Hello everyone! And welcome to one of my newest stories. After being inspired by other "Elder Scroll" themed stories such as "The Lone Dragonborn" and "A Lost Bloom in the Snow", I wanted to make my own take on an Elder Scroll story
But as you read the story, along with my previous one, I'm a huge fan of the Isekai genre
If some of you don't already know, Isekai loosely translates too "another world", where our protagonist (a normal person from Earth) being transported, reincarnated, reborn, or trapped in a fantasy world or another plain through mysterious means. The story usually does follow the main hero adapting or assimilate into this new world with it's own set of rules, cultures, currencies and even philosophies.
This genre is used by a number of mangas, anime, video games, even movies like the Monster Hunter movie. Some other examples (my personal favourites) include: The Rising Of The Shield Hero, Overlord, Re Zero, Re: Creators, Konosuba, Sword Art Online (Season 1), That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime, and even Digimon
And yes, writing this story will take a bit of attention away from Titan Shifters. The thing is, I haven't written up the next chapter due to "writers block". Not only that, I'm doing a Godzilla and Kong movie marathon, so that would be a good opportunity to get some fresh ideas
As for inspirations for this story: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime and Sword Art Online
Now, It's important to note that various quest-lines (Companions and College of Winterhold), along with various side quests (Hold Quests) will be scattered in between the main quest line. So, don't expect Dragon's Rising to appear straight after Bleak Falls Barrow.
Also, I've divided the Dawnguard DLC and Dragonborn DLC in their own separate arcs. I mean, you have to solve the Dragon crisis first before anything else happens
Alright, I think you're all eager to start reading. So I won't delay you even further
Earth, Toronto, Orphanage (My POV)
When you normally think or talk about a new year, many things come to mind. Rather it be setting multiple New Years Revloutions for an all new you, granting new opportunities and experiences such as jobs or hobbies. But there are some that are looking forward to their favourite releases.
But...fuck all of that down the drain I guess, because the gutter spat the very same shit out and it struck the fan! If you thought the year 2016 was terrible, then that doesn't compare with what happened in 2020! First, was the death of multiple celebrities, then the various riots across the United States and Canada, and finally was the spread of a virus!
In just a few short months, the virus spread across the globe like wildfire...because people can't seem to stop traveling! But shortly after, most of the world was put into lockdown, with only the most essential places being kept open such as grocery stores, repair shops, various construction sites, and for some reason...fast food restaurants
And that does include the schools and colleges, forcing them to find and alternative way to teach us. I should probably start over, my name is Brandon Lawson, but my friends call me Shin. I got the nickname was because that was the word I used as my gamer tag and as time went on, my friends would call me that frequently rather than my actual name, so...that's how I got it.
I'm sixteen years old, and for the past year, I've been stuck at home because of quarantine, only going out to do grocery shopping or work at McDonalds...we all need to earn an income before college. Believe me, tuition can be a bitch!
As for school, there are online classes, but I do tend to skip some of them just to do my own things. Now, this may sound something good...but its not! Ever since quarantine, it's just been me and my mom...and by dad unfortunately passed away due to some complications
And with mom busy at work all the time, I pretty much have the entire apartment to myself. But there is one thing missing...a friend. Not a girl frined, but someone you could hang out with in real life. I mean sure, the only people I've ever met are on the other side of the screen...and they live on the other side of the world!
Then again, I've always been kind of a loner. I avoided people like they were zombies...even before the pandemic. But now, ever since a year stuck in quarantine, I kind of miss people. It would be nice to see a familiar face, or even any face is fine.
It was currently Friday morning, day...three-hundred and...whatever days indoors. Playing World of Warcraft, leaning tower of various pizza boxes...and a case of Voltage Mountain Dew right beside me
Where's my pride?...nowhere
And my dignity, long gone
And I don't even want to get started on the last part, but it's totally justifiable
I guess in my younger years, I guess I wanted someone to hang out with, ask for them to come over like a get-together...play some video games...maybe share a few laughs
I guess this desperation came from my mother, who's pretty much at work for eighty-percent of the day. So, it's up to me to make sure things get easier, such as making dinner or even cleaning the apartment. Rather that, or I'm just a shut in, just like my dad was for most of his life.
