"Bakugo was apart of the attack. Bakugo had joined the league"

Shock couldn't begin to describe the feelings Midoriya felt in this moment. Kacchan was an incredible rival but never had the man been anything other than heroic. Except for all the bullying, tormenting, teasing, violence and rabid tendencies. Ok so maybe it wasn't so unbelievable, but Midoriya had idolized Kacchan in a similar way to All Might. Seeing his friend as anything close to evil was earth shattering.

"There has to be a mistake, Kacchan would never become a villain-" Midoriya begins. His hands are trembling at their sides, eyes frantically searching as his brain tries to reason the truth. Was Kacchan really capable of something like that?

"Bakugo was a part of the attack, young Midoriya. He used his quirk to take down the entire building. There were multiple hero's that reported his cooperation with the other villains. The school is going to continue searching for him as a missing student but if the public discovers what he's done, UA will have more than just his disappearance to worry about". All Might was grim in his delivery, placing a hand on Midoriya's shoulder. "For now we have to keep this between us, the other students must believe that Bakugo is just missing. The more people that know means more possibility of a leak."

Midoriya left All Might to return to class, head and shoulders hunched, almost as if he were in physical pain at the news. His admiration for Kacchan was well known, he wanted to match his rival and be the best heros they could be. In his mind he could hear Kacchan yelling at him to quit his bitching and crying, throwing in a few more insults and 'nicknames'. Kacchan had never been nice in the traditional sense, but he wasn't evil.

The day moved along at a snail's pace. Everything felt far away, like it was underwater. The motions of going from class to class, training with his fellow classmates, eating and pretending everything was ok became numbingly mundane; it made Midoriya feel Kacchan's absence like a weight. By the time he was finally sent home, Midoriya had felt physically drained, his skin must've turned grey from the grief and sadness he was feeling. He walked along the cherry blossom trees, noting that Kacchan had always charged past them, focused on wherever he was headed, while he would wander, admiring their beauty. They don't look beautiful now, despite the flowering blossoms. The trees were drooping and bland. Warping under the summer heat. He noticed the whole world appeared that way. Bitterly he thought Kacchan must be causing it somehow. The heat of his quirk was coming back just like Kacchan, except both of them were evil. In fact when he looked between the trees it was almost as if he could make out the man's silhouette…

Midoriya continues to walk his path home lost in thought, while Kacchan watches from behind the trees.

His mother dotes on him as he settles in for dinner. He wishes he could tell her what he'd discovered but All Might's words ring through his mind. He asks to eat alone.

The walk to his room is somber, and he can't help but think he's going to feel like this for a long time. Maybe forever. How was he supposed to feel about Kacchan? How was he supposed to move on? He was his friend, even if Kacchan didn't think so. Midoriya had always wanted to be by his side, watching him grow into the number two hero, because he had plans to be number one. But even if the placeshad been reversed he'd always thought they'd be up on the board together.

His room is dark, not even the looming eyes of All Might could be seen. This was the last thing Midoriya noticed before he was pressed face first into the wall with a sweet smelling cloth placed over his head.
