Chapter 2
Running along the rooftops, a teenage girl, leapt between buildings. She wore a black jacket, with the hood up that had ears to snugly fit her fox ears, a black mask resembling a fox, and a set of black jeans that had multiple belts to store countless kunai knives. This girl was armed to the teeth, and extremely dangerous.
"The target is still in her office." A boy's voice spoke directly into her ear, thanks to an ear piece. "You got this, Kuni?"
"Yeah." Kuni replied, not once stopping as she ran across buildings, under the cover of night. "Keep me updated on her status, Zimo."
"Copy."
Seeing the large, tower-like building quickly approaching, Kuni slid to a halt once she was on the building directly across. It wasn't that tall, six stories.
"I'm here." Kuni said into her ear piece. "Still got a line on her, Zi?"
"She's sitting at her desk, on the phone." Zimo replied. "Slip in and out."
"Ain't that what I usually do?"
Approaching the edge of the building, Kuni glanced down to see a guard, wearing a cheap tux, patrolling below her. A handgun was holstered on his side, as well as an assault rifle held in his hands. Kuni could tell he was wearing some form of bullet proof vest under his tux.
"She's got guards. They're armed, pretty heavily, too." Kuni told Zimo.
"It's not like you haven't dealt with deadlier guys before." Zimo replied.
"The target's on edge." Kuni said, observing the guard.
"She has reason to be." Kuni could hear the buttons on a keyboard being pressed as Zimo talked. "She has countless enemies. Paranoia is to be expected."
Kuni leaned over the edge of the building, reaching for one of her kunai. Wielding it, a long chain was attached to the end.
"Right."
As Kuni said that, she threw the kunai at the guard. The blade sunk into his shoulder, causing him to grunt in pain before being violently yanked off his feet. Pulled up by Kuni, she quickly wrapped her arm around his neck, pulling the guard onto the roof. Hitting her arm, Kuni ignored the man's poor attempts to get free as he slowly fell unconscious.
After roughly half a minute, the man went limp in Kuni's arms.
Laying the man on the rooftop, Zimo began to speak to Kuni again.
"I've hacked the security cams." Zimo informed Kuni. "You got a guard coming around the north side of the building."
Performing a front flip as she jumped off the building, Kuni immediately rolled into the shadows, her clothing providing the perfect cover in darkness.
Moving alongside the wall, Kuni held perfectly still as the guard came towards her. Waiting until he was close enough, Kuni leapt out and wrapped one arm around his neck while covering his mouth with her hand. Pulling him into the shadows, Kuni repeated what she did with the previous guard.
Once he was unconscious, Kuni laid him on the ground.
"Take his keycard." Zimo said through the earpiece.
Kuni did as instructed and took the keycard from the guard's pocket. Looking it over, Kuni saw it was a level two keycard.
"Level two?"
"That'll take you up to the second floor." Zimo told Kuni. "From there, you'll need a level three and four keycard to proce-"
Kuni stood up and reached back, pulling a grappling gun off her lower back.
"I'll use the express elevator."
"Express-?"
Kuni shot the hook at the roof of the building. Squeezing the trigger again, she was pulled off her feet, rushing up to the top. Once she reached the top, her momentum sent her flying just a bit higher. Performing a flip, Kuni landed on the roof, completely silent.
"Just like a cat." Kuni said softly.
Zimo groaned on the other side.
"Just hurry up, Kuni."
"Patience, Zi." Kuni told him. "I'll have the target in a bit." She began walking over to the vent that sat atop the roof. Taking the grate off, Kuni pressed her index and middle fingers to her earpiece. "Zi, I'm about to enter the roof vent. Give me directions to the target's office."
"Will do, Kuni."
Heading inside, Kuni moved as silently as possible.
"Take a right, left, a right, then drop down." Zimo directed her. "You'll fall directly into her corner office."
"And she's still there?" Kuni asked.
"She's still on the phone." Zimo replied.
Following Zimo's directions, Kuni soom came across the vent exit, leading into the office. Dropping down, Kuni landed behind the target, as she was still talking on the phone.
Instantly, Kuni took one of her kunai's off her belt, throwing it at the phone with masterful precision. Seeing it get destroyed upon impact with the window, Kuni approached the target.
"I knew they would send assassins." She said, blowing a puff of smoke out as she turned to face Kuni, cigar in hand. "You are here to kill me, correct."
