"What is this?" Mort asked, so surprised there was a quiver in his voice. "Friends with benefits?"

"Oh god no Mort! Stop." Seth's head snapped to look at him as he fixed his glasses and straightened his hair.

"Uh doc, it sure looks like friends with benefits."

"Well it's not, just stop while you're ahead." Seth said with a great degree of annoyance in his voice.

"Hey! I'm not the one making out with JB Fletcher in the kitchen against the cabinets before seven am!" At this point Jessica held her finger up to protest but put it down slowly when she realized that well, Mort was right. She couldn't dispute that. Neither really knew what to say to the sheriff and so the three of them just stood there with no sound for about 10 seconds which felt like 10 hours to Mort, who decided to break the silence.

"That's putting it plainly you guys just give me a moment to take this in."

"Really Metzger? Is it that shocking?" Seth asked.

"What do you mean? 'Is it that shocking?' Let's review, doc. Number one you've never kissed your best friend on the lips before. Number two, all I wanted was a cup of coffee and I walk in here to find two people I thought were just friends doing a little more than just having a kiss. Does that sum it up for you doc?"

"It was just a kiss for crying out loud!" Seth almost shouted. Jessica groaned out of annoyance and rolled her eyes.

"Doc maybe I'm not as much of an expert in that field but allow me to enlighten you that what you and Mrs F did does not qualify as just a kiss. I'm pretty sure the term for when your tongues are in each other's mouths is called-".

"You listen here-".Seth interrupted.

"Oh enough you two!" Jessica intervened. "Seth calm down and Mort stop you're making this sound so much more dirty than it was."

"You're right Mrs. F. I'm sorry."

"Damn straight." Seth said under his breath."

"Hell I wonder what the town will think." Mort asked. Seth looked at him dead in the eyes.

"They won't think anything because you will keep your mouth shut!" Seth sternly told him. Mort looked at him with a smile on his face trying to hold back laughter.

"Oh don't say it." Seth said, realizing how he had worded his last sentence.

"yeah I'll keep my mouth shut ...unlike you two!" He burst out laughing and Seth stood there looking at the ceiling with Jessica even trying to hold back a giggle.

"Mort, please this time just stay quiet about what you saw because…...well….putting it plainly, you weren't supposed to see that." Jessica explained.

"On my job Mrs F. I'll keep quiet for you."

"Thank you Mort." Seth said.

"Although I can't guarantee someone else already knows."

"And how would that happen?" Seth asked, putting his hands behind his back.

"I've been living in this town for way less time than you and how am I the one that knows that nothing no matter what it is stays a secret in the town? That's probably the real cause of death for half of the murders we get here. But I'll do my part and keep it quiet."

"Thanks. Would you still like that coffee or some breakfast?" Jessica asked.

"Thanks for the offer, but after seeing that I'm not so hungry anymore so, you two have a good day and I'll call if need be." Jessica rolled her eyes as Mort puton his hat and walked out the kitchen door.
