Hero!Mayura AU
Nathalie loved ice skating, a passion she had picked up as a young child. Now as an adult she tried to make it a priority from time to time. Phillipe, needing the business, agreed to let his rink be rented out on Tuesday mornings. After a few of the early mornings, he eventually gave her a key to the rink and said she was allowed to use it whenever it wasn't rented out for a different private event. Nathalie thanked him for his generosity and did enjoy the rink some other times. He changed his daily fees to a fee at the end of the month, she would pay for the additional time she used the rink, although he never requested she did so.
Her superheroine identity, Mayura, also had quite the passion for ice dancing. In her upgraded state, her skirt feathered all the way instead of just in the back, but her brooch remained situated on her chest. The dress was also fitted tighter. Her typically plain bun was changed to a nicer-looking braided updo and her headpiece changed to a feather pin that held her hairdo together. A sparkly black belt that formed across her waist was made to hold her fan which was nice as she hated constantly having to hold her fan.
Gabriel Agreste knew his assistant ice skated every Tuesday. It was something that intrigued him for a reason he was unsure of. Transforming into his villainous form of Hawkmoth, he snuck through a window of the ice rink. Instead of seeing Nathalie skating gracefully across the ice, he saw the blue heroine whom his akumatized villains fought on a nearly daily basis. Why would Nathalie cover for the superhero? Then Gabriel realized that of course, she would, she didn't know that Gabriel was Hawkmoth or that her allegiance was misplaced.
About to crash her practice he stopped as he watched her spin. She was undeniably graceful, although often insufferable. For a moment he forgot why he came here and who he was, who they were. In any other world, he would have made a move on the majestic ice dancer. In this world though, they were enemies, their identity unknown to each other, so he watched her jump, spin, and flip for another brief moment before he left.
It was dangerous, stupid even, but he knew when and where she went on patrol. A dumb idea was all he had to meet her though. He landed quietly behind her and wrapped his arms around her giving away his presence.
"You're quite beautiful on the ice," he whispered into her ear.
Mayura gasped but stomped on his foot. This loosened his grip around her. She was able to turn around and punch the villain in the face.
"I would have accepted a thank you," he groaned, rubbing his face surprised to feel no blood.
"Why are you here?" Mayura asked, taking a defensive stance.
"I can't compliment my favorite peahen?"
"No! How did you even know I ice skate? You're stalking me aren't you?!"
"No, I was looking for someone else but I found you there instead."
Mayura's breathing stopped, had Hawkmoth been looking for Nathalie? Did they know each other in real life? Did Hawkmoth already know who she was? She tried to brush away her fears.
"You know, you are really beautiful, I would love it if you were on the right side," Hawkmoth smirks and tries to step closer to Mayura.
Mayura took the opportunity to slap the villain, "you don't know a thing about me."
"I know you're feisty and a great ice skater."
Mayura tried to hide a purple blush, "that doesn't mean anything."
"Are you going to be there again next week? I can meet you there."
"Why should I believe you? This could just be some trap to steal my miraculous."
"I assume that means I'll see you next Tuesday, darling," Hawkmoth winked and was gone.
Mayura stood there still flustered by the villain and very concerned that her identity, if not already known, was in great jeopardy. He had to know Nathalie in real life but that seemed impossible, only the Agreste's and Phillipe knew she skated on Tuesday mornings. It couldn't have been any of them, it just didn't make sense. Feeling like she lacked a choice in the matter she knew that she had to be prepared for anything.
Next Tuesday, she made sure to enter the rink as Mayura, hoping that Hawkmoth didn't know she was Nathalie. Before she had the chance to consume her ice power-up, she realized that Hawkmoth was already on the ice. It didn't look like he had the power-up but he was still great on the ice. Coming over to her, he stuck a rose in her hair that was colored a blue and purple swirl.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"Thanking you for showing up," he shrugged.
"If I didn't know any better I would say the villain is falling in love with the hero," Mayura smirked.
Ignoring the comment that he found ridiculous he asked, "where are your skates?"
Mayura gave a small smile as she revealed a light blue grape that had been infused with the ice power-up.
"Stupid heroes with your stupid power-ups," he grumbled.
Mayura knew she might regret it but gave another one of the ice power-ups she had to the villain.
He tried not to think of the possibility that the grape was actually poisoned as he swallowed it. He watched as his gloves vanished. His purple top had long sleeves that faded to black while his pants turned a dark gray. Lastly, his bald cap disappeared though it left behind his purple irises and platinum blonde hair that was slicked back.
Mayura did a few quick laps on the ice before she began a routine that she had well-practiced and memorized. Hawkmoth hated to admit it but he was absolutely mesmerized. He reminded himself why he was doing this, for the woman he loved. If he got close to the heroine, she could help him. He should have just wanted to take her down but some part of him wanted the lady's trust.
"They would never expect it, you and me," he said as he began skating next to her.
"They wouldn't expect it because it will never happen," Mayura told him.
"You and I would have enough power to take over the world, that doesn't intrigue you at all?"
"No, when I was given my miraculous," Mayura added some stress on the word 'given' emphasizing how Hawkmoth stole his, "I was given a great amount of responsibility and it's my job to protect the city from you."
Hawkmoth kissed her cheek and smirked when Mayura immediately blushed purple but she lost her balance and he ended up tripping over her.
"I'll see you later then, my beautiful peahen," he said, helping her back onto her feet.
Hawkmoth leaped away and Mayura was left a blushing mess.
"I hate him!" she groaned but she was becoming less sure if that was the truth. Mayura took the rose from her hair before she detransformed. She couldn't be falling in love with a villain, it was worse than falling in love with a man still in love with his deceased wife. It was too late though because she had already fallen on the ice.