Maybe I could come over to my friends place and visit them if they lived by. Maybe then, I'd finally be a member of a cool, functional group of people...no offence to my mom
*KNOCK* *KNOCK*
But, before I could continue my thoughts any further, I suddenly got a knock at the door
"Huh, I wasn't expecting anyone" I muttered, as I got up and walked to the door "Maybe, my mom's back from work early...actually...that one is unlikely" I muttered, as I opened the door, revealing a person wearing a brown uniform, a black mask and a big brown box in his hands
It was a delivery man...well...one of the ones that are still working
Wait...I thought it got delayed in shipment...I guess not
"Uh, hello. I'm looking for a..." He trailed off as he looked at the shipping label "Brandon Lawson, do you know him?"
"Yeah. He's me" I deadpanned
"Oh, uh, great!" The delivery man stumbled as he handed the package towards me and pulled out a small clipboard "Please sign here"
I took the clipboard from his hands and signed my name on the paper and handed it back to him "Thank you, have a great day!"
"You as well" I said, as I closed the door behind me
I then walked over to the kitchen, placed the brown package on the counter and pulled a knife from the drawer. I then cut the tape on top of the package as the lids flew open. As I removed the plastic peanuts and the bubble wrap from the box, I was smiling like an idiot
What I got, was the game: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. I recently got drawn into the series when quarantine came into affect...mainly because I was dying of sheer boredom. But, I guess I have to thank my boredom in this case. You see, I had played the previous instalment, the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. And to put it simply, I fell in love with the game, it's lore, its story, its various quests and the series in general!
So, it would only make sense for me to buy the next instalment...despite it being out for over nine years...
So, I immediately got the plastic wrap off and threw the plastic wrap into a plastic bag. However, I kept the box on the counter because my mom tends to use them when planting seeds. She LOVES gardening...which explains the amount of plants she has the porch.
It's basically the only kind of relief she has, so I do my best to make sure that they're watered and get enough sun every single day.
As I opened the case cover and took the disc out, I turned on the TV and booted up the PS4 in the main room. The main room consisted of a flat-screen TV, a table in the centre of the room, three couches just behind the table, and a white carpet
However...with it being a "new" game, the PS4 had to actually download all the content first before I can actually start paying the game
So, to pass the time, I turned the wifi off on my phone and turned my data on. I began to search up various things before I started playing the game...without spoiling anything. I was mainly searching up how to increase various skills faster, because from what Oblivion told me...NEVER face the final boss under-levelled. So, I of course, have to do various side quests first before finishing the main quest-line
...Those memories still haunt me to this day
But, I wanted my first play to be a bit more..."enjoyable" if that's the right word to put it. So, I also used that time to search up various mods, but only ones that match up to the games lore...so NO lightsabers! What I did instead, was to add mods that improved gameplay. Such as added perks to the skill tree, a player home, and even additional dialogue for various NPCs.
Let's see...
Dragons Blood Castle... Better than paying five-thousand gold for a home
Limitless Enchantments Mod...only achievable at level 100 enchanting... Yeah, I'll take it
Disenchant Anything...Hell yes please! Having an awesome enchantment on a crappy weapon is possibly the awesomest/dumbest thing!
More Draconic Dragon Aspect Mod...sure, I'll take it, whatever that is
Beyond Skyrim...Yeah, I could explore all of Tamriel when I finish the main game!
As I finished downloading the set of mods I had listed, I was about to close off the mod page...that is, until another mod caught my eye. One reason was because that this mod had a total of zero downloads! It didn't even have a single review...and it's been out for at least five years
Curious, I clicked on the mod page and began to read its description. Apparently, this was called a "Skyrim Overhaul", and by the title itself, it was a complete overhaul of the game itself! It's adds more choices, more dialogues that adds actual character to the NPCs, and better factions.
Like I said, I didn't read any spoilers involving the main quest-line of the game. So all I know is what happened in the trailer, a person fighting a mother-fucking dragon!
Getting back on track, besides from what I said, it also looks like it improved the gameplay, controls, and graphics significantly, almost as if you're "in the game itself"
.
