spoken to her mother in years. Ellis Grey was in her late 50's. No one expected her death to be this sudden.
Meredith sighs. Another person leaving her that was never really a part of her life anyway.
a/n: Hi, yes I am starting another story. This one is a little dark but I promise it gets better. I am thrilled to share this with you and I am excited to hear your responses as the story progresses. I already have most of the plot developed so this fic will be completed before my other story, "Seattle Bound." See you in the next chapter!
