Town of Pokemon
Scyther stared at all the Pokemon gathered, a gleam in his eye. Everyone was standing in front of a house made for the type of Pokemon they were, for instance Pikachu's house was much smaller than Scyther's, whereas the latter lived in one the size a human might have.
Not that there were humans in their world, none of them had ever seen one, although there were rumors that a Charmander claimed it had come from another universe where it had been a creature known as a "human." That Charmander was now a Charizard most likely, as that event happened a few years prior.
Anyhow, whatever humans were, they weren't the issue here. There were people among the officials trying to solve a case of bloody murder who actually were involved with these killings. First of all there was a group of Pokemon known as the mafia, who wanted to take over the town, while there was also an independent killer who just wanted everyone to die. No one knew quite what type this killer was yet though, but there were three possibilities, an arsonist who would slowly douse everyone's houses until they chose to ignite, a Pokeferoz, a creature who was wild at the full moon, which powered it, or a serial killer who went around with a blade, sinking it into a Pokemon's vital organs.
"See you tomorrow!" a Caterpie announced to everyone gathered in front of their houses.
"I think that's a vet bait," said Bisharp, a Dark/Steel Pokemon that resembled a Medabot, and had shark hands. Perfect for slicing into Pokeflesh, he probably didn't even need a separate blade, could just use his own arms to handle that. Which meant sheriffs/investigators might check him early on. Provided he wasn't a victim himself, of course.
"No one visit the vet," Pikachu said.
"Dude, I am 100% not vet," Caterpie protested.
"You just want to trick people into visiting you so you can put an end to them," said Onix, who growled from in front of his candy cane house.
"How am I even supposed to shot?" Caterpie asked. "I don't even have arms."
"If you're veteran, that means you survived the wars, as a soldier, so don't ask us how your tricks work, Caterpie," said Hypno.
"No one would listen to Caterpie's arguments, everyone slipped back into their homes where they would have dinner, one or two perhaps for the last time, barring any paranoid veteran eliminating anyone who stepped or flew into their yard.
In the morning, Chansey was found dead in her home, with a mafia design sort of like the swastika on a parchment beside her body. Scyther and Aipom who entered her house discovered ointments, funguses, herbs, bandages, and some tools such as a stethoscope which revealed her to be a doctor.
Sunflora was discovered in her home with cuts in her face and stem, it was a grotesque sight and Aipom nearly vomited. This meant though that their independent murderer was not an arsonist or a Pokeferoz, but a serial killer, which meant town could be slaughtered much quicker than they would otherwise have liked.
Of course, a serial killer could just as easily hit mafia members, but it meant potential two murders each night, which wasn't good at all.
Sunflora turned out to be investigator based on the objects discovered in her house, a notepad, magnifying glass, and other super sleuth gadgets.
"Well, this is extremely bad," Aipom said, when everyone was gathered in the courtyard, bouncing on its tail-hand.
"You look pretty happy at the prospect of two of our town members having passed on," Caterpie remarked.
"Easy there, my teeth are always showing," Aipom said. "You can't deduce my emotions from that."
"Any leads?" Magmar asked.
"None from me," Onix said.
"I'd like an occupation claim from Hippowdon," Bisharp said, indicating a thick hippo.
"I'll claim when I want to claim," the black female hippo said.
Pokemon carried on accusing one another throughout the day. It happened the next day two, with fewer Pokemon present, Lapras and Lopunny added to the dead, one an escort, the other a sheriff who had Bisharp listed as not suspicious in her will.
"Okay, I'm stepping up," said Scyther, revealing a fancy, shiny gold mayor badge.
They put a couple of Pokemon on trial before deciding to lynch Misdreavus. She pleaded her case, begging them to believe her medium claim. They submitted the voting not only to officials involved in the case but also some of the town Pokemon who were willing to put in their own two cents in these cases.
With votes nine to four, with the mayor's three, Misdreavus was voted guilty, after which Bisharp started slashing at her with his metal shark claws, renting her ghostly aura with dark forces, since she didn't exactly have flesh, as Ghost types are a sort of spirit. But you can still kill them, it's like a second death or something. Better to seek out literature on Pokemon philosophy for those curious on how that might work, though no volume, scholarly or otherwise, can provide a definitive analysis of the subject.
Either way, Dark types are skilled at killing Ghost types, it is a fact of nature.
Once Misdreavus's purple remains were on the ground like a popped balloon, a few of the Pokemon entered her house, and discovered a giant feather pen, perfect for forging, and scarlet mafia alliance banners.
"Wow, you got one mayor!" Aipom said, bouncing up and thumping Scyther on a wing.
"Yeah, but there's still five evils among us left," Hypno said. "Three mafia, a serial killer, and a neutral evil of some sort."
"We'll get them," Aipom said. "With a mayor like this, how can we not?"
"Plus, jailor is still alive," Hippowdon said.
"Indeed," said Caterpie.
Everyone went back into their houses, not completely feeling safe, but certainly better having an outed mayor, who would surely lead them to victory.
The next morning, three Pokemon were dead, Hippowdon, Caterpie, and Scyther.