That's the mods words, not mine
.
.
.
.
You know what, let's give it a shot!
I shrugged as I downloaded that mod as well, and deleted my the old dialogue mod. I then closed off the mod page as I scrolled down to the "NEW GAME" icon, and pressed the "X" button. It immediately took me to a loading screen, depicting some sort of Black Dragon sitting on-top of a wall that appeared to have ancient carving.
Other than the player level bar on the upper right side, there was also a small passage:
And the Scrolls have foretold, of black wings in the cold. That when brothers wage war come unfurled! Alduin, Bane of Kings, ancient shadow unbound, with a hunger to swallow the world!"
- Song of the Dragonborn
Alduin? Bane of Kings?
Seems to me like loading screens are more of a bane to everyone. But in all serious note, is he the black dragon on the screen? And what's a "Dragonborn"?
I suddenly heard my stomach gurgle as it started to clench slightly. I looked at the time to see that it was now 5:00 PM "Oh...I must've forgotten about lunch" I muttered as I got up and left the main room and headed back into the kitchen
I opened up the fridge and grabbed one of the two-remaining Red-bulls and two slices of leftover pizza, then shoved it in the microwave. I set the microwave for two minutes as I leaned onto the counter
As I waited for the microwave to go off, I had the strange feeling of chills going up my spine...almost as if someone or something was watching me. Whatever it was, I couldn't shake it, but I guess it's just adrenaline or something
I eventually shrugged it off, and took a sip of my drink
"Dovahkiin" A voice whispered in my ear
The sudden voice made me jump off the counter, causing me to stumble forwards and almost choke on my drink. I whipped my head around to see if anyone was nearby. After a few seconds, I started to calm down, taking deep and slow breaths in the process
"It...must've been the TV" I muttered to myself, as the microwave went off "I really should keep the volume down on that thing"
I quickly grabbed my leftover pizza ans what remained of my Red-Bull and headed back towards the main toom, grabbed the controller, and sat back down in the chair. By the time I came back, I missed the main introduction into the game and was now at the character's customization screen
And in-case you didn't know, character customization speaks for itself. Like in any RPG game, you can choose your character's race, giving them specific characteristics such as scars, skin colour, eye colour, hair colour...or no hair, etc.
Usually when people play RPG games such as the Elder Scrolls, some would choose a humanoid race such as Nords, Redguards, Imperials and even Elves. Now, character choosing is crucial as it will impact how you play. Each race has its own set of abilities and stats. Nords for example can let out a mighty battle cry, intimidating foes. While High Elves can regenerate their Magicka faster than any other race
I on the other hand, choose the more "beast-man" kind of race. One is the Khajiit, a cat-like race and the other are the Argonians, a reptile-like race. Like Oblivion, I chose the Argonian race as the race for my avatar.
In-case you didn't know, Argonians have the ability to heal themselves from the "Hist", can breathe underwater, and has a fifty-percent resistance to any and all poisons, including Sanguinare Vampiris, a disease that can turn your avatar into a vampire!
Not only that...I always had a soft spot for reptiles. I don't know what it was, but maybe it had to do with my interest in Jurassic Park, or even Godzilla.
After several minutes of scrolling. selecting, and button pressing, I had finished customizing my Argonian avatar!
My Argonian avatar was primary dark-green in colour, with a tan and ridged underside spanning from his torso, all the way to the underside of his tail. I had also given him small, purple, triangular spike the traveled from his head, down his back, and all the way to his tail. This was meant to be a small nod to two purple dragons
I had also made sure that he wasn't too bulky, while also making sure he wasn't too skinny. A bit of balance in between. I had also given his large, yelloe eyes with human-like pupils instead of reptile-like pupils
Next was fo course to give my avatar a name. And as before, I'm going to use my nickname "Shin". I don't know why, but it sounded right, it sounded like an actual characters name than a generic gamer name.
I grabbed the controller once more, and began to type the name "Shin" on screen and pressed enter. But as I did...to my shock and horror the TV had shut itself off.
"I shout up from my chair "Hey!? What gives!?" I yelled as I approached the TV and tried to turn it on once more, only for nothing to happen "Don't tell me another circuit fried! We have enough problems as it is!"
