NO! Sunny couldn't believe it. He had seen John's face as he walked along the hospital corridor to see Cass after he and the team had finally solved the Matthew Walsh murder case. The look on John's face was a mixture of grief and, for some strange reason, concern. Why, Sunny didn't know.

"When?" Sunny choked out to John. "When did she go?!"

"Ten minutes ago. The crash caused irrecoverable brain damage, doctors said she would never wake up as before." John said as he placed a hand onto Sunny's shoulder.

Sunny collapsed onto a chair in despair. Ten minutes! Fucking ten minutes and he missed her. He looked up and took a shaking breath.

" Did she... Was she in pain?" he asked.

" No, she wasn't but she did leave something for you. It was at the house so I gather she wrote it last time she was there."

John handed Sunny an envelope with his name on in Cass' neat, flowing handwriting. Sunny took it with shaking hands and put it in his bag. He stood up and offered his hand to John.

"I know that you made her very happy. As her friend, thank you" said Sunny.

Sunny - to my friend. That's all it said on the front. Sunny turned the envelope round and opened the flap. He drew the paper out and opened it, glanced at the words and clapped a hand to his mouth.

"It can't be! Why didn't she tell me?!" he screamed inside his head.

Sunny,

I know that if you're reading this, then I'm looking down on you. I couldn't tell you this to your face, I was... Am afraid of what you would say to me. So I'll just have to say it this way.

I love you. I love you so much, it hurts. Since that day you joined the team, I saw you walking through the doors with that backpack, my heart leapt into my throat. I never did believe in love at first sight but you changed that.

Sunny, your name did it to my life. You became the sunshine to warm me up. Every case, every bad thing that happened to me, you helped me get through it.

Before you even think it, yes John did know about my feelings for you and he encouraged me to tell you before it was too late. Well, guess it is too late.

Just seen the clock, better go before I'm late for work. I'll see you soon and remember, it's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

Forever yours in your heart,

Cassie. Xxxx

This is just a one shot to start a multi chapter story! Next time... Cass has died... Or has she?