Hippowdon, it turned out, ahd been executed by the jailor. They were a witch who hadn't controlled anyone, perhaps waiting for an outed vigilante. Plus, it would be easier to get away with claims and evade being lynched if the Pokemon of the town were terrified of a possible jester as opposed to a witch. If Sunflora the investigator had lived longer, they might've had a good list of people's cupposed occupations at this point, but that was why all these people had been brought forward to eliminate the evils. This was the best force that could get it done, or so everyone believed.
Caterpie was shot in several places, mostly the head, a bullet was lodged deep in its eye. Duskull entered Caterpie's house and discovered keys to the jail's cells, and in his will all the claims of people who had been incarcerated.
"That's a major shame, losing mayor," Bisharp said.
"Yeah, about that," Aipom said. "I am lookout, and I was watching the mayor's house to see who would visit, and so I have found the serial killer!"
"Well, out with it," Hypno said. "Who is it?"
"None other than our very own Electric rat, Pikachu!"
Aipom pointed its paw at the yellow mouse with red cheeks and a lightning-shaped tail.
"What, me? Are you kidding? You're not real lookout, I'm guessing you're the serial killer."
"Nah, I have accurate lookout results, and as you can see, I have big eyes perfect for watching you BUTCHER our mayor with a knife! Let's get rid of you!"
"Yeah, let's put him up for trial," Hypno said.
"Now, wait a moment," Pikachu said, as he found himself surrounded by Primeape, Duskull, Hypno, Aipom, and Sealeo. "Think about it, there's three mafia left, we'll lose our numbers if you get rid of me."
"You killed mayor!" Aipom shouted. "Therefore, you shall pay."
"Also, you are not a member of the town," Sealeo said. "So there is no 'we' in this."
As they all moved forward to grab and restrain Pikachu, the yellow mouse Pokemon let out wayward jolts of electricity, screeching, Pikaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" Aipom, Sealeo, and Duskul all shrieked fro the shocks, but Hypno seemed to be in a mental state to not be bothered by it
Hypno sent psychic waves to raise Pikachu into the air and traipsed along, wagging his pendulum. The others had to wait to recover, but once they had, they were eager to submit guilty votes to remove that pesky serial killer from their midsts.
Pikachu was tied up with rubber ropes on a metal plate in the courtyard.
"We've got the votes in. Five guilties to one innocent," Aipom announced.
"Who would vote innocent on a confirmed serial killer?" Sealeo asked.
"I innocent everyone," Duskull said, floating around the spot where Pikachu was tied up.
Rampardos stepped forward. "I shall eliminate the scumbag!" he said, gleefully. With his gray body and blue crest, and being a rock type, he was quite imposing.
"Reverse the votes! You need me to kill mafia!" Pikachu said.
"We will be fine enough without you, it's your fault for killing mayor," Aipom said.
Rampardos bashed his head against Pikachu and bit his tiny arms and ears. Lots of Pika blood spilled around the area like a fountain. The electric mouse kept shooting out volts of electricity until it couldn't fight anymore, its body too weak. And soon it was completely dead.
"Whew, only mafia to worry about left!" Rampardos said.
"Cheers," said Aipom, who invited Sealeo and Hypno to his house for a party.
That night, Aipom was slaughtered by the mafioso, who shot him in the back of the head and in his mouth as he snoozed.
The mafia now had decent numbers, in most towns there were only fifteen people on the case for this, but there were sixteen here, however, if town brought anyone to trial, it would be mafia suggesting it because town didn't have the votes.
Onix was killed the next night, he turned out to be veteran.
"Darn, I was hoping town killing would be vigilante," Sealeo said. "That's super unfortunate. A non-alerting veteran is sort of useless."
"Yeah, a vigilante would've gotten the bad guys for sure," said Hypno.
The mafia put their votes in for county affairs, and it was chosen that they would lynch Duskull.
"I'll do the honors," Bisharp said.
"Wait, before you end me, I must know," Duskull said. "Which of you is the mafia?"
"I'm the one whose not," Rampardos said. "But I'll gladly join up."
"Certainly, my good sir," Hypno said, slapping Rampardos shoulder with the hand that wasn't swinging the perpetual pendulum.
"But you said we don't do that, boss," Sealeo protested.
"Rampardos here has proven himself. He eliminated our biggest threat, the serial killer. Besides, as godfather, I get to decide who we induct or who we don't, and I think Rampardos supports our cause at heart, regardless of how those townies made him feel."
"Induct me, then," Duskull insisted.
Hypno pretended to consider this for a few seconds. "Nah, you haven't done anything useful for the mafia. Go on and finish him, mafioso."
"Gladly," Bisharp said, sharpening his shark arms against one another.
"So you're the one who killed Chansey and Caterpie and Aipom?" Duskull asked.
Bisharp nodded. "And Onix and Lapras. Also, publicly I executed Misdreavus."
"Your own forger? How could you live with yourself?"
"She knew that joining the mafia meant possible death," Bisharp said, shrugging. "It's the price you pay sometimes."
Bisharp slaughtered Duskull with dark attacks the way he had done to his own forger days before. Then the mafia proceeded to have a party with Berry Juice refined by a Shuckle who lived in the town and had supported them despite not actually being involved with the case.
So Pikachu the serial killer had been right, eliminating the independent murderer had just given way for town to be conquered in a
MAFIA TAKEOVER
