Hollis felt incredibly disoriented. One minute she was being dragged and pushed into the veil, and the next she was floating in a sea of blinding white. The voices only got louder and louder until suddenly they stopped and Hollis landed on a couch. Lifting her head she looked around what seemed to be a living room filled with a hodgepodge different artifacts and pieces of furniture from different eras. She rubbed her eyes and suddenly sitting across from her was a man in a very expensive suit smoking a cigar. His hair had a smattering of grey but his face had nary a wrinkle. What really caught her off guard were his completely black eyes boring into her own emerald ones.

Sitting up she asked him, "Who are you, and where the bloody hell am I?"

"Calm yourself child. You may be the Mistress, but us Chosens still deserve respect," the man replied chastisingly. "I'll let it slide this time though, you've only just begun and I've yet to explain the rules."

"Chosens? What the bloody hell is that? And begun what, what rules?" The young woman was trying to make sense of everything that was happening, but the man's cryptic words weren't helping any. "And wait- Mistress? Do you mean Mistress of Death? Hold on, does that make you Death?"

The man leaned forward and put out his cigar. "Yes, I mean Mistress of Death. And the first and last questions are intertwined. Yes, I am this dimension Chosen, what you know as Death or the Grim Reaper. However, each Dimension has its own Chosen or "Death", sometimes multiple. I just happen to be the one presiding over this one. Think of Chosens as the Master or Mistress' generals and advisors making sure that the system runs smoothly. You couldn't possibly rule over every single being all at once so the original Master created us to both relieve his workload and in the future advise you, his successor."

"Okay so just to be clear; You're saying that not only is there more than one dimension, but there are more than one incarnation of Death, and you just so happen to be one of them?" Hollis asked incredulously. When the man, now identified as Death, simply nodded she let out a slightly hysterical laugh. "I'm sorry but you've got to be joking! There's no way- I mean wouldn't have people discovered any of this? The whole multidimensional thing at least?"

"Some mortals have theorised about it in what you would know as the muggle world. They simply had no concrete evidence to prove it. Besides, your people were able to hide entire societies and wars in plain sight. Is this really that far fetched?"

"Well when you put it like that, I suppose it's not." Taking a minute of silence to reorganize her mind, Hollis caught something that she had missed when Death first said it. "I'm sorry can we go back to the part where you made it sound like there's only ever been one other Master before me? Shouldn't there always be one to make sure you "Chosens" are doing everything correctly?"

The man chuckled. "There has only ever been one other Master. He faded away thousands of years ago but he made sure that one day, his rightful heir would come and take their place. It is a position that will soon need to be filled in the coming years. While a Master or Mistress is not necessary for the system to run, there will come a day soon where they will be necessary to take down a foe that may do great damage across multiple dimensions. While us Chosens have plenty of wiggle room and loopholes to work with within our own domains, there is an Ancient rule that we are not to cross into or act in another Chosen's domain. This keeps order. The Mistress, however, may act wherever they please. That's where you come in." Death stood up and walked around the couch Hollis was sitting on to a table that had some crystal bottles on it. "Bourbon," he said with a nod to the brown liquid he was pouring, "Would you like some?"

"I'm not a huge fan, but I have a feeling I'll need it," Hollis said resignedly.

"Good choice. To sum it up, in one of the more hectic Dimensions there is an upstart who wishes to wipe out half of all living organisms. Normally this wouldn't be that much of a worry; there's always some "revolutionary" who has a similar goal."

Death passes Hollis her glass and she takes a sip, thinking it over. "Okay sounds bad, but what exactly am I supposed to do about it?"

He smiled, "I'm glad you asked. As I said, normally this wouldn't be all that big of a worry, however that specific Dimension houses what are known as the Infinity Stones. There are six Infinity Stones. The Space Stone, the Reality Stone, the Power Stone, the Mind Stone, the Time Stone and the Soul Stone. On their own they are capable of many feats. When put together, nothing is impossible and wiping out half of all existing life can be done with a snap of the fingers. As Mistress of Death you are one of very few beings that can deal with Stones with no ramifications to you body or mind beyond a possible boost of power." Hollis had been nodding along to everything Death was saying, but failed to see how it applied to her now.

"You see the Veil that your people pushed you through is supposed to send you to my offices where we collect souls and send them to their proper afterlife. In short, you were meant to die. Luckily for you, however, as Mistress of Death you cannot die and instead I was directly notified. Now seeing as you cannot simply stay in this pocket Dimension for all of time but we also cannot send you back as that will raise far too many questions, I've contacted the Chosen of the Dimension where the upstart is from. We've both agreed that with your permission, we can move you to that Dimension now, so that when everything comes to an end you may have allies at your side. You can live your life, be anonymous, live in peace knowing that no one other than the Chosen and those you chose to tell will know your tale as the Girl-Who-Lived and Mistress of Death."

"So you're saying," started Hollis, "that you and this Other Chosen-"

"Her name is Hel or Hela," Death interrupted.

"Hela, right," she nodded. "So you and Hela want to launch me into this other reality, sorry Dimension, with little to no preparation to go fight this random foe whose name you've yet to give me when I literally just got finished with the stupid bloody war not even a week ago? Is that right?" she asked.

"Well that's mostly right. We planned on giving you the basic rundown of Thanos- the so-called "Mad Titan" who wishes to use the stones. The other dimension is overall the same to yours. There just isn't a wizarding world and instead of Grindelwald during World War 2 it was an organization named Hydra. There are a few powers we've yet to go over, but if you agree to our plan, Hela has given me some information to transmit to you when I unlock your powers and send you to her Dimension. There's also some information I would impart with you. She has also set up a house for you and as for magical materials you can always contact one of us and we'll bring it to you. Lady Hela will also meet with you after you have settled in to go over any concerns or questions you may have by then. You'll be plenty prepared."

Hollis snorted. "Well that's more prepared than what Dumbles had for the war." Hollis stood and her hand through her hair. "And you're sure that I'll be able to beat this Thanos?"

"Positive. Especially since he wishes to earn Lady Death's favor. Hopefully you revealing your position to him when the time is right will make your victory that much faster."

Sighing Hollis looked up in a "why is it always me" kind of way, already knowing she had made her decision.

"Alright," she said, looking Death in his eyes, an exhausted but determined look on her face. "I'll do it."

"Wonderful!" Death walked over to Hollis and softly placed his hand on her head. "This may hurt a bit. You'll be there when you wake up."

All Hollis heard after that was a whispered good luck and then the blinding white took over yet again.