Kuni shrugged her shoulders.
"Nothing personal, just-"
"Business." The target said. "I understand. After all, I'm a businesswoman, too. I-"
"Liza Winters. I know what you do." Kuni interrupted. "And I'm here to put an end to it."
Liza blew another puff of smoke before putting the cigar out in the ashtray on her desk. Rising to her feet, Liza glared at Kuni.
"Do you have any idea what'll happen if my organization falls?"
"Enlighten me." Kuni said, twirling a kunai around her right hand index finger.
"Those filthy Faunus have nothing!" Liza shouted. "Because of me and my people, I keep those rats from starving! They get paid because of my organization!"
Kuni gripped her kunai, holding it in a reverse grip.
"Interesting point of view." Kuni said. "Here's mine."
In a swift motion, Kuni threw her kunai at Liza. Sinking into her chest, Kuni suddenly seemed to teleport in front of Liza, her hand gripped onto her kunai.
"With you gone, those Faunus will live much better."
Ripping the kunai free, Kuni quickly slit Liza's throat. Bleeding out in seconds, her body fell to the floor, motionless.
Just as her body ceased movement, Kuni sheathed her weapon as her earpiece roared to life.
"Four, no, seven hostiles are right outside!" Zimo told Kuni. "Get outta there!"
Looking to the window, Kuni ran over and kicked the glass, cracking it. Kicking it again, the glass shattered. Instantly, Kuni felt the wind on her face as the outside air blew inside. Hearing the door behind her get kicked open, Kuni glanced back at the heavily armed guards.
"Open fire!" The leader shouted.
Kuni did a quick two finger wave before jumping out of the window just as the bullets began to fly. Pulling the grappling gun off her lower back, she aimed it at the roof and shot. The line sunk into the roof, stopping Kuni's quick descent before she hit the ground.
Reeling it back in, Kuni looked up as the guards aimed down at her, shooting.
Using the shadows, Kuni ran away from the building. Hearing the bullet impact behind her, getting closer by the second, Kuni threw one of her kunai somewhere in front of her.
After a second, she vanished from view, appearing at her kunai that was still spinning through the air. Flipping with the momentum, Kuni threw the kunai at the ground, teleporting at it.
"You cut it too close." Zimo said.
"I killed the target and got out." Kuni replied. "Mission accomplished."
"I suppose." Zimo said softly. "See ya back at camp."
"See ya soon, Zi."
With that, Kuni turned off her earpiece.
A few hours later
Arriving at camp, Kuni headed directly for her personal tent. Upon entering, however, a woman sat in the center of the tent, facing Kuni.
"Ai!"
Before Kuni could say anything else, Ai spoke while gesturing to the opposite side of the table in front of her.
"We need to talk."
Sitting down across from Ai, Kuni could tell something was off.
"Good job with Liza Winters." Ai began. "I'd heard that job went well."
Kuni remained silent.
"Now, I'll cut to the chase, we have another target." Ai slid a picture across the table, showing a man, roughly middle-age, with grey hair and a pair of glasses. "This one is a bit more... problematic."
"What d'ya mean?"
"This is professor Ozpin of Beacon Academy." Ai stated. "Headmaster. Professional Huntsman."
"Why's he a target?" Kuni asked. "I thought the Huntsman Academy headmasters were all trustworthy."
"Our employer shed some light on some of Professor Ozpin's secrets: he trains kids just to send them off on impossible missions, where they die. He doesn't seem to care about sacrificing lives for his own gain. Whatever that may be."
Kuni stared at the picture.
"I'm sending you and a few others undercover for this one." Ai explained. "The Vytal Festival is fast approaching, so you, and three others, will be participating as part of a 'team'."
"Got it."
"Our employers have provided the information needed to slip in undetected." Ai continued. "I'm sending you in with Reed, Mick, and Natasha. You'll be a team visiting from Haven Academy in Mistral."
Kuni nodded her head. "So, what's the objective?"
"The employer wants you to gather intel first." Ai told her. "Afterwards, you are to assassinate Professor Ozpin." Reaching into her pocket, Ai placed a scroll onto the table. "Plug this directly into his terminal and it'll extract every bit of Ozpin's secrets. Once that's done, eliminate Ozpin."
Kuni took the scroll and picture.
"Got it."
"Be careful with this one." Ai warned. "This will most likely be your most difficult target yet."
