Why hadn't his sister evacuated?!
He turned the corner and quickened his pace. Sweat formed on his forehead, and nervousness slowly washed over him.
Kotori is surely very scared, alone in the street, and crying.
Why had he promised to meet her at the restaurant? He should have been more strict. Now, there was a possibility that she might die.
He felt cold just thinking about that. He ran as fast as he could.
But it was not enough.
A flash lit up the area. And an explosion shook the earth.
"So how long have you not slept?"
Reine thought about it, and held up 3 fingers.
"Rightly so, three days without sleep. Of course you would be very sleepy."
"... About thirty years, more or less?"
He just stared blankly at Reine. He expected any kind of response, but thirty years? Reine didn't even look like she was over twenty. Also, no one could live without sleep for so long.
"Ah. Sorry, but it's time for my medicine." Reine said, taking a box of pills out of one of her pockets, and then pouring all the pills into her mouth.
"Woman, do you feel like dying or what?!"
This woman was crazy! There was no doubt about it. Who in their right mind takes that many pills?
"What's wrong? You are very noisy."
"Holy God."
He calmed down relatively quickly, there was no need to make a fuss. If she dies, good for him, one less variable to worry about when trying to escape. He needed all the possible advantages if he wanted to leave that place and resume the search for his younger sister, Kotori.
"Kotori ..."
Thinking about his sister, he opened the GPS on his phone. He had just remembered something, which while it might seem insignificant, for Shido it was relevant.
Viewing the GPS history, he selected his previous location (High School) and compared it to Kotori's last location.
"This is more than it should be," Shido thought. "The distance between the restaurant and the high school is at least 1 kilometer. So, adding the altitude to the equation, that means that ..."
He was on an aircraft. The GPS took into account the altitude of the destination and what he saw left him silent for a moment.
Right now he was more than 15,000 meters above Tengu city.
Once Reine recovered from that blow, they left the infirmary.
The narrow hallway they were walking through was painted pale colors, he had noticed some imperfections, but he focused better on the door at the end of the path.
He followed Reine behind, although he was very tempted to go ahead. She swayed unsteadily, and her footsteps echoed loudly.
Having checked the GPS a few times to confirm Kotori's position, it turned out that he was getting closer and closer to her. Kotori's position had been immobile for who knows how long. The chance of her being held hostage was slim, but not none.
"It's here."
They stopped in front of the door. Reine said a few words, then the panel made a slight beep and the door opened.
"We have arrived." She announced sleepily, her head still shaking unsteadily.
"Good job."
A man approached them. With wavy blond hair, and looking not native to Japan, he looked like a character out of a juvenile novel.
"Hello. I am the Vice Commander, Kannazuki Kyouhei. Pleased to meet you."
Shido returned the greeting politely.
"Commander, Officer Murasame has returned."
And then...
Ah.
The seat in the center of the room turned slowly, until it showed the person sitting in it.
"Welcome to 'Ratatoskr.'"
So she is the commander.
