Chapter One: Four Fails and One Success. Well, that is bad.

JEB POV

Perfect. I finally have an offspring to try my new serum on. I want to see if I can inject bird DNA into a human. Ari is my first test subject. If he fails, well there will be plenty more kids to come.

Fail. . .

Eight years later

Subject Two. . . Emily. . . Fail. . . again

Two years later

Subject Three and Four. . . Twins. . . Aiden. . . Maximum. . . One Fail: Aiden. . . Finally, One Success: Maximum. She will not disappoint me.

Two more years later

Subject Five. . . Ella. . . Fail. . . How did I manage to only succeed once? Hmmmm… maybe there is something special about little Max.

At the house. . .

My wife, Val, was holding one year old Ella and three year old Aiden in her arms with five year old Emily standing off to the side. Emily was crying silently. Ari had left four years ago. Stupid wimp of a kid. I can't believe he was my first son. Since Maximum is my only valuable child, I must keep her safe. I also can't let Val find out that she had wings or what I did to our other children. They may have failed and didn't get wings but they do have scars on their backs where wings were supposed to be. I'll let Val care for my other kids, I don't care for them. Only Max, who is my success.

"Maximum!" I call. Seconds later, I see little Max coming down the stairs with her belongings. She hugs her mom and sister then grabs my hand. I smile at her. She glares at me.

I lead Max out to the car and turn towards the house to see the rest of the family standing out on the porch. Max climbs in her carseat and continues to glare at me. Since she is a bird kid, she has high intelligence.

"You are cruel, you know that? Will I ever see them again?"

I smile at her. She glares again. "Oh sweetie, you'll see them on the weekends. We can't have them growing suspicious now can we. If you ever tell your mother or siblings what happens at the lab you'll end up unconscious for a week."

"I can't believe you are my father," I hear her mumble. I ignore that comment and turn on the car, heading towards Max's new home during the weekdays.