I moved the TV to it's side, looking behind it for any signs of a spark and thankfully, there wasn't
But, I might as well unplug the TV and PS4, just to be safe
I placed my hand on the back of the PS4, trying to unplug the HDMI cord and the plug from the TV. "Mom's defiantly not going to be about-GAH!" I shouted, as a jolt of pain traveled up my arm.
I quickly grabbed my arm in pain, accidentally bumping into the table, knocking over the can of Red-Bull. But before I could grab the falling can...only for it to stop mid-air...and even the contents that were spilling out stopped in mid-air as well
"What...the...fuck?" I muttered, as I bent down and picked up the floating can.
As I grabbed the can, the lights in the apartment began to flicker on and off. Suddenly, the TV flashed itself on, and began to flash very bright colours on the screen. Catching me off guard, I dropped the can as I shielded my eyes from the sudden light.
I was so focused on the light, that I didn't even noticed a deep and rumbling sound that was coming from it. Thinking it was nothing more than a technical error, I made my way towards the TV, pulled the back out and forcibly pulled the TV's plug from the outlet, forcing itself to turn itself off after loosing it's source of power
I began to breathe heavily as I backed up from th TV, all the while keeping my eyes on it, looking for any signs of sparks
.
.
.
After several minutes of breathing heavily and nothing happening, I even calmed myself down just enough to sit back down on one of the three couches as I started to comprehend what just happened. I stared back towards my spilled energy drink can and was now staining the carpet
"Great..." I muttered "Now I have to clean THIS up and explain THAT to mom!"
But...maybe that shock messed with my head, that would explain the floating can!
But just as I was about to get back up, the TV flashed on once more! This time, the colours were flashing much brighter than they were before and at an abnormal pace. Sparks suddenly started to fly across the corners of the TV, but quickly diminished before they touched the carpet
B-BUT I UNPLUGGED THE DAMN THING! HOW IN THE HELL-!?
My train of thought was cut off...when my right arm felt extremely numb. I slowly opened my eyes to see that my right arm began to dissolve into tiny, black particles that were immediately sucked into the TV. I could only scream out in horror as the entirety of my right arm was sucked into the TV
Out of panic, I quickly began to run from the main room, only for my left leg to go numb as well. I fell to the ground with a loud thud as I groaned in pain. I looked over to what i was expecting my leg, only for it to dissolve into black particles just like my arm
"HELP! SOMEONE HELP!" I began to yell at the top of my lungs, hoping that at least my neighbours could brak the door down and hear my cries for help. Then, my other leg began to go numb as it dissolved into black particles and sucked into the TV
The only pieces of my body were left was my left arm, my torso, and my head. I desperately began to crawl at the ground, trying to get away from whatever was happening to me! Whatever it was, it didn't hurt in anyway, but that doesn't mean that something else is waiting for me at the other side!
Eventually, I finally made my way towards the door. I then began to reach towards the door knob in an attempt to twist it...only for it to go numb as well. And just like both of my legs and my rght arm, it dissolved into black particles and was sucked into the TV
All that remained of me was my head and toro...and I couldn't really do anything up to that point...both of my arms and legs were gone...so my head and torso were next. Part of my face and chest felt numb soon after...I could see apart of my face start to dissolve into black particles as well
It didn't hurt...none of it did...I guess I was just too scared. All I could o was lay motionless on the ground as a single tear trailed down on what remained of my cheek. my vision then started to grow dark...but efore I completely lost conscious...I heard some sort of deep laugh...almost as if something found this amusing
Then...nothingness
Yeah...I had to go with "Get sucked into a TV cliche!". But hey, I wanted to with something different rather than "dying then being reincarnated" route
Also, I know that this chapter is too short compared to my other stories. But this is just the introduction chapter, the main game itself will start in the next one
However, there are sometimes where I'm bad at giving character descriptions, especially for OCs. So as a precaution, I had to use Hero Forge to make my avatar. And considering I can't post any links, I can at least tell you its on my imgur account of the same name
Oh, and I changed this story from a normal crossover, to a standalone story.
