(A/N: Tag from 2x01. How did Clark react to Jimmy talking with him about Kara? I know Clark was so sweet and supportive in the episode, but what may have transpired behind the scenes? We've seen how protective he is of Kara)
Clark's pov
I was hanging out at my apartment in Metropolis, when I heard a knock at the door. I was walking to the door already, but turned to it with my glasses off, using my x-ray vision to see that my friend Jimmy was the one who was at the door. I haven't seen him since he transferred out of the Daily Planet and Metropolis to work at CatCo in National City, since I had asked him to keep an eye on my cousin Kara. I was as supportive as I was protective. Or maybe I was a little more one than the other, depends on who you ask. Smiling, I put my glasses back on and opened the door
"Jimmy!"
He smiled
"Hey, Clark."
We then did our usual handshake greeting and I led him inside the apartment, promptly shutting the door and setting my glasses on the table. There was no reason to wear them around my friend, and I really tried not to wear them above the necessary. We settled with some snacks and soda, and I asked
"So, not that I'm not thrilled to see you, but what brings you back over? Everything ok in National City? Kara ok?"
I might have just imagined it, but I thought I heard his heart speed up nervously. His face quickly molded into a relaxed smile, but I still was a bit weary of the uptick I had heard from his pulse
"Everything is fine, Kara is fine... but I have to talk to you about something and please don't kill me."
If he had resorted to begging me not to kill him, something was up and it was not going to be pretty. I sighed
"Am I going to like this conversation?"
Jimmy sighed
"Probably not."
I was nervous and curious
"Oh boy. Just tell me."
To see one of my closest friends take a deep breath and actually step away from me was a bit concerning, to say the least. Finally, he forced the words out
"I'm falling for Kara."
I laughed
"THIS is what you were so afraid of telling me? James, that's awesome. She's really sweet. I've met her a few times, the redhead in Marketing at CatCo, right?"
His face turned many different shades in under a minute.
"No, the blonde Kryptonian who is Cat's assistant, and your cousin..."
Next thing I knew, I had crumpled the metal candy bowl in my hand as if it were a piece of paper. James took notice of that and winced. I was trying to get a handle of my breathing, remembering he was a good man, my friend, and that also maybe Kara wouldn't even feel the same way, so I really didn't even have that much of a chance to have to worry. Maybe. Hesitantly, the photographer spoke
"Clark? You ok?"
I slowly let go of what remained of the bowl and looked at him
"I will be. I know you won't hurt her. But it's just hard."
He nodded
"I understand that. That's why I didn't want to blindside you."
I managed a smile
"Thanks. I know, the family dynamics are weird, I treat her like a younger cousin, though she's technically not while she technically is at the same time... stupid phantom zone complicating my life."
Chuckling at the last statement, Jimmy spoke
"Something tells me you'd be just as protective even if she were always the older one."
I had to let out a chuckle
"True. Hope it all works out."
And, surprisingly, by the end of our conversation, I actually meant what I said. I'd be happy if things worked out for them. I at least knew him and he was a great guy. He wouldn't hurt her, and all I ever want is for Kara to be happy. If things are right with James, she'll know it.
